[ovirt-users] oVirt 4.0.2 RC

2016-08-11 Thread Fernando Fuentes
So I went to do an update to my ovirt system and found that the RC is
coming down to my production box... IE: 4.0.2

I did a repo list and found - centos-ovirt40-candidate

Than found that 4.0.2 its also coming down from the ovirt-4.0 repo...

 ovirt-engine-sdk-python noarch 3.6.8.0-1.el7
   centos-ovirt40-candidate 480 k
 ovirt-release40noarch 4.0.2-2
 ovirt-4.0
 8.3 k
 ovirt-vmconsole noarch 1.0.4-1.el7
   centos-ovirt40-candidate 29 k
 ovirt-vmconsole-proxy noarch 1.0.4-1.el7
 centos-ovirt40-candidate 17 k
 python-ovirt-engine-sdk4x86_64 4.0.0-0.5.a5.el7
   centos-ovirt40-candidate 308 k

Is this safe to upgrade?

Regards,

Re: [ovirt-users] ovirt4.0.1 and new node, migration fails

2016-08-11 Thread Bill James

just fyi, I tried updating to ovirt-engine-4.0.2.6-1.el7.centos.noarch
and still same story, it won't let me select a specific host to deploy a
VM to, and doesn't tell me why not.

However I can migrate the VM from one node to the other one just fine.

Any ideas why?

I provided logs earlier.

It also includes recent logs from all 3 servers.

Also tried updating vdsm to 4.18.10-1 and restarted ovirt-engine.
No change in results.

I can migrate VMs to new node but not initially assign VMs to that node.

I don't know if this is related, the new host that I am having
troubles with is running 4.0.1.1-1,

other other host is running 4.0.0.6-1

I was planning on migrating VMs then upgrade the older host.
Also Cluster is still in 3.6 mode, also waiting for upgrade of older
node.

All storage domains are on older node, its the NFS server.

hmm, just retried migration so I could get vdsm logs from both hosts.
1 VM worked, the other 3 failed.
And I still can't assign VMs to new node.

VM that worked: f4cd4891-977d-44c2-8554-750ce86da7c9

Not sure what's special about it.
It and 45f4f24b-2dfa-401b-8557-314055a4662c are clones from same
template.

Attaching logs from 2 nodes and engine now.

What did I miss?
for migration issues you always need to include vdsm logs from both
source and destination host. Hard to say otherwise. Anything special
about your deployment?

ovirt-engine-4.0.1.1-1.el7.centos.noarch
vdsm-4.18.6-1.el7.centos.x86_64

storage is NFS.

You need to put the storage domain in maintenance mode, and then
you can edit the gluster mount options.

This requires either shutting down all the vms using this storage, or
if you cannot afford any downtime, you can live-migrate the disks to
another storage domain, edit gluster options, and live-migrate the disks
back.

You can still thin-provision VMs in oVirt, there's just not a way to
release space if a VM image shrinks significantly.

Re: [ovirt-users] LVM2 Thinprovisioned

2016-08-11 Thread Fernando Frediani

Really ? That's pretty bad and another downside unfortunately.

The fact that the only option for block storage is LVM (so there is not
suitable Clustered Filesystem to run QCOW2 files) and now that LVM2
Thinprovisioned is not supported can be a real issue where
Thinprovisioned LUNs are not available in the Storage Controller.

Have these topics ever came up in the feature/product management
meetings are any of them something being considered ?
The same way CPU and Memory overprovision are key features in order to
justify the overall solution cost Storage Thinprovision equally
necessary otherwise the Storage stuff end up costing more than half of
whole platform solution.

Thanks for the answer anyway. Hopefully at least LVM2 Thinprovisioning
comes up anytime soon.

socat:

This gives me all information about VM from ovirtagent. But as soon as
i close reading socket, ovirt agent loops in itself and uses whole

Ok, I read the bug. for the missing pki. In fact in conf file I see
reference to missing

# Key file for SSL connections
ssl_key_file = /etc/pki/ovirt-engine/keys/imageio-proxy.key.nopass

# Certificate file for SSL connections
ssl_cert_file = /etc/pki/ovirt-engine/certs/imageio-proxy.cer

In the mean time I see that if I change the default in
 /etc/ovirt-imageio-proxy/ovirt-imageio-proxy.conf
from

# Wrap incoming connections with SSL
use_ssl = true

to

# Wrap incoming connections with SSL
use_ssl = false

The service starts and it seems it listens to tcp port 54323.
Could it be a workaround (wit the limitations of not secure trasnport) or
is it anyway designed to only work through SSL?

There will need to be special configurations to do, in order to run

The client uploads directly to ovirt-imageio-proxy, not through the
engine. this proxy writes to the host.

Probably I have to run engine-setup two times: the first installs the
package and the second configures it.
But, at the second run, I do get a new answer

then

  --== CONFIGURATION PREVIEW ==--

Hello Douglas,

I was able to get this version
(ovirt-node-iso-3.6-0.999.201608101021.el7.centos

to work, I have added the link for the one I used for other folks to use.

