I agree.
I am not a techie, and I use Ubuntu Tweak, and regularly clear away all the
old ones, and cache etc., which gives me more space and also keep more
things uncluttered.
The forum can give more inputs to you, than me.

nevertheless - ideal situation is to use the 10.04 / jaunty, and boot as
LIVE CD. if that works then the problem's area will be limited, which the

I too had faced the same problem - the very first day I installed 10.04.
But, I went to the -> system -> Power Management Preferences :
- On AC Power -> set display brightness : to the required level ( i did
0%)
and
- On Battery Power -> checked OK to the Reduce backlight Preference

Try this : Power Management Option
On AC Power :
- slide the "set display brightness to : whatever % you want"
On Battery Power :
- make the "Reduce Backlight Brightness" option ON.
- Make both these options default - by PRESSING - "MAKE DEFAULT" button.
