RE: I Strongly Recommend The Plantronics Voyager Edge Bluetooth Single-Ear Headset

2015-02-08 Thread M. Taylor
Hi Sieghard,

To answer your question, Yes, there is a Play/Pause button that allows
starting and stopping of streaming audio. In fact, one of the reasons why I
decided to purchase a new Bluetooth headset is because my Jabra Extreme 2 lacks
such a button.

The Play/Pause button is referred to as the Voice button in the Edge user
manual and is located on the arm of the boom mike.

When the proximity sensors are enabled, merely placing the Edge in your ear
will automatically cause streaming to be routed to it while removing it from
your ear will automatically send audio streaming back to the iOS device. The
same is true when on a call.

Take it from me, this is one world-class device.

Mark,

Is there a Play/Pause button which would allow you to pause and resume playback
with apps like Audible, Downcast and so on? I have a Jabra Supreme and like it
even though it's not exactly small, but I would never buy another bluetooth
earpiece which didn't offer the ability to play/pause what I might be listening
to as I am walking around at home or out and about.

Subject: I Strongly Recommend The Plantronics Voyager Edge Bluetooth Single-Ear
Headset

Hello Everyone,

After all of the comments regarding the Voyager Legend headset, I decided to
purchase a new Bluetooth headset, also.

Because of a couple of things I don't like about the Legend, for example the
proprietary charging connection, I decided to go with the Voyager Edge.

I love this device. It is absolutely the most comfortable and responsive
Bluetooth device I've owned, to date. I have owned and used no fewer than
18 Bluetooth headset devices since 2007. The Edge builds on the Legend's
outstanding performance but returns to some industry standard protocols, for
example, the original charging cable connection. Like the Legend, it does have
a hardware on and off button.

What I really like about the Edge is that one can disable some of the features
of the device, for instance, the auto Answer/Reject prompts. There have been
many times when I was talking to someone when a call came in and the headset,
not a Plantronics, would automatically interpret my last spoken word as answer.

Below I am pasting in a short cNet review of the Edge at the bottom of which
you will find the URL to the review, itself.

Please note that the review was written almost a year ago. The reason I
mention this is that it states that the Edge cannot get 7 hours of talk time,
as can the Legend. However, this is no longer true. The unit I just purchased
gets over 7 hours of talk time.

Also, the Edge now ships with an over-the-ear loop and soft ear-jell tips.

In short, I would strongly recommend anyone who is in the market for a high
performance blindness-friendly single-ear Bluetooth headset device consider the
Voyager Edge.

Mark

cNet Review:
The Good The Plantronics Voyager Edge packs outstanding call quality and noise
cancellation. The headset is also light, comfortable to wear, and compact for a
boom-style device. The Edge comes with a handy battery case for protection and
charging on the go.

The Bad The Voyager Edge's ear tips don't form a tight audio seal and take some
fiddling to position properly.

The Bottom Line The Plantronics Voyager Edge's impressive hands-free call
quality and sleek size makes it a smarter buy than the fashionable Jawbone Era.

Equipped with support for multiple languages, aggressive noise cancellation and
a host of other advanced communication skills, the $129.99 Voyager Edge
represents Plantronics' latest stab at a high-tech tool for mobile voice chat.
It sits alongside the company's popular Voyager Legend ($99.99), another
premium hands-free product. Additionally, the Edge replaces the Discovery 975SE
which was crafted to be as sleek as possible without sacrificing call quality.

Indeed despite it's compact size, the Edge uses the same impressive audio
system as its big brother the Voyager Legend. This includes three discrete
microphones and a boom arm to better pick up the words you say. The result is
sound transmission that's equal to the Legend and cleaner than its chief
competitor, the bite-sized Jawbone Era 2014 ($129). Of course the Edge can't
match the Legend's 7-hour talk time or the Era's ultra-discreet de

Design
Continuing where the 975SE left off, the fresh Voyager Edge has the same
distinctive diamond-shaped body. Relatively compact, the Edge sports a long,
thin boom, too,

Unless the apps are already within a folder you will have to move them one at
a time.

  1. move to the app you wish to move then shift+vo+m to start the move command

  2. go to the page and folder you wish that app to reside in and then with
quicknav on press the up down arrows at the same time to drop into that folder

to move a folder to another page use the move command on the folder, go to
the new page, use the move command on top of any folder.

to move an app to another page without creating a folder; use the move

2015-02-08 Thread Wren Langley
Hi all, I just learned this and thought I would share. When you buy an
electronic device if it is cold, bring the device home and take it out of the
box. Set it on something that is not metal, and leave it for an hour so that it
can come up to room temperature. Once the hour is up it is pretty safe to plug
the computer the device in and then charge it. If you charge it before it comes
up to room temperature there could be damage caused from condensation or the
item being too cold. This can sometimes damage or kill your device. God bless,

Hi Barry, I used a similar Phonak streamer product and rejected it for iPhone

RE: A question about upgrading from the iPhone-4S to the iPhone-6+.

