[ovirt-users] Windows VM always growing

2018-11-14 Thread Thomas Fecke
Hey Guys,

we use, for our Windows VMs, "thin Provision".

The Problem:

the Disk always grow but if I delete Files in Windows the actual Disk size
stays the same.

Any way to get the "real" Windows Size back again? Some VMs got an Actual Size
from about 100 GB - but Windows just got 25 GB

Thanks in advanced
Thomas

[ovirt-users] Re: Storage IO

2018-06-04 Thread Thomas Fecke
Hey Juan,

That would be perfect. Ill searching for weeks now and can´t find the Bottleneck

The Storage is attached to an 10 gig switch
Storage:

1HE 19'' Chassis mit 4 hot-swap Einschüben
600W Platinum PSU
Intel Xeon E5-2620 v4 CPU
16GB DDR4-2400 regECC RAM (2x8)
4x 1TB SATA3 SSD (Samsung Pro)
LSI3108 Raidcontroller
2x Intel 10G-BaseT LAN
1x ded. KVM Port (IPMI2.0)

The Storage is attached to an 10 gig Switch. Just our Hypervisors are connected
aswell to that switch. I don't know the Switch Model, its rented from our
Hoster ( like the Hardware ).

The Data Domain is shared via NFS.

We are working a lot with Templates - so a single Template gets deployed like
20 Times. Dunno if its important. The Guests running Win 10 and Win Server 2016
- Guest tools are installed.

"Iotop" show about 100 MB/Sec

"Io sta"t show Storage Timeouts

dd if=/dev/zero of=/root/testfile bs=1G count=1 oflag=sync
1+0 Datensätze ein
1+0 Datensätze aus
1073741824 Bytes (1,1 GB) kopiert, 10,7527 s, 99,9 MB/s

DD ist way to low. When I reboot the Server its up to 800-900 MB/s. It drops
slowly to under 100 in about 5 Minutes. Like a Cache that is filling up.

RAM and CPU are fine ( maximum 50% system load - average 30% ).

File system is XFS - Raid 4 is used

Hi Thomas, so you are seeing high load on your storage and you are asking
'why'? an answer with the facts you give would be: you are using your storage,
so, you have storage IO.

so, if you want to dive deeper:
-which storage are you using, specs would be nice.
-which host model are you using?
-network specs? card model, etc. switch model, etc.

hows your setup made? iscsi? nfs? gluster?

based on the former, we might get a better idea and after this some tests could
be made if needed to find if there's a bottleneck or if the environment is
working as expected..

regards,

Any Idea why we got so much write Requests? Its getting up to 2000.

I guess the IO is from our Windows VM´s

Keep monitoring you storage backend interface and see what's going on there if
you don't see anything special on the host. It could be the network that leads
to slow IO as well, who knows.
If the initial VM creation is taking long you might want to create a pool from
your template with Pre-Started VMs, and that would at least save you from the
wait when you actually need the VM.

And I really don’t know why. RAM locking good – CPU and Network looking good.

But it take about 15 Minute to create a new Template based VM – normaly it
takes about 30 Seconds.

I checked nload and the Interface traffic – but its not really high.

Can someone explain why its getting so slow and how to troubleshoot?

Re: [ovirt-users] Any Kind of Storage IO Limitation?

2018-03-05 Thread Thomas Fecke
Hey Yaniv,

thanks in advance

ethtool eno2 | grep Speed

always brings up 10.000. So i tought there is maybe a config File in ovirt that
change it or something.

Or will it use the OS information direct?

Im not sure why the VM´s are getting slow. But when I run an Monitor tool to
check the Bandwith it never excet 1000. Maybe he just don’t need more for the
Copy Job

I have no explanation

fact ist – when I deploy the same Template about 10-15 Times they are getting
rly slow.

The RAM and CPU is morgen then 70% Free.

Ill tried to Stress the Storage a bit.

[ovirt-users] VM Portal - ADD Nic

2018-02-16 Thread Thomas Fecke
Hey Guys,

We got about 50 Users and 50 VLANS. Every User has his own Vlan.

With 4.1 they could login in that User Portal. Select an Template or create a
new VM. Add a Disk and connect to there Nic.

I see that is no option to add a Disk anymore with 4.2 -> okay that's fine for
me

So they just can use Templates. But, there is now option to add the VM to a
nic. So I guess the Template nic is being used.

But our Templates don't got a nic because the user has his own networks.

That mean I need to add about XX more Templates with every nic in it?

Oh common :)

No way to add a nic via VM Portal? That really make the VM Portal unusable for
us

We can´t be the only one using Templates like that. Now every VM set up in VM
Portal is in one network, that's not good or do I miss something?

Ovirt 4.2 Bug with Permissons on the Vm Portal?

I've enabled ovirt 4.2 pre-release repo but the problem is still present in
version 4.2.1.3-1.el7.centos

Somewhere i read that will be fixed in 4.2.2, I'm waiting...

I have been trying to get this worked out myself.

Firstly someone with a system permission will be able to see things from the
system level. I have been adding the permission at the cluster level, but I
also just can't seem to figure out the user portal in 4.2. they can either see
it all or nothing, even vms they create.

I have been using the permissions from this post to no avail.
These permissions have worked fine since 3.x days

Hi all,

In 4.1 i was able to assign 1 user to one VM and in the user portal that
same user was only seeing this specific VM. But with 4.2 i have trouble with
permission.

The way i add permission to a specific user is go click on the VM in the
admin portal, then go in permission and add the user(active directory user).
If i log back with this user on the user portal i do not see the VM that was
given the permission.
But if i add the same user in the system permission tab in the admin portal
and give it the UserRole and log back to the user portal, now he can see all
the VM but i only want the user to see is vm not all others ...

there is a difference when the is add from the two different place.. is the
attribute :
when add from the sytem permission it add the (System) in the inherited
permission colum,
when add from the VM permission tab it does not have that..

Any hints would appreciated.

Hey dear Community,

I work a bit with that ovirt shell. That worked pretty fine but I got some
Problems when I try to add Permission:

What I want to do:
Add a Role to an VM

What I did:

Any other cli command works fine for me. What am I doing wrong? Thank you !

[ovirt-users] Ovirt 4.2 Bug with Permissons on the Vm Portal?

2018-01-08 Thread Thomas Fecke
Hello Guys,

i recently upgrade to 4.2

We used the User Portal before. Every User could see his VM´s, every Admin just
could see his VM´s ( User View ).

After the Update:

Admin´s can see every VM in VM Portal

The Users can´t see Vm´s anymore. The Portal is Empty. Role "UserVMManager" is
set.

We tested some Scenarios: If the User create a new Virtual Machine, it is shown
in the VM Portal. When he log out and in again -> VM is gone in his View

Admin View: The VM was created, Permission where set. Everything seems to be
good.

Any Ideas? Thanks Guys
