[Bug 835833] Re: spurious syslog error message because of use of -w on boot [rpcbind.xdr / portmap.xdr : errno 2 (no such file)]
I'm not sure, if I'd found the reason for this bug being around in recent releases, but IMHO it is a remnant from a release update: I had it on two systems which I upgraded from 12.10 to 13.04 It's gone now on both systems after doing some de-/installing, including a complete deinstallation of all parts of KDE (w/ reboot) and the new installation of KDE 4.10 To repeat myself: I just guess the solution is related to the complete re-installation of KDE. I'd done a lot of changes on the installed packages (to get rid of strange problems with dolphin and KDE-systemsettings in Ubuntu/Unity) and just saw afterwards, that, together with the strange problems, the rpcbind error was gone. [Bug 1106271] Re: systemsettings does not start
Running Unity within the KDE shell works, but it doesn't seem to be what I'm really looking for. But now, I'm lucky, since I found this tip, while googling for another strange error message, in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2130894p=12581777#post12581777 Install ubuntu-sdk! This installation seems to fix all the problems I had with KDE-apps in Unity, including blank highlighted text on mouse-hover, dolphin's endless start, systemsettings problems, even an MTP connection to my S2 with mtp:/GT-I9105P/ works. I'll try it and report problems, if they still exist. If others can confirm this solution for the problem, this bug can be closed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1106271 Title: systemsettings does not start To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kde-runtime/+bug/1106271/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1106271] Re: systemsettings does not start
Found a solution, but not the reason for the problem... I just combined KDE and Unity, that is, I now start with a KDE login and put unity in the autostart. I had to resize/reposition the KDE toolbar, because I use the Unity toolbar without autohide. Unity just works like a charm, and there are no problems with dolphin or unavailable KDE services anymore.
It happens only, if I try to start the systemsettings from within Ubuntu (Unity). If I log in with a KDE shell, everything's fine. (I tried to start it, since I have problems with dolphin: It seems to wait for something, because it is unresponsible for minutes. Same behavior as with systemsettings: With a KDE-shell login, it runs fine, with a Unity login the problem occurs. Might be related to some service, which is not started from the Unity shell) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1106271 Title: systemsettings does not start To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kde-runtime/+bug/1106271/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1106271] Re: systemsettings does not start
Okay, it's running now (but not fully)! What I did: I started systemsettings from within a KDE shell and changed: - Opened Desktopsuche (might be desktop search in English localisation?) - Gave it 100Mb instead of 50MB - Switched of Email Search There's still a problem with the nepomuk services, since starting the Desktopsuche from another Unity login grays out the systemsettings and opens it after a long while. There's maybe something wrong with the nepomuk file indexer not running within Unity... [Bug 254668] Re: [2.6.27] pausing during boot (several issues)
Maybe I suffered from a different bug, because the one I had encountered is gone with the latest Gnome update just a few days ago. That is, there's neither a delay on boot nor on shutdown anymore. [Bug 254668] Re: [2.6.27] pausing during boot (several issues)
Wrong turn... The boot delay came back, so I changed /e/n/interfaces back to auto eht0. That is, the error message on /etc/init.d/networking stop or restart is still Ignoring unknown interface eth0=eth0 Switching off the router circumvents the problem, but it seems, just because of a broken process: I once saw an error message like signal xy caught, when I switched off the router and (which happens occasionally at that point) the Ubuntu shutdown progress bar disappears to show the text output. [Bug 254668] Re: [2.6.27] pausing during boot (several issues)
For the shutdown hang: The chance it belongs to a network misconfiguration is very high, because when I switch off the router the PC is connected to, the PC almost immediately continues to shutdown. Does this information helps someone to solve the issue? [Bug 254668] Re: [2.6.27] pausing during boot (several issues)
Got a short moment: I tried sudo /etc/network/networking stop which gave me Ignoring unknown interface eth0=eth0. After googling for that, I changed /etc/network/interfaces (partly) from auto eth0 to auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp With this configuration, I can (again) (re-)start the networking service. I guess, the system will shutdown with the router still on. I'll report the behavior ASAP. -- [2.6.27] pausing during boot (several issues) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/254668 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 254668] Re: [2.6.27] pausing during boot (several issues)
Just a few minutes after my last comment, I stumbled upon this thread: http://backports.ubuntuforums.com/showthread.php?p=6036473 which, at least for me and probably Grizzly, includes the solution of the issue (tested on boot time, I have to do another shutdown after writing this :-) I changed /etc/network/interfaces and commented out everything concerning a non-automatic configuration of eth0. Now it looks similar to this snippet: auto eth0 # iface eth0 inet dhcp # address 192.168.99.4 # netmask 255.255.255.0 # gateway 192.168.99.1 I had to leave the settings for the loopback device as they are, otherwise the nfsd hung in a timeout. You'll find the modified file attached. (BTW: I guess, the gconf-error (described by Grizzly) has vanished, too, but I haven't memorized the way to reproduce it, so I'll just have to wait and see) -- [2.6.27] pausing during boot (several issues) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/254668 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
