Re: free online tv services

2019-06-13 Thread Arlene
Sieghard, I didn't find out about the signing in right away, and then I did
notice it, and I was thinking about signing in. I hessitated, for 2 reasons,
for one thing at the time I was pretty tired, and the other reason was the idea
of having to sign up for just one more thing, but part of me is curious. So
with my curiosity, I'll go sign up with the page and see if I could get the
shows to play, and I'll write back here and let all of you know.

Also, there is Tubie TV, which is much more accessible, and has a lot

Carrying cash is a different story. When I go to a small business, I

The best barbers here only accept cash. At my barbershop, they even

transaction. I also feel more comfortable handing a cabbie cash in a
new city than hand over a credit card, which could be skimmed. Fees
on cards are expensive. I just gave my neighborhood gym owner several
$100 bills to pay for my gym membership. If I were to use a credit
card, it would cost him about $10. I would rather he receive all of
my money instead of a banker who is doing almost nothing acting as a
middleman. Yes, he has an iPhone and I could zap him the money

the money needs to go from his phone to his personal account then to

Daily necessities are vanishing one by one, thanks to new and efficient
technology. Stamps, maps and cookbooks still exist, but we hardly ever
need

them. Why place a personals ad when you can just "swipe left?"
The standard electronics, gear and ways of yesteryear have vanished as if
it
was never invented at all. As old formats disappear, that leaves us with
the
task of what to do with our memories.
Even services that seem new are vanishing in the name of progress; Apple
is
killing off iTunes, for example. and here's what it means to your music
and

movies.
Here are some rituals that are no longer required in many households. If
you're 40 years or older, you'll probably smile with nostalgia. Share
this

list on social media. Others will enjoy this trip down memory lane too!

1.
Memorize a phone number
Pop quiz: How many phone numbers do you know by heart? Some people don't
even know their spouse's numbers. How times have changed. Now, you tell
your
smart assistant to call someone in your contacts, or you touch their name
on
your phone.
The earliest cellphones required you to transfer your entire directory by
hand, from the old unit to the new one; now, with cloud technology, your
contacts are automatically downloaded.
What happens if you lose your phone, say, at a Disney theme park? This
couple got separated and turned to Facebook for help.

2.
Use a phone book to find a company to do work around your house
Generation Z may not even know what "Yellow Pages" refers to. They may
not

have ever seen a phone book.
Online consumer services like Angie's List and Yelp have made finding
service people easy, plus you can read other users' ratings. One of the
newer ways to find ultra-local services is Nextdoor, which has a special
section for "recommendations," along with crime watches and other local
info.

3.
Sell your car with a cardboard sign stuck on the windshield
Unless you're selling your vehicle to someone you know and trust, these
transactions can get sticky and even a little dangerous, especially with
all
the trolls. Craigslist started more than 20 years ago, and it's still
going

strong, although it, too, still suffers from trolls and weirdos. If you
want
to sell your car, here are three sites that may be better than
Craigslist.

RE: Everyday tasks that few people do anymore because of technology, USA Today

2019-06-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Then there is always the manager, I own a retail store and have a few customers
who also prefer cash even for large ticket items, recently one of them
purchased a $3,000 rifle with cash. I actually like people who use debit cards
the best, the transaction costs me a few cents, but unlike with a credit card
it is not a percentage. Most people don't know this, but at least here in
Canada and in smaller, more remote communities, the banks also charge fees for
cash deposits. I used to wonder why my monthly bank charges were so high and
then asked my bank's manager. He explained that they take in more cash than
they need and it has to be shipped out, of course this happens with a secure
and armed transport and so they charge customers a small percentage as well. As
for the fees, they are part of the cost of doing business nowadays so to me it
makes no difference whether a customer wants to pay cash or use a card. Canada
is actually quite at the forefront when it comes to cashless transactions and
often when we do need a customer to pay cash for something, e.g. we are selling
tickets to an event for somebody and it's cash only, they almost all the time
have to go to the bank first and take cash out because most of them don't even
have $50 on them..
Anyhow, I think while Mark's article was meant well this is definitely not
really on topic for the list any more.

