I don't know if I agree entirely that you do less with less. There are
several advantages to training traditional newspaper journalists to be
able to use more media (writing for the web, audio and video) as well as
re-training traditional photojournalists to take stills (and vice versa).
Not a very good example of it's capability. That was one of the first
shots with it. But it was all pretty heavy zoom. We were about 50+
yards away most of the time.

If you just want people to watch you videos, then a good strategy for
that may very well be to push them everywhere you can.
I use 2 pieces of equipment for getting steady cam like footage.
I use a bogen/manfrotto monopod with a manfrotto 3265 (pistol Grip
head). This allows me to balance the unit, not unlike the tripod set
up in this video. As a bonus, I can also articulate the pistol grip