2015-02-08 Thread Alan Lemly
Liz,

As someone else posted, I don't think the order really matters. I got a new
iPhone 6 last week and had this same issue. I used iTunes to do an encrypted
backup of my old iPhone which was an ATT phone to be able to restore it to
my new Verizon phone. I powered on the new phone by connecting it to my
computer with its cable and immediately pressed the triple click home button
to turn VoiceOver on. At that point, I didn't do anything else with respect
to activating the phone.

I then ran iTunes and restored my encrypted backup and also upgraded to the
latest iOS 8.1.3 since the phone came with 8.1.2. After doing this iTunes
showed no phone number for my new phone so I had to then go through the rest
of the activation steps with the phone and that worked fine.

If I had to do it over again, I'd probably go through all the new phone
activation steps first because I think at some point it asks if you are
setting up a new device or restoring from a backup at which point I would do
the restore. But as I said, in the end, it didn't matter since my phone is
working great and everything was restored.

Good luck.

Re: Hearing Aids and iPhone 6+

2015-02-08 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi Barry, I used a similar Phonak streamer product and rejected it for iPhone
listening for the reasons you mention. Most hearing aids will also take a
direct audio input cable which gets rid of these issues. As well as better
latency and the audio from the iPhone being always on, a direct audio input
cable uses much less battery.

The older devices from Phonak would drop the Bluetooth connection if the audio
stopped for a couple of seconds.

Apparently they got enough complaints, including mine, that the newer ones will
stay active for a couple of minutes.

Hi Flor, not really. Hashtags are user driven. Anyone can start/invent one just
by putting one in a tweet. So they tend to just have a life of their own. Best
thing is to look at people you follow to see who they follow, that way you can
fine-tune your Twitter stream to get the kind of content you want.

Re: FYI when you bring a new computer or iPhone or other electronic device home how to keep it safe

2015-02-08 Thread Ben Mustill-Rose
Hi,

For what it's worth there is actually some merrit behind this advice.
Remember that changes in temperature cause things to expand /
contract. If we look at a chip that's been soldered onto a PCB for
example, leaving the device containing said PCB in a cold environment
for an extended period of time may cause the PCB to become slightly
deformed, which may result in one of the legs of the chip not making
an overly good connection, in turn causing the device to malfunction.

Cheers,
Ben.

Hi all, I just learned this and thought I would share. When you buy an
electronic device if it is cold, bring the device home and take it out of
the box. Set it on something that is not metal, and leave it for an hour so

that it can come up to room temperature. Once the hour is up it is pretty
safe to plug the computer the device in and then charge it. If you charge it

before it comes up to room temperature there could be damage caused from
condensation or the item being too cold. This can sometimes damage or kill
your device. God bless, Wren Langley

2015-02-08 Thread Charles Rivard
It may offer headings and other features that a text file does not, but it
is not as accessible to all. Adobe is difficult to use with a screen
reader, or needs a lot of modification to be usable. With a
straightforward, no frills text file, anyone can read it.

I beg to differ here. A properly made PDF file is perfectly accessible and
offers features like headings, links and so on which you don't get with a
text file. Also, you can't accidently change stuff in it.

RE: Hearing Aids and iPhone 6+

2015-02-08 Thread Tony
My 4s is continuously connected to the Phonex ComPilot and seems pretty
responsive. I don’t know if the small latency is the iPhone or the Bluetooth
link.

Using the Phonak TV block with my computer it seems as responsive as listening
to the computer speakers directly.

Hi Barry, I used a similar Phonak streamer product and rejected it for iPhone
listening for the reasons you mention. Most hearing aids will also take a
direct audio input cable which gets rid of these issues. As well as better
latency and the audio from the iPhone being always on, a direct audio input
cable uses much less battery.

are in a room with an echo. But if you are listening to a book or music and
mute your hearing Aids microphones it's not bad. It is the open microphones
that cause the echo effect I think. You can also quickly push a button to
activate Siri and if you hold it in for a second it will dial the last number.
What I don't like is that the hearing aids change programs so if an alert comes
through you get a series of beeps and the mode switches. This switching of
modes with the consequential beeps seems to cut out the Siri tone. The remote
connects by low power bluetooth and hangs around the neck. It also has a
standard jack for plugging in a patch chord to connect with other devices. It
also controls the programs and volume on the Hearing Aids.

The key to making sure that you can hear VoiceOver is to have the Audiologists
check the music mode.

There are two iPhone apps Connect Line used for connecting your Streamer and
Oticon Streamer The Streamer app allows me to set the modes as well but I did
not know about it when I first got these Hearing Aids.

Have a great day.

buttons (or I didn't) until I'd located a button at the top left, which I think
says Add so you can work your way through and make a file of your own. Once

then flicking a couple of times.

Hope this helps.

