[Bug 1167014] Re: MIssing cmake files

2016-12-10 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
I agree this bug should be closed.
I encountered this issue when building
https://github.com/andrewssobral/bgslibrary on Xenial

However, this was due to the absence of the devel package (I only had
the standard OpenCV package installed).

Installing libopencv-dev fixed this issue as it brings the necessary cmake
files, and I could build BGS.
See http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/amd64/libopencv-dev/filelist for where
they are located.

[Bug 346947] Re: hal-info is wrong for music player iAUDIO U2

2010-08-24 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
Hello all,

Hal-info is now deprecated for music players (for more information, see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Halsectomy). The new component in charge of this
area is now media-player-info, and the metadata describing each media
player has changed (fdi to mpi).

Regarding the current issue, and looking at latest media-player-info, this
seems to be fixed : the u2 definition file in Lucid includes the MUSIC/
directory.
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/lucid/media-player-info/lucid/annotate/head%3A/media-players/cowon-iaudio_u2.mpi

Can you try your U2 in Lucid and see if it works properly for you ? From
what I see, the patch is not needed anymore.

Thanks.

[Bug 533566] Re: [Lucid] Metacity window controls are on the left side after update

2010-03-06 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
This is a design choice by the artwork team for Lucid. This blog explains how
to tweak the window controls back to the right:
http://blog.daviey.com/blogroll/anything-but-the-buttons.html

This is not a bug as this is a deliberate choice by the design team.

[Bug 409548] Re: [jaunty][ppc64] On SDTV on PS3 many windows are unmanageable

2010-02-11 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
@Teej

Replying to your first comment, for any window, you can push them over
the gnome panel to access the Next button by Alt+Dragging. This lets you
move windows around from any cursor position on the window, not only the
top.

As for the general bug, there is probably no chance that this will get
fixed unfortunately. This requires a lot of work, and the number of
devices with less than 1024*768 is marginal.

[Bug 275492] Re: monsterz.py crashed with error in blit()

2009-09-15 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
Hi Philippe,

The version in karmic comes from Debian, the patch was taken by them a
few months ago, and we synced to debian again for karmic.

The version in Intrepid always had the problem, and has seen no updates,
so it is still obviously there.

As to the version in Jaunty, I am somewhat surprised as I distinctly
remember that updating to the new package fixed the issue with my
system's version.

Are you 100% sure that the jaunty version is broken?

I remembered seeing a blog entry about it some time ago...

I did the two steps mentioned there and it really made a difference for me:

Hope this helps.

[Bug 292042] Re: Logitech Bluetooth keyboards (Mediaboard Di Novo) not working on Intrepid

Quipeace,

I didn't expect the sixaxis to work over bluetooth, there is no complete
support for it - yet -. This will probably land for karmic+1.

However, keyboards might work at this time. If you get a chance to test

Is this problem related to the new FORTIFY option that was made a default

Is there a way for me to try another build with FORTIFY backed out? I don't
think there is too much security risk for a PS3 bootloader...

Any ideas / suggestions welcome.

[Bug 194964] Re: Update ps3pf-utils to version 2.2.0

2009-05-27 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
Luke, thanks for your help...

I will have a look at the main inclusion report information necessary.

Unfortunately before I can move on to that, I have to manage to compile
ps3-kboot on my karmic PS3. I made a very simple change to the Build Depends
section in debian/control (ps3pf-utils to ps3-utils), but compile fails in the
middle.
I will attach the failed log here for reference.

I fear a FTBFS patch is needed to rebuild ps3-kboot on a karmic
toolchain. I will try to do what I can on this, but C compilation
failures are not my cup of tea :(

Thanks

2009-05-26 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
Here is what I think on this (Dan please correct if I'm wrong)...
- We now have an up-to-date ps3-utils package from Debian (automatically
sync'ed)
- We are currently keeping our outdated ps3pf-utils

The goal is to replace ps3pf-utils with ps3-utils. To achieve this, we need to:
- update ps3-utils to mark it as Replaceing ps3pf-utils (debian/control file)
- update ps3-kboot to make it depend on ps3-utils rather than ps3pf-utils

I will try to cook some debdiffs to do that, but I must warn that I am
almost completely new with regards to deb packaging :).

