We have .conf files to define the routes, but all the TNs are stored in a 
database in which Kannel read from.

 

We where working with Stipe initially to get the cluster setup, but he is 
appearing a little elusive at the moment.  So we figure to reach out to the 
community.

Hi

In general, if your device support GSM AT commands it will usually work
with kannel. Check with the manufacturer of your dongle.

There are some issues with multi-modem/multi-sim devices where you need to
specify to which port/sim/modem you are sending the sms to. There was a
code modification on the mailing list some time ago for that.

Also some nokia phones were known by not supporting CNMI command. This
command allows modem/phone to forward MO to kannel port. They can anyway
work with kannel by setting it us to periodically check for MO on the phone.

Don't forget that even though it may support GSM AT commands, if there is
no driver for linux, it will never be seen by kannel.

info in appropriate forums and check whether there is a driver for your

Hi

Kannel uses mainly AT GSM commands; There was some works in the CDMA
commands but don't have much information.

As kannel is open source, you can develop just the interface with your
Huawei dongle and leave the rest as is. You can start checking smsc-at code
and use it as a template/base for developing the interface for your modem.

Few of these parameters can be configured on kannel. Please read userguide
in detail.

Acision is perhaps the best SMSC to work with.

Hello all,

This is my first email sending to your group.

What I would like to ask is the below:

- Does anyone knows any company that provide support (24X7) for Kannel
gateway? The company where I work is looking for a company or team where
they can provide support for Kannel.

- Can someone help me with two general issues regarding Kannel:

 a) When you stop Kannel all DLR messages are being lost, What I have
found on user guide (Section: External delivery report (DLR) storage) is
that you can store all DLR information by setting dlr-storage = to a
MySQL, Postgres table or set it as default to internal.
My question is since when you set it as internal, DLR information after
Kannel will start are not being sent (at least this is waht I know) If you
store them to a table (MySQL or Postgres)  how these messages are being
sent? Do we need to perform any action or they sent by default after the
restart?

Hi

About support 24x7, don't know.

Dlrs are lost if you do not store them in a db.

Kannel will requeue stored messages after restarting with what it had
queued. No need to do anything. In order to have kannel store the
messages you need to define a store location. Check manual for
details. Note is different from dlr-storage.

You need to add allow / deny entries in your config or setup a routing
group. check manuals

The max troughput of each link is controlled by your provider. Kannel
can't do anything about it. traffic load balancing can do the job

essentialy your are asking how many SMSC connections a bearerbox can handle 
simultaniusly, right?


There is no structural limit within bearebix itself. The limit is based on the 
OS layer, more specificaly the number of maximum file descriptors (FDs) that are 
allowed to be open for a single process. Usually this should be 1024.


Take into account that each TCP connection uses a FD for it's socket 
communication. So if you have SMPP v3.3 (bind_receiver, bind_transmitter) style 
sessions that you use 2 TCP connections for one logical session per SMPP SMSC. 
Of course a v3.4 (bind_transceiver) is 1 TCP connection.


Now, the FD limit can be increased on the OS layer via 'ulimit'.

now, we need more details... mainly debug level logs that show the behaviour you 
claim to be a problem.


In addition if you strongly think this is a bug, please file a bug report to 
http://bugs.kannel.org/. That the general place to file in.


The problem as you state may be thread concurrency, but this can only be the 
case if you massively have IO on bearerbox. A couple of thousand msgs per hour 
doesn't mean any massive traffic. Massive traffic is something like  400 msg/sec.



I have already checked the throughput on both sides and I haven't been able
to use the dlr reports yet, because I have to recompile kannel.


Why is that? Are you using a distro package?

I Have read that kannel supports WAP2 protocol, But when i 
checked in the Kannel source, there is nowhere mention of 
the use of port 9401, which is a WAP2 Port to be litened on 
TCP.

  So long as the PCMCIA device:
   1) Presents itself as a serial device.
   2) Understands the AT commands as specified by:
3GPP TS 27.007

If you mean WAP:

card, then the answer is no.  Kannel is much higher up in the
abstraction layer.
