[Bug 1773512] [NEW] Installer does not respect selected locale for user password-setup

2018-05-26 Thread theghost
Public bug reported:

Ubiquity uses the wrong locale for user setup.

If I install Ubuntu 18.04 with the live installer, selecting e.g. German
as language and using LUKS encryption the installer uses the correct
locale (de_DE) for the LUKS password but always the wrong locale (en_US)
for the user password.

This results in the effect that you can boot into Ubuntu but are locked
out because the password for your user is wrong.

On both places (LUKS password and user password) the selected locale
(here de_DE) should be used.

[Bug 1047384] Re: System Encryption Password set before setting keyboard locale

2017-11-06 Thread theghost
Beginning with 17.10 this is an issue. Before 17.10 you could workaround
the issue by installing an encrypted luks in your locale by starting the
live desktop and setting the correct keyboard BEFORE starting the
installer.

This workaround does not work anymore since 17.10.
It's pretty sad that this is still an issue today...especially since the issue
is known for years.

Afaik, the only distribution installers doing it right at the moment are
Fedora's Anaconda and Antergos Cnchi.
Suse is currently working on a proper upstream fix for Systemd:
http://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1046436 so this issue will be fixed
for OpenSuse in the next Leap version.
It's also an issue on Manjaro's Calamares.

[Bug 1048156] Re: soffice.bin crashed with SIGSEGV in UpdateNativeMenu()

2013-05-28 Thread TheGhost
This is fixed in the current development version of Ubuntu as it uses
LibreOffice4.

For Quantal I don't need no attention anymore, because I use Raring now and
there it works.
If it is not fixed in Quantal the developers / Ubuntu / Canonical gambles away
their own reputation. It's sad for Quantal users but I guess that's the price
for Ubuntu's strange release model...

[Bug 1183706] [NEW] Music lens takes very long to update on startup

2013-05-24 Thread TheGhost
Public bug reported:

The unity-music-lens causes a lot of HDD activity after login just to
update a few changes on a large music collection ( 4k songs).

Steps to reproduce:

1. Get your music collection in the unity-music-lens
2. Delete / move some songs in / out of the collection
3. Reboot

It takes very very long until the changes are updated, which means heavy HDD
activity a long time after startup.
Maybe the music-daemon rereads the whole collection instead of recognizing the
changes only.

[Bug 1170958] Re: [Regression] Panel shadow dropped on full screen windows after notification

2013-05-22 Thread TheGhost
Yet another workaround is to enable the workspace switcher icon in
Unity.

To my mind it is logical to release error fixes as fast as possible
after they went to QA. But instead every user has to wait until the
whole Unity 7.0.1 version is ready. Why don't you release error fixes
ASAP and bring new features / refactories in a minor version (like
7.0.x) ?

I can understand that a lot of users are angry about this. They see
these issues every day in production / daily use, while the fix is
already available.

Is there at least a schedule when this fix lands in Proposed ?

[Bug 1179906] [NEW] X11 plots always completely blank

2013-05-14 Thread TheGhost
Public bug reported:

R uses by default cairo for X11 type.
When plotting a graph, e.g. plot(1:10,1:10) the plot window remains blank.
This is seems a regression in R version 2.15.2 and is fixed in R 2.15.3.

FYI plotting in 12.04 works, it's broken in 13.04+.

So please update the R package or patch it using the patch from Fedora for
example. I will link Fedora's as well as R's upstream bugreport.

For all who suffer from this. There are 2 workarounds.

1. call X11(type=Xlib) before each plot

or

2. Resize the plot window

[Bug 1012167] Re: Version of PDFSam in the repository is incredibly old

2013-04-10 Thread TheGhost
It's the curse of Debian :)
Even Debian sid (unstable) still has 1.1.4.
The package maintainers are discussing the upgrade.
So when Debian has a new version, Ubuntu will get a new version too, when the
packages for a new release are synced.
Seems like we have to wait, some more releases :(

[Bug 1130746] Re: Update to nautilus 3.7.90

2013-03-14 Thread TheGhost
One of the main benefits of a newer nautilus would be the reactivation
of recursive file search, which is broken in 3.6 and is a kind of
regression compared to older Ubuntu versions. In short this regression
would not be very user friendly.

How is the status on this request ? Is there a chance to see nautilus
3.7 in Raring without PPAs ?

I don't think it's an duplicate of #717970. As written above, this issue is
still not resolved for me with 3.5.0-23.
Also the lost sync issue occurs even after fresh boot and not only after resume.

[Bug 717970] Re: After sleep, key presses get lost and trackpad is jittery

2013-02-07 Thread TheGhost
As written in my original bug report 896922. I still suffer from lost sync
issues with my touchpad in Quantal using 3.5.0-23-generic.
Also this issue appears after fresh boot and not resuming.

It is really easy to reproduce. Steps to reproduce:

1. Start typing text in a program like firefox.
2. Try to use your touchpad immediatly after typing.

It occurs often that the touchpad is not usable in step 2 because it lost sync.
We can still go on in my new bug 896922 if you would like and keep this fixed
but please don't mark it duplicate again. I removed it as duplicate.

