@Eric, my patch does not apply to your hardware, it applies only to 7720g. In alsa-mixer (i have installed 1.0.22 version) subwoofer is controlled by phones channel. Would it be possible for someone with the hardware to test this patch? It should be applied on top of Takashi's daily snapshot. If this doesn't say you anything, let me know and I'll make a dkms package for you as well. @Dmitri, interesting, how did that document leak out on the net? :-) Anyway, according to the ALC268 datasheet, pin 37 is connected to nid 16h. Would it be possible for someone with the hardware to do this: download and install snd-hda-tools from my ppa (ppa:diwic/maverick). Start hda_analyzer with this command: sudo hda_analyzer. Then go to Pin 16h in the left pane. You'll find a Mute button, try to unmute it. Does that make the subwoofer work? Please try this both with headphones unplugged and plugged in. Yes a subwoofer or you can call it a 3rd speaker if you want. It's a good feature since most of Laptop have very small speakers more like twiters you have a litle bit more bass. :-) My Laptop is actually a ACER 8735G and have a ALC665 if I can rely on what I find in the internet. I attached the Pinout of that chipset. The LFE is located on pin 44. I have installed Ubuntu 10.4. Sub-woofer does not work. Then I installed linux-alsa-driver-modules-2.6.32-21-generic from http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-audio-dev/ppa/ubuntu. There is no sound from woofer. I tried to change model for snd-hda-intel in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa- base.conf. thanks for being patient! i ran ( uname -r ) i was runing 2.6.31-20-generic !? also when looking through alsamixer the display is showing for playback options . Can you please try the latest alsa-driver? It's linux-alsa-driver- modules-2.6.31-19-generic from the ubuntu-audio-dev PPA.
