[Bug 1953260] [NEW] simple-scan fails to connect to scanner while ippusbxd or ipp-usb are running
Public bug reported: I just upgraded from 18.04, where this wasn't a problem. On 20.04, whenever I try to scan a document with simple-scan while ippusbxd or ipp-usb are running (I tried with both) it will fail to connect to the printer and show the following message in a popup: "Failed to scan: Unable to connect to scanner". I'm not sure what causes this, but whenever I kill ippusbxd (sudo killall -9 ippusbxd) scanning works again. That breaks printing for me though, so now I have to do this awkward dance of killing and restarting ippusbxd to scan or print. I've found quite a bit of people having comparable problems with printers on Ubuntu 20.04 (see https://askubuntu.com/questions/1233521/printer-problems-after- installing-ubuntu-20-04 and https://askubuntu.com/questions/1258462/ubuntu-20-04-simple-scan-does- not-detect-scanner ) but this is the only workardoung for scanning that worked for me. Some people online recommended replacing ippusbxd with ipp-usb from https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/pzz/xUbuntu_20.04/amd64/ but ipp-usb caused the same problem for me. Re: [Bug 1875471] Re: python3-certbot-nginx is incompatible with its dependencies
If you want to do a more extensive test, I just added end-to-end nginx certbot testing in Debian sid. You should be able to pull it out of the source package and run it by hand just by invoking the script from the extracted source tarball, as long as you have pebble and the nginx plugin installed. [Bug 1866074] [NEW] 440.59-0ubuntu0.19.10.2 DKMS Build Fail on Kernel 5.6-rc4

[Bug 1857271] Re: Focal 440.44-0ubuntu1 PRIME Sync not working
@vanvugt I manually changed the PPA target to focal in the apt sources list file: cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/graphics-drivers-ubuntu-ppa-disco.list deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/graphics-drivers/ppa/ubuntu focal main I was doing this because I'm running the latest mainline Ubuntu kernels as they have a bunch of driver fixes for my other devices. I also update the linux-firmware package to a similar level to match the current development distribution (i.e. focal). The focal packages are targeted at these kernel versions, so I try to keep the kernel, graphics drivers and linux-firmware packages in sync on my system for the expected performance. My guess is the nvidia drivers will get backported once they're tested as working on the newer kernels for the latest/dev distributions. That code path fails to detect that neither --wait or -w is supported, since iptables-restore returns a successful return code on invalid parameters and firewalld uses the return code to detect whether it works: # echo "#foo" | /sbin/iptables-restore --wadit=2; echo $? /sbin/iptables-restore: unrecognized option '--wadit=2' 0 The current version of firewalld fixed that, by looking for the error message as well: https://github.com/firewalld/firewalld/commit/2e929389eb15b12e96f18e5fe3dc5ae31639e8dd -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1835188 Title: firewalld attempts to use parameter that requires a newer iptables version To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firewalld/+bug/1835188/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1835188] [NEW] firewalld attempts to use parameter that requires a newer iptables version
Public bug reported: firewalld from Ubuntu 18.04 LTS sometimes attempts to use the `--wait` option to iptables-restore, which is only valid on iptables 1.8.x and newer and not on 1.6.1, as bundled with bionic. (At least according to the man page, the comments in the firewalld code implies that it was supported on an older version, but that might be with Fedora patches) This seems to originate from firewalld-0.4.4.6/src/firewall/core/ipXtables.py, line 337. If this runs firewalld fails to create the rules when starting, resulting in wither no rules loaded, or the policies loaded, without any rules, which blocks SSH. It is not clear when this gets triggered, with several servers deployed with the same Ansible script, some have this issue, some work fine. The unit file was overwriten as per this to get it to start in the first place: https://github.com/firewalld/firewalld/issues/414 The warning that accompanies the