Heres my dmesg log. If you need further info please contact me.

[Bug 1100320] [NEW] Annotation Font-Color is unreadable in Evince

2013-01-16 Thread TheGhost
Public bug reported:

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Open a PDF with Evince
2. Try to add an annotation
3. Write some text within the annotation

Expected to Happen:

The annotation font color is black, so that is readable on white
background.

What happens instead:

The color is yellow, so that all written text is unreadable.

Please be aware that this is a Ambiance/Radiance Theme bug as this error does
not occur on other themes like Adwaita. So switching the theme for annotations
might be a workaround.

Come on, what's so hard to fix this ? Just bring a new stable upstream
version for LibreOffice. At the moment it is unuseable, everytime a try
to edit a diagram it crashes. We have January and this bug isn't fixed
since October. How can you expect to use this (Ubuntu) in a production
environment ?

[Bug 1026426] Re: LibreOffice Unity integration (launcher and switcher) is broken

2012-10-31 Thread TheGhost
It's just right to complain in this bug report. Maybe by this way this
bug will get the attention of Canonical. Every comment raises the heat
and when the heat is high enough, maybe someone will look at this. Also
if you feel spammed, just unsubscribe from this bug. As it seems, there
will be no fix sooner or later, as this bug exists since 11.04, so you
will not miss out important accouncements, if you unsubscribe.

So that beeing said, I only can agree, it's embarrasing that this is not
fixed in an LTS release and it's not fixed properly since 11.04.

As much as I like Unity. People who use LO on a daily base should switch
to another desktop environment like gnome2, kde, xfce etc.

[Bug 896922] Re: Lenovo L520 - psmouse.c: touchpad at isa0060/serio4/input0 lost sync and stops working for seconds

2012-10-22 Thread TheGhost
Ok then, let's do this again:

1. Could you please provide the information following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection#In_case_your_Touchpad_stops_working_after_a_while
?

According to this instructions of the wiki I should try to reproduce
this issue by pressing keys and look at evtest events, but only if my
external mouse is NOT working when connected.

But my external mouse is working when the touchpad is not. So no bug
filing against HAL and no looking at evtest events.

2. As well, could you please confirm this issue exists with the latest
development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily/current/ . If the issue remains, could
you please run the following command in the development release from a
Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically
gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

It is in the latest development release (Quantal), see tags. Now the
dev. release is 13.04.

3. Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ?

Tested against Mainline 3.6 rc5. Had still this issue. So which
information are exactly missing?

As part of the coorperation of Canonical with Lenovo as OEM, where the
Thinkpad L520 was/is shipped with Ubuntu preinstalled, one could think,
that there is a higher chance to get this fixed, than other issues, but
it's not the case. But why should customers of preinstalled Ubuntu as
part of an OEM deal care if there hardware (especially the touchpad) is
working properly ?

If you are using a Ubuntu kernel, not a mainline kernel, it's not
considered an upstream issue

As I have written, it's not in an Ubuntu related issue, also that's not
the problem. I can use your Mainline Kernel debs or I will compile the
Mainline Kernel by myself.

It's not that I do not want to help, and simply expect to have this
fixed or something, but I'm no kernel dev. I need instructions to go
deeper then truss, a tail of syslog, etc.

[Bug 896922] Re: Lenovo L520 - psmouse.c: touchpad at isa0060/serio4/input0 lost sync and stops working for seconds

2012-10-21 Thread TheGhost
I can understand you MeneM. I have this bug since I bought my Laptop (3 Ubuntu
releases ago).
Also I responded to a lot of bug reports concerning this issue on Launchpad.
The reaction is all the same: Please file a new bug report. It ridicolous.
Why should I file a new bug report for the same issue, with the result, that
all the other reports are beeing closed because they lost the attention,
because we have thousand of new bug reports. It's no wonder why every Ubuntu
package has this much bugs here on Launchpad. I am really tired of this
process. I just want my Laptop to work well with Ubuntu.

All in all, it seems that this issue is never going to get fixed by the
Kernel Team. So what, I will file this bug at the upstream Kernel
bugtracker, maybe people are more interested in a solution there.

So please, go on close this bug report or let it rot, like all the other
bugs, concerning this issue.

[Bug 607796] Re: Dragging and holding a selection over an entry in the Launcher should spread out windows belonging to that application

2012-10-03 Thread TheGhost
@johnlea The main issue we have is with application support, but this
is something app authors need to fix on a per app basis, not something
we can fix in the shell.

I really doubt this too. So why is it working on KDE, Gnome Shell or
XFCE ? I don't believe it is working there because it's fixed on per app
basis...

open a new report if this persists, I open a new bug-report.

When using the touchpad, it's often not working and stucks for seconds, in
short, it is unusesable.
This bug still happens in Ubuntu 11.10 on a Lenovo L520 with
3.0.0-13-generic. Its a Synaptics touchpad, maybe it's kernel bug.

