[vchkpw] vpopmail 5.5.0 +LDAP
Hi List, Is there some more extensive documentation available on this? Compiling the packages isn't a problem, but I am a (open)LDAP newbie and need to figure out what needs to happen on the LDAP server. I confirmed that my qmail+vpopmail has access to the ldap test box, now I need them to 'talk' I adjusted pam_ldap.conf pam_ldap.secret not sure if this is needed... pam is already configured to use LDAP ... I adjusted vpopmail.ldap (replaced the 'kingdom' stuff with my stuff) Now is it just a matter of adding qmailUser.schema valias.schema to my ldap schema's? and 'run' ldapadd -f vpopmail.ldif -x -w kingdompass -D 'cn=root,dc=kingdom,dc=lan' ? Before I adjust vpopmail.ldif Is everything in there 'needed? dn: ou=UNIX,dc=zone3000,dc=lan ou: UNIX objectClass: top objectClass: organizationalUnit What is this zone3000? Should that not be 'kingdom' Would it not be better (convention) to change the gid uid below to 89? # vpopmail system user (anyway you can create it in /etc/files) dn: cn=vchkpw,ou=group,ou=etc,ou=UNIX,dc=kingdom,dc=lan cn: vchkpw gidNumber: 34 ... dn: uid=vpopmail,ou=passwd,ou=etc,ou=UNIX,dc=kingdom,dc=lan uid: vpopmail givenName: vpopmail sn: vpopmail cn: MTA Client Side userPassword:: Md== loginShell: /sbin/nologin uidNumber: 39 gidNumber: 34 ... a small HOWTO in the backends/ldap directory would be nice... Thanks for the help. Peter !DSPAM:4c79a31632711060473671!

[vchkpw] Vpopmail and LDAP
Hi, I am thinking of altering one of our machines to authenticate via LDAP through the Vpopmail database. Currently it uses files in /home/vpopmail/domains/virtualdomain, which contains all the data for the passwords. Theoretically, how easy is it to put the data into an LDAP system and keep the two syncronised? We aren't big enough for an SQL database (only with around 120 users). Thanks. [vchkpw] vpopmail with LDAP
Hi all! I'd like to move my current mailserver from Postfix/Cyrus to qmail/courier-imap and til now almost everything works fine, but there is this small thing that makes me crazy :-) The testserver is running FreeBSD 5.2.1 with qmail, courier-imap, vpopmail, ldap, ... and performs really well. vpopmail writes the users into ldap as it should, the only problem is that I'd need the password in plaintext! If I don't use ldap, vpopmail stores the password in plaintext at the end of line in the password file, but as soon as I change to ldap it stores them MD5 encrypted. MD5 would be ok, as long as it stores the plaintext password next to the encrypted one. So has anyone ever had the same problem and could help me out? Please give me a hint ;-) Thanks in advance and greetings from Austria Bernd Ueberbacher

Make sure you compiled with the --enable-clearpasswd option (which is the default). Make sure your LDAP table(?) has a field called clearPassword. And, make sure you're using vpopmail 5.4.0 or later (5.4.3 preferred). http://vpopmail.sf.net/ If that doesn't solve it, someone with more LDAP experience will have to help out. -- Tom Collins - [EMAIL PROTECTED] QmailAdmin: http://qmailadmin.sf.net/ Vpopmail: http://vpopmail.sf.net/ Info on the Sniffter hand-held Network Tester: http://sniffter.com/

Hi Paulo Not sure if anyone answered your post yet, but the answer to your question is that you need to add the ~vpopmail/etc/vlimits.default.limits file (search the archives for more info) Is there any chance you could type up a basic guide that shows what steps you followed to get a running vpopmail with openldap ? I am currently working on updating the vpopmail README files to try and provide a basic installation guide for each of the vpopmail modules. The existing README.ldap contains a fair amount of info, but it lacks a step-by-step summary Michael. - Original Message - From: Paulo Fragoso [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, October 24, 2003 1:45 AM Subject: [vchkpw] Vpopmail with ldap Hi, I'm trying to use vpopmail-5.3.29 with ldap, I have made some modifications on vldap.h: --- vldap.h.origMon Oct 20 15:59:57 2003 +++ vldap.h Thu Oct 23 11:21:01 2003 @@ -33,13 +33,13 @@ #define VLDAP_SERVER localhost #define VLDAP_PORT LDAP_PORT #define VLDAP_USER cn=Manager, o=vpop -#define VLDAP_PASSWORD proba +#define VLDAP_PASSWORD * #define MAX_BUFF 500 #ifdef OLD_VLDAP #define VLDAP_BASEDN ou=Subs, o=vpop #else - #define VLDAP_BASEDN ou=%s, o=vpop + #define VLDAP_BASEDN o=vpop #endif static char *vldap_attrs[] = { Now it's working with openldap server (openldap-server-2.0.27) on FreeBSD 5.1-RELEASE, but I am getting an error when adding frist domain: # ./vadddomain dominio.com.br Please enter password for postmaster: enter password again: Error: (vadduser) can't read domain limits ^^ This domain was added in ldap base: # ldapsearch -D cn=Manager,o=vpop -b o=vpop version: 2 # # filter: (objectclass=*) # requesting: ALL # # vpop dn: o=vpop objectClass: Organization o: vpop # dominio.com.br, vpop dn: ou=dominio.com.br,o=vpop ou: dominio.com.br objectClass: organizationalUnit # search result search: 2 result: 0 Success # numResponses: 3 # numEntries: 2 What's happening? Also, be sure to --enable-qmail-ext=y if you want to use .qmail-ext files. Once vpopmail is installed, configure sqwebmail: --with-authvchkpw --without-authldap (and of course any other options you want) You may also want to put --without-authpwd, --without-authshaoow, etc. if you don't want any of these authentication modules compiled into sqwebmail. It's ok if you do because you can disable them through the authdaemonrc file under ~/sqwebmail. Now under ~/sqwebmail/libexec/authlib you should see the auth modules you compiled. Authdaemond is a script which will load the authdameon modules based on what it finds. You will only need authdaemon.plain so if anything else starts up you can edit the authdaemond script to prevent other modules (ex. - if you don't compile --without-authldap and authdaemon.ldap starts up). [vchkpw] vpopmail fails LDAP support.
Over the past several days, I've painstakingly installed QMail 1.03, OpenLDAP 2.0.x, qmail-scanner, etc onto a mail server. It's all working as it sits, as in I can create an LDAP entry, and send email to it immediately, with dynamic home account creation. I'm using ldap only for authentication. (either plaintext or MD5 passwords in the LDAP DB) I've basically followed http://www.lifewithqmail.org/ldap to the letter, with maildir and home dirs at /var/qmail/maildirs/. Now the game is to get vpopmail and sqwebmail to work, and this project will be DONE. =) However, installing vpopmail with the ldap option fails on the first test, that of vadddomain, as per the instructions README.ldap, fails. =( Doing some searching resulted in this page that indicates the problem is an incorrect qmail.schema: http://www.mail-archive.com/vchkpw;inter7.com/msg07584.html but he doesn't give the qmail schema that works! Also, this guy indicates that he's close to the solution, but it doesn't work. http://www.mail-archive.com/vchkpw;inter7.com/msg07587.html I've tried chown -R vpopmail.vchkpw ~vpopmail, as well as mkdir ~vpopmail/users; chown -R vpopmail.vchkpw ~vpopmail/users; to no effect. Has anybody come up with a fix for this? Am I just stuck? -Ben - The best way to predict the future is to invent it. -
