[videoblogging] TriggerStreet

2006-01-07 Thread Digital
I just discovered TriggerStreet, a site for undiscovered filmakers
and screenwriters. Looks like it is fully backed by Yahoo? Does anyone
know about this project?

I dug in more, looks like Kevin Spacey founded it and it is a current
advertiser on Yahoo looking for folks. Check out the Billy Crystal and
Kevin Spacey video asking people if they have ever written a screen
play.

Dig into the site, triggerpoint.com and there are some decent
independent short films in there. I guess I am just suprised that I had

Re: [videoblogging] I've been vlogging in the dark, looking for the answers

2006-01-07 Thread Richard Bennett-Forrest
Hi Jaguar, (do you have a real name, or is it really Jaguar?)

If you want to know what the green glow Jay is referring to looks
like, then take a look at this:

http://www.kashum.com/blog/1135167415

Almost ten minutes of green glow, in different light temperatures.
The camera is an old Sony DCR-TRV15E PAL. I'm pretty sure most TRVs
would give the same if not better results.

I'm a big fan of vlogging in natural light, or using the night vision
if it is too dark. That's one of the things I like about vlogging,
restricting yourself to just what the camera will do. And I think
more and more people are getting used to this effect as well. It
helps smash the boundaries between real life and fake life.

Regards,
  Richard

[videoblogging] MP4/RSS (Was Re: The Best Codec)

2006-01-07 Thread Steve Watkins
Sorry I stopped participating in this discussion, Ive not had much
time in recent weeks.

You have managed to get quite good qualiy from Real at a lower bitrate
than many videobloggers use, so I can see why you like the format. Yes
it probably would make sense to offer mpeg4 as well, to cater for the
emerging ipod etc markets, and people who dont like real for whatever
reason.

mp4 does not have to be 'download for later play' only, it can also be
encoded to 'progressive download' so that it gives a good experience
for people watching in a browser without waiting. But real already
does that for you, so yes its the 'video podcasting, download to watch
later on computer or portable device or tv' using RSS feeds and stuff
that you want to look at.

Ive forgotten how comprehensively your questions were already
answered, but questions about creating the mpeg4,hosting it, and
getting an itunes compatible feed come up all the time. If your
content is stuff that people have to pay for tog et, then this will
create an additional issues or 2 that isnt discussed here that often.
It may be easier to start off without any sort of feed, and just offer
the mp4's as an additional downloadable format via website links for
members to start with.

Thanks for your kind words in another thread about by rant about the
BBC article on Digital Citizens. Unfortunately I only made 4 test
videos last year, I am a failed videoblogger, hoping to do more in
2006 but I dont know if it will actually happen, I get distracted by
nerdy things.

which I think implies some kind of rss-for-video technology which I
know
nothing about at the moment. So I'm looking at another learning

don't even know what question to ask yet.

When I go to http://feeds.feedburner.com/punkcastpodcast which you

I've actually used pretty much the same spec of real for
the last 5 years on punkcast, for much the same reasons that
you mention. I give the link for the BBC download page, which
gives a pretty junk-free free install.
 http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/audiohelp_install.shtml

I'm not interested in embedded video, however, I'm looking for the
lean-back experience, for streaming or download.

Particularly, for non qt-pro owning i-mac users, real was the
most practical free way of giving them full screen video bar M$,
I have experienced problems over the years playing back QT on
 weaker PC's. - stuttering etc,

The increasing use of broadband and introduction of the VLC player
has changed things in recent times, making mpg or DIVX delivered via
 bittorrent a high-quality alternative.

The advent of the video iPod, and the podcasting method, has created
a new standard, which is mp4 running around 600kbps, downloaded for
later play. Which codec to use is a matter of choice. I've seen very
good
results using Xvid but I use [EMAIL PROTECTED] w/AAC at 128kbps audio.

Your question of 'Best Codec' really should be qualified with a purpose,
 - if you've been following the discussion here on google video, you'll
see that the general consensus is that for embedded streaming it's
very possibly flv in flash, but that's not much good for offline play.