  Dmesg produces the following output:

I can confirm that this is definetely NOT an issue caused by
suspend/resume. Moreover I think it's an issue often occuring on

[Bug 1026426] Re: LibreOffice Calc and Draw launcher integration broken

2012-07-29 Thread TheGhost
I also have this issue everytime using writer. Either the white lo icon
appears and I have problems to refocus lo when I open another
applications on the same workspace or the Writer icon appears (+ an
empty launcher entry with no icon) where I can select Writer when other
applications are running.

All in all I have to say LibreOffice integration in Unity is really
really broken. I cannot understand why this bug is still there, because
LibreOffice is one of Ubuntu's main applications and no one recognized
this issues. It's easily reproducable, see bug opener or just open a
saved *.odt file for example, use some other applications (normal
workflow).

As written in #896922 I could reproduce the issue without suspend /

that there must be another issue within the synaptics driver on my

[Bug 607796] Re: Dragging and holding a selection over an entry in the Launcher should spread out windows belonging to that application

Proper drag drop is definitely a must-have for every productive

[Bug 988157] Re: Context menu doesn't show

2012-04-30 Thread TheGhost
I can confirm this issue. Below is a way to reproduce this issue:

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start Clementine
2. Minimize / Maximize Clementine multiple times (not close)
3. Try right click

What is the expected output?

The right click menu appers within Clementine.

What do you see instead?

Nothing. Right click = left click
Restart necessary.

What version of the product are you using?

Clementine 1.0 (Ubuntu PPA)

On what operating system?

Ubuntu 11.10 x64 / Ubuntu 12.04 x64
only Unity 3D Desktop - not in Gnome Shell / Unity 2D

[Bug 936595] [NEW] Qt Tray does not work under Unity

2012-02-19 Thread TheGhost
Public bug reported:

Using QSystemTray of Qt under Unity does not work.
Created trays are not displayed properly in the panel.

Please fix this. It is annoying because many Qt programs in the
repositories do use the tray.

There is also a Qt bugreport containing this issue:

https://bugreports.qt-
project.org/browse/QTBUG-24085?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels
:all-tabpanel#issue-tabs

But it's obvious that it is a problem of Ubuntu, not the Qt Framework.

[Bug 664608] Re: simple-scan crashes when saving to PDF

I think the crashes are related to the scan size format. I only got
these crashes when the scan size is set to Automatically instead of
A4. When using A4 this does not happen.

[Bug 883694] Re: Downloaded subtitles not showing

2012-02-10 Thread TheGhost
@ all Ubuntu Onereic Users who want this to be fixed:

Just use the Gnome PPA from https://launchpad.net/~gnome3-team/+archive/gnome3/
This will update Totem to 3.2.1, where this issue is finally fixed.

P.S.: I know that PPAs are not the solution but where is the point in
waiting for months until the patch is being backported to the holy Totem
3.0. version.

[Bug 825858] Re: [needs-packaging] Please package oxygen-gtk3

2012-02-08 Thread TheGhost
For everyone who wants oxygen-gtk3 in Kubuntu 11.10, it's now in the
Backports PPA, thanks to Philip.

To get it to work you need to have the PPA and then:

1. sudo apt-get install gtk3-engines-oxygen
2. Go to /home/USER/.config/
3. Create a folder gtk-3.0 (without )
4. Cd created gtk-3.0 folder and create a file: settings.ini (without )
5. Open the file and paste the 2 lines:

[Settings]
gtk-theme-name = oxygen-gtk

6. Open a gtk3 app, it should now look as an oxygen app.

[Bug 896922] Re: Lenovo L520 - psmouse.c: touchpad at isa0060/serio4/input0 lost sync and stops working for seconds

2012-01-25 Thread TheGhost
@ Saumli: Thank you for testing the 12.04 kernel.

Btw: You don't have to build the vanilla kernel yourself. You can easily
test the latest vanilla kernel via Ubuntu's Mainline Kernel Builds:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/. There you can find
prebuild debs. If you want to test Kernel 3.2.1 in Ubuntu 11.10 for
example, you can install the Precise build also under 11.10:

[Bug 913090] [NEW] German package description of Kover in USC contains a typo

2012-01-07 Thread TheGhost
Public bug reported:

The german package description in the Ubuntu Software Center of Kover
contains a typo in Ubuntu 11.10.

Actual (wrong) description:

2011-11-27 Thread TheGhost
Public bug reported:

There are a lot of open bug-reports concerning this defect, but due to
the most popular report was closed by developers, with the demand to
open a new report if this persists, I open a new bug-report.

When using the touchpad, it's often not working and stucks for seconds, in
short, it is unusesable.
This bug still happens in Ubuntu 11.10 on a Lenovo L520 with 3.0.0-13-generic.
Its a Synaptics touchpad, maybe it's kernel bug.

[Bug 845321] Re: Unable to setup Ubuntu One sync with Tomboy

2011-10-22 Thread TheGhost
#16 worked fine here with Tomboy 1.8.0. Just removed the last slash and
readded it. Then the save button became activated and synchronization /
authentication with server worked fine.
