Thanks for answer #23, it solved my problem.
The problem occured only by VLC itself and the KDE Phonon VLC module. So
I suspect that VLC is doing something a little bit different than most
other audio backends. Maybe the chunk size VLC uses or the timing of
VLC.
Also I followed
Confirmed although my situation is a little different:
I had some documents created b LibreOffice on Windows. On Windows
LibreOffice bundles Linux Libertine Graphite and calls the fonts Linux
Libertine G and Linux Biolinum G.
Opening these documents in LibreOffice on Ubuntu breaks the whole
LibreOffice should have the Linux Libertine Graphite package as
dependency to keep compatibility to LibreOffice on Windows, which
bundles the Graphite fonts.
Therefore I set this also as a bug for LibreOffice.

I haven't got the system this happened anymore.
But at least for Oneiric I cant't confirm this problem: After the
Recovery Menu is shown the menu is overwritten by some console messages.
But by arrow up/down at least the choices can be made visible again and
resuming booting works.

I have an EPSON Stylus Office BX625FWD and the printer din't work
anymore after usage of the kde printer configuration. Okular didn't show
a message but Acrobat Reader showed the already known Bad job-sheets

ink than just a simple your printer works-page. But on the other hand

if colors are printed correctly (no tint).

I'm not sure if I should file a new bug or append it to this one...
Now cuneiform is built with libmagick++-support (Bug #654767 fixed for
maverick, fix for Lucid is in proposed repository). So cuneiform can
perform nearly any image format. But OCR with cuneiform still doesn't
work: The OCR tab
Replacing the -f hocr option for cuneiform by -f smarttext solved
this. (Instead of smarttext text should work, too. But smarttext is
probably better in most cases.)

As I found ou on http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/formats/#bmp the conversion
can be done using
$ convert blop.jpg ppm:- | convert - BMP3:image.bpm
Now cuneiform takes the BMP file. But I guess that's not an usual
workaround a normal user who just wants to OCR a few documents will
try... So