[Bug 252652] Re: fgetty

@Jeff

Does this still work for you in Jaunty for the PS3?

I replaced getty by fgetty for ttys 2,3,4,5 and 6, but they failed on
boot on my PS3. As this works fine for me on a Dell laptop, I'm thinking
there might have been a regression on this.

[Bug 261988] Re: [needs-packaging] GNOME-colors icon theme

2009-05-07 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
Hi Andrew,

I tried to install the gnome colors package from your PPA, but it failed with
the following line:
E: /var/cache/apt/archives/gnome-brave-icon-theme_3.2-0~ppa1_all.deb: trying to
overwrite `/usr/share/icons/gnome-brave/48x48/animations/process-working.png',
which is also in package xubuntu-artwork

It seems that xubuntu-artwork ships all the icons of gnome-brave, so
this should be sorted out if the package is to be accepted.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 351059 ***

Marked this bug as the duplicate as the other bug has more meat in the
comments.

To sum things up, the mouse is seen as a touchpad, and the X loads the
synaptics driver instead of the correct evdev one.

I will test some workarounds for it on Sunday, if you are in a hurry,
the possible solutions are:

A) Remove the package xserver-xorg-input-synaptics.

If that is not possible (because it requires to uninstall all f Xorg),
B) Comment part of the file
/usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/20thirdparty/11-x11-synaptics.fdi

Replace
match key=info.capabilities contains=input.touchpad
merge key=input.x11_driver type=stringsynaptics/merge
!-- Arbitrary options can be passed to the driver using
 the input.x11_options property since xorg-server-1.5. --
!-- EXAMPLE:
merge key=input.x11_options.LeftEdge type=string120/merge
--
/match

With

match key=info.capabilities contains=input.touchpad
!--
merge key=input.x11_driver type=stringsynaptics/merge
--
!-- Arbitrary options can be passed to the driver using
 the input.x11_options property since xorg-server-1.5. --
!-- EXAMPLE:
merge key=input.x11_options.LeftEdge type=string120/merge

Will comment back on the main bug.

I don't think Ext4 is supported by kboot. Maybe it works, but you

To support ext4 properly, we will probably have to switch to petitboot

Nice to get the amd64 version as well.

As it is working correctly for you on AMD64 with KEY codes identical to
those on the PS3, the output difference could be simply due to
endianness. Something else then...

As for the name difference, it is interesting but I don't know where the
names come from. I'll grep in the kernel sources

[Bug 252652] Re: fgetty

2009-04-11 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
So the normal getty is still used to enable 6 ttys (in jaunty beta).

The setting resides in the inittabs file in sysvutils. This file is then
processed by a perl script from upstart, and the getty configuration
ends up in /etc/event.d/tttyX

Now, I don't think it is possible to make sysvinit use elements (fgetty)
from universe.

Even if that was possible, the switch to fgetty would have to be global
(all arches at once) as configuration specific inittabs files are more
the exception than the norm.

[Bug 357980] Re: PS3: Handle swap on ps3vram automatically on boot

2009-04-08 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
The attached debdiff works for me, with a few shortcomings
- it doesn't mount this swap during one of the normal swap activations. Doing
otherwise would require to do the mkswap very early in the scripts
- it hardcodes priority 10, regardless of the pri value set in /etc/fstab. It
should be possible to parse the options, and extract the value of pri to pass
it in the swapon line, but I'm not sure it is really worth it
- on boot (on a PS3), the message /dev/ps3vram Device or resource is busy
will appear... I couldn't find a way to hide it (tried the trick done on swapon
in mountall.sh, with no improvement).

With my /etc/fstab configured with a /dev/ps3vram swap entry, I get an
additional 250 Mo of swap directly on boot.

[Bug 292042] Re: Logitech Bluetooth keyboards (Mediaboard Di Novo) not working on Intrepid

2009-03-30 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
@Ambrick
Can you also attach the output above, *after* reinstalling
xserver-xorg-input-synaptic please ?

The input-synaptics interaction may be due to what I'm seeing with my
USB keyboard
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hal/+bug/351059).

If the hal description of your mouse says
input.x11_driver = 'evdev'
in the first log, and
input.x11_driver = 'synaptics'
in the second log, please try to run the following command

hal-set-property --udi $UDI \
--key input.x11_driver --string evdev

with $UDI the udi identifier of your mouse.