I'd suggest you do, as I do, for continuity and backwards compatibility,
continue to offer real on your site, and offer a podcast of higher
quality
 mp4
for those that are up to speed.

A feedburner page offers an easy link to such content, see

[videoblogging] Re: I've been vlogging in the dark, looking for the answers

2006-01-07 Thread Joshua Paul
You don't necessarily need a new camera. You can accomplish it by
lighting using IR. Here's an excerpt from Digital Video Hacks:

...The other trick is to add more light. While this might seem
illogical, there are types of light that your camcorder can see but
that you (or your subjects) can't. Specifically, your camcorder can
see infrared (IR) light, which is invisible to the human eye...

To see what I mean, try this: take a remote control, point the end of
the remote toward your eye, and press a button. You won't see
anything, because your eyes can't see the IR light emitted by the
remote. Now try the same thing, but pointing the end of the remote at
your camcorder lens. On your camcorder screen, you'll see a brief
flash of light from the end of the remote, because the camcorder can
see the IR light. And this is what you can use to capture video in
situations where there isn't enough light to record normal video: by
using IR light, you can illuminate the subject without annoying or
distracting it.

You can read the entire hack at: http://reviews.cnet.com/

And a link to the book:

All sorts of things play DivX. VLC, ffmpeg. Check out the cnet article
and it might clarify what they are looking for. They want to be able
to push google video onto the 50 million DivX certified devices out there.

If you are charging through google, they would obviously manage all

[videoblogging] Re: How to format .avi files for Google video?

2006-01-07 Thread Steve Watkins
The other month when I was spouting my opinions about DivXs place in
the future, devices and mp4 etc, I think I probably did underestimate
the number of alternative hardware devices that are emerging that will
support DivX. Ive really no idea how many 'media portals' of the
itunes and recently announced creative variety there will eventually
be, but if there are plenty then DIvX stands a better chance of
getting its foot in the door.

Maybe the format chaos will continue for a lot longer than Id
originally hoped. Oh well, the upside of this is that theres plenty of
choice and plenty of deals to be made, with different hardawre
manufacturers, codec reators and content providers coming together to
make deals.

On the MPEG-LA licensing front, when this videoblogging group had a
brief look at the mpeg4 h264 licenses that cover content
creators/publishers some time ago, it seemed most videoblogs would be
safe and free from paying fee's on several levels, mostly audience
size and length of video material.

I dont think theres many people who want to be cynical about the DivX
content licensing stuff, they just want to know exactly where they
stand. Has it been clarified yet as per discussions months ago?

Cheers

2006-01-07 Thread Devlon
eBay auctions.

Here's a page that talks about using podcasts to enhance the
descriptions of eBay auction
http://auctionbytes.com/cab/abu/y205/m12/abu0157/s02

...but why stop at audio, imagine the imapct of a video description of
an auction item? All different angles, you could see the item in
action (if applicable)

Cool.

I read somethign once that kept going on about how the true value in
ebay is trust. Its there to facilitate trust between sellers and buyers.

Makes sense, and video can be another trust-building component.

Someone with the right video service could do well to look at ebay.
ebay bought Skype for a lot of $, again perhaps to use as
trust-building technology within ebay as much as for its other merits.
Maybe ebay will buy a easy video publishing service company one of

2006-01-07 Thread LeanBackVids.com
Here is the linking structure...

Find vlog on map:
http://www.vlogmap.org/find.php?feed=feeds.feedburner.com/ridertech

View FeedBurner stats:
http://www.vlogmap.org/feedburner/fbfeed.php?fbid=ridertech

Just to confirm, all feeds listed in VlogMap can be accessed via the
find.php?feed=x link. The feed url must be an exact match and not
include the http:// part. If the feed is found, it will redirect to
the map location... if not, it redirects to the submit page.

