Just me chiming in with a confirmation that the insitu upgrade to 4.0.0
from 3.5.0 worked perfectly yet again .
With the known exception that static IP is not set (as described during
upgrade ), funny enough it actually remebers most of the settings except
DNS so i assume it's a design decision to cover some case where you dont
want to loose network conection.

Ok did the uppgrade with config file on USB stick went well , some
settings did not carry over like static-ip and some more ,but the harder
to remember tweaks and squeezelite settings did .
So this was easy enough to do .

I have a bunch of SD cards to try with i always keep a working one from
previus version , its very easy to roll back that way.

SO now I have two working 3.5.0 piCores (before one piCore 3.1 and one
max2play) great job team :)

One of the is the audio version too , just to try it .

Anyone care to explain more on how to use the -U option , if needed and
whatnot ?

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] LMS start\stop\restart

2018-01-13 Thread Mnyb

If you wait a while Radio wont show up eventually ? You should be
running the latest 7.9.1 beta it has some improvements regarding this
behaviour.

Run ifconfig or similar to see if the rpi actually has got ip dns etc .

You only have one network interface running on the pi ?

Workaround.

Make a static network setup with ip dns and gateway etc so that DHCP is
not a factor.
( make sure that the DHCP pool does not include this ip ).

Not really , and the levels of jitter claimed in most data for almost
anything is still 1000' of timesbelow whats considered audible ..
So even if source jitter do affect even reclocked in a very minute ways
, you can measure I think , think about it as a fillter , but still it
does not get audible even if can show the effect .

Thats totally eliminated by for example asynchronus USB or ethernet
direct to the streamer (also async comunication ) .

Then you have electrical noise etc thats alos claimed to do "harm" .

I'm no longer a believer in this myself so i'm in agrrement :) really (
i has been a devout believer in all kind of audiphool nonsense ) .

But its really down to cluthing at straws arguments to justife an imaged
difference "heard" trough uncontrolled non blind testing aka your are
not even wrong as no real information cuts above the noise :)

Correct they will deliver the exact same bit stream :) they will also
sound the same unless one of the sources is seriusly broken or the DAC
is very shoddily built . Now devout audiophiles starts to talk about

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] rpi3+pcp3.22+LMS causes transporter & SBradio to jump in and out of LMS

2017-11-02 Thread Mnyb

Have you checked your power on resume settings for each player ?

And also I *think* there is a setting in the audio settings for the
digital out should behave if the playback is stopped , just to adopt to
varius AV recievers and DAC's that auto switch depending on the state on
the spdiff output .

Sorry , that I have no Touch or SB3 connected anymore they exposed this
setting and i think the transporter does to, I forgot the name of this
setting :/
This could affect "clicking" and input switch of in associated equipment

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] rpi3+pcp3.22+LMS causes transporter & SBradio to jump in and out of LMS

2017-11-02 Thread Mnyb

No keep them registred , but make sure it's the same account for all
players .

And also put in your mysqueezebox login in the LMS settings for that so
that your LMS can see your mysb.com account . That way switching players
back and forth goes smoothly (you can see from within LMS if a player is
at mysb.com ) and the app and radio menu in LMS will work properly.
And actually if you have your LMS account set in LMS you will probably
find your picore player registred at mysb.com too .

I really have no clue but

The "picore player" is on the same PI as LMS and they don't loose
conection ?, could that tell us anything ? regarding networking .

Yes radio's wifi icon turns red when conection is lost .

Further youre sure that the players are connected by ethernet ? you
don't just have to put in the cables you must also redo the network
setup in each player .

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] BitPerfect

2017-11-01 Thread Mnyb

You can dig out some old treads about this too . But here it goes...

Back when I thought this was very important I’ve used some test to
indirectly verify that the transfer really was bitperfect .