Thanks

[Bug 351059] Re: Mouse wheel of Logitech LX710 doesn't work on powerpc

2009-03-30 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
The input.x11_driver value is set by a fdi file, based on reported
capabilities.

On the laptop, the capabilites for the mouse are :
info.capabilities = {'input', 'input.keys', 'input.mouse', 'button',
'access_control'} (string list)

Whereas on the PS3, the capabilities are :
info.capabilities = {'input', 'input.keypad', 'input.keys', 'input.mouse',
'input.touchpad', 'button', 'access_control'} (string list)

There is an extra input.keypad and another extra input.touchpad. The
second by responsible for the assignment to the synaptics driver.

Now what sets info.capabilities ??

[Bug 351059] Re: Mouse wheel of Logitech LX710 doesn't work on powerpc

2009-03-30 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
From the code in hal (lhald/linux/device.c), a device is set to input.touchpad
based on its abs bitmask and its key bitmask.
If abs has bits ABS_X (0x00) and ABS_Y (0x01) and abs has bit ABS_PRESSURE
(0x18)
OR
If abs has bits ABS_X (0x00) and ABS_Y (0x01) and key has bit BTN_TOUCH
(0x14a)

Based on the content of /proc/bus/input/devices on both machines, the
mouse on the laptop has:

B: EV=1f
B: KEY=837fff 42c332f bf08 0 0 ff0001 1f84 8a37cc00 667bfa dd71dfed 9e
0 0 0
B: REL=1c3
B: ABS=1 0
B: MSC=10

Whereas the mouse on the PS3 has :
B: EV=1f
B: KEY=837fff042c332f bf08 ff0001 1f848a37cc00 667bfadd71dfed
9e 0
B: REL=1c3
B: ABS=1
B: MSC=10

At many points in these lines, there is an additional 7 '0' instead of a
space character. This probably breaks the detection code...

If anyone well informed in hal and linux can have a look, I don't even
know where this bug belongs now...

[Bug 351059] [NEW] Mouse wheel of Logitech LX710 doesn't work on powerpc

2009-03-29 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal

I own a Logitech LX710 mouse - keyboard combo. Its mouse works fine on
my laptop (i386), but the mouse wheel doesn't work on my PS3 (powerpc).

I used the hotkeys troubleshooting page of the wiki to find the root cause of
the problem, and it seems to be a problem in hal.
Using the hal-find-by-capability command, I found that the input.x11_driver
value is different on the two machines:
- on i386, input.x11_driver is evdev
- on powerpc, input.x11_driver is synatpics

[Bug 346899] Re: windfarm modprobes fail on startup on a PS3

2009-03-22 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
Thanks Luke for the quick reply and the pointers...

Indeed in the thermal hook of initramfs, the following snippet adds
the thermal modules to the initrd and pushes a bunch of modules for any
powerpc arch:

case $DPKG_ARCH in
# copy the right modules
powerpc|ppc64)
force_load therm_pm72
force_load windfarm_core
force_load windfarm_cpufreq_clamp
force_load windfarm_lm75_sensor
force_load windfarm_max6690_sensor
force_load windfarm_pid
force_load windfarm_pm112
force_load windfarm_pm81
force_load windfarm_pm91
force_load windfarm_smu_controls
force_load windfarm_smu_sat
force_load windfarm_smu_sensors
force_load i2c-powermac
;;
i386|amd64|ia64|lpia)
force_load fan
force_load thermal
;;
esac

Now how to split this check between PS3 and Apple hardware... I will
look at other scripts / hooks.

Thanks again

[Bug 346899] Re: windfarm modprobes fail on startup on a PS3

2009-03-22 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
There is only one place in the other hooks / scripts where we have a
specific handling for the PS3, in the global hook-functions (dep
additions)

if [ -e /sys/bus/ps3_system_bus/ ]; then
for x in ps3disk ps3rom ps3-gelic ps3_sys_manager; do
manual_add_modules ${x}
done
fi

Would it make sense to push a patch to the thermal hook using this check
inside the powerpc case?

I'll try to do that tomorrow (unless someone shouts that this is wrong).

