RE: App Store Issues

2016-10-04 Thread Alan Lemly
My point was that I've experienced search issues of short-term duration in the
Apps Store across many iOS versions. These are no doubt temporary Apps Store
hiccups which I'm sure many of us have encountered. Obviously, you're having a
consistent search issue with the Apps Store and iOS 10 so perhaps something is
amiss with it and the latest iOS version. I would think that bugs would be more
consistent across all iOS 10 users but I realize that isn't always the case.
Hopefully, apple will address the issue you're experiencing in a future update.

That's how it's supposed to be behaving. When you reply to a message, it keeps
you in that thread so you can monitor if someone sends you a message in that

Hi,

Can you let us know the steps you are using to get there?

I go to Settings, General, VoiceOver, speech. I then tap on the language, the
default voice is shown, I tap on it. This opens a dialog showing the available
voices. There is a Play Sample button next to each available voice. Clicking
this button plays the sample.

If this doesn't work, I don't know what else to suggest.

Cheers Brett.

  Hi,

You need to download the high quality voice, but you can try the low quality
voice without downloading anything.

Remember you first need to switch to that language first, so it gets loaded
when you tap on it.

  Cheers Brett.

Thanks to all for their ideas/explanations, etc. If I am understanding
correctly, if I actually turn off the SE, when I turn it back on I will
not be able to make phone calls until the actual code is entered. I
guess I'll have to learn how to do that. I was also thrown gby the SE
not starting right back up when I plugged it in. That is certainly good
to know. I did find out that the SE will receive calls while it is
locked. I called it from our house phone.

Thanks again for helping me through this learning experience.

Hi Nancy,

I just wanted to clarify a couple of points. The phone actually does not
automatically go into Low Power Mode. If you use the phone you get a low
battery warning at 20% and at 10%, with each of these warnings which pop up on
the screen whenever you unlock your phone and it is at one of these levels, you
have the option to just close the warning or to put the phone in low power
mode. Even with the phone in low power mode you can still receive and make
phone calls and all that, but the phone does disable some things which consume
battery such as push email (if you have it set up), it locks quicker and so on.
You can always check your battery level by touching the status bar at the top
on the very right side or, if you touch in the middle where the time is, just
flick right a couple of times and you will get to the battery level readout,
Voiceover will say your battery level in percent.

As Donald said, if your phone shuts down due to low battery and it then reboots
when it's charging, you do have to enter your passcode before Touch Id works
again. Whenever you set up the phone and if you set up Touch Id you would have
selected either a 4-digit or 6-digit passcode.

Lastly, if the phone shuts down because it runs out of battery, it can take
several minutes after you plug it in before it starts back up. It is not like a
laptop or other electronic device which after it is plugged in you can
immediately start up again. However, once plugged in Voiceover should come back
after a couple of minutes or, if it was rreally dead, it could take maybe up to
5 minutes.

Best regards,
Sieghard

Hi Nancy, to cover some of your questions, the phone would have shut down when
down that much, so you have to put in your password before again being able to
use your thumb print.

When the phone is that low, it goes to a low power mode which means that not
everything works.

Since I listen to my New York sports teams on the phone, it's real easy to
discharge the battery pretty much, so I try to remember to plug it in when I
head off to bed.

Subject: My SE quit...what do I do?

Hi All,

This morning I was talking with a friend...for a couple of hours...and all of a
sudden my phone died. I know that yesterday morning it was down to about 40%
and I used it several times yesterday and my friend called this morning.

At least once in the past the SE has told me that I needed to recharge it and
that was at 20%.

While we were talking, I didn't hear SE say to recharge, but I do remember a
sort of different sound. We kept talking and before too long,

SE just up and quit.

I plugged it in and nothing happened. Siri would not answer me. I used the
on/off button on the top right...and be ore long SE started making noises.
Siri would still not speak to me. I tried using my thumb print ID to get
started again, but no luck. It kept asking for my password.

How do I know when the phone needs to be recharged before it just quits?

Did that strange noise I heard mean 'recharge me'?

Since I use the phone only for making and answering calls, why do I need to
enter a password that I have no idea how to enter?

Please help.

Many thanks,

Nancy

RE: replying to a text from the locked screen

2016-10-04 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Paula,

Yes, flicking up on a text message notification will offer the option to reply
to the message. The thing is, for whatever reason, in iOS 10.x, this option is
now labeled as More.

