RE: [vchkpw] smtp auth failed when no email to be retrieved
well um doesn't look like neone actually hit any thing that would give them a connection because your clients ip never appeared in a pop b4 smtp connection. your error message, and log extract as listed does not show a pop connection cleanring the tcpserver to clear the ip as an allowed relay. so your qmail acted normaily and denied a relay status for the originating connecting ip. kenneth gf brown ceo shadowplay.net > -Original Message- > From: Winanjaya - CBN [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: January 29, 2007 02:00 > To: vchkpw@inter7.com > Subject: [vchkpw] smtp auth failed when no email to be retrieved > > > > Dear All, > > I am runnning qmail+vpopmail 5.4.17 with smtp auth for > roaming users, my users use Outlook Express as email client > to send/receive email. > > My problem is: > It seems like smtp auth failed (see below message) when > he/she does not have email to be retrieve. > > I need advise.. > > Thanks & Regards > Winanjaya > > > > The message could not be sent because one of the recipients > was rejected by the server. RE: [vchkpw] OT: Migration of Lotus Notes to Vpopmail
um fetchmail is your "friend" if you "know" the username/password of your lotus clients (or can take the lotus server and globaly reset the passwords to something you "know"... ) when run as root fetchmail has MANY neat options... you can set it up so that each new user account pops(or imaps) into the lotus notes server, grabs all the mail in the mail boxes, and restreams all messages to the new qmail smtp server... for delivery of the mailbox on the new mailserver vola in your new mailservers inbox will be all the emails works great... especially if you're migrating a large amount of clients we did this for a client last summer that had to move 20k clients from an old ISP server to a new inhouse server... took 6 hours (ok we had a PHAT pipe) we did it without requireing any administrative access to the original server. now there are a few stumbling blocks .. it helps if you "know" all the imap folders that people have sorted their mail into etc etc. or better yet tell the users to move any mail they want to save to "somedir" by migration date... it also helps if you dont "accidently destroy source mail" in the process... (make sure you dont have remove mail from server after pop set to YES) or you'll never be able to restart the process if something goes horribly wrong. it also is a wise idea to run a few tests on some throw away accounts (ok run LOTS of tests) when your ready to do it... block the lotus server from receiving any smtp or pop traffic except from your target box) x your fingers and throw the switch... it also helps if you throw that switch when no project managers, VPs, presidents, CEOs, CTOs, and administrative personel and other people who tend to worry, panic, or point out things like "its too simple it cant possibly work" are around, I recommend some time around 2am kenneth gf brown ceo shadowplay.net > -Original Message- > From: Alex Borges [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: February 19, 2005 14:02 > To: vchkpw@inter7.com > Subject: Re: [vchkpw] OT: Migration of Lotus Notes to Vpopmail > > > -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- > Hash: SHA1 > > Juan Enciso Condeña wrote: > > | Hi list. > | > | I need migrate accounts and mailbox from Lotus Notes 5.0.1 to > | Qmail+Vpopmail. RE: [vchkpw] Fields' use?
um.. the uid and gid are used on a unix file systems to identify permission levels of access to files and directories. they allow an administrator to compartementalize access on a *nix box. they are closely tied with the applications chmod chown and chgrp. pw_uid is == uid from the /etc/passwd file same with pw_gid they were probably not identified in documentation because they are pretty evident if you came from an *nix file system admin background they do have the added benefit of being used as a reference for the functionality that dave pointed out. kenneth gf brown > X-Istence wrote: > > > > > On Nov 18, 2004, at 3:44 PM, Matthew Walker wrote: > > > >> What are the pw_uid and pw_gid fields in the user info > actually used > >> for? hey all... im running 2 smtp qmail/vpopmail w/mysql servers with a shared via nfs mail directory (for the domains tree) I am having issues in adding additional domains I use ~vpopmail/bin/vadddomain to add the domain on the primary box. all qmail control files and the users files are all updated and the domain directory is created. I can then add users etc... with no issues. when I head over to the secondary box.. and do a vadddomain I receive the following error. Error. Failed while attempting to add domain to auth backend Error: no auth connection a vuserinfo of a user in the original domain from the secondary box makes no complaint at all in addition the ENTIRE domain directory that I just added and all users... is unlinked in the process... poof gone vanished... can someone explain the reasons for this? im assuming at this time that the best work arround is a manual modification of the qmail control files and the users files and then a qmailctl restart... however im curious as to why vadddomain would unlink a directory structure that was already in place...AND complain of no auth access the the db its been running off for the last month? but in the next shell command give me full userinfo pulled from the same database. kenneth gf brown
RE: [vchkpw] quotawarn....