There are signals that’s usually are packed/disguised in regular pcm
namely hdcd & DTS or ac3 ( Dolby digital ) that’s how for example a DVD
player sends ac3 over spdiff or toslink to a ht-reciver .
The thing is this must be bitperfect or the encoding gets lost and you
get gibberish.

So a great test is to get some ac3 encoded wav file’s, dial in stuff to
what you think are zero gain, 100% bitperfect and then conect the
digital out to a home theatre processor or reciever and listen you get
5.1 sound or noise .

On one of the side topics here , i’m More or less convinced that a good
well dithered digital volume control is actually performs better than
any analog implementation a good digital systems noise if of the same
character as good old analog noise , s/n ratio is the same if achieved
by analog or digital means ( forget al those staircase graphs in
sterephile that’s not it’s actually working ). It’s also an issue of
implementation of the rest of the system .
The whole gain structure must be reasonable so that full scale signal is
just as loud as you ever want to listen . Then quieter volume are well
quieter :) the volume is so low that any possible degradation is
inaudible anyway .

And then you have your 24 bit dithered digila system with an s/n ratio
of say 144dB and then you play some old 70’s rock album 70dB s/n ratio
that’s less than 13 bits there are ofcourse better records , but
what I mean that in practice the system noise produced by a digital
volume adjustment is far below the noise in your actual recordings you
listen to , even if you bougth 24 bit or DSD album , what most of the
data actually is are random noise from the recording .

It’s possible the the file permissions got mangled when moving the HD
and plug it it to another computer.
I would compare file permissions on those files and directories not seen
by LMS .

Btw they arenwithin the folders you setup LMS to scan ?

And would it not work better to use the SMB share feature and write
files to the drive while mounted to the pi3 ?

Just give at try , digital ouputs should be transparent .

And the SoX transcoding library oms uses is known to be good , it should
kot assert any particular signature . Unless you want to (its endlessly
tweakable ) .

Of topic if want to experiment with your DAG and rpi3 with a digital
output board can be fun.
You can then set squeezelite to output the maximum rate that the dac can
handle for any file and say set the volume -3dB while doing it if you
for example suspects that your dac does not handle intersample overs
properly or use esoteric filters like apodising.
Agread that could lead to endless tweaking for nothing . But a Pi can do
that if your inclined to try such things.

SB3 supports 24/48 kHz .

But if you sync the SB3 in another place to your rpi3 it to will ouåuit
24748 anyway in those cases .

In most cases music is 16/44.1 anyway as most records are of this
quality

My personal view better than redbook is debatable i was a stern believer
in hirez for a decade . but the actual case is that CD is good enough
for human hearing .
Note that the actual master used for hirez release could be very
different so it apples an oranges no guarantee which actually better.
The real test downsample a so called hirez file yourself and try hear
the diffrence :)

Yes that's the cap problem there are treads with pictures .
It has digital outs these will be unaffected by this problem that only
affects the analog out. Is there a zone where something should hook up
to a HT reciever or DAC .

If you retire it sell it as spare parts on this forum , someone would
probably pick it up and repair it.

Good to hear i run annintel nuc nowadays as server ( time to edit My sig
)

For the other Q i havent any USB DAC's to try with it's a big maybe from
me and i do buy try to buy downloads <24/96 so i have very few 24/192 or
"better" ( as I find them pointless) that would be transcoded by one of
My rpi3 as ive use that for My main meridian rig and ive set up
squeezelite to do 24/96 (-3db) for everything there as it handles 24/96
max .

These are kind of fringe cases :) serving 24/192kHz synced to dozens of
players .

Try to not fiddle with LMS so that it sends PCM/WAV to all players
instead of FLAC , if you just don't meddle with the file types settings
your good .
It's a popular myth that WAv sounds better but you basically gets double
the bandwith requirements and it's usually not a problem excepts you
wants to sync 9 players and FLAC uses much less bandwith and player
buffers will last longer all works in your favour .

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Transcoding requirements on a Pi?