So, when you receive a text notification, flick up until VoiceOver says
something like, “More”. Select that and then you can enter your text to reply.

RE: replying to a text from the locked screen

2016-10-04 Thread Edmonds, Lucy (LARA)
Yes, that does work, but I think it's still different than iOS 9, at least on
my phone. It used to be that when you flicked up to reply to a text on the
locked screen and then double-tapped, you were inside the message but not in
the actual message app. Now when you do it, you end up in the app itself when
you send the message; before you would not actually go into the message app.

It's been a long day; I'm rambling!

RE: My SE quit...what do I do?

2016-10-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Nancy

Nope, I don’t think so. I used to do that with iOS 9 and I liked it! Can’t

Having trouble ordering an iPhone

2016-10-04 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi all,

I was just using the apple store app to order myself a new phone. I
got most of the way through the process, but when it asks for account
details I'm getting the message that the phone number does not match
the billing zipcode or social security number. I know the information
is correct, but am I getting this error because I am not the account
owner? My husband is listed as the account owner so it is his ssn that
is associated with the account. But the phone number is different,
obviously. So can someone help me out here?

This process is making me feel dumb. Hahaha.

Thanks,
Kimberly

RE: My SE quit...what do I do?

2016-10-04 Thread Donald Moore
Hi Nancy, to cover some of your questions, the phone would have shut down when
down that much, so you have to put in your password before again being able to
use your thumb print.

When the phone is that low, it goes to a low power mode which means that not
everything works.

Since I listen to my New York sports teams on the phone, it's real easy to
discharge the battery pretty much, so I try to remember to plug it in when I
head off to bed.

At least once in the past the SE has told me that I needed to recharge it and

While we were talking, I didn't hear SE say to recharge, but I do
remember a sort of different sound. We kept talking and before too long,

SE just up and quit.

I plugged it in and nothing happened. Siri would not answer me. I used
the on/off button on the top right...and be ore long SE started making
noises. Siri would still not speak to me. I tried using my thumb print
ID to get started again, but no luck. It kept asking for my password.

How do I know when the phone needs to be recharged before it just quits?

Did that strange noise I heard mean 'recharge me'?

Once you install the app, you can sign in very easily on your phone. You do
not specify which device you are using. You have signed up for two devices.
What that means is that two devices can be online at the same time. You can
have netflix on as many devices as you wish. It only means that two devices
can be active at once. If you need any more help, let me know.

roger problem

2016-10-04 Thread Afik Sofir
Hello,

I have a problem with Roger version 205 for the Iphone.

I don't know if its relates to voiceOver or not, but anyway, just write here
that I'm blind user. I CC to this message also the VIphone list that maybe
more blind people have this problem.

When trying to connect Alexa to roger, I typing my amazon credentials, and
then double tap on "log in," its quit me out from roger.

I really don't know why and what to do.

Afik.

RE: Netflix

2016-10-04 Thread Terrie Terlau
Thanks to those who reply to Bill. I am in the same boat with NetFlicks. I want
to set up an account and download described movies/shows on my iPhone, but am
so very out of my depth about how to do so.
Please reply to the list instead of to Bill only. Thank you, Bill, for asking
this question. I felt too embarrassed and overwhelmed to ask.
Best,
Terrie Terlau

I have a couple questions on getting started with Netflix.

I have the app on my iPhone 5S with iOS 10 but have not yet set up the account.
Given the issues we have encountered with form fields in the app store, are
there any such problems with setting up a Netflix account? Would I be better
off setting it up from my Windows laptop and then logging in there or on my
phone.

If I'm not mistaken there is a plan that allws use of two devices. Do I have
to specify what I am using when I set up the account, or do I just log in from
either the phone or computer, depending on which I wish to use.

I want to get this first step done, and then we'll talk about how to actually
use the service.

Re: Netflix

2016-10-04 Thread Candy Lowe
Once you install the app, you can sign in very easily on your phone. You do
not specify which device you are using. You have signed up for two devices.
What that means is that two devices can be online at the same time. You can
have netflix on as many devices as you wish. It only means that two devices
can be active at once. If you need any more help, let me know.

You should check to see if you have the compact or enhanced Samantha. To me,
the enhanced sounds distorted, and this usually downloads automatically when
updating. This is in settings, voice over, and speech.

Take care,

Re: Voice speech samples.

2016-10-04 Thread Brett