Regards,
Sieghard

I was talking to Evan, one of my two brothers, and he told me that, recently,
when in one of the big retail chains, he was waiting at the counter to pay for
the items he had bought, when the man just ahead of him: a man that Evan
knows: paid, or attempted to do so, for a large ticket items with cash. The
clerk refused it and asked for a credit card.
This guy is well off, and, although he does have a card, he also keeps his
pocket stuffed with cash.
He, the wealthy bloke didn't have his card on him and was going to have to ring
his wife and ask her to bring it to the store, but then my cashPoor but

He knew the rich bloke and knew that he would be repaid, even, perhaps with a

Sorry I don’t usually follow the mailing list so I’m not sure if you guys are
talking about the website I sent a few days ago? If you are there is no app for
that webpage. What you would need to do is find the episode double tap on that
and it brings up two links the link that he would tap is the one that reads you
are something like that then it will load another page and you will see the
button that will say play I hope that helps or that that makes sense

The best barbers here only accept cash. At my barbershop, they even
have an old fashioned cash register that rings a bell with each
transaction.
I would rather he receive all of
my money instead of a banker who is doing almost nothing acting as a
middleman. Yes, he has an iPhone and I could zap him the money
through Apple Pay Cash, but he co-owns the business with a partner so
the money needs to go from his phone to his personal account then to
the business account. With cash, he easily could divvy up the money
without the transfer hassles.

After I give people cash, they remember me and respond positively to
me in the future. This is particularly so after I put a $50 or $100
bill under their nose.

I didn't specifically read they had an app, so possibly they don't have an
app. I was going to search for it in the app store, though I haven't had a
chance to try it yet. I was going to search it as tvdb. It seemsed that I read
somewhere on the web page that you could hear the tv channels on one's ipad or
iphone, so that's part of the reason why I wrote my question concerning
navigating the site. We went on the site by way of the computer and by way of
safari on the phone, and we couldn't figure out how to make the shows play.

Share this
list on social media. Others will enjoy this trip down memory lane too!

1.
Memorize a phone number
Pop quiz: How many phone numbers do you know by heart? Some people don't
even know their spouse's numbers. How times have changed. Now, you tell
your
smart assistant to call someone in your contacts, or you touch their name
on
your phone.
The earliest cellphones required you to transfer your entire directory by

contacts are automatically downloaded.
What happens if you lose your phone, say, at a Disney theme park? This
couple got separated and turned to Facebook for help.

2.
Use a phone book to find a company to do work around your house
Generation Z may not even know what "Yellow Pages" refers to. They may not
have ever seen a phone book.

RE: Deleted apps still showing in settings

Maybe you could ask SIRI real nice and give your iPhone one of your famous
kisses 

OK, joking aside, can you give an example? Is this in the main Settings where
you see a listing for a deleted app?

Hey all. If I go to settings, in the list of apps available for changing
settings include Applications that I have deleted a long back. Is there a way
to delete them from Settings as well?

Re: Everyday tasks that few people do anymore because of technology, USA Today

2019-06-13 Thread Kelly Pierce
I wear a braille wrist watch and carry cash. What does that make me?
I love technology but wish to avoid the blind nerd look of multiple
talking devices with wires coming out of my ears and pockets. A white
clock face with black hands on a vintage 70 year old watch looks hip
by preserving the simplicity of telling time.

Carrying cash is a different story. When I go to a small business, I
pay in cash. Waitresses remember me because I tip them in cash, which
they can keep for themselves. Some service businesses expect cash.
The best barbers here only accept cash. At my barbershop, they even
have an old fashioned cash register that rings a bell with each
transaction.
I would rather he receive all of
my money instead of a banker who is doing almost nothing acting as a
middleman. Yes, he has an iPhone and I could zap him the money
through Apple Pay Cash, but he co-owns the business with a partner so
the money needs to go from his phone to his personal account then to
the business account. With cash, he easily could divvy up the money
without the transfer hassles.

After I give people cash, they remember me and respond positively to
me in the future. This is particularly so after I put a $50 or $100
bill under their nose.

Everyday tasks that few people do anymore because of technology, USA Today

Phone book, what's a phone book? 20 everyday tasks that nobody does anymore

Kim Komando | Special to USA TODAY Updated 6 hours ago
USA TODAY
Daily necessities are vanishing one by one, thanks to new and efficient
technology. Stamps, maps and cookbooks still exist, but we hardly ever need
them. Why place a personals ad when you can just "swipe left?"
The standard electronics, gear and ways of yesteryear have vanished as if it
was never invented at all. As old formats disappear, that leaves us with the
task of what to do with our memories.
Even services that seem new are vanishing in the name of progress; Apple is
killing off iTunes, for example. and here's what it means to your music and
movies.
Here are some rituals that are no longer required in many households. If
you're 40 years or older, you'll probably smile with nostalgia. Share this
list on social media. Others will enjoy this trip down memory lane too!