Not all email providers support push. Where they do not, then your fetch
settings apply. So it could be you're using an email provider that doesn't
support push, and your fetch settings are set to manual rather than a specific

RE: fetching mail with the iphone

2015-02-08 Thread Cristóbal
This is why I use the separate Gmail app for the push notifications and use the
native mail app for actually dealing with emails. I would assume that push
would work with the new Outlook app, but haven’t played with it to say. Maybe
someone else whose set their gmail account with the Outlook app can weigh in. I
do know that exchange with the native mail app works fine.

I thought push doesn’t work with gmail. You have to set a schedule to fetch

RE: FYI when you bring a new computer or iPhone or other electronic device home how to keep it safe

2015-02-08 Thread Tony
This was about 15 years ago and I had heard it from several sources, Kim
Komando for one.

I tried half an hour with no success then tried an hour. The drive was in a
ziploc bag to limit condensation. I had a fan on it when connected for the
same reason.

I also had a system in my garage that got very cold at times. It took up to
two hours to boot when the temp was down. I tried to leave it on all the time.

While this is generally true, I once had a hard drive that wouldn't work until
it had been the freezer for an hour.

Needless to say I copied the data from it as soon as I could. Had to freeze it
a few times to get it all.

Hi,

For what it's worth there is actually some merrit behind this advice.
Remember that changes in temperature cause things to expand / contract. If we
look at a chip that's been soldered onto a PCB for example, leaving the device
containing said PCB in a cold environment for an extended period of time may
cause the PCB to become slightly deformed, which may result in one of the legs
of the chip not making an overly good connection, in turn causing the device to
malfunction.

Cheers,
Ben.

Hi all, I just learned this and thought I would share. When you buy an
electronic device if it is cold, bring the device home and take it out
of the box. Set it on something that is not metal, and leave it for an
 hour so

that it can come up to room temperature. Once the hour is up it is
pretty safe to plug the computer the device in and then charge it. If
 you charge it

before it comes up to room temperature there could be damage caused
from condensation or the item being too cold. This can sometimes
damage or kill your device. God bless, Wren Langley

Hi all, I just learned this and thought I would share. When you buy an
electronic device if it is cold, bring the device home and take it out of

that it can come up to room temperature. Once the hour is up it is pretty

should. So I ask for someone's source rather than looking through Google,

IMHO, you should use multiple sources. For example, you can google and
then use common sense to pluck out the accurate information. Googling on
KNFB Reader and the iPhone 4S brings up sources like the KNFB Reader

trust. Links to posts on other lists, blog articles, tweats and so on

I agree. But saying that you heard something from various sources is how
rumors get started, and the best way to prevent the spreading of
misinformation, whether intentional or not, and I'm sure that it was not in

Hi all, I just learned this and thought I would share. When you buy an
electronic device if it is cold, bring the device home and take it
out of
the box. Set it on something that is not metal, and leave it for an
hour so

that it can come up to room temperature. Once the hour is up it is
pretty
safe to plug the computer the device in and then charge it. If you

2015-02-08 Thread Kerri Kosten
Hi Andy:

This was the problem exactly!!
I unmuted the mic, and tried making a call, and the person could hear
me just fine!
Thanks for the help and letting me know about this muting the mic thing!!
Alan, unfortunately, I have no idea about the inserts as I just got
mine a few days ago.
I would just search on walmart.com or target.com or bestbuy.com for
Plantronics inserts or something like that.
I can't imagine they would be that much.
Hope this helps you.
Thanks,
Kerri

Re: adding locations to Weather Radio - Re: My apologies, I figured out how to how to add the location for W DT weather radio

2015-02-08 Thread Mary Anne Lynskey

Charles, I just tried it and it works fine for me. The add location is
at bottom of screen and opens a new window where the edit box is. Hope
you get it working. If not, maybe phone needs voice over turned off and
on again, or reboot or a hard reboot. Sometimes I find that after not
being turned off for a long time, like days, i need to restart the
iPhone to get things rolling again.

Hi, I am sorry for the late reply, but I just found your message. When
you first open the app you will see your current location then if you
flip to the right you will see the next location if you added one the
next I think is maps and then something else oh purchase lightning and
then add location this is done by continuing to flip to the right
there also I believe two other buttons which are share and settings.
Double tap the ad locations button, then there is a search button, and
you can type in here whatever location you want by typing in the name
of the location or your ZIP Code. I need the ZIP Code of the location
you want. After you add the location and go back to your main screen
you will find a select button that is near your first location which
would be your current location. Press by double tapping the select
button it will show the new location you just added there is also a
save button after you add the location. You should be told that you
added the location successfully once you save it then after that you
hit the select button on your main screen and your new location will
show up. Please let me know how you make out just double ta

Re: Sending Mail When Away From Home

2015-02-08 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I'm not familiar with this email provider, but it looks like it might be
your INTERNET provider as well. If so, you may be using an internal SMTP
server when your connected to your wireless which you can't get to when
you're not connected to the INTERNET through this provider. Check out
your providers web site to see if they have some instructions on how to
send email when you're not at home. The page at
https://iihelp.iinet.net.au/Email_Settings might help, but like I said,
I'm not familiar with this provider.
