Thanks so much for all your assistance everybody it worked like a charm. I
tried it in the middle like some people suggested but I guess it’s more on the
right hand side of the screen but regardless it worked that’s what’s most
important. Thank you again.

Thanks for your prompt attention!

well, it is easier than I had written, but it still takes one more step.
I opened a text message, double tapped on the phone number at the top middle,
then on the info button, but I then had to double tap on another info button
before the option to add to contacts came up.

This is my experience with doing that. It may be easier than this, but here
goes:
Adding a contact from a text message

Open the text message.

Then double tap on the phone number.
Then, double tap on the phone number again.
Then flick right to the info button and double tap.
You have to then double tap again on the number before you find the create
contact option where it usually shows up.

Hope I didn’t confuse you with my explanations. Thanks in advance for your help.

Trouble with Paramount+

2021-03-17 Thread Jen .
Hi I purchased a Paramount+ through my Samsung TV last week and used my seven
day free trial but subscribed to it but tried to watch seventh Heaven on my TV
and I can play two episode but then it asks me to start paying after that.
I try to install Paramount+ on my iPhone iPad and iPod touch and sign in with
my Apple ID and password but it says I don’t have a subscription and even when
I tap on restore purchase through iTunes it doesn’t work.
I also installed the app on both my third and fourth generation Apple TV boxes
and still I have the same issue that it won’t let me sign in but yet I have
paid for it so I’m not sure why I can’t watch that particular program it wants
me to buy the seasons from iTunes rather than play them through Paramount+
if anyone can help me with this figuring out how to connect everything and make
it work as it should I would greatly appreciate it thanks in advance for any
help you can provide
I should I add that when I subscribe to it on my Samsung TV I went into the
Apple TV app and went under available channels and it asked for my Apple ID and
password to verify the purchase so I’m not sure why I’m having trouble

RE: Apple reportedly cuts iPhone 12 mini production amid tepid demand

2021-03-17 Thread Carolyn
That was what I was wondering, Christopher, if I would have to pay a penalty
for paying off my phone.

I am satisfied with AT, but would like to see if I pay the phone off at no
additional cost, if I could get a less expensive plan than around $70 a month.
I do not need a whole lot of data.

I don't have a problem getting a device from a carrier and paying it off in
installments. I'm not planning on changing my provider any time soon. Others
want the flexibility to change providers if they find a better deal. I think
some people also think it's cheaper to buy a phone outright then it is to pay
it off in installments, but this doesn't seem to be the case with me and AT
Paying off the device in installments is separate from your calling plan, at
least it is today, so you don't pay a penalty for paying off your device early
and then changing to a new carrier.

I'm not trying to compare them,
I'm just wondering why the likes of the uSA lock phones to the network,

Surely If you buy a phone with a contract from a provider then you are going to
use that account / contract for the time it runs, Unless someone else comes out
with a plan / contract that is so good you need to jump on it, Which as you say
you could pay off but is that really going to be a forward thinking thing?

I'd expect that if you paid your contract off to get out of it, Then it would
cost you more to break the contract terms.

Jumping around like that isn't a sensible idea to me,

But then I've had the same provider for a couple of years now and they are
great to deal with and the service to my knowledge never goes out.
Mind you that might change with natural desasters

Simon,

You can't compare providers in NZ/Australia or Europe with North America
although while here in Canada there aren't nearly as many choices as in Europe
or even the US, we have a fairly regulated industry and 2 or 3 years ago our
government oversight organisation ruled that providers can't lock their phones
any more so now any phone you buy in Canada whether it's from Apple direct or a
carrier has to be unlocked.
As for keeping your customers I never understood what locking a phone had to do
with it especially if carriers have to unlock their phones for no charge after
6 months or even after the contract is up. It's the contract which forces you
to stick with your carrier for the duration of said contract not whether the
phone is locked so even if I have an unlocked phone, if I received a phone for
a discounted price in return for committing to a 2-year contract then I'm still
locked in for 2 years and if I want out I have to pay out the contract.

Hey Richard,

We say a dogs breakfast here in NZ and I think they say the same in Australia
also.

 You don't pay for 5g,
That's great,
I don't think my city has 5g yet let alone paying to have the service as well.

A "pig's breakfast", now I like that image for what Kelly's carrier did, grin.
If I jump to a 13, a big if since I just got the SE 2020 last year; I'm glad to
know that my carrier, Xfinity does not charge for the 5 G service.
I too would buy from Apple direct then get the SIM from Xfinity.

If I jump to a 13, a big if since I just got the SE 2020 last year; I'm glad to
know that my carrier, Xfinity does not charge for the 5 G service.
I too would buy from Apple direct then get the SIM from Xfinity.