Not sure if I mislead Sull or just read it wrong... For the record,
the stats are the only thing limited to FeedBurner feeds.

inside the vodcasts that are aggregated on vlogdir, you should see a
vlogmap

will launch
a vlogmap for the feed IF it exists in the vlogmap database.
also, this only works with feedburner feeds.
vlogdir is also linking to a metrics graph that is generated by vlogmap.
this is in addition to the already integrated feedburner awareness api
access that vlogdir has made available, such as the subscriber
chiclet and
 weekly rss stats etc...

so, thanks matt for opening vlogmap up a bit more.

I'm thinking the home shopping network meets vlogging. Ebay becomes a
multimedia network... the ebay show. Pure happy evilness. I subscribe
to the ebay channel and get agregated videos of products... later I
can filter by categories or my trusted friends and sellers... any way
I like... homemade produced videos... everyone becomes a ron popeil
(sp?) :)

I've already seen a few video podcasts that demo products... mostly
they're very dull though... but I could see engadget or make video
podcasting... It's the future. :)

[videoblogging] Re: I've been vlogging in the dark, looking for the answers

2006-01-07 Thread Nerissa \(TheVideoQueen\)

From: Joshua Paul [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: I've been vlogging in the dark, looking for the answers You don't necessarily need a new camera. You can accomplish it by "lighting" using IR. Here's an excerpt from Digital Video Hacks: "...The other trick is to add more light. While this might seem illogical, there are types of light that your camcorder can see but that you (or your subjects) can't. Specifically, your camcorder can see infrared (IR) light, which is invisible to the human eye... To see what I mean, try this: take a remote control, point the end of the remote toward your eye, and press a button. You won't see anything,
because your eyes can't see the IR light emitted by the remote. Now try the same thing, but pointing the end of the remote at your camcorder lens. On your camcorder screen, you'll see a brief flash of light from the end of the remote, because the camcorder can see the IR light. And this is what you can use to capture video in situations where there isn't enough light to record normal video: by using IR light, you can illuminate the subject without annoying or distracting it." You can read the entire "hack" at: http://reviews.cnet.com/ 4520-11237-6323933-3.html?tag=viddet And a link to the book: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0596009461/103-7168833-2867817 (yes, shameless plug...again) HTH, Josh On Jan 7, 2006, at 7:18 AM, videoblogging@yahoogroups.com wrote:Date: Sat, 07 Jan 2006 02:13:42 - From: "jaguarfan888" [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: I've been vlogging in the dark, looking for the answers Does anyone know of any cheap camcorders that can record really well in low light? I do have a draft for the free license. Unfortunately we are still a
relatively small company and the same guy that has been working out

it shortly. The gist is that there are no fees or restrictions on
usage. But lawyers have to put in all these paragraphs about silly

cant bundle our software and sell it and weird stuff like that.

I have a few videos up there. It works fine and the quality is great but, as you've noticed, it requires the viewer to download a player. So I don't know how successful it is. I have not been back to look recently so can't remember whether they offered any statistics on how many people were viewing my videoes there.

For the record, the stats are the only thing limited to FeedBurner feeds.
noted. thanks for adding that clarification. On 1/7/06, LeanBackVids.com [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Just to confirm, all feeds listed in VlogMap can be accessed via thefind.php?feed=x link. The feed url must be an exact match and notinclude the http:// part.If the feed is found, it will redirect to
the map location... if not, it redirects to the submit page. Not sure if I mislead Sull or just read it wrong... For the record, the stats are the only thing limited to FeedBurner feeds.-Matt---

he just let me know that he finished adding this ability and i wentahead and worked it into vlogdir.com. inside the vodcasts that are aggregated on vlogdir, you should see a
vlogmap badge beneath the rss media items in the channel.clicking thiswill launch a vlogmap for the feed IF it exists in the vlogmap database. also, this only works with feedburner feeds.
vlogdir is also linking to a metrics graph that is generated by vlogmap. this is in addition to the already integrated feedburner awareness api access that vlogdir has made available, such as the subscriber
chiclet and weekly rss stats etc... so, thanks matt for opening vlogmap up a bit more. -- sull - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Just noticed there's a new HD camera coming that looks like it will be