1.
Memorize a phone number
Pop quiz: How many phone numbers do you know by heart? Some people don't
even know their spouse's numbers. How times have changed. Now, you tell your
smart assistant to call someone in your contacts, or you touch their name on

They may not
have ever seen a phone book.

Unless you're selling your vehicle to someone you know and trust, these
transactions can get sticky and even a little dangerous, especially with all
the trolls. Craigslist started more than 20 years ago, and it's still going
strong, although it, too, still suffers from trolls and weirdos. If you want
to sell your car, here are three sites that may be better than Craigslist.

4.
Figure out math in your head
Few of us ever carried calculators with us to the grocery store. In
contrast, pretty much everyone with a smartphone uses it to do basic
calculations, no matter where or when you need it. In fact, you don't even
have to jab numbers anymore, physical or virtual: Tell Siri to solve a math
problem, or command Alexa to do that pesky long division for you, along with
countless other handy skills.

5.
Call and ask a family member, "Where are you?"
Find My Friends changed the family-safety landscape by geographically
connecting iPhone users. This app was a life-saver for parents with kids,
adults taking care of aging parents, and countless others. Phone Tracker is
a free app for iPhone and Android-powered phones that not only tracks
location but also messaging and web activity.

6.
Tell time by hands on a clock
Like cursive writing, analog clocks may be teetering on extinction. Few
people with smartphones bother with watches anymore, unless they're fashion
statements or fitness trackers. With digital clocks dominating our computers
and hardware, those 12-numeral timepieces may become pure novelties.
Even your trusted alarm clock has received a tech makeover. Click or tap for
three apps that monitor your sleep cycle, and wake you up when you'll feel
the most rested.

7.
Make photo albums
It's hard to imagine printing an image at a one-hour photo store, taking
back your packet of 4x6 snapshots, and then meticulously pasting them into a
faux-leather photo album. Given the ease of digital photography, and the
innumerable images you could produce on a regular day, you'd fill up entire
shelves in no time.
Photo-sharing services like Flickr and Amazon Cloud and have existed for
some years, and now some apps will help you organize your photos and
keepsakes, some of them from well-known companies like CVS and Walgreens.

8.
Have a CD or record collection
Wasn't it cool back in the day to walk into a shabby-chic apartment and see
those shelves of CDs? Wasn't it a joy to flip through boxes of vinyl
records? Napster was the first sign that music could exist as a tiny,

Hello,

You have to turn off the double click side/lock button in settings.

Then it works without any issues.

Re: life simulator app

2019-06-13 Thread Wayne Merritt
Anthony,
Life Simulator is what it sounds like, a game where you can go through
different lives with different characters. I like it because it is
more realistic than other simulation games. I'm not the kind of person
who will get into taking a baby from birth through their whole life,
as in BitLife or other similar games. However, Life Simulator adds in
the factors of work, education, health, love, and vacation for a
balanced life. On the surface, there's one objective: to take a
character from start to finish. However, there are lots of different
scenarios one can play out and many things hinge on one's health,
happiness, and sanity. I've been playing it for about the last week or
so and have really enjoyed it. It is one of the few games that I have
recommended to my sighted wife, and for once, she's still hooked on
it. We're always telling each other how our characters are doing. It
is free to download. There are a number of in-app purchases to enhance
the experience, but it is not necessary to get them to enjoy the game.
The one possible exception would be the perks bundle, which has
different things like increased earnings, faster learning, and others,
that may help when going through the characters's life. Some parts of
the game are not as accessible as they could be, but it is about 90%
accessible with VoiceOver.

Have fun,
Wayne

RE: Great Bluetooth headphones

2019-06-13 Thread Cristobal Muñoz
I actually do this all the time. Usually my Trekz Air or if I’m plugged into my
PC the Trekz Sports with microphone and my Plantronics 5500 earpiece in one
ear.

The Plantronics connected to my business iPhone and the bone conduction ones
either to the PC or my main iPhone.

Kind of like the audio version of picture in picture.

Hi,

Try looking at the Logitech H800 wireless headset. They are Bluetooth and also
have a small nono that you can plug into any pc. They are very light and have
great sound for the price. You can answer phone calls on the iPhone and talk on
Facetime with them. They run about six hours or so on a charge. I have three
sets and have use them for many years with my iPhone and pc.

Hello everyone,

I appreciate that this subject has been brought up. I have been wanting to
purchase some bluetooth earphones.

However, I really don't want to pay a crazy amount. I would like to find
something under $100, that will sound good, and have a great battery life. If
such a thing exist.