[Bug 275492] Re: monsterz.py crashed with error in blit()

2009-03-05 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
@Jon

The latest version 0.7.1-2ubuntu1 is not in the intrepid repositories
(see https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/monsterz), only in the
upcoming jaunty version

To make it work, the work around is to manually install the jaunty
version (it works fine, this is how I made it work at home).

To do so:
1) Go at this address:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/+source/monsterz/0.7.1-2ubuntu1
2) On the right hand side (Builds window), click on your architecture.
3) In the build page, on the right hand side (Resulting binaries window), click
on monsterz 0.7.1-2ubuntu1 to manually download the jaunty package
4) Install the package with gdebi (it should be asked on file download) and
accept the installation (ignore the warning).

Good luck

[Bug 277839] Re: PS3: kboot welcome message should tell users how to get back to the Sony XMB

2009-03-01 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
Found it, and it was in kboot installer.
/etc/kboot.msg is created in postint, using these lines:

cat $etc/kboot.msg EOF
Ubuntu PS3 KBoot Loader.

Hit enter to boot the default system. You can also use the shell by
typing 'sh'. Exiting the shell returns to the kboot prompt.

EOF

So we either directly replace the XMB explanation in this section, or we
handle this differently (maybe so that it becomes easier to find /
update and to internationalize).

I will try to advance some more on this, probably using the second
option.

As the package in Ubuntu is directly imported from Debian, I contacted the

point him to this bug and this patch.
It is still a non issue in Debian (the unstable pygame version is inferior to

[Bug 275492] Re: monsterz.py crashed with error in blit()

2008-12-25 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
I spent some time on it tonight (first time at reading python :().

It seems that at two points in the codebase, a pygame surface cannot be
blit because the surface is still locked (there is an unlock() before
the blit, but it seems to fail). Those two points are the copyright
surface (this is the one that makes the game fail early), and the
timeframe surface.

After some mindless trial and error, the problem appears to be related
to the use of enumerate in for loops (it seems to keep some reference
on the alpha 2D array which itself is linked to the surface). Because
of the remaining link, the unlock() fails. I have a local change that
replaces enumerate by range in some for loops, and it seems to
correct the problem (I could start and play several games with pygame
1.8.1).

I will try to come up with a debdiff and maybe even a version in a PPA
(Christmas vacation may make this more difficult).

[Bug 275492] Re: monsterz.py crashed with error in blit()

2008-12-25 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
Patch generated using 'bzr diff'. I will be on vacation for the next few
days, so I won't be able to generate a real debdiff or ask for an upload
until January.

Anyone from MOTU to have a look at this ? Thanks.

** Attachment added: For loop changes for pygame 1.8.1

[Bug 275492] Re: monsterz.py crashed with error in blit()

2008-11-18 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
Seems related to what I'm seeing here, a crash a few seconds after start
up :

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ monsterz

File /usr/share/games/monsterz/monsterz.py, line 403, in blit

pygame.error: Surfaces must not be locked during blit

I spent some time tracking this down (this was a regression from hardy) :
monsterz intrepid (0.7.1) + pythom-pygame intrepid (1.8.1) =blit error
monsterz hardy (0.7.0)+ pythom-pygame intrepid (1.8.1) = blit error
monsterz intrepid (0.7.1) + pythom-pygame hardy (1.7.1)= works fine

I read on a pygame mailing list that locking changes were made in 1.8.x,
this seems to break monsterz

This has been seen on Gentoo as well :
http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=238774

And has also been relayed upstream, but no reply so far:
http://sam.zoy.org/monsterz/msg00092.html

[Bug 200338] Re: no sound hardy kernel 2.6.24-12

2008-08-11 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
@Leo: May I suggest the following?
- Authorize the hardy-proposed channel and install the 2.6.24.20 kernel and the
related 2.6.24.20 modules. It will create a new module directory for this
kernel (differnent from the .19 one). If your problem comes from something gone
wrong when upgrading gutsy to hardy, this may solve your problem.
OR
- Download the Hardy Live CD, and boot on it to see if you get sound. If it
does, a clean install is your best shot.

As for your previous comment, I have the virtualbox kernel module
installed and it works for me.

Good luck.