2017-06-12 Thread Mnyb

Could be a potential problem i LMS also runs on the PI . Is LMS running
elsewhere it handles the transcoding on that system ( and thats systems
limitiations apply ) .

PI can transcode just fine but if several separate needs arise to older
players etc or if you use some obscure formats , ie in cases where you
don't sync it migth not have the capacity .

For it's own needs it's fast enough .

But the general case is still that player report thier capabilty to the
server and servers has to come up with a streams that fits all in the
sync group .

So if the SB3 is in the sync group . the server has to feed all an 24/48
stream . But the transcoding load is on the LMS server machine

And yes wifi can be a limiting factor especially when it's not good as
in rpi3 they are known for problems with thier internal wifi .

A good safe starting point is when the LMS server runs on robust fast
enough system wired to your network .
If a problem arise with one player you can probably find a workaround.

In picoreplayer you can install the complete LMS with all bells and
whistles .
It's not preinstalled in the image but some click and point options in
the PCP web gui and LMS installs.

Running a VM is also neat ( I do that ) just pick a more stable distro
and run in virtualbox or something .

That's look a default ssid in the router delivered by the telecom

They also come with a default password , you are supposed to change both

Tags are essentiall for a working LMS experience :/

Otherwise views like artist, album artist, album ,genre , year, song ,
track no, composer etc becomes useless.
and no album cover pictures .
And the search functionality becomes crippled ?

The other menus in LMS are generated from the file tags .

There is a " guess tag " functionality in LMS that tries to figure this
by file and folder names only , it can be tweaked to some extent if your
folder structure is very consistent, but it can not replace tags .

I think there is a lot of useful info in the wiki and a whole subforum
devoted to ripping and tagging .

You have a dual band router ? can be neat to have diffrent ssid on the

You should broadcast the SSID , hiding it is pointless it creates no

Did you expand the file system before adding stuff ?

reboot as soon as it says, it fast don't save up a whole brunch of
settings and then reboot .
Then you don't know what broke it ?

I'm in the habit of backning up the whole SD card before a sensitive
change , like network parameters ? ( it's no fun locking yourself out
).

Any recollection of what you did change ? Especially when it broke ?

The web-UI should come up in any browser , you hardly need ssh login to
configure Picore , the setup is done true the web-UI in your browser
firefox works for me ? if the web-UI does not conect i'd gues something
is not rigth .

So conecting a monitor to see how it's boots or try to burn a fresh
image on the SD card ? (or try another SD card .

btw i have no problem ssh to my picore player , so it should just work

Would fair better with a powered external drive they are usually 3,5"

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: Squeezelite - a small headless squeezeplay emulator for linux (alsa only)

2017-01-26 Thread Mnyb

Hello some n00b questions from me .

Preamble , been using squeezelite for years on my PC as a desktop player
.
Now i got two Raspi3 one with A IQaudioDAC+ and one with a
HifiBerryDigi+or pro or whatever :D (then one with transformer isolated
spdiff )

Now i realise first hand the greatness of the combined architechture of
for example PiCore SqueezeLite and LMS (I also trying Max2Play and plan
to try DietPi too ) yess .

NOW MY EXPERIMENTS ,

*Resamplig for my MeridianG68J preprocessor* , it's a bit old and
certainly does not have the latest and greatest internal up-sampler.
And certainly not any protection against intersample overshots .

Plan some attenuation to provide headroom and let SoX do the math to the
Meridians maximum rate of 96kHz . So that it never needs to use it's own
resampler.

Code:

-r 96000 -R vMX::3.5:

Code:

-r 96000 -R vLX::3.25:

Attenuation varies that was just some examples . This works no problem
here but.

*Questions:* what happens when I play a 24/96 track ? Does it just
attenuate or do nothing ?

Desired outcome, it should do nothing when getting a 24/96 track . The E
parameter does not seem to be the rigth tool . Or is squeezelite smart
enough to realize there is nothing to do here ?
Having some benign attenuation done to everything is not a real problem
, but I prefer a solution where 24/96 are just send to the Meridian as
they are .

