Re: College Football
Tune in radio also has tons of college football this year. Way more than they've had in the past. You just need to make sure that the teams you like are among the teams they carry. I'm sure others will tell you about other apps I own that you don't have to subscribe to, and they are some good ones, but you take a chance that none of the radio streams offered in those apps will work on all games. I really like college, football, and try to get as many options to listen as I can even if it requires several different apps to get what I want. Hope this helps. Running them down can be somewhat challenging since I think the app name might have changed along the way. They have both a free and $1.99 version of the app and it works by letting the player pick whether they want to guess artist or song and then pick from among a variety of music genres. You get one genre free to start with but you have to earn more coins with which to buy other genres. The music presented comes from the iTunes library so you'll need a wi-fi connection to play the game. You get 30 seconds to hear the song clip and you pick an answer from a multiple choice of 4. I find the game very entertaining. RE: 10% discount of $50 iTunes cards at 7-Eleven in Canada
Don't forget too, many supermarkets in the U.S. offer gasoline discounts for purchases. These purchases include gift cards, so buying your iTunes card will get you something off gas. I don't know if it amounts to much in the short-term. Even if your family doesn't drive, giving those discounts to those who do provide you transportation will be much appreciated. Also, quite often BestBuy includes card discounts in their weekly sales ads. These were not ideas I had considered until Siegard mentioned it the other day, so again many thanks to him! Not sure if the same promotion exists in the States, maybe somebody there can check it. Last year at the end of July somebody told me they had a 20% discount on $50 cards so I bought 4 cards for $120, but had a $150 value. Now I have about $54 left from that $150 balance and I do plan to buy KNFB Reader when it comes out so I am going to pick up another $50 card today for the discounted price. This way my balance will be back up to about $104, enough for KNFB Reader which they announced will be $99. If I factor in what I paid for these cards, I will end up paying about $85 for the app. Anybody who plans to buy the app might as well grab 2 $50 cards and pay $90 for them, still a 10% discount. BTW, I could toss in the ue boom mini, but I wasn't sure if it was in the same league as the other 2. Why not avoid all the goofs who download the app right after release, don’t upgrade properly, and then complain about the app not preforming properly. Releasing after iOS 8 would encourage folks to install on top of the new iOS rather than the old one. From a marketing perspective, many people in North America and Europe are on vacation in August, going back to school, or otherwise tuned out. This weekend, Chicago has its jazz festival. The last thing I want to do is learn a new iPhone app on one of the last warm weekends of summer. I agree with Sieghard, the KNFB folks likely ran out of runway and needed to abort take off on the timeframe announced in early July, causing us to speculate needlessly on why this company cannot properly meet its commitments. This app has been hyped beyond belief. Will it slice bread after it is released? People are expecting perfection and the extraordinary. I’m waiting to learn about actual end user experiences beyond a scripted demonstration or from the favored people KNFB decided to allow to interact with the app. Kelly On 8/29/14, Sieghard Weitzel siegh...@live.ca wrote: Hi Jonathan, Correct, from what I heard iOS 8 is expected to be released to the public on Wednesday, September 17 followed by the iPhone 6 on Friday the 19th. I also heard rumours now that an iWatch may be announced on the 9th as well. Maybe the expected 13 Megapixel iPhone 6 camera which is rumoured to actually protrude a bit beyond the thickness of the phone along with these under the hood changes will make KNFB Reader on an iPhone 6 even better, but that certainly is not a reason why the app can't be released for the 5S with iOS 7 unless they are just not ready to release it to the public in which case they should just say so. Apple's event is on the 9th. If Apple's past timetable is followed, and they have been very consistent in recent years, the Gold master of iOS 8 will be released to developers right after the presentation. That gives developers a few days to find absolute show stoppers, and they would have to be absolutely huge, for any change to be made. The iOS itself is released about a week later. That would make iOS 8 release day the 17th. One possible reason for KNFB delaying the release is if they are using some of the cool new APIs in 8. Alan, I know you are a big fan of the Bose sound link or something like that. My problem with the Bose products is that they have too much bass, and the highs are not bright enough for my ear. If KNFB Reader's ability to guide the user to take good pictures works as advertised then in my opinion it's worth the price. Don't forget many on the list have paid $15 to $20 for 2 or 3 different OCR apps and another $30 to $50 for some sort of stand like the Standscan or even more in the case of the Giraffe, to make it possible to take the best picture possible. Add that up and a lot of people have already spend $50 to $70 or $80 and compared to that KNFB Reader is not so much more. I too bought a Standscan, but while I might use it here and there at home, I just can't be bothered to bring it with me. For me being able to take good pictures and get good results free hand is definitely worth $99 especially since I explained how one can get this for at least 10% or even 20% less by buying a discounted iTunes gift card. Re: UE Boom VS Bose soundlink mini
Hello Don, nice to hear from you again. It's been awhile. I hope all is well with you. To answer your question, in sounds, music, you'll find an equalizer. You can use this wile music is playing to adjust the sound to suit your own taste. There are presets you can use or just the sliders. There is no right or wrong here. Your two ears will tell you when the sound is the way you like it. So, if you want less real deep bass, you can cut it. If your like me and over the years you have lost the ability to hear the really high sounds like the sizzle of a ride symbol, you can boost that to get the sound you like. There are other tools here as well such as volume limit, sound check and more. The sound check goes through your music library and can level the songs so that there are no audio surprises such as one song playing to loud and another to soft. RE: Light detector apps?
