Hi schlomo, It as come to me like a bolt from the blue... Just like some people get to be Atheists. I am not a videoblogger, never have been. Good luck to these people who think they are, good for them, it's great. But I feel now that, I am not a videoblogger, yeah I use video, and I sure use blogger(tm), but I think that's why I never got, and got so very angry about and so frustrated with in the old days. [videoblogging] Weekly Flash Meeting Proposal?
Hi, To all newbies and the more, should I say, Seasoned among us. I am prepared to get the old flash meetings set up again, on a regular basis i.e. at least once a week. The best time really, due to time differences between europe and the US is probably Saturdays, where folks from the US can hook up with us over in the old countries can get together over the internet and discuss or catch up with all things video and internet, the states, saturday around lunch time, and the Euros after 8pm in the evening. What I want from you guys however is:- i. A want to do this kind of thing. ii. A big name each week, ie at least one of the more successful, award winning vloggers out there. iii. most of the old crowd, ie, Bill Streeter, Verdi, Ryanne, anderas etc. iv. a regular time needs a time period, lets me know how long these meetings should be. v. Help with either setting up a wikki, I have no clue, really, the wikki would be there just to advertise when the next one is. vi. An ask the experts meeting every month, where all those who know something would turn up and so would the newbies. This is my proposal, as a great green way of talking to the people we watch on the internet. All you need is a computer with at least broadband access, a mic and if possible a cam ( webcam is cool, isight better, camcorder is even better), however one of these is okay so long as you also have a keyboard. Of late not much has happened on these flash meetings, but it is a great way for folks to get together and some time learn something or become aware of other vloggers who you may not have heard of. It is also great publicity and a way of interacting with the community. Please let me know. Paul Knight http://pjkproductions.blogspot.com

1. You should definitely get an experienced pro to come in and do the lighting setup for you. Then. don't move anything. When you need to shoot, turn on lights and shoot. J VERY tough to light green screen right, even with good equipment, despite what many will tell you. As videobloggers, should we NEED to hire people, or indeed buy or hire expensive kit? Nah, use flourescent tubes, as Jan said a bulb behind the talent, and if needed a bit of natural light on the face, maybe a couple of filtered decorating style flood lamps too. I have used greenscreen on many of my videos, and if you follow he few basic steps, you can get round all this bullshit with a few simple and cheap store bought alternatives. for instances click on http://pjkproductions.blogspot.com and maybe these little gems will help you. With regards to all non-French people who use Blip.tv. Loiez Deniel lives in Rural France near to Claremont Feront, if you google map it, you will see that he lives slap bang in the middle of france, about oh lets see at least 3-4 hours away from Paris. He has complain bitterly about download speeds from blip.tv for some time now, but it's not only him, most of subscribers who live in France have the same trouble. He has been in contact with French Telecom, who explains that it is a parsing error or something like that. Although Loiez loves Blip.tv due it's great free hosting ability to share and download videos in quicktime etc, as well as the flash looking just right, he has found it more and more frustrating downloading the uploaded video. Which really is a problem. So does anyone know of any blip-like sites that loiez could probably try until either blip or french telecom get their collective acts together? Baring in mind that Loiez uses widescreen HD, even sometimes super widescreen in his work. Love Paul Knight

Re: [videoblogging] Vloggercon? (was Re: Tuesday FlashMeeting)
here's how I feel about vloggercon '07. it should be more like a film festival, than the how to thingy that last years was, there was too much time spent on the subjects of how I do it, net neutrality, copyright etc. Sod That!! Yawn Boring! I spent most of the Sunday session outside smoking and talking to interesting people. We should all get an invite like Irina did for the vloggies, no matter where it will be held, and it should be a competition, but more than that, if we could get hold a great big screen, loads of people, not just us can see what we are capable of doing and raise awareness that there is more than just TV shows, Films, Porn or happyslapping videos on the visual side of the internet. Vloggercon 07, should be Vloggercon 3: The power of the vlog or something like that, and even if those who can't attend due to distance or money problems should be at least be allowed to show. This should be a celebration for all the hours of unpaid work, to expose those who aren't as popular, as well as the cream de la creme. In fact, how's about less attention be paid to the popular types, and more emphasis on those that are trying. Specifically with regard to my concerns below: I must be stupid, but I spent hours today - HOURS - trying to find out what the hell DivX was, why I should use it, why I hadn't heard of it being used by any videobloggers, who exactly *does* use it to make it the world's most popular video compression technology. Could I believe any of this? Did it matter? And what form do DivX files come in? Some things talk about AVI, Paul makes his in MOV. Everywhere says that DivX audio is in