I am looking for a pair of over the ear. But I also would consider the kind
that loop around your ear. I am sorry, but I don't know the correct term for
these. I don't really care for ear buds. I can't stand the ones that come with
the iPhone. Those things never stay in my ears. It's rather annoying. LOL!

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated. I have tried looking on Amazon. I
get a bit overwhelmed though. There are so many options.

Thank you,

Terri

Hello,

You have to turn off the double click side/lock button in settings.

Then it works without any issues.

Thank you,

Terri

RE: Greater Voice Controls coming in iOS and Mac 13

2019-06-13 Thread Mr. Ed
Hi,
I believe when I listen to the event and they talked about voice control they
said it was for accessibility for the disabled. They then it was to help people
with limited hand control to voice operate the IOS device. So another words to
allow someone with limited movement or someone who has had a stroke be able to
control the IOS device. That is the way I understood it when I heard it.

I don't know. Hope Apple isn't planning on slowly replacing VoiceOver with this
VoiceControl? I can't realistically see how both features can co-exist, and
work optimally.

It seems like they're trying to extend the accessibility of VoiceOver
(Benefited only the visually impaired community) into something that can
benefit allot more users (Mainly sighted.)

Guess only time will tell how this turns out.

As long as Voice Control does not take anything away from Voice Over, it is
unfortunate that we might not be able to use it, but if it takes something away
from Voice Over, then, big time problem.

Exactly, voice control sounds great, but it would appear that at least parts of
it require sight, e.g. you ask for the grid to come up which displays numbers
on the screen for certain items and you have to be able to see the number which
corresponds to an item. Let's not forget that feature is primarily meant for
people with mobility issues, people who are paralized or can't easily tap and
swipe for whatever reason. Let's also not forget that voice input programs like
Dragon Naturally Speaking always have required users to jump through quite a
few hoops to work with screenreaders. As Harry said, let's wait and see, we
should find out more relatively soon as the first public beta will probably
come out in about 3 weeks give or take a few days. Of course we have to wait
and see if public beta 1 is safe to install especially for those who have only
one device and have to rely on it for daily use. I know, for example, that for
Voiceover users of the first developer beta the app store apparently was
unusable so let's see.

I remember seeing somewhere that you can double press the lock button and it
will hang up a phone call. I believe it works with VoiceOver. There is no
reason why it shouldn’t work.

You would have to give a bit more information as to where you see this, is it

If it is the S O S function be careful not to activate it because this will

RE: Ending a call with Siri?

2019-06-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Thanks for this site. I read the help section, but I don't understand how to
get the shows to play. Thank you if you could explain how to navigate the site.
From what I understood you have to press the lter of the show. I was just
starting out by doing it on the computer. I'm going to see if I could search
for the app since it says you could hear the channels on the iphone. Thank you.

There is a webpage where you can watch TV shows for free. It does not have
descriptive video but everything is free no subscription like Hulu or Netflix.
It is completely accessible. The website is as follows

Hi!

I use Pluto, but the secret is, is to press enter on watch movies and TV
shows at the bottom right of the phone or tablet.

I cannot figure out how to watch channels live either.

It is so much better to just swipe through all the movies and shows, and
double tap on one, and then explore the screen up toward the right hand corner
for the media player.

Also, there is Tubie TV, which is much more accessible, and has a lot of
the free stuff that Pluto has.

You will like Tubie a lot!

Next, is film rise. It has a lot of TV series and is accessible, but you
have to work at all of these apps.

You have to do a lot of feeling around the screen, you cannot just swipe.

Also, I use Popcorn Flicks. It works well, but again, you have to feel back
and forth on the screen. Swiping is pretty much useless with these apps.

Also, there is Free TV, another app.

Those are the free TV apps I use the most!

Have a great one!

Re: What is every ones fave voice they like to use for voice over?

2019-06-13 Thread Kerry Macdonald
Alex is my favorite I was so excited when we had him added to the mix into
thousand 14. I also like the US Siri mail and the new were female Siri voice. I
like the new south African Siri voices as well. However Alex is my all-time
favorite.

Re: Ending a call with Siri?

2019-06-13 Thread 'christopher hallsworth' via VIPhone
In an Applevis podcast where they interviewed a couple of the accessibility
team at Apple, they did state that Voice Control will probably work with
headphones when VoiceOver is on, but that was all. They are initially hoping to
get it working for the community it was intended for, then improve from there,
like they did with Assisted Touch all them years ago.
