[Bug 178442] Re: Pulseaudio fails to initialize ICE1712 chipsets
I had this problem with the M-Audio Audiophile 24/96. Neither analogue inputs nor outputs were showing up in PulseAudio. What fixed it for me was the patch attached to PulseAudio ticket #624: http://www.pulseaudio.org/attachment/ticket/624/pulseaudio-add-profile- sets-for-M_Audio-Audiophile-2496.patch Following the lead of muttnik in comment #52 above, the two files I had to edit were: /lib/udev/rules.d/90-pulseaudio.rules /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/profile-sets/m_audio-audiophile-2496.conf I tried muttnik's customized versions of the patch first, but it did not allow applications to record from my card. The original version from ticket #624 worked, however. Thanks to muttnik for putting me on the right track. ** Bug watch added: www.pulseaudio.org/attachment/ #624 http://www.pulseaudio.org/attachment/ticket/624 -- Pulseaudio fails to initialize ICE1712 chipsets https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/178442 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 561194] [NEW] PulseAudio and M-Audio 2496: no analogue inputs available and apps get no sound
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pulseaudio rich...@beast:~$ apt-cache policy pulseaudio pulseaudio: Installed: 1:0.9.22~0.9.21+stable-queue-32-g8478-0ubuntu14 Candidate: 1:0.9.22~0.9.21+stable-queue-32-g8478-0ubuntu14 Version table: *** 1:0.9.22~0.9.21+stable-queue-32-g8478-0ubuntu14 0 500 http://mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status rich...@beast:~$ uname -a Linux beast 2.6.32-20-generic #29-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 9 20:35:00 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux rich...@beast:~$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu lucid (development branch) Release:10.04 When I first installed 10.04 there was no sound from the M-Audio 2496 card. I followed the instructions suggested by Alexandre Touret in response to bug #515874 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source /asoundconf-gtk/+bug/515874/comments/2). Adding those two lines to /usr/share/alsa/cards/ICE1712.conf got an analogue stereo output showing in the PulseAudio Volume Control, and I can now hear sound from my applications. However, I cannot seem to get applications to receive audio from the analogue inputs on the M-Audio card. If I open the Envy24 Control Utility and go to the Monitor Inputs tab, I can see a response on the meters for H/W In 1 and H/W In 2, and I can verify by panning the microphone channel on my external mixer that the mixer's left output is connected to H/W In 1 and the right output to H/W In 2. But the sound from the card's hardware inputs does not seem to be available to applications. I can see no analogue inputs in the PulseAudio Volume Control or PulseAudio Device Chooser. Do I need to add more lines to /usr/share/alsa/cards/ICE1712.conf to enable PulseAudio to recognize the card's inputs? The only input options I see are various digital (IEC958) inputs. And does the patch at http://www.mail-archive.com/ubuntu-devel- disc...@lists.ubuntu.com/msg10824.html offer a more permanent solution? Is that in the works? [Bug 441993] Re: Visual Effects setting is not saved between sessions
I also had the experience of Gnome's Visual Effects reverting to none each time I logged out. But it turned out to be not so much a bug as a case of non-obvious UI design. I got what I wanted as follows: 1. Log in to a Gnome session 2. Go to System Preferences Appearance Visual Effects 3. Select Extra 4. Click Close 5. Go to System Preferences Startup Applications Options 6. Click Remember Currently Running Application This gives a notice that the session has been saved. Then I configured Compiz the way I wanted it and logged off. Next time I logged on Compiz was running by default and my settings were preserved. -- Visual Effects setting is not saved between sessions https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/441993 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 252977] Re: Hardy and Intrepid freeze with kernel error: Eeek! page_mapcount(page) went negative! (-1)
It has been a while since I followed up on this bug report. I removed Ubuntu from the machine in question and tried Debian instead, and neither the stable nor the testing builds were 100% stable on this machine. Just as a test I replaced Debian with Windows 7. This has not proved 100% reliable either on the machine, with occasional blue screen errors. At this point I suspect there is a hardware fault somewhere in the CPU or motherboard of this machine. I have not seen this bug on any of my other Ubuntu machines. -- Hardy and Intrepid freeze with kernel error: Eeek! page_mapcount(page) went negative! [Bug 252977] Re: Hardy and Intrepid freeze with kernel error: Eeek! page_mapcount(page) went negative! (-1)
Oddly, the syslog has started including some trace information since I redirected tty0 output to the serial port. I don't know why this would be, but attached is the console output and corresponding syslog for another Eeek! incident. This happened when I wasn't doing anything directly on the machine, but had the desktop and (I think) Thunar file manager open. Unlike the previous incident the desktop was displaying correctly, and the desktop only froze about a minute after I saw the errors appearing on the minicom terminal. ** Attachment added: Minicom output + syslog, 2009-01-25 http://launchpadlibrarian.net/21612581/minicom-plus-syslog-2009012502.tar.gz -- Hardy and Intrepid freeze with kernel error: Eeek! page_mapcount(page) went negative! [Bug 252977] Re: Hardy and Intrepid freeze with kernel error: Eeek! page_mapcount(page) went negative! (-1)