*The IQaudio DAC for my headphone amp* and an extra set of active
speakers . the TI chip is documented for not having intersample
headroom

Code:

-R vMX::3.5: -V Digital

Code:

-R vM::3.5: -V Digital

Code:

-R vLX::3.5: -V Digital

Code:

-R vL::3.5: -V Digital

..
Etc again examples .

*I explain the volume control *. I also use this player for a pair of
active speakers . When using the headphone amp volume is fixed at 100%
otherwise attenuation would not make much sense .
It's when i use the speakers i use the volume .

-V Digital Here i ponder if should use the X option ? asynchronous
filter or not ? what makes sense for the IQ audio TI DAC or in general ?
is there a "best practice"

Volume control whats best practice here Squeezelite itself or the via
"-V Digital" Which then should use the TI DAC's own volume .

Btw is there a donation button for Squeezlite ?

Ah cool I've found the filter settings for my DAC they are in the PiCore
player web-UI already :) sorry for the noise .

The same chip as the HiffiBerry so you get :

http://archimago.blogspot.se/2016/10/measurements-hifiberry-dac-pro-pcm5122.html

Next thing to experiment with resampling in squeezelite with some
attenuation (-3,-6dB) as the TI DAC does not take care of intersample
overs in any way in it's oversampler

Nice Video thanks , where did you find all this information well
documented .
That was a pointer in the rigth direction ... Thankyou again.
I've now found a pdf manual at the IQaudio site that explains some of
this with pictures . Similar to your Video

PiCore Player says this

>
> Set ALSA control for volume adjustment (-V)
>
> Use ALSA control for volume adjustment otherwise use software volume
> adjustment.
>
> Select and use the appropiate name of the possible controls from the

> Clock Missing Period Deemphasis Digital Max Overclock DAC Max Overclock
> DSP Max Overclock PLL Volume Ramp Down Emergency Rate Volume Ramp Down
> Emergency Step Volume Ramp Down Rate Volume Ramp Down Step Volume Ramp
> Up Rate Volume Ramp Up Step

I see that "Digital" is a reported control of this card . Is this
possible to list in more human readable form :) a linux command some
documentation ??

This corresponds to what alsmixer shows me ,I have two kinds of analogue
volume a normal and some "boost" and a Digital volume and some
possibilities to set step size in volume .
I can change filters "DSP" .

I see the same thing regarding Volume .

But as i understands it "Analogue" toggles -6,0 dB on and off "Analogue
Boost" toggles +0.80 dB Digital is a real volume control . I can see
that in the alsamixer ?

IQaudio claim that the card has hardware volume control .

Can I assume that choosing "Digital" means that i use the volume of the
IQ audio DAC ?

*Also in IQaudios pdf* i can that they explain analogue better it's
simply a switch between 1.0 vrms and 2.0 vmrms output . Same in *Texas
instruments pdf of the DAC* chip
They claim that both analogue and analogue boost shall be on and that
digital is the master volume ?
The "boost" is not on per default inPicore ? I'll trust their judgement
here .

Reagarding PiCore players advanced squeezelite/alsa options

So the Alsa volume field or various with -V gives me hardware volume .
Can i use the various settings field to gain access to other settings
like the DSP filters ? the DAC has 4 of them ?

Hi and thanks for the product . It works splendidly I think .

Just a functional question I've got the IQaudio DAC and picore 3.10

How does volume control work ? Is it Squeezelite , Alsa , the IQaudio
hardware ?

Picore closed these Squeezelite parameters for me.

Code:

/usr/local/bin/squeezelite -n "Loggia" -o hw:CARD=IQaudIODAC -a 80:4::1:

Do I have options ?