Thank you for responding and I have dled that one as well to try it
because the one I have works on my Dell SC1435s but not on my HP DL385 G5

Hello,
so I upgraded from 4.0 to 4.0.2 RC4 both engine and host.
I successfully verified the cluster upgrade workflow; see here the dialogue:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwoPbcrMv8mvSVFFVzE5RTh5ZFU/view?usp=sharing

Then the virtual machines pane appears like this:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwoPbcrMv8mvTXFnTDFVSllPaVk/view?usp=sharing

Tried to start a previously powered off VM and it appears running without
mark.
Tried to shutdown and then powered on a VM with the configuration mark (c6
VM) and after correct start it doesn't have it

The only doubt is related to hosted engine VM... it doesn't show any mark
... does this mean that actually I don't need to shutdown and power on the
engine VM itself or is it an error that no configuration message icon is
shown aside of engine VM?

Hello,
I updated both engine and host to 4.0.2 RC4 and during the engine-setup
phase I indeed see this:

...

  PACKAGE: [install] ovirt-imageio-common-0.3.0-1.el7.noarch
  PACKAGE: [install]
ovirt-imageio-proxy-0.3.0-0.201606191345.git9f3d6d4.el7.centos.noarch
  PACKAGE: [install]
ovirt-imageio-proxy-setup-0.3.0-0.201606191345.git9f3d6d4.el7.centos.noarch

and the configuration preview appeared as

  --== CONFIGURATION PREVIEW ==--

Default SAN wipe after delete : False
  Firewall manager: firewalld
  Update Firewall : True
  Host FQDN : ractorshe.mydomain
  Upgrade packages: True
Engine database secured connection : False
  Engine database host: localhost
Engine database user name : engine
  Engine database name: engine
  Engine database port: 5432
Engine database host name validation: False
DWH database secured connection : False
  DWH database host : localhost
DWH database user name : ovirt_engine_history
  DWH database name : ovirt_engine_history
  DWH database port : 5432
DWH database host name validation : False

  PKI organization: mydomain
  DWH installation: True
  Backup DWH database : True
  Engine Host FQDN: ractorshe.mydomain
  Configure VMConsole Proxy : True
  Configure WebSocket Proxy : True

Should I have seen anything related to image proxy in engine-setup
configuration preview above?

The version installed is:
ovirt-imageio-proxy-0.3.0-0.201606191345.git9f3d6d4.el7.centos.noarch

I don't get anymore the exception in the GUI but again the upload goes into
paused mode as soon as it starts

I see that part of the new package there is also a service

[root@ractorshe log]# systemctl status ovirt-imageio-proxy.service
● ovirt-imageio-proxy.service - oVirt ImageIO Proxy
   Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/ovirt-imageio-proxy.service;
disabled; vendor preset: disabled)
   Active: inactive (dead)
[root@ractorshe log]#

Do I have to enable and start it?
What TCP ports does the upload use? Does the client communicate with the
engine or directly with the host?

Thanks,
Gianluca

But also, i've compiled ovirt guest agent from sources from github and had

The github version starting from March 15th 2016 (master / ovirt-4.0 /
ovirt-3.6 branches) should actually not cause 100% CPU usage since there’s a
sleep in case of an error, which seems to be happening here.

So you installed and started it how then? Are you sure that it doesn’t
execute the other one?

Sorry, managed to send corrupted message.

I do not think there's problems with virtio console drivers. I've
installed ovirt guest tools iso from http://resources.ovirt.org/pub.
Also I can read data from ovirt agent on hypervisor side by using
socat:
"socat pathtosocketfile -"
This gives me all information about VM from ovirtagent. But as soon as
i close reading socket, ovirt agent loops in itself and uses whole
single core. If i socat again - load drops and I can see information
from agent again. So problem is that you allways need to have socket
open for read or write on hypervisor side. If not - ovirt agent will
consume one cpu thread. And this happens only in Windows VM.

Can you please give me the exact version of the ISO you’re using?
I need to determine if you have the fixed one or if there’s another bug,
the latest version should have this fixed already.

You probably don’t have the virtio drivers for the channel
communication installed

please install the VirtIO Console drivers on that machine and
restart the agent service

[ovirt-users] oVirt Node 3.6

2016-08-11 Thread Michael Cooper

Hey Guys

New to the group, I have got the controller installed and it's
working fine. Now I have burned an ISO of oVirt Node 3.6 this one is the
one I used ovirt-node-ng-installer-ovirt-3.6-2016052403. I am getting an
error when I try to install it on the server it fails during the install
the first time the script it self failed, the second time it couldn't
find the hard drive to install on. I am not sure what's going on I am
very confused now.