In my opinion, the best one used to be an app called believe it or not, Light Detector but the latest upgrade of that app actually seemed to be less sensitive in my opinion. The other app I have is Seeing Assistant Light, note that's l I g h t and not to be confused with l I t e which is a different suite of apps from the same company. I find this one to be the best I have tried so far and it works great on things like flashing LEDs actually making a sound that indicates that the LED is flashing as opposed to steady. And, this one is actually free or at least it was when I grabbed it. Best regards, Rick Alfaro -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of RobH. RE: knfb reader
Hi Alan. I have 2 AirPlay compatible printers, one is an HP multi-function inkjet, and the other is an HP LaserJet 1102w. They both work very well but I use the LaserJet more often because it’s cheaper per page and I don’t care about color, just good print. Re: knfb reader
I am not expecting this app to be as good as K1000 with a high quality flatbed document scanner. Taking a picture of a document 12 to 18 inches above it does not yield the same image quality with a camera millimeters from the document surface that is completely flat and lit with a bright light again millimeters from the document surface. Further, the user likely will not hold the camera at exactly 180 degrees from the document, as it will take the image with the phone being held in the hand. Some are expecting perfection or results that are better from software 10 times the price or with equipment 10 to 20 times the price. KNFB is not claiming this level of accuracy and reliability nor can it really. It is the limitation of the technology. The company says it will deliver performance equal to or greater than that of the original KNFB Reader. This technology was widely praised at the time, but it was unaffordable to many. Now, the price point has been dramatically lowered. If it can match or better the performance of the original KNFB reader without using a stand or an external lighting source, the app will be worth it to me and I suspect many other people. I would like to read signs as I travel and hope the app does this effectively. I am waiting until the product release before analyzing any more information from the company. At the NFB convention, Jim Gashel said the app would support the iPhone 4s in response to a question. Now, it seems the company says the app will only support the iPhone 5 series and iPhone 6. I can imagine that final beta testing revealed that the processor on the 4s did not deliver reasonable enough performance. Yet, the company has now walked back from promised product functionality. RE: knfb reader
No one should compare free hand scanning with a flatbed scanner. That is like comparing apples and oranges. However, if one uses a stand for the iPhone like either the Giraffe Reader or the Standscan, then you can get equal results with Prizmo as with a flatbed scanner; i.e. 100 percent accuracy if the printed document is extremely good. The true comparison will come when someone uses Prizmo or TextGrabber and the KNFB Reader app free hand. Re: knfb reader
Hi Richard. Thank you for the information. I have looked at their site, it looks interesting. Do you know if braille is supported? It ought to be, but when using ATT, speech it could be without braille support. Best regards Annie. Den 30/08/2014 kl. 20.32 skrev Richard Turner rich...@turner42.com: No one should compare free hand scanning with a flatbed scanner. Kelly On 8/30/14, Sieghard Weitzel siegh...@live.ca wrote: If KNFB Reader's ability to guide the user to take good pictures works as advertised then in my opinion it's worth the price. Re: ICloud mail
If you need to set your default outgoing address, such as for mailing lists, you can do that on iOS. Go to settings, mail contacts and calendars, double tap the button for your email account, and find the send mail from option. I don't have an iOS7 device here at the moment to check with, so there may be one more layer before you can find the setting you're after, but you will at least be in the right place. Can you go back to a previous version of IOS
Hi Group, I told a person I know on another email group list that you cannot go back to a previous version of IOS. He has version IOS 7.1.2 and he wants to go back to IOS7.1.1. My understanding is you cannot do this. Let me know if I am correct or not. Thanks in advance. Ed -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list.