[SlimDevices: Unix] Now playing plalists dissapears on machine reboot

2017-01-04 Thread Mnyb

Hi some fumbling around have got me a new server :)

I have ticked the setting to maintian client playlists after restart .
This works fine if I stop and start LMS only , all my players keeps
their playlists everything is fine and dandy .

The client playlist gets created and exists in the prefs folder .

Problem .

If I restart the machine , then the now playing screen is empty on all
players.

IF I THEN RESTART LMS THEY ARE BACK AGAIN.

And the log is filled with cant find bla bla.

This points me to the old chestnut, LMS is starting up before the NAS
storage is fully mounted ??

As LMS can re-establish the playlist just fine after a restart .
And the client playlists are all there as before .

But it does not drop the whole library ? LMS is happy enough to not
rescan the library or any other antic , you’d expect if the drive is
missing ?

Is there some parameter I can set to delay the startup of LMS ?

I've fumbled with this on my old server regarding mip vs lms ? Is there
a nice and clean way to adjust this on Debian (it pobably is )

Yes I'm familar with debian/ubunto i use a Linux mint desktop and
openmediavault NAS as a VM so i already have two debian based systems .

However my current LMS server is RHEL based .

Perl creep ? :D just want to aviod the "does not work at all" that

versions .

So is for example Debian 7 based systems OK with the LMS perl version ?
same for corresponding RHEL based system ?

So if you gentlemen suggests distros , any knowledge about the perl

[SlimDevices: Unix] Choice of basic LInux OS for LMS

2016-12-29 Thread Mnyb

Choice of basic LInux OS for LMS ?

Any preference ?

I want to avoid:

Unsuported perl versions.

Unsolved dependencies that needs me to install exotic stuff thats not in
any repo add symlinks compile stuff etc hunt down cpan and extra perl
thingys...
Bad support for popular plugins.
SSL problems , i had to solve that for my current OS .

Good to have :

Good media codec support .
Firewall in Linux that you actually understands how to configure .
Excellent package system .
Fast, reasonably lean on resources not bloated ,but not as bare bones
that nothing works .
Good forums and genral support.
Possibly a ligthweigth desktop unless i chose to have it headless as
usual.

If headless without GUI and only a web-UI for admin make it very capable
eb-UI that actually works and lets you fix stuff (the firewall tool in
my current distro does not really work )

Undecided if i want it to have a desktop or not . My current headless
Linux box is fast and lean and works nice with just 1gb of ram.
..But to adjust every mundane thing there is a web-UI or SSH
thats it (it's an obscure os, ClearOS )

But could be cool to learn how use remote desktops etc in linux. But a
simple linux server with a good web admin tool is also ok.

The thing will run in a VM on a NUC5i5RYH with ESXi its i5 with 32GB of
ram (intention is to learn something about running VM's with VM vare
ESXi)
The VM will be on an internal fast M2 256GB SSD the machine has another
2,5" 1TB SSD.
ON the same Host I will have a NAS running as a VM.

I assume you guys and gals now more than me and appreciate good
suggestions .

Animated gif ? Voted .

Was it a part of some art from an album ?

I try to avoid the video and image scan features , as this functionality
was for the DLNA/upnp function originally for the Logitech revue? Google
to box .

Image scan could be used for a slide show app for Touch and Radio .

LMS still scans album art if images and videos are unticked for that
folder .

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] "Media scan terminated unexpectedly"

2016-12-07 Thread Mnyb

There are settings in LMS to get more verbose log outputs , even to the
level of it logging every fole it scans .
There is a tab for log settings .

Bit you are rigth it should spit out the failing file or image with the
default log settings .

And yes it should not crash just log the file and continue. But thats an
old problem that we always had .
Bet there are bugs in buggzilla already . Please tell if you log or find
a suitable bug and i'll vote with you .

All needed settings are in the web-UI .

