There were four S/PDIF choices and the the one that worked 1 of 0,1,2,3
had inexplicably been changed to 0.

The network manager (which does not work on this computer) was installed
even though wicd was installed and network manager was not.
I deleted network manager using synaptic, and now the resolv.conf is not
overwritten at boot. This means the

I have done a clean installation of Ubuntu 11.10 i386 from a CD.
The original installation was an on-line distribution upgrade, and there
were too many problems.

after fresh install of 11.04 same behavior.
can force boot using BIOS boot disc select, but when not using boot disc
select and defaulting to CD-ROM first, then hard disc, BOOT hangs. When
defaulting to hard disk first (no CD-ROM) with grub2 disk selected as
default, will boot into grub.

After reinstall, Emerald is listed as window decorator but does not
function.
When GTK is selected, windows are decorated but compiz is not fully
functional (e.g. rotatoe cude fails) and when emerald is selected, cube
works but there are no window decorations.

I use the Chameleon-large at 32 pixels.
Additional Information:
I use compiz, but only on screen 1 of 2 (:0.0) because with 9.04 compiz will
not composite scree 2 (:0.1) Compiz regularly stops compositing, and I
restart it with the command:
compiz --display :0.0
