yes, i did. now, the session management became a real nightmare. it was always
broken in ubuntu 13.10, but it used to work without problems in ubuntu 13.04.
something like a month or two ago, a xfce update broke that also in 13.04. btw,
i have backports switched on...
i regularly
this is a real showstopper. in our institution we have delayed ubuntu
upgrades since mathematica is used heavily and this bug appears on most
of the hardware/driver combinations...

i tried all three methods of installing acroread on ubuntu 13.10 amd64:
from AdbeRdr9.5.5-1_i486linux_enu.bin, from
AdbeRdr9.5.5-1_i386linux_enu.deb, and enabling the raring partner repo.
in all cases i got the library dependencies fixed, so this is not a
problem. the message /usr/bin/acroread

crash occurs in the gltest. mathematica uses it to test the capabilities
of the GL subsystem. the original command line is

after some more modifications to the mathematica frontend startup script
a workaround emerged: comment out the block which runs the gltest
executable:

first thing i always did in gnome2 was disable caps lock in order to
reduce typing mistakes (for frequent command-line usage the caps lock is
just too close to the tab key). since i switched to xfce after gnome3,
this is one of the main things i miss. i run gnome services in
on atom N550 the pavucontrol eats 23% of cpu and X 14% even when input
and output are both completely muted. i guess this is just sloppy
programming, updating the meters even when nothing is going on. this is
effectively a busy-loop burning and would be really nice to fix, please?

inkscape crashes while extracting a bitmap image.
steps to reproduce:
run: wget
http://www.pco.de/fileadmin/user_upload/db/products/datasheet/sensicam_qe_20080624.pdf
in the dialog select first page
run: inkscape sensicam_qe_20080624.pdf
click on the camera bitmap and
workaround: open the pfd file with inkscape and in the page-select
dialog deselect embed images. in this way you will get all bitmap
images on the selected page extracted to the current directory
correctly...

in xfce (did not check other desktops) clicking internet menu item for
firefox produces defunct firefox. starting it from terminal works
normally, apart from the messages:
** (firefox:4814): WARNING **: Failed to open webapp application path
dir
modifying the firefox launcher button so that it runs in terminal also
makes it work.

another test: moving .mozilla away gets a fresh firefox normally...
maybe something to do with the extensions...

modifying the xfce launcher so that it runs strace -ttt firefox and
then reading the produced output in .xsession-errors gives this
interesting ending just after some noise from the plugins/extensions:

the strace output gave me hints it has to be extensions/plugins. i
removed foxyproxy since this was the last extension being touched in the
strace log and is an extension i probably carried over through several
ubuntu upgrades but unfortunately this does not solve the situation
where firefox