The win settings app only adds a few things like "run as a service"
that's irrelevant in Linux as it always runs a "service" daemon with its
own user ( you figure when file permissions gets you ) and always
autostart so you don't need tray to do that.
Tray icon in windows also contains a web browser link to loclahost aka
127.0.0.1 but just make our own bookmark.

And the win control panel also have "clear cache" but you can just go to
the cache folder and delete stuff yourself .

I probably missed a few things

Our friend Archimago tried just that in his blog a while ago, he loaded
some computer close to 100% while putting out audio to a DAC or the
motherboards own audio chip . The DAC performed to spec until the system
become overwhelmed and you get buffering and breakups , no sliding scale
of subtle sound degradation depending on load . It worked until it
didn't.

All this for sugesting that you should only focus your effort in
diffrences that actually exist ? wheter we can "hear things" is not
actually always relevent.
The human phsycke is actually very sugestible you can hear all sorts of
things all the time with sigthed testing .

If the systems electrical and acoustivcal output does not change , move
on to the next thing . Some relitively simple measurments can test that
, do a degrre thats >1000 times more sensitive than human hearing .

Btw i once was a hardcore belive everything audiophile for several
decades including fancy power cables audioqest expensive speaker cables
silly feets for the equipment et al. So i do know what this is , 10
years ago i would also have "heard" all the diffrences .
One day i discovered that the emperor was truly naked and not very
beutifull at all ;) ( i would prefer the queen) He looked very similar
to a bearded obese middle aged audiophile to me .

Note that is till have an aftermarket powersupply that once bougth for
my SB3 (see signature of my shoddy equipment ) that probably did
absolutely nothing...

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] PiCorePlayer 3.02 tweaks

2016-10-18 Thread Mnyb

In shorter words .

Perceptual bias is so strong that you really can't say anything by just
sighted listening test not you or me .

So a sighted test carries no information about if the sound actually
changed . Only that you thought it did which is not the same thing .

So measure and do an ABX test with the tweaks that measured differently
, you weed out 99% of the duds your tweaking effort will end quickly or
you find what really matters quickly .

Then the other thing .

If I do the the same sighted unverified test , if I then "hear"
something and compare to you ?
It's then my imagined apples to you imagined oranges ? What can be
decided from that it's pointless ?

For comedy in many tweaked treads people seems to agree , mostly because
OP said what result should be :D

To you credit you have not yourself attributed sonic characteristics to
most of your tweaks . Kudos .

These characteristics when people claims them are usually very analog
and and not something simple jitter and emi disturbances could do , you
need serious DSP to for example change the soundstage or alter the
treble response... frankly the bits can no longer be the same ;)
difrences must creep up to -60-70 dB to be possible hea in other words
above bit 13 thereabout .

My sugestions about a rational testing method ? Was that negativity ?

You can sugest a completely of the chart thing to test , who knows
really .

But it is the choice of testing methods that matters most .

There is also this , if you make an extraordinary claim you better have
the corresponding extraordinary evidence.
If would just accept that iumping of building would kill me without a
peer reviewed paper :)

But for example differences between digital sources are non existing in
controlled tests ? At the moment .
( these digital sources of course playing the same flac file or CD )

In my own system i can change say that my Meridian DVD-A player my
Pioneer bluray or my saueezebox SB3 or my Squezeebox Touch probably
performs identical with 16/44.1 the A/B testing i did was not at the
highest standard ABX with severL people involved . But this was
annexpected result .

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] PiCorePlayer 3.02 tweaks

2016-10-14 Thread Mnyb

Do some measurements see for example archimagos excellent blog I would
also recommend audidiffmaker to filter forth differences.

The key here is to filter out the first round of duds . If the
electrical output is unchanged the sound waves hitting your ear will be
exactly the same .

The remaining tweaks that did something did they improve the performance
measurable ? Or did you tweak it until it broke, I think this is very
common ,(see all geniuses making thier own transcoding settings for SoX
) . Different is very often interpreted as better . Closest to the
original source is always best , you can never know what you listen to
tomorrow.

