Re: MBraille questions

2015-06-05 Thread christopher hallsworth
You can, at least with the .fb dot command. The .fb post dot command may not
work though. These are due to changes in the Facebook API that is preventing
third party clients from integrating with Facebook.

Re: Best App for Navigating Headings in a Word docx file

2015-06-05 Thread Alan Lemly
Neal,

Thanks and what you say about not saving as filtered html makes sense.

The good news is that when I double tapped on the filtered html agenda within
Dropbox, that it opened in the Dropbox reader and I have access to the headings
with the rotor. So your guidance provided me with what I wanted to accomplish.

I am surprised that a docx file containing headings doesn't seem navigable with
the microsoft word app. That may well be my unfamiliarity with the app.

RE: Best App for Navigating Headings in a Word docx file

2015-06-05 Thread Neal Ewers
If my suggestion doesn’t work, you might want to try things other than filtered
files. I think I tried this once and it didn’t work. I think Safari may need
the folder that goes along with the individual HTM file. I don’t remember what
the other two options are in Word when you create the file, but you might try
them and see if they work.

I apologize for what seems like a newbie question but I'm having difficulty
navigating a docx file containing the NFB annual convention agenda.

I've reviewed this file in Microsoft Word and see that it contains headings.
However, when I open it with the Word app on my iPhone 6 and try to navigate to
headings with the rotor set to headings, I receive a no headings found
message. I've also tried opening it in Voice Dream Reader and was unsuccessful
again in navigating to the headings with the rotor. Seems like in Voice Dream
that headings weren't even an option on the rotor.

Can someone with more experience navigating marked up documents point me to the
best app for navigating to headings using the rotor? I've tried saving this
document as a filtered html file as I used to do on my Stream for navigation
purposes but so far I've been unsuccessful in finding an app to open it in with
which I can navigate to headings with the rotor.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Alan, I just put an HTML file in my dropbox, went to my dropbox on the iPhone,
found the folder, and simply clicked on the file and it opened in Safari. I
could use headers. I did not do share or anything like that.

I hope this helps. If not, I’ll try something else.

It's an htm file which I can rename if need be but I'm scratching my head

share to get to the open in screen, safari isn't one of the Apps listed. Maybe
that's because the file isn't named with an html extension?

Any suggestions how to open a Dropbox file in safari?

Thanks.

FS: 64GB iPhone 4S

2015-06-05 Thread goshawk on horseback
hello all,
I have a 64GB iPhone 4S, in very good condition to sell.
the phone has been reset, is running the latest IOS 8.3, and comes with new
unopened apple earphones, mains unit, cable, at least 7 extra cables (most
completely unused, includes 2 dock extension cables), and southbook leather
case, (which was about £50 on it's own).
the phone has been very well looked after, and apart from when it had it's sim
changed over from O2 to Vodafone, has always been in the case.
it comes with standard speed dots tactile screen overlay fitted, but buyer can
easily remove this if not required.
phone is unlocked to any network.
asking £170 or reasonable offer.

payments by paypal, (with 4% to cover charges), bank transfer, or cash on
collection, which is generally from March, Cambridgeshire, unless buyer happens
to be somewhere I am going to.

can send either articles for the blind, (no insurance/tracking, so please do
not hold me responsible for any loss or damage if using this),
or can send fully tracked and insured for £8.

RE: Dictation Function Not Working

This happens to me every so often. I’ve found no other way to get the dictation
feature back or Siri for that matter, but to completely turn off and on the
phone.

In other words, I would dictate a paragraph or two, it will drop off the last

Subject: Best App for Navigating Headings in a Word docx file

Re: Voice Dream Mail, probably targeted for a sighted audience

2015-06-05 Thread ROBERT CARTER
Hi,

As far as I can tell, at this time, Voice Dream Mail only works with the inbox
and doesn’t allow one to work with other mailboxes. You can purchase the pro
version and work with the inboxes of multiple accounts.

The purpose of this app seems to be to allow one to very quickly run through
the inbox, have mail read and quickly flag or delete the message. The app works
really well if you don’t expect it to do more than this.

When you are having the app read an email, a three finger tap will bring up a
help screen with the list of available gestures. I saw the email from the
developer saying that this help screen wasn’t working for everybody. It works
fine for me on the iPhone 6 plus.

Again, if all you want to do is quickly get through your inbox, this app is one
way to do it.

