I just read Gary's message. What he says about stop and let it suspend is the
killer. The WRD will just kind of sit there suspended and as soon as it is
moved a bit that is when I used to get the strike.Tony

Chuck,
You've got a rotary vise. If you would just use the rotary feature you
wouldn't need rotating hackle pliers.
Well, since these are so cheap, ($3.45 and $4.45 respectively) I went ahead and
ordered two pair as one has a short handle of about 1 1/2” I think and the
other has a 4 1/2” handle with a built in half hitch tool on the end of the
handle. Guess it’s the only way I can find out of they are my
Hi Chuck and Neville
I have the rotary hackle pliers and almost never us them, but also have one
like Neville's that gets used often.

Folks: I’m getting a fly tying materials order and have always wanted to try a
pair of Rotary Hackle Pliers. Do they work good?? Are they better than regular
hackle pliers. Only problem I foresee is that after you wrap the hackle, those
rotary pliers will hang down a lot farther than normal
Tony: Thanks a lot. I’ll try them for sure. I’m also thinking that with the
water still cold here in te rivers/lakes, therefore making crappie more
sluggish, that by fishing them by moving them just a bit at a time I’ll catch
more fish at this time of the yr. Thanks again,Chuck

Chuck,
This is one from the early years of the VFB. I can't remember Dick's last
name. I want to say Stock, or Stockton. Maybe somebody here remembers.
Anyway, it is an easy fly to tie and does work well.
*Dick's Dandy:*
*#8 3XL streamer hook*
*Tail Red hackle tail 3/8 long.*
Thanks Tony and Neville. So they do NOT get in the way of tying off the hackle
then??? How long are the handles on them?? Stockard offered a “standard” shaft
length and an extended size. I chose the standard, but should I order the long
handled ones instead?? I have NOT placed my order yet.
I have a couple of the longer handled rotary hackle pliers but seldom use them.
The first pair was an expensive Tiemco with a rubber/plastic grip pad on one of
the jaws. This came off and was lost early on. The other pair is from Griffin
(much cheaper than Tiemco) and same style with a rubber
Neville: Thanks a lot, Chuck

Gary: Thanks a lot. So if I am picturing this fly in my mind, the finished fly

Umm.. I mean a Mickey Finn or Black Nose Dace with a beard that is LOL. Sorta