RE: Apple reportedly cuts iPhone 12 mini production amid tepid demand

2021-03-17 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Cellular providers don't do today what they did a few years ago when they
subsidized the cost of your phone but locked you into a multiyear contract.
Today you have a calling plan, which includes calls, texts, data and so on. You
also have the option of buying your phone in installments, so you might pay
$23.33 a month for 30 months to pay off a $699.99 phone. Once you pay off your
phone then you're just paying for your calling plan.

In the old days there was no paying off your phone. You got a phone at a
discount when you signed up for a particular contract. The price of that
contract wouldn't change even after 36 or 48 months, long after you would have
paid off your phone.

Let me ask you something about phone contracts.

If you pay off one, does it cost you more? I got my 11 for $648 back in January
of 2020 on a 30-month contract of $21.57.

I'd like to pay it off and get on a less expensive calling plan.

RE: Apple reportedly cuts iPhone 12 mini production amid tepid demand

2021-03-17 Thread Simon A Fogarty
I'm not trying to compare them,
I'm just wondering why the likes of the uSA lock phones to the network,

Surely If you buy a phone with a contract from a provider then you are going to
use that account / contract for the time it runs,
Unless someone else comes out with a plan / contract that is so good you need
to jump on it,
Which as you say you could pay off but is that really going to be a forward
thinking thing?

I'd expect that if you paid your contract off to get out of it,
Then it would cost you more to break the contract terms.

Jumping around like that isn't a sensible idea to me,

But then I've had the same provider for a couple of years now and they are
great to deal with and the service to my knowledge never goes out.
Mind you that might change with natural desasters

This is my experience with doing that. It may be easier than this, but here
goes:
Adding a contact from a text message

Open the text message.

Then double tap on the phone number.
Then, double tap on the phone number again.
Then flick right to the info button and double tap.
You have to then double tap again on the number before you find the create
contact option where it usually shows up.

Hello all,

So like say yesterday a friend texted me with her phone number so with this
being said how do I get in there in the Messages program to edit it just like
you do with the phone when somebody calls you?

Now don’t ask me how this happened, last week somehow I got into it in the
Messages program and was able to create a new contact in the Messages program.
Hope I didn’t confuse you with my explanations. Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for your prompt attention!

It said something about sign out of game center. I click on the OK

RE: Apple reportedly cuts iPhone 12 mini production amid tepid demand

2021-03-17 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

If I jump to a 13, a big if since I just got the SE 2020 last year; I'm glad to
know that my carrier, Xfinity does not charge for the 5 G service.
I too would buy from Apple direct then get the SIM from Xfinity.

Richard,

Sorry to disappoint, but my carrier is Xfinity. The reason I didn’t buy the
phone from Apple was that Xfinity was offering a $250 rebate on new iPhones in
the form of a visa gift card. Also, Xfinity has a yearly upgrade program where
the customer can get the current iPhone a year after purchase. These deals
make Xfinity a compelling choice as a place to buy a new iPhone. I will say
the staff was polite and helpful. I received the phone delivered at my home on
Black Friday so staff and staff support resources were stretched at the time of
my return. Staff was always friendly, polite, and focused on problem
resolution. While errors were compounded, the store manager and customer
service staff were very willing to untangle the problems and make things right.
I was only without service on my iPhone 7 for about an hour as the iPhone 12
SIM was deactivated and I walked to the Xfinity store to drop off the iPhone 12
and have a new SIM card installed in my iPhone 7.

Well known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says Apple will release four iPhones in
2021 with all being about the same size as the iPhone 12 lineup. This will
include the iPhone Mini. Apple is rumored to be increasing the storage size for
the 2021 iPhones. I would be pleased with a bigger battery and 256GB of storage
rather than adding storage and keeping the battery the same.

RE: BlindSquare Crashing?

2021-03-17 Thread Deb Cook Lewis
Yes it's on to backup to Icloud, and yes my Icloud has enough space.
I've hard reset the phone, updated the phone, done everything I can think of.
Same problem on my husband's phone.

My only other thought that hasn’t been mentioned- Are you signed into iCloud?
How much free storage space is available in iCloud? Is Blind Square turned On
to backup to iCloud? If you go to Settings, iCloud & swipe down to Blind Square
you can check to confirm that Blind Square is on to backup to iCloud. Any of
the saved places in the Blind Square app are saved to iCloud for each use of
the app. I am not having any problems with the app. I have the latest update to
the app, 5.1 that was released 3 months ago. My only other suggestion is to
contact the app developer. It seems that you are the only person having the app
crash immediately upon launching the app.