NFB Newsline

2015-06-05 Thread Tom Lange

Hey all, got a question. I use NFB Newsline on my iPhone 6 regularly,
especially during my long morning commute. I view newspapers and magazines in
the app, and I also have some of my favorites e-mailed to me. Anyhow, this
morning I was reading the June 15 edition of Time magazine and found that a
number of articles just seemed to be incomplete, and below each of them was a
line which read "this article appears in the June 15 edition... order a
reprint", or something to that effect. It was as if what I was getting through
the app was an abstract rather than the full content. Has anyone noticed that
before with the NFB Newsline app, and is this something to do with the app
itself, or would the Daisy version that I receive via e-mail have that problem,
too? If the Daisy content's okay, is there a way that I can somehow get the
Daisy content from my e-mail attachments into something like, say, Voice Dream
reader or iBooks? I'm really curious about this. Thanks in advance.
Tom

Best App for Navigating Headings in a Word docx file

2015-06-05 Thread Alan Lemly
I apologize for what seems like a newbie question but I'm having difficulty
navigating a docx file containing the NFB annual convention agenda.

I've reviewed this file in Microsoft Word and see that it contains headings.
However, when I open it with the Word app on my iPhone 6 and try to navigate
to headings with the rotor set to headings, I receive a no headings found
message. I've also tried opening it in Voice Dream Reader and was
unsuccessful again in navigating to the headings with the rotor. Seems like
in Voice Dream that headings weren't even an option on the rotor.

Can someone with more experience navigating marked up documents point me to
the best app for navigating to headings using the rotor? I've tried saving
this document as a filtered html file as I used to do on my Stream for
navigation purposes but so far I've been unsuccessful in finding an app to
open it in with which I can navigate to headings with the rotor.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Alan Lemly

Re: Question about Genre and "Save" Buttons in Radium Internet Radio App

2015-06-05 Thread Craig Werner
Hello, everyone.

Through reading about the features of the Radium app and through email
correspondence with the company responsible for it, I figured out how
I got into the menu with the "Save" button and buttons labeled with
icon names. Perhaps the reason may prove helpful to someone.

There is a "Change Icon" button that allows the user to change the
icon associated with a radio station. The icon denotes the kind of
service the station streams, such as jazz, classical, talk, etc. The
"Save" button allows the user permanently to change the icon. This
button is not accessible via VoiceOver, but if it is pressed by
accident, the "Change Icon" menu appears. The Radium rep I wrote to
said she would report the problem to the developer for fixing in a
future release.

Re: Question About External battery Power From Anker?

2015-06-05 Thread Brent Harding
I got the battery from Ravpower that's 9000 mah with a little lightning
connector built in, and I think it delivers at least 2 amps on that connector,
and even the 6 seems to charge faster with it than the wall plug does. I think
most of these chargers now automatically detect the maximum current so you
don't end up frying stuff.

Hello everyone, I am having a very strange problem with voice over using my
iPhone six. This morning I slowed down the speech, I am using Alex. When I
went back and put it to the 35 per cent where I always keep it, when ever I
type letters, or use anything having to do with letters, the speach sounds
different, slow, like it did when I slowed it down.
The rest of things that I do, the speach is normal.
A while back, I lost the original female voice. Don't know what happened
there, but, I didn't do anything about it. I was wondering if I should wipe my
phone and start over. Any suggestions?

RE: A good accessible app to DJ with

2015-06-05 Thread Merv Keck
Hi,

I love J2 for many reasons. There are several DJ functions I have not tested
it with however. First I have not docked it with any of the hardware that it
is compatible with which turns your phone or iPad into a regular DJ editing
machine. Second some of the manual functions such as scratching as in taking
your finger and grabbing the turntable pictured on the screen and moving it
back and forth and doing various DJ sorts of things are not really possible
with voiceover. However, there are a lot of other things that J2 does well
such as handling fades and two simulated turntables and edit on the fly with
said tracks, and allowing you to put in sound effects along with your music.

The other major thing I have not tried is the fairly new integration with J2
and Spotify. That is purported to be the super duper wammer jammer DJ tool
of all times but I have not tried it myself.

3-finger tap should get you Help.

But I’m seeing that it doesn’t work for some users. I’m trying to figure out
why.

Best,

Re: Dictation Function Not Working

2015-06-05 Thread hebertisaac99
I don't kno if this will fix the problem but have you tried this?
First go to settings.
Next go to general.
Next go to keyboard.
Next swipe to enable dictation and then double tap. This will disable dictation.
Then reenable dictation try that and see if that works.

Re: MBraille questions

2015-06-05 Thread Richard Turner
Hi Krister,
To edit, make sure in settings you have the option to move the cursor while
previewing text set to on.
Then, hold a finger in the dot 3 position.
Flick up or down with another finger to change the unit between, characters,
words, sentences, lines, and paragraphs.
Once you have the unit you wish to move by, keep holding on dot 3, and flick
left or right with that other finger and you will move forward or backward by
that amount.
Once you have gotten where you want to be, Lift your finger off dot 3 and flick
left with two fingers to delete one word at a time, or with one finger to
delete one character at a time. I hope that helps.
I don't use FaceBook so I can't help you there.

