(2.24.0-0ubuntu8.1) and libx11-6 (2:1.1.5-2ubuntu1.1) improved the
situation on my laptop model a bit.
The Fn+F8 (battery hint) is now working.
The dimming of the brightness after disconnecting power is now
happening, although
The value in /sys/devices/virtual/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness also
changes whenever one of the three events mentioned above happens.
Today I found the following: When I set
xrandr --output LVDS --set BACKLIGHT_CONTROL native
then I can control the brightness using the function keys, xbackligh

Not sure why it say 7.15 here and 8.17 in uname. The latter is correct.
It's a custom kernel, the only change is enabling 64G. Running the
default kernel makes no difference.

The brightness problem persists. There are at least three events that should
change the brightness of this machine's screen:
- Function keys Fn/F9 and Fn/F10
- Gnome Brightness Applet

MS user and loaded up Ubuntu for kicks. My Mouse seems to freeze due to
what I think is a IRQ conflict(?) Keyboard still works. The most basic
services/ features have to work ALWAYS if you want to grow your

Evolution does not use the correct paper size when printing. In my case
(A4 paper) it effectively uses the top left hand quarter of the page

I too am getting this problem. I am using latest Edgy for evolution and
uw-imap with an imap connection mainly. However, I have other
connections, some active, some not, to various other makes of imap
server (including exchange).
I have probably got a 100 or so folders altogether. Every couple of
appears to have fixed itself, probably with

happened (for me) either with the latest compiz or
start kaffeine and look at some DVB program (or another wmv).

For me this problem occurs only and immediately after I switch VMWare
Workstation 6.0.3 to full screen mode. I'm using a Matrox P650 with the
latest drivers from Matrox. Using an older driver did not make a
difference. I also tried it with "vesa" which gives me only 800x600, but
the problem remains
More details: in my case, the xterms never crashed. Gnome applications
like gedit would crash with the first keystroke if I started them after
going full screen in VMWare. Those that I started before would continue
to work.

So, at least there's no physical problem with the port. Previously, the

I don't have my failing cab file anymore, but I found more examples! The
trick is to get a Installshield .cab file and .hdr file in the same
directory otherwise I get "Failed to open ~/data1.cab as an
InstallShield Cabinet File"
I don't have attached a cab file, so we don't start illegal
output file

In my case, the export to PDF does not work for certain large
documents. OOo gets stuck with 100% CPU in the fist "repaginate" step.
Works ok for other documents. Changing themes or uninstalling openoffice