RE: Masks & Face ID

2021-03-17 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Countries like the United States, Canada, most European countries and many
others in the world who are very interconnected and which are not islands would
never have been able to do what Nz or Australia did. Singapore and Taiwan are
other examples of countries where COVID-19 has been handled very well, but
again both are islands and it is much easier to close them off. In Europe all
the borders between EU member states have been gotten rid of a long time ago,
it is like driving from one State to another in the US or from one province to
another in Canada, you just drive from Germany into France or italy or from
France into Spain, no border controls or anything like that. The movement of
people was restricted, but just as with the US and Canada where the border has
essentially been closed for a year now, it is not possible to close it
entirely. There are people who live near borders who work across the border,
there are integrated supply chains where goods move back and forth from one
country to another and back daily and you can't shut these things down. Then
there is the willingness and compliance of the population, in some countries
people maybe more willing to obey rules set out by the government than in
others.

I completely agree that New Zealand should be held up as a model of a nation
that dealt with the pandemic aggressively and therefore avoided a lot of the
disruptions to the health system causing unnecessary loss of life and also
allowed their economy to recover more quickly. The mocking way you phrase this,
by asking questions like “Why do you need to wear face masks?”, especially the
first time you asked this where you didn’t make the connection with New
Zealand, comes across as ridiculing efforts in the US and other places where
wearing masks is a key part of being able to open the economy up safely. It’s
similar to how those who fight against mask wearing policies call the rest of
us “sheople” for taking our CDC guidelines seriously and who think a tiny
inconvenience, like wearing a mask, is well worth saving lives and safely
reopening our economy. The fact that you also keep asking this same question,
even after people explain to you why we wear masks in the US, and you obviously
know that it’s a political issue over here, makes one wonder why you keep
bringing it up the way you do. Curiosity is a good reason to ask a question,
and using a question to point out what New Zealand did right, is also OK, but
asking a question just to be inflammatory and stir up traffic on a mailing list
is something that should be handled by the list moderator.

Re: Apple reportedly cuts iPhone 12 mini production amid tepid demand

2021-03-17 Thread Kelly Pierce
Customer retention is extremely important to telecommunications
services in the United States. The industry has no new customers and
companies are working to keep the ones they have. I obtain both my
cable Internet service and cell phone service from the same company.
I also have a second phone line on my account and an iPad with a
cellular data plan. I could have bought the phone outright and it
would be unlocked after 90 days. However, I would not be able to
participate in the iPhone upgrade program where I trade in last year’s
iPhone for the current model each year. If someone has a completely
paid off iPhone, carriers are required to unlock the device in an
agreement they reached with the government. I bought my 7 from an
Apple store and was accepted on Xfinity after I wiped it and
completely restored the device so it could accept their SIM card. I
was on a GSM network and Xfinity uses Verizon which uses CDMA
technology.

Speaking of games, does anybody know what happened to Blindfold RS Games? A
friend of mine wants the iPhone app and I tried searching in the App Store for
Blindfold RS Games to send the link to him. It showed me a list of other things
like Game World, Blindfold games but not Blindfold RS Games. If any of you are
able to find the app in the App Store can you please email me privately with
the link to the app?
Thanks in advance.

RE: Apple reportedly cuts iPhone 12 mini production amid tepid demand

2021-03-17 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I'd think it would be obvious why a carrier would lock a phone to their
service, i.e. it keeps you tied into their services and offerings. Last I knew
in the US, as long as you were a customer in good standing, you could have your
carrier unlock your phone.

I have to say that I find it odd how American mobile providers sell their
phones to customers locked to the networks, And apple do this as well on behalf
of the providers.

In nz we only have 3 main providers and they all sell unlocked and unbranded
phones over the counter, So I could buy from one and go and put another
providers sim in it 5 minutes after purchase.

And apple only sell us unlocked phones,

 Why do your providers lock
 The devices on you?

I do know now that our NZ providers
Only bring in the lower end phones
For example none of the three have the 12 pro max in stock, And one doesn't
have the 12 mini,

I agree. I bought my iPhone 8 directly from apple, and had a great
experience. I'll probably do the same thing again once I save up enough money
for a new iPhone. I actually wouldn't be saving up for a new iPhone if it
weren't for the fact that my bottom speaker on my iPhone 8 just died on me
which I've never heard of anyone having such a problem. I am looking forward
to hearing all about the new iPhone's once they come out.

Re: an accessible driving game

2021-03-17 Thread Wendy Lin
Speaking of games, does anybody know what happened to Blindfold RS Games? A
friend of mine wants the iPhone app and I tried searching in the App Store for
Blindfold RS Games to send the link to him. It showed me a list of other things
like Game World, Blindfold games but not Blindfold RS Games. If any of you are
able to find the app in the App Store can you please email me privately with
the link to the app?
Thanks in advance.

Wendy