I finally got around to hooking up a serial console so that I could record the error messages that flash by on the console. I attach the output from one Eeek! incident. What happened here was: I booted the computer and logged in as usual, but instead of my usual XFCE desktop with icons and wallpaper I saw just a grey desktop with the XFCE panels top and bottom. I clicked the Quit icon on the top panel and chose Log out and the result was what you see in the attachment. There are two files in the attached archive. Between these two I stupidly pressed CTRL-ALT-DEL on the wrong machine by accident (I pressed it on the machine I was logging from, not the machine with the problem), so I missed some of the error messages that were continually flashing by on screen while the machine running minicom rebooted. The second file is what I managed to capture after it rebooted. ** Attachment added: Errors captured via serial console 2009-01-25 http://launchpadlibrarian.net/21612000/minicom-cap-2009012501.tar.gz -- Hardy and Intrepid freeze with kernel error: Eeek! page_mapcount(page) went negative! I don't know whether this is relevant, but today I got a different kind of hang - the symptoms on screen were the same, with the whole system becoming unresponsive to mouse or keyboard, and unavailable over the network, shortly after I logged in to the (XFCE) desktop. But in the logs this looks quite different, with many segfaults in udevd earlier during bootup. I find it curious that the point where I was forced to restart the system resembles the point where the Eeek! error tends to occur (see syslog in the attached archive). I am going to run memtest on this machine again just to be sure, though previous runs have not turned up any RAM errors. ** Attachment added: 2009-01-15 logs with segfaults http://launchpadlibrarian.net/21254671/segfaults-2009011501.tar.gz -- Hardy and Intrepid freeze with kernel error: Eeek! page_mapcount(page) went negative! That reinstallation gave the current error. rich...@blackbox:~$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 8.10 Release:8.10 rich...@blackbox:~$ apt-cache policy samba samba: Installed: 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.3 Candidate: 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.3 Version table: *** 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.3 0 500 http://gulus.usherbrooke.ca intrepid-updates/main Packages 500 http://gulus.usherbrooke.ca intrepid-security/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3 0 500 http://gulus.usherbrooke.ca intrepid/main Packages rich...@blackbox:~$ ProblemType: Package Architecture: i386 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.10 ErrorMessage: subprocess new post-removal script returned error exit status 132 NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx Package: samba 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.3 SourcePackage: samba Title: package samba 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new post-removal script returned error exit status 132 Uname: Linux 2.6.27-11-generic i686 ** Affects: samba (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-package -- package samba 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new post-removal script returned error exit status 132 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/312648 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

OK, since the early releases of Intrepid I have not had this particular problem. Though there have been a lot of freezeups during boot on this particular machine I have not seen the Eeek! message or the freezeups while using the desktop. [Bug 263837] Re: VMWare Server on kernel 2.6.27-2-generic: cannot compile vmmon module
Just to save anyone else the trouble of trying this: I saw the discussion of problems with VMWare and the 2.6.26 kernel at the following page: http://www.nowhere.dk/archives/2008/07/23/vmware_workstation_6_0_4_on_ubuntu_intrepid_ibex_kernel_2_6_26/index.php (See also: http://communities.vmware.com/thread/154066;jsessionid=B873F35D2FF24AAF3D0CBE6F0CD5FB0C?tstart=0 ) So just as an experiment I downloaded the three updated modules mentioned: http://www.nowhere.dk/files/vm/vmmon.tar http://www.nowhere.dk/files/vm/vmblock.tar http://www.nowhere.dk/files/vm/vmnet.tar and I attempted to rerun vmware-config.pl. Looking back at the syslogs I have posted, I notice that the following message often occurs shortly before the Eeek! message: NetworkManager: WARN nm_dbus_get_networks_cb(): error received: org.freedesktop.NetworkManagerInfo.NoNetworks - There are no wireless networks stored.. Is this a clue? When I first installed the OS there was a wireless card in a PCI slot on the machine. During my early attempts to figure out what was making this machine unstable I removed the wireless card. Perhaps there is something lingering as a result of this? The label on the (now removed) wireless card says: TP-LINK TL-WN651G 108M Wireless PCI Adapter Super-G (TM) and eXtended Range (TM) 108Mbps 2.4GHz - 802.11g/b FCC ID: TE7WN65XG -- 8.04.1 freezes with kernel error: Eeek! page_mapcount(page) went negative! [Bug 205439] Re: rhythmbox crashed with SIGSEGV in g_slice_free_chain_with_offset()
Rhythmbox just crashed while playing a tune and adding lots of mp3's to the library. Besides mp3's there were also a lot of comic books (.cbr files) on the media drives wich (obvious) resulted in errors (gstreamer and rar message). I suspect there's a link with the volume mount point bug. -- rhythmbox crashed with SIGSEGV in g_slice_free_chain_with_offset() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/205439 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 101845] Re: Automounted Volumes mount points change
I confirm that's a problem occuring the last 1 or 2 day's. Having 3 USB Harddrives (around 1 TB of music, photo's and comic books) and 4 reboots later (update and trials) i'm having 12 entry's in the /media folder. The problem is not only the iPod but also Rhythmbox, Amorak, Digikam, MythTV and Comix. They can't find the media files anymore. -- Automounted Volumes mount points change https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/101845 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 207693] Re: gnome-panel crashed with SIGSEGV
Just a side-note, it alse crashes with 4 virtual desktops. Just wait for the balloon to pop-up and switch to another desktop by clicking on it and there she goes.. And indeed its reproducible for just a couple times (i tried it for several times and it looks like it is stable when it crashes three times, after a reboot you can try it again). -- gnome-panel crashed with SIGSEGV https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/207693 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
