Tune in radio also has tons of college football this year. Way more than
they've had in the past.

through CBS interactive, and is what used to be All Access through College
Sports TV. So far, it is usable with Voiceover. You just need to make sure
that the teams you like are among the teams they carry. I'm sure others will
tell you about other apps I own that you don't have to subscribe to, and they
are some good ones, but you take a chance that none of the radio streams
offered in those apps will work on all games. I really like college,
football, and try to get as many options to listen as I can even if it
requires several different apps to get what I want. Hope this helps.

That sounds like the one, I'll go get that. Thanks, glad someone answered.
Those teeny LED lights on things aren't over useful as a rule, yet it says

Hi,

I use Light detector, which I believe costs a dollar. There are lights on my
washing machine that are half an inch apart, or maybe a little less, and it
can detect which one is on. It plays a tone to indicate intensity, and you
can also double-tap and get numeric feedback on the intensity.

Best,

Mama Peach?

I was getting that not connected to the Internet error too until I updated
the game and that fixed the problem.

Here's where the story gets a little unusual. While in the Apps store
checking under updates, the Song Guru app was not listed with all my other
Apps having updates. However, when I checked under the purchased listing at
the top of the Apps store updates section, the entry for the Song Guru app
in that list had an update button next to it. Running that update fixed the
problem.

Terri, I like the music trivia games from the developer Webstone Oy.
Running
them down can be somewhat challenging since I think the app name might
have

changed along the way. They have both a free and $1.99 version of the app
and it works by letting the player pick whether they want to guess artist
or

song and then pick from among a variety of music genres. You get one genre
free to start with but you have to earn more coins with which to buy other
genres. The music presented comes from the iTunes library so you'll need a
wi-fi connection to play the game. You get 30 seconds to hear the song
clip

and you pick an answer from a multiple choice of 4. I find the game very
entertaining.

Here is a link to an AppleVis recap of the game:

http://www.applevis.com/apps/ios/games/music-quiz-guru-name-song-trivia

Here is a link to the free version of the app which is called
Guess the Song: Name that tune music quiz game free
By Webstone Oy in the iTunes Store:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/guess-song-name-that-tune/id535057846?mt=8

Here's the link to the Song trivia, name that tune quiz PRO which costs
$1.99 in the iTunes Store:

RE: 10% discount of $50 iTunes cards at 7-Eleven in Canada

2014-08-30 Thread SSEric
Don't forget too, many supermarkets in the U.S. offer gasoline discounts for
purchases. These purchases include gift cards, so buying your iTunes card
will get you something off gas. I don't know if it amounts to much in the
short-term. Even if your family doesn't drive, giving those discounts to
those who do provide you transportation will be much appreciated.

Also, quite often BestBuy includes card discounts in their weekly sales ads.

These were not ideas I had considered until Siegard mentioned it the other
day, so again many thanks to him!

Subject: 10% discount of $50 iTunes cards at 7-Eleven in Canada

Hello Canadian List Members,

Just found out that until Sunday, august 31 you can get a $50 itunes gift
card at Canadian 7-Eleven stores for $45.

Not sure if the same promotion exists in the States, maybe somebody there
can check it.

Last year at the end of July somebody told me they had a 20% discount on $50
cards so I bought 4 cards for $120, but had a $150 value.

Now I have about $54 left from that $150 balance and I do plan to buy KNFB
Reader when it comes out so I am going to pick up another $50 card today for
the discounted price. This way my balance will be back up to about $104,
enough for KNFB Reader which they announced will be $99. If I factor in what
I paid for these cards, I will end up paying about $85 for the app.

Anybody who plans to buy the app might as well grab 2 $50 cards and pay $90
for them, still a 10% discount.

Regards,

Sieghard

I imagine plenty of iDevice users on here may have come across these
speakers. I'm hoping some of you own them. :)

I'm debating between the 2.

The ue boom is winning in the features category. 2 devices being
connected

at the same time is a big plus in my book!
The sound notifications are nice subtle. Speaker phone is great, down
the road possibly creating a stereo pair is cool!

However, the Bose may be winning in the sound quality. Especially for
this
household's needs. We want this speaker for our living room. In fact
I'll

probably put it near the tv which is kind of the center of the room. We
don't tend to blast our music, but I do want rich, full sound. Classical

jazz are the 2 biggest players. Followed up by country, rock, oldies.