failed rule loading is: ``` WARNING: '/sbin/iptables-restore --wait=2 -n' failed: /sbin/iptables-restore: unrecognized option '--wait=2'#012iptables-restore: line 93 failed ``` iptables version: 1.6.1-2ubuntu2 firewalld version: 0.4.4.6-1 ** Affects: firewalld (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1835188 Title: firewalld attempts to use parameter that requires a newer iptables version To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firewalld/+bug/1835188/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1810636] Re: QCA6174 doesn't utilise btcoex - Ubuntu 18 Bluetooth Audio Skip/Stutter/Delay WiFi bandwidth conflict Dell XPS 9570
Ok, I'm pretty sure this is a pulseaudio issue now and I'm going to close. I reverted back to linux-firmware 1.176, and I had also used undervolt [1] to help reduce thermal load on the Core i9 Dell XPS 15 which has suffered from thermal shutdown under high load. I disabled undervolt service from running and ensured everything was back to normal values - the stuttering improved, but was still present. I then focused on the difference between my Mi8 and my Ubuntu 18.10 installation. The Mi8 is running a LinesageOS ROM that supports LDAC/Apt-X codecs. I noticed with the regular AD2P codec in Ubuntu that I was getting some noise included in the Bluetooth audio encoding, and it sounded much cleaner via the Mi8 connection. I then found pulseaudio- modules-bt repo on github [2] that includes [3] a Ubuntu 18.04|18.10 repo that enabled LDAC/Apt-X codecs, LDAC is supported by the Sony bluetooth speaker. After installing and rebooting the machine, I confirmed that the codec was correctly initialised in the a2dp sync: berg@bxps:~$ pactl list sinks | grep -e bluez -e a2dp_codec Name: bluez_sink.E0_37_BF_09_F9_8B.a2dp_sink Driver: module-bluez5-device.c Monitor Source: bluez_sink.E0_37_BF_09_F9_8B.a2dp_sink.monitor bluetooth.a2dp_codec = "LDAC" device.api = "bluez" bluez.path = "/org/bluez/hci0/dev_E0_37_BF_09_F9_8B" bluez.class = "0x240414" bluez.alias = "bshg" The sound is now perfect, and copying files across the network results in no stuttering. I think this proves that the btcoex support is working correctly and there is no issue specifically with the Qualcomm firmware. I notice if I pair the bluetooth speaker and play back audio my network throughput is limited to about 14-15 MB/s, when I turn of the speaker it improves to 17-18 MB/s. So the module is correctly allowing bluetooth to operate with priority. Resuming the undervolt [1] service, I notice no stuttering as well with the updated pulseaudio and pulseaudio-module-bt packages in [2]. I'm going to continue testing for a few days before closing this bug, but I'm pretty sure I've gotten to the bottom of this one. Thanks @kaihenfeng. To clarify, higher bandwidth transfers on the radio seems to increase the stuttering, delay. Here is my tlp config, incase there's anything in there you think could be related to my issues because of power saving etc. ** Attachment added: "tlp config" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1810636/+attachment/5227370/+files/tlp -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1810636 Title: QCA6174 doesn't utilise btcoex - Ubuntu 18 Bluetooth Audio Skip/Stutter/Delay WiFi bandwidth conflict Dell XPS 9570 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1810636/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1810636] Re: QCA6174 doesn't utilise btcoex - Ubuntu 18 Bluetooth Audio Skip/Stutter/Delay WiFi bandwidth conflict Dell XPS 9570
Ok, I managed to get the latest firmware working. It still exhibits the same issue. I think I must of only rebooted last time instead of shutting down completely. I've tried the speaker sitting on top of the track-pad, about 50 cm away from the laptop - all to the same effect - the it's like it misses an audio packet, and rather than dropping the packet, it re-transmits again, buffering all subsequent packets for the stream. I would rather lose the packets completely in this case. The speaker is a Sony SRS-HG1. I can pair the speaker to my Xiaomi Mi8 phone and it negotiates LDAC codec for the Bluetooth audio sink. I can then run high load on the Mi8 WiFi and play a movie in FullHD over DLNA and it never skips a beat, there is a small delay as you'd expect with Bluetooth, but it's less than 100 ms and seems normal after a short while. I experienced this problem also in another location when I was house sitting recently - so different environment/access points etc. I think demonstrating the problem with the speaker and my phone without any problems puts me back on the firmware/driver troubleshooting path. Do you have any other ideas @kaihengfeng? [Bug 1810636] [NEW] QCA6174 doesn't utlise btcoex - Ubuntu 18 Bluetooth Audio Skip/Stutter/Delay WiFi bandwidth conflict Dell XPS 9570