im assuming your refering to the ISSUE2 at the bottom of that page? well that would work ...however I have already applied that patch... and as I stated ... did so with no compile errors. we still have no update or unlinking of the quotawarn file in the users maildir when the user pops in and deletes files... infact you can tell that the patch has been applied because of all the -filesize -nummailsdeleted on the lines of the maildirsize file. hehe... first thing I checked. has neone else had this issue? once again the issue is no removal of quotawarn messages > -Original Message- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: August 21, 2004 03:48 > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: RE: [vchkpw] quotawarn > > --> snip for brevity<--- > > Hello Kenneth, > > I'm absolutely NO expert but I found the next solution to > your problem in my quest to solve other problems: > On: http://www.pipeline.com.au/staff/mbowe/isp/vpopmail-mysql.htm >

I would configure courier to not listen to the pop port and confirm that qmail is configured with /service for qmail-pop3d running I'd then stop courier restart qmail confirm that it is qmail-pop3d that has control of port 110 and then restart courier. kenneth gf brown
[vchkpw] quotawarn....
hey all... I have been tracking a few issues that are slightly anoying and causing me great concern when running vpopmail on a production site. vpopmail 5.4.5 (I know 5.4.6 is more current however ... the sql injection is the least of my wories at this time!) netqmail-1.0.5 Maildir++ patches applied. qmail-pop3d mysql clean builds and all applicable patches applied. we are using Maildir as the delivery method of choice. issue one... clearing a quotawarn message. the systems fail to clear a quotawarn message for users who pop in and remove mail (once they are over quota). in addition there does not appear to be a method to force a recalculation of the maildirsize without deleting it entirly. the 15min expirey and recalculation of maildir does not appear to be occuring or if it is it fails to remove the quotawarn message. below is a maildirsize for an account in question... original maildirsize file 20971520S,1000C 20972344172 -16375287 -135 -3200873-3 -1396184-34 42348 1 -42348 -1 24151 18571 -4272 -2 18331 -1833 -1 56575 1 -56575 -1 25111 -2511 -1 24091 -2409 -1 18011 16121 -1801 -1 -1612 -1 16661 -1666 -1 11160 1 -11160 -1 55791 778 1 -6357 -2 12152 1 -12152 -1 25231 275814 1 69601 -285297 -3 52781 1880379 1 43591 39684 1 -1929700-4 301056 1 -301056 -1 780 1 10543 1 307468 1 -318791 -3 18231 -1823 -1 40581 -4058 -1 51644 1 51649 1 51648 1 51647 1 51646 1 51647 1 51643 1 51644 1 -51644 -1 -103297 -2 -154940 -3 -51643 -1 -51644 -1 1620451 1 -1620451-1 45781 95931 -14171 -2 18201 59651 56171 -1820 -1 -5965 -1 -5617 -1 19781 -1978 -1 19991 37071 37231 -1999 -1 -7430 -2 31261 -3126 -1 31371 -3137 -1 41311 -4131 -1 44671 -4467 -1 38771 -3877 -1 20221 -2022 -1 18730 1 -18730 -1 34341 1 33811 793 1 -37722 -2 -793-1 11952 1 -11952 -1 26771 -2677 -1 86911 -8691 -1 90461 -9046 -1 12023 1 -12023 -1 17741 -1774 -1 53091 32911 -5309 -1 -3291 -1 71411 27421 -7141 -1 -2742 -1 10827 1 -10827 -1 11441 -1144 -1 67711 -6771 -1 13935 1 -13935 -1 42068 1 -42068 -1 922079 1 20992 1 73091 54511 55341 789 1 20541 1 503616 1 556989 1 556991 1 787 1 354195 1 783 1 46471 57891 713230 1 69955 1 20871 2356089 1 38871 80781 58131 14341 -6127065-23 44631 794 1 -5257 -2 807946 1 -807946 -1 43801 -4380 -1 93591 -9359 -1 69181 -6918 -1 94971 -9497 -1 21651 19001 -4065 -2 11176 1 -11176 -1 33451 69778 1 -73123 -2 29651 -2965 -1 31321 -3132 -1 40951 -4095 -1 780 1 75901 16681 52681 114303 1 44809 1 96211 96261 -193665 -8 39645 1 -39645 -1 56949 1 -56949 -1 11441 -1144 -1 16201 -1620 -1 98955 1 -98955 -1 29801 -2980 -1 reported 0% usage of quota... [vchkpw] valias questions....
issue two... the system does not forward mail to multiple recipients of an alias listed in the valias table... eg... table data of ... somealias domain.com./Maildir somealias domain.com [EMAIL PROTECTED] somealias domain.com[EMAIL PROTECTED] most notably it never arrives in the ./Maildir no errors are reported this is the equivelent of a multi line .qmail-somealias file with the contents of ... ./Maildir [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] how would one go about adding a valias record that accomidates delivery to the popaccount and forwarding to other acounts kenneth gf brown
