The problem was indeed interference between Bluetooth and WiFi access points. I found that the issue of Bluetooth vs WiFi has a number of articles, complete with recommendations. I use the plural in the latter because I found I'm surrounded with APs in this apartment complex, and some of them are putting out higher power than mine dies (Asus). Why the interference would cause Bluetooth support to crash out the way it did may be worthy of study by someone who knows more about the inner workings of the driver. For example, why would the driver disconnect from D-Bus when interference exceeds a specific level? -- Ubuntu-devel-discuss mailing list Ubuntu-devel-discuss@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-devel-discuss

Re: Bluetooth questions
More information on my problem with a Bluetooth mouse: First, this recovery sequence appears to work 100 percent of the time, so whatever is causing the disconnect isn't permanent: sudo rmmod btusb sleep 3 sudo modprobe btusb sleep 5 sudo systemctl restart bluetooth Another symptom is that the connection will drop out briefly (one or two seconds) then come back. The occurrence is, also, widely intermittent. The same device talking to a Mac Mini isn't exhibiting the problem. I switch the mouse from one to the other when using InkScape on the two systems. Haven't moved the access point yet. Oh, another clue: when I try to run Settings/Bluetooth, the tool hangs up. Proper operation is restored with the workaround. I'm no expert, but I'm thinking based on the sequence of faults that something in the driver is getting lost. Any suggestions for tracking this down are welcome. -- Ubuntu-devel-discuss mailing list Ubuntu-devel-discuss@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-devel-discuss

What further information does the developers need? Here is a data point on this issue: I paired this mouse with a Macintosh Mini, and I don't get any strange disconnects. So that means it is either my Bluetooth hardware or Ubuntu's implementation. Given that I can get functionality back by running a script that reloads the Bluetooth driver and restarts the service, that fact points to a software issue. The script? sudo rmmod btusb sleep 3 sudo modprobe btusb sleep 5 sudo systemctl restart bluetooth So far, this has worked every time. 20.04 LTS, fully updated. -- Ubuntu-devel-discuss mailing list Ubuntu-devel-discuss@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-devel-discuss

Re: Bluetooth questions
Found a workaround that seems to work. I run these command: sudo rmmod btusb sleep 3 sudo modprobe btusb sleep 5 sudo systemctl restart bluetooth No powercycle, no system restart necessary so far. Settings/Bluetooth says either "no Bluetooth" or "airplane mode" when things break. I'll check syslog again when my problem happens. Are there any other logs I need to watch? I checked syslog, and didn't find anything enlightening. I followed instructions I found for Ubuntu 16, including reinstalling the software, and no change. My reason for buying this mouse is my various logitech mice, after a long time of use, start double-clicking by themselves and misbehave when doing click-and-drag operations. The new mouse allegedly has optical switches, which should not have this auto-double-click going forward. (Yes, I still keep the original flaky mouse handy for when the new one stops working. So far I've been able to avoid nasty power-downs or hardware resets.) -- Ubuntu-devel-discuss mailing list Ubuntu-devel-discuss@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-devel-discuss