Re: voice dream mail?

2015-06-05 Thread Dave
I would have thought, that there would be a help section, on the voiceDream
website, before releasing this app. But i have taken a look, and there
isn't. The website only mentions voiceDream reader, and voiceDream writer.

I would love to see, this app, live upto the previous 2.

Subject: voice dream mail?

Hi.

can someone explain to me how to use this app? I open the app and can see my
inbox. I have several folders set up in my gmail account. Is there any way
to see all my folders? When I open the app my normal voice reads out the
email if I flick right and left. Do I need to turn voice over off in order
for the app to work? I can see the settings screen and have gone in to
choose a voice etc, I can’t see any help for the app. How do I know what the
gestures are? How do I get them to work?

I think that’s it for now.
thanks.

Hi Richard, no I haven't contacted anyone about this, as I am also very
happy with the stock mail app! Juno used to work on my I-phone and my

so I am not surprised that it wouldn't work with this app, but I was
hoping it would! GRIN! Also, I did not turn off voice over before
trying Voice Dream, so I may install it again just for grins and giggles!

Voice Dream Mail, probably targeted for a sighted audience

2015-06-05 Thread Richard Turner

I believe the main target audience for this app is the sighted world who want
to be able to deal with reading, replying and deleting their Email without
having to look at the screen.
Note the section of the description that talks about using it while driving.
It is not intended to compose mail, just read it quickly and delete it or if
you pay for the pro version, allow you to reply by voice commands.
For those who use VoiceOver anyway, this app probably won't offer much
advantage.

Richard

iCloud Mail No Longer in Notification Center?

2015-06-05 Thread Alex Hall
Hi list,
A few days ago, I was trying to make a new mail alias on my phone. I
accidentally turned iCloud Mail itself off, so immediately turned it back on.
Ever since, I've noticed that iCloud mail has disappeared from my Notification
Center, though my Gmail still shows up, as does another mail account from a
smaller provider. I've checked the notification settings I can think of, and
all accounts are set to show notifications. I can't figure out what else to
try, and yes, I've turned the phone off and back on and even done a home/power
reset. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Have a great day,
Alex Hall

Hi, Carol.

Voice Dream does support IMAP. Here's part of the app'[s App Store

Supported email services include Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, iCloud, AOL,
Outlook.com, and any IMAP-based email service.

This is truly an honest question. What advantages does this mail app have over

Re: Voice Dream Mail

2015-06-05 Thread Paul Hunt
Hello everyone. I tried voice dream mail and found that it isn't a full IMAP
client because it doesn't support multiple folders (mailboxes if you use the
OSX or IOS definitions). The documentation says that the paid version supports
multiple accounts.
Finally, there doesn't seem to be a way to compose email. Yes, accessibility is
very important and the app must contain the features that are important to me.
For me, Voice Dream Mail doesn't have the features I need in an email client .

I think what Joseph was saying that if you use either the quick nab using the
left or right arrow keys or using the control and option left or right arrow
keys you can find the back button.
Then to double tapp it either press control option space bar or press the up
and Down arrow keys together.

To delete a station in iTunes Radio first open the music app.
Make sure the radio tab at the bottom of the screen is selected.
Next swipe to the edit button and then double tapp.
Next swipe to the station you want to delete .
Then swipe down to the delete option and then double tapp.
Then swipe left or right to find the done button and then double tapp.

First, have you written Winston Chen about your issues.
But, also, did you read the description?
I do not know if Juno is iMap, but this is from the description in the
app store:

- Supported email services include Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, iCloud, AOL,
Outlook.com, and any IMAP-based email service.

I was on the beta team, and while I got it working fine with my Gmail
account, it wouldn't work with my main Email because it is not iMap.
So, I didn't test very deeply, though I could understand the potential
benefits for some.
Frankly, I'm fine with just using the mail app with voiceOver.
I may download the app again and see how it is with my Gmail account now
that it is out in its release version.

Dictation Function Not Working

2015-06-05 Thread Terrie Terlau
I'm running iOS 7 on iPhone 5. I press dictate button, double tap, speak
until phone dings and says thinking. However, nothing is written. I have
dictated in many apps with no problem for a long time. This has happened in
the past week or two. It also happens when I stop dictating before the
dictate buffer is full.

I have rebooted phone by turning it off, waiting, and turning it back on
with no change.

Can anyone suggest settings to check or what I should do next?

I use this feature a lot and would hate to lose it.

Thank you for your thoughts.