Do y'all have any guidance here? I continuously read about loud volumes,
but what about for the quiet moments? How do either of these speakers
stack

up to quiet sound?

BTW, I could toss in the ue boom mini, but I wasn't sure if it was in the
same league as the other 2.

Thanks so much,
Traci

Given all of the many changes Apple announced to the camera app at

NFB convention the release date would be two to three weeks before the
release of iOS8. Why not avoid all the goofs who download the app
right after release, don’t upgrade properly, and then complain about
the app not preforming properly. Releasing after iOS 8 would encourage
folks to install on top of the new iOS rather than the old one. From a
marketing perspective, many people in North America and Europe are on
vacation in August, going back to school, or otherwise tuned out. This
weekend, Chicago has its jazz festival. The last thing I want to do is
learn a new iPhone app on one of the last warm weekends of summer.

I agree with Sieghard, the KNFB folks likely ran out of runway and
needed to abort take off on the timeframe announced in early July,
causing us to speculate needlessly on why this company cannot properly
meet its commitments. This app has been hyped beyond belief. Will it

 Hello everyone,

As my structured shows, I had to specific questions I would like to ask. I
really hope that somebody can help me with both of these questions. It
 would
 sure be appreciated.

First of all, I am stalled the Apple iDownload app location a few days ago.
I thought I could download music this way, but I guess I am wrong. I don't
really understand how this program is supposed to work. Isn't it so that
 you
 can download files?
If so, how exactly does it work?

When I view the application, it sort of looks like it is a website. There
 is
a place where you can enter an address, but whenever I try to enter an
address to open a file, I don't understand how it works.
For instance, I wanted to download send space application for the iPhone. I
was on the same space website, and there wasn't open with area, and
iDownload was one of the choices. I chose it, and it went to that website
sort of looking page again. What is wrong? What am I doing wrong? I don't
 get this.

 No for my next question.
I would like to be able to open zipped files onto my iPhone. Especially
 zipped MP3 files.
 Is this at all possible?
If so, what program what I need, and how accessible is it?

Again, any help would be very, very much appreciated!

 Thank you,
 Terri

I imagine plenty of iDevice users on here may have come across these
speakers. I'm hoping some of you own them. :)

I'm debating between the 2.

The ue boom is winning in the features category. 2 devices being
connected
at the same time is a big plus in my book!
The sound notifications are nice subtle. Speaker phone is great,
down
the road possibly creating a stereo pair is cool!

Thanks so much,
Traci

If KNFB Reader's ability to guide the user to take good pictures works as
advertised then in my opinion it's worth the price. Don't forget many on the
list have paid $15 to $20 for 2 or 3 different OCR apps and another $30 to $50
for some sort of stand like the Standscan or even more in the case of the
Giraffe, to make it possible to take the best picture possible. Add that up and
a lot of people have already spend $50 to $70 or $80 and compared to that KNFB
Reader is not so much more. I too bought a Standscan, but while I might use it
here and there at home, I just can't be bothered to bring it with me. For me
being able to take good pictures and get good results free hand is definitely
worth $99 especially since I explained how one can get this for at least 10% or
even 20% less by buying a discounted iTunes gift card. With back to school they
should be around.

larger one to follow later. I also heard rumours now that an iWatch may be
announced on the 9th as well.

Maybe the expected 13 Megapixel iPhone 6 camera which is rumoured to actually
protrude a bit beyond the thickness of the phone along with these under the
hood changes will make KNFB Reader on an iPhone 6 even better, but that
certainly is not a reason why the app can’t be released for the 5S with iOS 7
unless they are just not ready to release it to the public in which case they
should just say so.

I believe KNFB are incorrect in thinking that iOS 8 will be released on or
about the 10th.

Apple's event is on the 9th. If Apple's past timetable is followed, and they
have been very consistent in recent years, the Gold master of iOS 8 will be
released to developers right after the presentation.

That gives developers a few days to find absolute show stoppers, and they would
have to be absolutely huge, for any change to be made. The iOS itself is
released about a week later. That would make iOS 8 release day the 17th.

One possible reason for KNFB delaying the release is if they are using some of
the cool new APIs in 8. There are a lot of under the hood changes to the camera.

Hello Don, nice to hear from you again. It's been awhile. I hope all is
well with you.