MP3 form. How is this packaged with the video: in one file? And isn't this a pain? And most of all, IF I USED IT, WOULD PEOPLE BE ABLE TO WATCH MY VIDEOS WITHOUT PERFORMING COMPLICATED TECHNICAL PROCEDURES TO UPGRADE THEIR PLAYERS? Honestly, this information could not be more difficult to find. The Wikipedia entry is impenetrable geekspeak, the DivX.com site is full of hype and no answers to any of the questions above. I googled for a long time, and tried to find Groups and Forums. I'm exhausted and annoyed. I still don't really know the answers to any of them. It comes down to this: I am happy with encoding my films in Quicktime with the H264 codec, and theoretically in Windows Media if I can find the time, and letting Blip make a flash player for my blog. Why should I use DivX? Are there people out there who are big DivX fans who are looking for DivX content and would subscribe to my feed so that they can watch DivX films on their portable devices? What? Why? Who? Where? When? HELP! Rupert On 23 Feb 2007, at 16:55, JV wrote: I don''t want to get into a commercial here, but just trow out some details. DivX is based on the h.263 standard. On the other hand, DivX is integrated into a lot of devices as a feature on products (phillips, Sony, Toshiba...) to the tune of over 70 million devices shipped. I'm not sure how many video enabled ipods have shipped. There are always elements we are working on to make the technology better tailored for video blogging. It is a marathon, not a sprint. That is why you see Ben and myself bopping around in forums and at events. We want to do it right, and we that means ingesting as much input as possible. Part of that is orchestrating web elements with a coherent and powerful consumer electronics offering. We think part of that CE offering should be that it is global and open. On the computer side, that means we comply with standards that are published and open as well as support as much on the OS side as we can. We just released the open source encoding app for Mac. Our browser plugin is tested on every browser on PC and Mac. To take it a step further, our videos are decodable by numerous third party applications like VLC (This means the video works in the Democracy Player). On the flip side, we work with xvid so they can include DivX profiles in their encoder. This allows xvid to be decoded in our decoders. So there are a lot of improvements to work on, but when I look back over the past few years, I think we are laying some good tracks. Re: [videoblogging] call it a podcast or a vlog?
Oh this old chestnut, not everyone likes to think their show is a videoblog or vlog, some have dragged themselves from the audio and make video podcasts instead, since portable media players such as ipods and alike came out its made it possible for vlogs and video podcasts and indeed vblogs (another term for vlog). When you sign up for a feedburner account it asks you 'are you a podcaster' due to podcaster coming from the audio side a few weeks before people started using video. Some people prefer audio podcasting, as we are pretend or Virtual TV stars, they are Virtual or pretend Radio Stars. Evolution of Web 2.0..Blog...Photoblogaudio podcastingvideo blogging, v-blog, video podcaster. what next? cor blimey, josh!!! compress to ipod settings then save as a quicktime .mov, its much easier and comes out at 640x480. Hi, Richard, I downloaded this onto my mac, brilliant cross fades on the fluffs by the way and on the whole the video was quite informative, so that's why I get acid indigestion, ha! Anyway more to the point, I took the file and did a 'movie to ipod' convert in quicktime pro, and it came out with no loss of quality but i did come out about 0.9mb larger. My method is save your original edit in a way that you can, then open it up in quicktime pro and movie to ipod, now I don't know if the PC version does it properly or not, but failing that, you can convert a movie file in itunes so that it will play on an ipod. One thing I do know is you need to keep the kbps down below 700, this is on the ipod specification page at apple, a view of this might help you also. In Michael's tutorial the file is an uncompressed DV file from final cut pro and in our case it is an uncompressed .avi file from Premier and we are using quicktime pro for the PC, and Michael is using quitime pro for the mac, but all the same settings exist on the PC version that he refers to in the tutorial in the mac version of quicktime. Oh yeah, the other thing is that we set the data rate to 800 rather than 550. For the record, this evil file is presently on blip: http://blip.tv/file/get/Inspiredhealing- Episode30TheDigestiveSystemHeartburnSteroidShotsForTenn947.mp4 Maybe someone can tell what is wrong with this file that it won't work on my iPod ... thanks ... Re: [videoblogging] Vlogging in the Winter :(
Before. Read your instruction manual it will tell you about operating temperatures. Could it be that your lens fogged up? We all know the answer to that one. After you bring it indoors. I think Casey had the same trouble last year and my advice is the same, if your machine gets cold then warm again quickly, you could get condensation on your heads. This will make your tape stick to your heads, and therefore loss of any recoding made because the tape will be wrapped around your heads, and more seriously, the machine will be Kaput, and in need of major attention. So when you have done filming, remove tape before you bring it indoors, then leave the camera for about 1 hour maybe 2 on the safe side to acclimatize. In summary, it was probably not the acclimatizing to cold but the re- acclimatizing back indoors. Hope this helps. [videoblogging] Two Things.