Round 3 do ABX listening test on the one with positive results , which
where audible .
This is key , these differences is so small that the bias from "sighted"
tests is invalid i.e. By sighted I mean knowing anything about what A vs
B is . The idea here is can you tell a difference .

No no one buys the argument that "differences are so obvious to me that
ABX is not needed" that's is actually a sure sign that you are biased !
Modern digital sources do not produce huge differences in to any modern
DAC unless something is broken .

Now a subjective evaluation can take place what the remaining audible
tweaks that also improved the measured performance sounded like .

A random walk in OS and ALSA settings would be very futile and a waste
of everyone's time including your own time :)

Historically, there has been no really successful attempts to prove
that any digital source conected to a decent DAC makes a real
difference. If the input signal is bitperfect and without really gross
jitter (several 1000 times more than sources usually have ) and equally
gross electrical disturbances conected trough the wire every source is
the same .

However with the rise of computer audio there is potential for things
going wrong , but then its obviously wrong .
The OS mixer and resampler in windows should probably be avoided and
some other things to . But thats why we have squeezeboxes.

So what can really be done except have sane settings in the audio system
?

And I suppose PIcore players is equally turn key in the respect that you
get bit perfect output in respect to the input file if you want and
don't need to worry to much

Hmm years ago i was informed that the network test plugin is not as
reliable anymore .

You can test with files with known bitrates for example a 16/44 flac is
abroximately 750k etc.

Yes , many may like the tube euphonics , but the THD and noise makes (
rather masks ) the finer points of da conversion moot , hence why it's a
bit anachronistic , like some steampunk inspired device .
It's a fun dyi thing :) enjoy , it's less fun when it's really expensive
high end brands usually claiming superiotory of tubes for no rational
reason and charges some serious money for it( they usually claims that
they are "better" how so in a world when electronics easily can be made
transparent to the human listener ? Better than artist delivered on disc
?)

+1 check in a debian or Ubuntu other Linux forum/tutorial for advice .

Basic issue is that the automounted USB drive gets mounted for the
logged in user .

LMS is its own user and don’t have access .

By putting the USB drive in fstab just like any other HD gives you
control over mount options , I cant give solid advice whats best for
NTFS drives, but one mount option i would use is -nofail (in case the
drive is not connected )
There are tools for getting the UUID of a drive .
And in FSTAB you can specify a mount point in the file system where the
drive will be and it will always be in the same place/path all the time
.

I have an NTFS partition mounted , but probably not by "best practice"
:) in any way so i rather not share that fstab entry (similar can be
googled anywhere ) .

This is not a LMS problem ,just a function of how many linux systems
like debian mount USB drives

A very likely culprit can be volume or use of replaygain . The volume
can have exactly one value if you want bitperfect output 0dB unity
gain.

0dB is not this 85% in some cases with alsa or pulse

Does WOL work in general with this player ? The original squeezeboxes
has the feature to send WOL packets to the server in varius scenarios
not only before an alarm . Pressing "on" on a boom sends WOL touching
the screen on Touch does it etc "on" on the IR remote of sb3 ...

But it may be hard to test on a player without a GUI . If you use for
example iPeng on you iPad it's iPeng that sends the WOL not the player
.

Next issue Boom and Radio has a local memory of the alarm setting that
lasts 24 hours without contact with the server ( radio might remember
longer ) , these players can play a backup sound if there is no server
connection , so you get at least one alarm out .
This also helps boom to send its WOL command , it's knows that there is
a scheduled alarm .

Does pi core player know if there is an alarm or is it only the server
that knows this ?

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Syncing 2 Pi's ?

If the PI's behave identical , you might have to counter act the
relative time delays in the AVR software vs B .

There are some parameters in sync settings you use to trim with , but no
one can guarantee what result would be ?

If you have some PI layers move them over to your friend and tryout if
good enough sync can be done .