[Bug 241731] Re: no sound through ALSA

2008-08-07 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
Ok, found a pointer to this page:

http://linux.dell.com/wiki/index.php/Ubuntu_8.04/Issues/No_Sound_After_Distribution_Or_Kernel_Upgrade

This may be the answer to this bug, I will try it tonight and post the
results.

Ok the previous link solved my problem, but I am not sure my problem was
related to the first description of the bug. My problem is more related
to LP #200338

Sorry for the noise, I'll post the link there.

[Bug 200338] Re: no sound hardy kernel 2.6.24-12

2008-08-07 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
It seems that for some Dell hardware, snd-hda-intel.ko is modified to
accomodate hsfmodem. This broke sound for me on an Inspiron 1525 for the
Intel soundcard.

If you have the following file /lib/modules/2.6.24-XX-
generic/ubuntu/sound/alsa-driver/pci/hda/snd-hda-
intel.ko.REPLACEDBYhsfmodem AND suffer from this problem, go to the
following page

http://linux.dell.com/wiki/index.php/Ubuntu_8.04/Issues/No_Sound_After_Distribution_Or_Kernel_Upgrade

This solved my sound problem on recent kernels.

[Bug 249340] Re: Gutsy-Hardy upgrade hangs in localedef

2008-08-06 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
I have also had this problem (makes Gutsy - Hardy a pain), with exactly
the same symptoms and solution.

As it seems that the problem is well documented, and there is a work-around,
why is this bug still marked Incomplete ? Is there any file one of us can add
to this bug report to help reproduce it ?
Or is there any chance that a code analysis between 2.6.22.14 (good) and
2.6.22.15 (bad) may give pointers to the race condition ?

[Bug 241731] Re: no sound through ALSA

2008-08-06 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
@Benjamin: I think your problem is / was different from the one reported

About this bug, I got hit too, it seems that for kernels 2.6.24.19 and
2.6.24.20, the snd-hda-intel module fails to load (unknown symbol errors
on snd-hda-codec and snd-hda-intel appear in dmesg - I can get the logs
if needed -).

On previous kernels 2.6.22.14 and 2.6.22.15, snd-hda-intel is properly
loaded at start time, and sound obviously works fine

What strikes me as odd is that there are no less than 3 snd-hda-intel
modules for the 2.6.24.19 kernel

$ locate snd-hda-intel | grep 2.6.24
/lib/modules/2.6.24-19-generic/ubuntu/sound/alsa-driver/pci/hda/snd-hda-intel.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.24-19-generic/ubuntu/sound/alsa-driver/pci/hda/snd-hda-intel.ko.REPLACEDBYhsfmodem
/lib/modules/2.6.24-19-generic/updates/snd-hda-intel.ko

Is this something expected ?

BTW, I installed linux-ubuntu-modules from the dell-team ppa (because I
own a Dell Inspiron preloaded with Ubuntu and I kept the source after
the gutsy- hardy upgrade),

[Bug 212537] Re: Please sync gramps (3.0.0-4) from Debian unstable for Hardy. Is it possible?

2008-05-19 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
Debian is now at version 3.0.0-6, and upstream released 3.0.1 some time
ago...

Unless I am mistaken, gramps will be automatically merged from Debian
into Intrepid Ibex. However, there is little chance gramps 3.0 will be
updated for hardy... (this would a be a major version upgrade, on a LTS
release...)

[Bug 128042] Re: [needs-packaging] PSPVC - A GTK2 PSP Video Convertor

2007-09-28 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
I gave a look at this request because I would also need this application
(advertised here https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PSP).

I have absolutely no experience at deb packaging, but I looked at the
pspvc package (version 3.0, the latest) to see how difficult it would
be.

PSPVC depends on:
- nasm
- libfaac
- libxvidcore
- liba52
- gtk2
(as described on the project's website http://pspvc.sourceforge.net/ )

But, it also comes with an embedded copy of :
- ffmpeg (0.4.9) and
- libx264 (svn-20060114).
From the install.sh fine, it installs both in subdirectories upon install. The
version of ffmpeg in gutsy is 20070307 and it also depends on libx264 20070309

Looks difficult... Even a correct packaging with the latest ffmpeg
version might bring a buggy pspvc.