Hi guys and gals, Two things: 1. Thanks for supporting me the other day, all of you who did about the BBC story, that was great, I took your encouragement to heart and actually visited the Local BBC centre here in Nottingham, I showed them my stuff and have a radio interview booked for next Thursday, so hopefully soon we might be hearing from other people from the East Midlands, asking how do I compress my video, etc. I am looking forward to that. 2. Hi Steph, Just lately, Randolfe Wicker contacted me via Veoh and said why the hell I didn't put more of my videos up there? So I have been trying just lately as a final push before I start down the dark path with PODSHOW, One problem is for some reason I can't get them to accept my videos that I have on Blip.tv. Also I have tried to give them my feed, but either the database is being updated or it doesn't recognise my feed. I would like to be part of the growing Veoh Network. They've made mistakes in the past, but they do try to rectify them when the backlash hits this group. Which is better than most Internet companies. Thanks Schlomo, Gena and Steph, I am actually shitting myself about this interview milarky, it is the first time I have been interviewed by the media, so any help in that field would be great. Re: [videoblogging] Video quality in Premiere Elements
Yeah Nox, thats happened to me too, just lately using Final Cut Pro, well quicktime pro compression anyway. And that's in PAL. Worst is I had to get round it by saving it as a dv widescreen file, then I bunged it into iMovie and then exported it as a letterboxed DV file then from that I Movie to Ipod it. Things are getting a little bit awkward just lately, it happened on both of my last two videos, it's never happened before, I think it might be a bug in Quicktime or itunes or something, hopefully someone will also notice and tell apple to sort it out. Hopefully Apple are listening. Paul Knight PS possibly the reason I didn't notice it previously was because the 100% pjk was edited using iMovie. The last update for quicktime was a few weeks back now. No problem, the new project opened with the little video placeholder frames in the sceneline view set to 16:9 ration. But when I tried to add a clip in widescreen format Premiere squished it into 4:3 and added black bars at the side. :( I managed to get the clip widescreened (I can't seem to find the menu option that I used, now that I'm looking for it). But the video quality is terrible. I know I changed something to do with pixel ratio, and based on the lousy output quality I have to believe that was the wrong way to do it. So... anyone know how to get Premiere to believe me that my 16:9 clips really are widescreen? I do not know how much any UK TV versions of such things could of influenced people really, and I dont know whether there have been many widel-watched TV equivalents in the USA over the years, so I dunno how wrong I am, just rambling really. I am thinking that this whole concept is a little behind over here, so much so that it is only just recently that Youtube has been mentioned on Mainstream TV and Radio and it seems any kid with a mobile phone and computer can access myspace, there is also the time element over here, it is still really uncool to spend a lot of time in front of the internet rather than being in front of the TV. Also video blogging over here, ie putting video onto a site, requires that the person has a super inflated ego, something that is not so British, we being the reserved sort. And you are right, over here Reality TV rules, top shows include BIg Brother, I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, Wife Swap etc. So there must be some sort of coalition between the two. Hi DuncanI wondered if you watched the quicktime version or the flash 7 version. I set my Sharp Video recorder to Super VHS mode and set the dvd to full quality and ripped at mp4, however the VHS copy, which, lets face it isn't the same quality as DV, this is the best you are gonna get. Re: [videoblogging] Re: FCP render question
Hi Richard,Yes, turning the Unlimited RT on is a good idea. There are other things I have found that helps speed up the rendering process:1. Make every clip(all those AVI or MOV or WMV) you import into a DV file, before hand using Quicktime. If you are importing straight from a DV camcorder, the file is already in DV format and you get away with doing things to it before requiring a render.2. Make sure that your save file is located on another Hard drive than the one your operating system is on, preferably connected via firewire.3. Render each bit as you go along, rather than waiting to render at the end.4. If you are green screening or using color correction these do take time, but avoid long peices of footage between cuts, in fact I have found if it is a long bit there is nothing wrong with chopping it into smaller pieces before you edit. Then copy over the setting onto the next segment.5. I have also found that due to the nature of this beast we call FCP, it is sometimes almost necessary in some instances of rendering to just get up from the computer and go and make a cup of coffee or tea, walk around the house, mow the lawn, walk the dog, go down the shops for a newspaper etc, and by the time you get back the thing will be finished rendering, it's just the way it is.6. You can however if you click on your canvas box just above the playback controls and use your mouse wheel you can see what the thing will look like frame by frame if you wish.Hope this helped.PaulOn 16 May 2006, at 21:12, Zadi wrote: Hey Richard: On the upper left-hand side of your sequence timeline there is a little button with the letters "RT" and a downward facing carrot.