To answer your question, in sounds, music, you'll find an equalizer. You can
use this wile music is playing to adjust the sound to suit your own taste.
There are presets you can use or just the sliders. There is no right or
wrong here. Your two ears will tell you when the sound is the way you like
it. So, if you want less real deep bass, you can cut it. If your like me
and over the years you have lost the ability to hear the really high sounds
like the sizzle of a ride symbol, you can boost that to get the sound you
like. There are other tools here as well such as volume limit, sound check
and more. The sound check goes through your music library and can level the
songs so that there are no audio surprises such as one song playing to loud
and another to soft.

folks to install on top of the new iOS rather than the old one. From a
marketing perspective, many people in North America and Europe are on
vacation in August, going back to school, or otherwise tuned out. This
weekend, Chicago has its jazz festival. The last thing I want to do is

I agree with Sieghard, the KNFB folks likely ran out of runway and
needed to abort take off on the timeframe announced in early July,
causing us to speculate needlessly on why this company cannot properly
meet its commitments. This app has been hyped beyond belief. Will it
slice bread after it is released? People are expecting perfection and
the extraordinary. I’m waiting to learn about actual end user
experiences beyond a scripted demonstration or from the favored people
KNFB decided to allow to interact with the app.

In my opinion, the best one used to be an app called believe it or not,

I agree with Sieghard, the KNFB folks likely ran out of runway and
needed to abort take off on the timeframe announced in early July,
causing us to speculate needlessly on why this company cannot properly
meet its commitments. This app has been hyped beyond belief. Will it
slice bread after it is released? People are expecting perfection and
the extraordinary. I'm waiting to learn about actual end user
experiences beyond a scripted demonstration or from the favored people
KNFB decided to allow to interact with the app.

Hi Sieghard.

I tend to agree with you in that it's a lame excuse but it is what it is.
Hopefully it will be worth the wait and price. Personally, I'll be waiting a
while to see what others report. Right now, I'm chomping at the bit for an
iWatch that will hopefully have a decent sounding speaker and work with VO
and Siri.

$50 for some sort of stand like the Standscan or even more in the case of
the Giraffe, to make it possible to take the best picture possible. Add that
up and a lot of people have already spend $50 to $70 or $80 and compared to
that KNFB Reader is not so much more. I too bought a Standscan, but while I
might use it here and there at home, I just can't be bothered to bring it
with me. For me being able to take good pictures and get good results free

Hi Alan.

I have 2 AirPlay compatible printers, one is an HP multi-function inkjet, and
the other is an HP LaserJet 1102w. They both work very well but I use the
LaserJet more often because it’s cheaper per page and I don’t care about color,
just good print.

The multi-function is still a very cool printer because besides printing, you
can also scan wirelessly so you can place the printer where ever you want after
it’s been configured without having to worry about anything except having an AC
outlet for the printer. The LaserJet 1102w was $90 at the time on Amazon. The
HP multi-function believe it or not was $39 on a Black Friday deal last year.

Do you know if danish is one of the supported languages.

I thing I will invest the money, but unfortunately we do not have a back to
school sale in Denmark.

Best regards Annie.

the app not preforming properly. Releasing after iOS 8 would encourage
folks to install on top of the new iOS rather than the old one. From a
marketing perspective, many people in North America and Europe are on

I agree with Sieghard, the KNFB folks likely ran out of runway and
needed to abort take off on the timeframe announced in early July,
causing us to speculate needlessly on why this company cannot properly
meet its commitments. This app has been hyped beyond belief. Will it
slice bread after it is released? People are expecting perfection and
the extraordinary. I'm waiting to learn about actual end user
experiences beyond a scripted demonstration or from the favored people
KNFB decided to allow to interact with the app.

2014-08-30 Thread Kelly Pierce
I am not expecting this app to be as good as K1000 with a high quality
flatbed document scanner. Taking a picture of a document 12 to 18
inches above it does not yield the same image quality with a camera
millimeters from the document surface that is completely flat and lit
with a bright light again millimeters from the document surface.
Further, the user likely will not hold the camera at exactly 180
degrees from the document, as it will take the image with the phone
being held in the hand. Some are expecting perfection or results that
are better from software 10 times the price or with equipment 10 to 20
times the price. KNFB is not claiming this level of accuracy and
reliability nor can it really. It is the limitation of the technology.
The company says it will deliver performance equal to or greater than
that of the original KNFB Reader. This technology was widely praised
at the time, but it was unaffordable to many. Now, the price point has
been dramatically lowered. If it can match or better the performance
of the original KNFB reader without using a stand or an external
lighting source, the app will be worth it to me and I suspect many
other people. I would like to read signs as I travel and hope the app
does this effectively.

