At present, I do not believe that Apple Maps will automatically announce
intersections. At one point, I would have gone so far as to state that such a
feature is not likely to be forth
Apple Maps does do this, actually. In Maps, find the "tracking" button, and
double tap it until it is set to "on with headings". Now, so long as Maps is
open and the phone is unlocked, you'll hear streets and some POIs as you move.
