Re: [vchkpw] [OT] VPS recommendations to offload spam/virus scanning?
Tom Collins wrote: One of my hosting servers has become overwhelmed with processing inbound mail, and it's affecting the web and POP/IMAP hosting too much. I feel that it will be easier to move spam/virus scanning off to another machine than it will be to try splitting my customers across two servers (I do not want to move web and email hosting for a bunch of domains). I'm currently considering a VPS (virtual private server) solution, and it looks like I'll be fine with a server that provides 512MB of RAM and a minimal amount of disk space. Can anyone recommend a hosting company that they've been happy with? My plan is to do a full Shupp Toaster install, but leave out apache and SquirrelMail. I'll use rsync from my main server to sync ~vpopmail/domains (minus Maildir directories) so chkuser will work. I'll sync the appropriate files from /var/qmail/control, and add an smtproutes file built from the rcpthosts and morercpthosts files (it will just point to my server's IP). If, over time, the VPS becomes overloaded, I should be able to pay for a larger resource allocation with my VPS provider, or just duplicate the VPS and start another instance with it's own IP and have equally-weighted MX records point to each. I'd probably even host the VPS copy with a different provider for redundancy. Thoughts? Recommendations? -- Tom Collins - [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] I've heard good things about Slicehost (www.slicehost.com) from friends but have not used them personally. If you're going to split things up, you should look at John Simpson's validrcptto patch instead of chkuser. Only one file needs to be synced across. http://qmail.jms1.net/mailhub.shtml Adam
Re: [vchkpw] segfault vdeluser 5.4.21
mlist wrote: Okay, running into a new problem suddenly. I thought I had seen this problem on the list before - but my searches came up with nothing - so I appologize if this is duplicated. Now when I try to delete a user I get a segfault: mail:/home/vpopmail/bin # vdeluser [EMAIL PROTECTED] Segmentation fault crap. So I knew I saw this same problem somewhere else. It's noted in the 5.4.22 changelog. Why oh why didn't I go with 5.4.22 ??? I'll post this anyways for posterity. Matt I reported an issue with this a while back. I started using 5.4.22 a couple of days ago and the issue no longer exists, as per the ChangeLog. Adam

Regards, Rick !DSPAM:46c37534321933360265985! spamhaus seems to be working fine for me on two machines that handle about 20,000 messages per day each. The fact that I check spamhaus last in my list may have something to do with why it still works for me considering someone's comment that only high volume servers were being blocked, whatever high volume means. I have found that the following list of RBL's works extremely well and use them all in this order on both of those machines: bl.spamcop.net spamsources.fabel.dk list.dsbl.org cbl.abuseat.org sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org Adam
[vchkpw] vdeluser segfault
I've been using vpopmail-5.4.19 since it was released and just came across this issue. Whenever I do a vdeluser, I get a segfault. Vadduser, vaddomain, vdeldomain, etc. all work fine. Here is my configure line for vpopmail-5.4.19: ./configure --enable-logging=y --enable-domain-quotas --enable-auth-module=mysql --disable-many-domains --enable-auth-logging --enable-sql-logging --enable-valias --enable-mysql-limits --enable-onchange-script When I use vpopmail-5.4.18, everything works fine. I tried this on a different system that uses vpopmail-5.4.19 but in CDB mode instead of MySQL, and the problem doesn't exist. I have added -ggdb to the CFLAGS= and LDFLAGS= lines in Makefile, recompiled, and then ran gdb ./vdeluser. Here is the output from that: # gdb ./vdeluser GNU gdb 6.3 snip This GDB was configured as i486-slackware-linux...Using host libthread_db library /lib/tls/libthread_db.so.1. (gdb) set args [EMAIL PROTECTED] (gdb) r Starting program: /downloads/qmailrocks/vpopmail-5.4.19/vdeluser [EMAIL PROTECTED] Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. 0xb7de4001 in strstr () from /lib/tls/libc.so.6 (gdb) bt #0 0xb7de4001 in strstr () from /lib/tls/libc.so.6 #1 0x0804c8d9 in isCatchall (user=0xbfa71f10 tester, domain=0xbfa71de0 leezer.net, dir=0xbfa71c80 /home/vpopmail/domains/leezer.net) at vpopmail.c:1606 #2 0x0804cb40 in vdeluser (user=0xbfa71f10 tester, domain=0xbfa71de0 leezer.net) at vpopmail.c:1738 #3 0x08049f72 in main (argc=2, argv=0xbfa720e4) at vdeluser.c:59 (gdb) I'll be honest here and admit that I have no clue what I am looking at and that I am just following instructions from John Simpson on the qmailrocks list. If further debugging output or info is necessary, let me know. Adam

Quinn Comendant wrote: There seems to be an issue with vdominfo reporting the wrong number of users. I wanted to make sure you guys were aware of the bug. See below, users: 0 should be users: 3. [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$vdominfo domain: hoodwink.us uid:89 gid:89 dir:/home/vpopmail/domains/hoodwink.us users: 0 vpopbull reports the correct info: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$vpopbull -Vn [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Also, Eric 'shubes' [EMAIL PROTECTED] on the qmailtoaster list reported even stranger results: I get users:2147483637 (no kidding!) on a domain with one user (postmaster) and some forwards. I get user:2147483646 on a domain with 13 users. Any ideas? Quinn I have noticed the problem Shubes reports many times before. Always when I have migrated from one server to another. My procedure for migrating is to tar up the vpopmail/domains directory and export the vpopmail database. Then, untar the directory on the new server and import the database. In this scenario, vdominfo reported correct user counts on the old server, and outrageous numbers like 2147483637 on the new server. If I go into the database and manually correct the user counts for each domain in the cur_users field of the dir_control table, the counts display accurately and increment correctly when new users are added from that point on. When I migrate, however, if I do a vadduser for each mailbox on the new server and then untar the domains directory, the counts are accurate. This is obviously not practical. Anyhow, just letting you know you are not seeing things. Adam