I am waiting until the product release before analyzing any more
information from the company. At the NFB convention, Jim Gashel said
the app would support the iPhone 4s in response to a question. Now,
it seems the company says the app will only support the iPhone 5
series and iPhone 6. I can imagine that final beta testing revealed
that the processor on the 4s did not deliver reasonable enough
performance. Yet, the company has now walked back from promised
product functionality.

No one should compare free hand scanning with a flatbed scanner. That is like
comparing apples and oranges.
However, if one uses a stand for the iPhone like either the Giraffe Reader or
the Standscan, then you can get equal results with Prizmo as with a flatbed
scanner; i.e. 100 percent accuracy if the printed document is extremely good.

The true comparison will come when someone uses Prizmo or TextGrabber and the
KNFB Reader app free hand.

Now go to the very bottom of the page and arrow up until you find where it
says how you receive your messages, press enter on that and select to
receive no email updates from the list of options. When you are done don't
forget to find the Save button at the bottom and activate it.

I am using A Windows 7 laptop with Internet Explorer 11 and Jaws 15. It
seems Jaws doesn't read the My Settings button although it has done so in
the past. In any case, it's the one right after the one Jaws reads as
Filters button menu. For me it's the sixth button on the page if you start
at the very top and use the buttons quick navigation key which is b in
Jaws.

Hi Richard.

Thank you for the information.

I have looked at their site, it looks interesting. Do you know if braille is
supported? It ought to be, but when using ATT, speech it could be without
braille support.

Best regards Annie.

No one should compare free hand scanning with a flatbed scanner. That is
 like comparing apples and oranges.

$50 for some sort of stand like the Standscan or even more in the case of
the Giraffe, to make it possible to take the best picture possible. Add that
up and a lot of people have already spend $50 to $70 or $80 and compared to
that KNFB Reader is not so much more. I too bought a Standscan, but while I
might use it here and there at home, I just can't be bothered to bring it
with me. For me being able to take good pictures and get good results free

this for at least 10% or even 20% less by buying a discounted iTunes gift

If you need to set your default outgoing address, such as for mailing lists,
you can do that on iOS. Go to settings, mail contacts and calendars, double tap
the button for your email account, and find the send mail from option. I
don't have an iOS7 device here at the moment to check with, so there may be one
more layer before you can find the setting you're after, but you will at least
be in the right place.

Hi all,

I'm shopping for a speaker for my iDevices computers, which will primarily
be for our living room. I initially set out to buy an airplay speaker, but
it occurred to me, we constantly struggle with great WIFI connectivity in
our house. We don't have drop outs, but I see the signal fluctuate quite a
bit. I'm thinking this may result in disappointing airplay audio.

So, does bluetooth audio really sound that different? Up until now, we have
mostly used docks /or 3.5mm connectivity for music.

Thanks for the advice. My next email will be about 2 speakers I'm debating
between. :)

Can you go back to a previous version of IOS

2014-08-30 Thread Pinky
Hi Group,

I told a person I know on another email group list that you cannot go back
to a previous version of IOS. He has version IOS 7.1.2 and he wants to go
back to IOS7.1.1. My understanding is you cannot do this. Let me know if I
am correct or not.

Thanks in advance.

Yet, the company has now walked back from promised
product functionality.

information from the company.

If KNFB Reader's ability to guide the user to take good pictures works as
advertised then in my opinion it's worth the price. Don't forget many on the
list have paid $15 to $20 for 2 or 3 different OCR apps and another $30 to
$50 for some sort of stand like the Standscan or even more in the case of
the Giraffe, to make it possible to take the best picture possible. Add that
up and a lot of people have already spend $50 to $70 or $80 and compared to
that KNFB Reader is not so much more. I too bought a Standscan, but while I
might use it here and there at home, I just can't be bothered to bring it
with me. For me being able to take good pictures and get good results free
hand is definitely worth $99 especially since I explained how one can get
this for at least 10% or even 20% less by buying a discounted iTunes gift
card. With back to school they should be around.

For 99 bucks, it would have to blow everything else out of the water 6 ways

 to Sunday.
