My laptop is not a Toshiba but I have the some problem when having Ubuntu 6.10
Edgy:
Intel Centrino 1.7 Ghz 1 Gb RAM is hanging when shutting down via the normal
graphical method. It's hanging at the very end of the process. I can't see what
is hanging because of the spash screen.
When shutdown
I din't have an AMD64 processor. It's an Intel Centrino Mobility processor.
When I upgraded to Edgy, this happened. It happens already with the Live CD
and installing fresh won't solve the problem too.
Dapper works well with the shutdown or restart.

I experience the same effects on Ubuntu Hardy Beta, using Mozilla
Firefox 3 Beta 4.
I am running an ATI card (fglrx) with AIGLX. The problem appears while
using both metacity and compiz.
Hitting the stop button on the browser usually makes the pointer behave

I ran the update manager and after it was done updating, Evolution had
been removed from my computer. I did not expect my email program to be
removed during a general system update.
I went to add/remove programs and Evolution was no longer checked, so I

I managed to fix this one by doing the following (as root or with
sudo):
# dpkg -l | grep cups
remove all of the above listed packages with:
# dpkg --purge package names
then reinstalling cups:

upgrade, and it offered to do a partial upgrade which failed with 'could
not calculate the upgrade' message, citing to report a bug against the
'update-manager' package and to include the files in /var/log/dist-

configure PAM. I picked cancel since I was not sure of what it did. I

hi, after a variable time i'm using ubuntu nautilus (at least i think it's
nautilus) becomes unstable and i can no more open my files, or launch
applications from a desktop shortcut (nothing happens);
when i try to open a file with right click - open a popup appears saying

Just installed all upgrades and it seems cups is acting up. Having alot
of trouble network printing. In the printing applet, i keep having to
go to the policies tab and check the enabled box to get printing to
work.
I will keep playing with it and report back any more
Here is what I am seeing. After a reboot of the print server, the
printer is online and reachable. I go to my desktop machine and print a
document. The printer starts printing then stops midstream. Sending
additional documents go into the que but the printer is stopped.

By the way, I am using a HP D2400 series printer. It is fully supported
and I never had a problem before.
One interesting thing to note, This problem also happened on Fedora 8.

I have a similar problem.
Using the 8.04 x86 alternate CD (as opposed to amd64 in the original
post), I was trying to install with encrypted partition in one LVM
volume. The installer crashes while selecting and installing software
at 85%. I've had it happen twice now.

I experience the same thing on the Acer TravelMate 4500. With Fn F7 I
can switch off the touchpad and it does not happen again. I use an
external mouse instead of the touchpad.