Public bug reported: I'm running Linux 4.20.0-042000-generic #201812232030 x64 on a Dell XPS 9570 with QCA6174 chipset, and have had the problem with Bluetooth audio choppiness ever since I have owned this laptop. This problem has persisted for me with previous kernels. It started with Ubuntu 18.04 and continues with 18.10. I'm running . It's particularly noticeable when the when saturating the WLAN connection with throughput, i.e. copying a large file sequentially across from a samba share, but also streaming video online results in the audio progressively delaying over-time. [Bug 1786575] [NEW] Dell XPS 15 9570 - Thermal Shutdown Event & Annoying Full-Speed Fan Spin Up
Public bug reported: Main Problems: - Incorrect performance throttling results in Thermal Shutdown Event (~100C on CPU) as reported in BIOS log - System fan during system idle powers at full speed for 1 second every minute or so (could also be GPU fan) Environment: Dell BIOS: 1.3.0 (Also present in 1.2.0, 1.1.3) CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-8950HK CPU @ 2.90GHz Operating Systems: Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS Thermald Version: 1.7 Ubuntu Thermald Package: 1.7.0-5ubuntu1 Kernel: 4.17.14-041714-generic (Also present with 4.15.0-29, 4.15.0-30, 4.17.11-041711) Intel Microcode: 3.20180425.1~ubuntu0.18.04.2 Nvidia Driver: 396.51-0ubuntu0~gpu18.04.1 TLP Package: 1.1-2ubuntu1 I've documented this issue on the thermald Github page with thermald debug logs and configuration: https://github.com/intel/thermal_daemon/issues/161 Basically, I've attempted to set the temperature for B0D4 to as low as 85000 and while the debug log seems to indicate the trip has be made, the CPU scailing isn't working to keep the CPU from thermal shutdown. [Bug 1720126] Re: [ip link] Message truncated error for large number of passthrough VFs
** Description changed: - I've ran into an issue when creating a large number of virtual functions - on a SR-IOV capable device. + [Impact] - ip link show reports a message truncated error: + When querying a Physical Function netdev with a large amount of VF's + (more than 30), the resulting return message can overflow the 16K + netlink message buffer. + + This can be fixed by enabling message peeking on the socket and resizing + the buffer on receive, or by simply enlarging the receive buffer. + + Since there's an upper limit to the number of VF's per PF, it's + relatively sane to just enlarge the receive buffer. Please see the + attached patch. + + [Test Case] + + # Set up 60 VF's on an SR-IOV device ip link show > /dev/null Message truncated Message truncated Message truncated - A likely cause might be that when called in a system where the number of - PCIe Virtual Functions are more than 30 for a given Physical Function, - the netlink response is larger than 16K, meaning that a message is - truncated. + [Regression Potential] - The issue is seen with Ubuntu14.04 and Ubuntu16.04. + 1) Applications relying on the broken behaviour will need to be updated, but it would be a really dubious use case. + 2) Increasing the rx buffer size increases the memory footprint (but realistically, this is tiny). + 3) Extra processing time is now needed to parse the larger buffer, in the case that a call to "ip link" is on the critical time path of an application, (called multiple times in a tight loop, for example), it would affect load. - A possible solution for the issue is to increase the size of the receive - buffer in libnetlink.c + All of the above are mitigated because this workaround is in upstream + iproute2 and has been running on different distributions without + repercussions. - Additional information: + [Other Info] + + Observed on Ubuntu kernel 4.4.0-93-generic on both 14.04 and 16.04 + = Ubuntu16 system stack@cluster04:~$ lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available.