Thanks,

Well this one has not the fixed issue

The github version starting from March 15th 2016 (master / ovirt-4.0 /
ovirt-3.6 branches) should actually not cause 100% CPU usage since there’s a
sleep in case of an error, which seems to be happening here.

So you installed and started it how then? Are you sure that it doesn’t execute
the other one?

Can you please give me the exact version of the ISO you’re using?

b. With firewall enabled and SELinux set to enforcing or permissive or

Hi,
You don't need to try it on oVirt when 'virsh -c' doesn't work since oVirt try
to connect via libvirt libraries (same as virsh) before it called virt-v2v.

Did you follow all the steps in the wiki?
Are you able to ssh to the Xen server from the vdsm machine that you try to
run virsh without password? (ssh root@192.168.1.40)

Yes, you need to install 'nc' on the *target* (Xen) machine.

This is because libvirt's ssh transport uses nc:

I would love to do that...But it's not possible as long as the master data

I'm now stuck with second data domain with unknown status, same for

You can use cloud-init to provision an IP address to a machine. Or
integration with OpenStack Neutron would probably allow for that too
(via DHCP I imagine).

Any reason why you don't just use static DHCP leases?

[ovirt-users] Convert OnApp VM to oVirt

2016-08-11 Thread Fernando Frediani

Hi,

Has anyone done a VM conversion from OnApp (therefore running in LVM) to
oVirt/RHEV format being either buried in LVM or in a QCOW2 file.

I've seen some instructions using qemu-img but wanted to find out if
anyone has found any issues in this process. Any adjusts to be done
before booting the VM the first time in the new platform ?

Both hypervisors are KVM.

Re: [ovirt-users] ovirt-Guest-agent CPU usage

2016-08-11 Thread Tadas

[ovirt-users] How to asssign a static IP to VM?

2016-08-11 Thread lifuqiong
Hi all,

I searched google and found there is no way to assign a static IP
to VM until 2012, in
http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2012-May/007559.html;

Is there any solution to assign static IP now?

Thank you

virsh -c xen+ssh://root@192.168.1.40 results in two errors:

error: End of file while reading data: : Input/output error

That is because your libvirt URI is wrong. It has to be 'xen+ssh://...'

Does it work if you try: virsh -c 'xen+ssh://root@192.168.1.40'

You probably don’t have the virtio drivers for the channel communication

please install the VirtIO Console drivers on that machine and restart the

Yes, you cannot remove the master storage domain, so you need to create another
domain and make it the master. Then you will be able to detach the
original storage
domain properly.

Good tests,
We need to figure out why libvirt refuse the connection,
try to debug virsh by running:

$ export LIBVIRT_LOG_OUTPUTS="1:file:/tmp/libvirt_client.log"
$ export LIBVIRT_DEBUG=1
$ virsh -c virsh -c ssh://192.168.1.40

and examing /tmp/libvirt_client.log file

Re: [ovirt-users] ovirt-Guest-agent CPU usage

2016-08-11 Thread Tadas
It seems, that if socket is not opened at hypervisor side, ovirt agent
starts to loop with loads of "VirtIoCHannel::200::root::Written"
messages per second.
If hypervisor opens ovirt socket, then cpu usage drops to normal state.
Is this intentional? This does not happen on Linux guest.

I am trying the suggested solution on this post by Nir Soffer : reconnect the
storage to the older hypervisor and detach it correctly...But it doesn't work :

>From the DC :
1. I set the storage (which is master data domain) to maintenance mode
2. I try to detach it. I get this error message :

"Error while executing action: Cannot remove the master Storage Domain from
the Data Center without another active Storage Domain to take its place.
-Either activate another Storage Domain in the Data Center, or remove the Data
Center.

3. If I go in the storage domain menu, I get only the "destroy option", not
"remove", which is maybe not what I want. I'd like to be able to keep the data
on it.
4. If I try to remove the datacenter as suggested in the error message I get
this error (as the hosted-engine storage is still up) :

"Error while executing action: Cannot remove Data Center which contains
active/locked Storage Domains.
-Please deactivate all domains and wait for tasks to finish before removing the
Data Center."

5. I can't set the hosted engine storage to maintenance

What should I do ?

Hello Richard / Shahar,

I installed and enabled nc on Xen Server host. Now the " .. sh: nc:
command not found: Input/output error" is gone. Communication is
established. However I am still getting two specific errors:

VDSM ovirt_engine command failed: End of file while reading data: :
Input/Output error

&

Failed to retrieve VMs Information from the external server
xen+ssh://root@192.168.1.40

I am receiving the same error when I run virsh -c
xen+ssh://root@192.168.1.40

Screen shot is attached for quick reference.

Is it something to do with firewall / ip tables on xen server or libvirtd
host?

Hi,
You don't need to try it on oVirt when 'virsh -c' doesn't work since oVirt try
to connect via libvirt libraries (same as virsh) before it called virt-v2v.

Hi Alexis

Were you able to resolve your storage LUN issue?
