   the old heart! At my age, I need all the stimuli I can get!
   I may have been in Continent, but I don't remember what
   country I was in. It's an age thing. They tell me it is very
   wet and damp there.

   Please do your part! You can do your bit by remembering to

   done! Life is too short for negative drama and petty things.
   So, laugh insanely, love truly and forgive quickly!

[VFB] Hot Weather in Waco

It hit 100 today, the 5th day of the summer season.   Can't complain 
though cause this time last summer we had 12 , year 31 straight.  Way 
too hot to fish,so, I'll tie a few flies, read some fishing books and 
try a new remedy on my feet - acupuncture.  I can still walk, albeit 
with a cane.Might crank up the old JFTD for the VFB. That's the Joke 
Club I did several years ago, if there's enough interest. LEMME KNOW

We’ve all heard of folks falling in and getting hurt, even drowning, 
or maybe falling and spraining an ankle on the way to/from a river.  I 
may have come upon a new peril.  I slightly pulled a muscle in my 
right arm several months ago.  It would get sore if I did anything 
heavy but otherwise was just sore enough to be a minor nuisance.  
About six weeks go, one of my buddies (yes, Jimmy, I DO have some 
friends!  g)  invited me to go to see if the white bass run had 
started yet on the Whitewater River upstream from Brookville Lake in 
Eastern Indiana. 



I'll make an even longer story short:  We found the fish.  My 
chartreuse over white Clouser with extra heavy eyes did the trick (I'm 
too cheap to buy a sinking line!). 



I finally had to quit after landing fifteen of those feisty fish 
because my right arm hurt so badly.  I should have quit after catching 
six, but how can you quit when you're catching one every other cast?  
That was six weeks ago.  Unfortunately, it still hurts that almost 
that badly.  I can’t cast at all.  In fact, I can't hardly lift 
anything much heavier than a cup of coffee. 



I'm seeing my family doc later this week and hopefully a good shot of 
cortisone will help it out.


Am I whining or complaining?  No way.  I’m bragging!  It was worth it!

[VFB] Update on Jimmy D

Hi Guys:. 

Hope all is well with you.  Here's an update on me. I sent  some of you 
an earlier  email and I owe you an apology. This goes back to breaking 
my ankle on the Gunnison four years ago  The ankle never has been worth 
a toot since then.I  have good days and bad days. Plus the blood clot 
that has to be medicated daily. I also have Essential Tremor, NOT 
Parkinsons,  A shot glasss of bourbon a day seems to help, as per the 
docs suggestion.  ;-)The tremor doesan't affect my fly tying..
etc..  More of an aggravation than anything else. I guess you might say 
I've had my cup running over these last two years


Members of my Rotary club weren't aware of the tremor until I told them 
during my program on rattlesnakess.  ;-) The worse part of the deal is 
the atrophying of the muscles in my calves and pain in my feet which 
keeps me from exercising. This is not part of the essential tremor, just 
another rock in the road for me to navigate  from when I broke my 
ankle flyhing the Gunnison River in Colorado. Long story It's Osteo 
Arthritis in my feet. and torn misisiniscus, from skiing.. This is what 
makes it impossible to wade or play golf anymore. I could add more 
stuff but not really important.  The bottom line is that my balance is 
shot. It, Takes two wading staffs and that's a bundle what with my chest 
pack and the other must haves


Jody is fine.  A tougher woman you'll never see. Thank God she's in 
great health snd a 12 year breast cancer.

[VFB] Denny Conrad - A tribute from Jimmy D and Jeff Hines

Hi Gang!

I'm sure you're aware that Denny Conrad passed away last week.  Denny 
was one heck of a nice guy. I met him at Sow Bug and later invited him 
to spend a week with me at Philmont Scout Ranch fishing for rainbow 
trout in the Rayado, my favorite little river.  Denny was my guest and 
all his expenses were waived because I put him on the Philmont Fishing 
Committee.  All Denny had to do was pay his way to and from his home in 
Washington.  He took the bus.  I picked him up at 4:00 a.m. at the 
Raton, NM at an all night restaurant. Ugh!


Denny wasn't aware of my ultimate purpose in getting him to Philmont, 
but Jeff Hines was.  You see, Denny lost his Eagle Scoout badge back in 
1941 but never said too much about it.  Anyway Jeff let me know  and I 
suggested we get another Eagle and re-present it during the week at 
Philmont.  Jeff, who lives in Carrollton, TX  and I got with National 
BSA and they checked it out and all was kosher, so they sent the Eagle 
Badge to me.  I presented it to Denny at the opening banquet of the 
Fishing Invitational. Blew Denny totally away.  It was a very moving 
experience for all of us,  Denny was spechless.

Last year I did a kids program with over 40 kids and all the parents

fly tying, then some on water. the families we started 3 years ago are 
still out there, they may have upgraded a bit, but they are having fun!

Good to be back.  Son Chris fixed me up with a neat  Optiflex 755, small 
mainframe but very powerful. Only
problem now is my font size.  I'm used to using 10 +, but what you see 
is what I get.  jumkped through the
right hoops, but stays on 9.  Can usuall roll the mouse wheel and 
enlarge or decrease, but not so far.  May

jump back to my size.  It's done it before.  May have to start using 'caps'

[VFB] Update on Jimmy D i don't normally say much about myself, but a bunch of you asked.

 Not much has changed since my last update.  The tremor doesn't affect 
fly tying and everyday use of my hands, When I get frustrated is when 
acts up. A hand-wringing motion.  Cup of coffee or plate, No trembling 
their either. I do lose my balance once in a while which is makes taking 
a shower difficult.so I'm having a bench built in the back directly 
across from shower head. No fall in the shower yet, but it's just a 
matter of time unless I get some muscle tone back.


Now, to my feet. good days, bad days. I only use the cane on steps.and 
out in the yard and a walker on occassion. The big callus where the 
posterior tibi-tendon connects the heel and big toe finally decided to 
shed some of the callus. Don't know how this happened, but I'm very 
grateful and makes walking so much easier. Hopefully it'll shed more 
callus build-up.Most of my leg/foot problem were caused by lack of 
exercise resulting in atrophyed leg muscles.FROM WHEN I BROKE MY ANKLE 
ON THE GUNNISON AND SPENT 6 MOS, IN CAST.So far my diagnosis is 
'essential tremor'Not Parkinsons yet, but could morph into PK.  Also 
have osteo arthritis in both ankles.
I'm still amazed that my hand can be trembling and I can 'will' it to 
stop and it does. Go figure :-P   Most people never notice it.


Just finished 6 months of taking Camudin for clot in thigh So far, so 
good, the doc is seeing what he wants to see. Sidelight, lost 15 pounds 
because of my limited diet. The doc did let me off for christmas dinner 
and boy, I Pigged out. Now, I'm using my nautiilis knock off to help

regain muscle in my legs, etc,

Enjoy your week.and don't worry about me. I'm hanging in there like a 
rusty fish hook.

P.S. The tremor dosen't affect my typing.
