RE: Resolved was Where is the setting not to have the iPhone revert to the speaker when moved away from my ear?

2019-10-30 Thread Alan Lemly
Hi Sieghard,

Thanks for that logical explanation as to why the phone speaker automatic
switch is under VoiceOver. I didn't realize how easy it was for the sighted to
switch to the speaker. I know it's really easy for them to butt call someone
since calls can be generated with one touch so it only makes sense.

Hi Alan,

It is a Voiceover/accessibility feature because if Voiceover is not running the
phone never automatically switches, this feature does not exist for sighted
users because for them it’s super easy to simply tap the speaker button whereas
a blind person has to find it first and if audio was only coming from the
earpiece you have to sort of hold your phone close enough to hear but not so
close that the screen doesn’t react to your touch and all that. I also
sometimes wish this was more consistent.

All in all I still prefer the automatic switching even if from time to time it
happens when you don’t want it to happen.

Hello again List,

I found my own answer. It's under Settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver, Audio,
Auto select speaker in call. I've now turned this off. I guess I had trouble
finding it because this doesn't seem like an accessibility setting to me since
everyone talks on the phone whether using VoiceOver or not and might want to

Hi List,

I'm having a devil of a time finding the setting to turn off causing the phone
to send audio through its main speaker when moved away from the ear. When on a
phone call, my phone keeps switching between the main speaker and the ear

I'm running iOS 13.2 on an iPhone 8.

Thanks in advance for any help.

2019-10-30 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Alan,

I believe you already had your answer, but I once again want to point out the
usefulness of the search field in Settings.
If you type “speaker” in that search field the first result is what you want
and if you swipe past it tells you exactly where to find it.

RE: Annoying Bug With the "Next Keyboard" Button for Text Entry in iOS 13.2

2019-10-30 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
The easiest way to switch keyboards is to double tap and hold, then drag your
finger up to the keyboard you want and let go.
I could swear that I remember from the June keynote when iOS 13 was introduced
that there was supposed to be a separate button to engage the emoji keyboard in
iOS 13. I would really welcome this, I could simply use the keyboard button to
switch between my two keyboards, English and German, and use the dedicated
emoji button if I wanted to grab an emoji. I also think there should be a way
to insert an emoji and have the keyboard revert back to whatever you were using
before without having to do so manually.

Hello.

On the positive side I am thrilled that Flicktype's functionality has been
restored to VoiceOver users as a third party keyboard in iOS 13.2. However,
there is an annoying issue on my iPhone 8 which I have discovered that I wanted
to mention. I plan to email Apple Accessibility about this but if others are
affected by this issue I'd like to encourage them to do so as well.

When I bring up a text entry field with the standard English keyboard the "next
keyboard" button reports something like "next keyboard, emoji." Double tapping
this button switches to the emoji keyboard, as expected. I then hear "next
keyboard, Flicktype" but double tapping the button does not switch to the
Flicktype keyboard as it should and is it reliably did in iOS 12. Instead, it
stays on the emoji keyboard. As a workaround if I double tap and hold the
button it does seem to switch over to using Flicktype. I'm wondering if other
Flicktype users are able to confirm this?

Hi all,

Has anyone tried and had any success with using two sym cards (or
micro-sims) in one phone? I seem to recall this being a feature in the iPhone
11 onward, but didn't know if anyone had actually tried it.
It's a feature I have high hopes for, as I'd prefer to use one device for both
work and personal use, while maintaining different phone numbers and such.

Thanks,

RE: Another question Re: 13.2

2019-10-30 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Richard,

Your method works just fine, but I still find it easier to simply open the App
Store, then swipe right once to the “My Account” button and double tap on it.
After that touch the screen somewhere in the middle just above the home button
and you easily and quickly find the Updates section.
>From there I agree, a 3-finger swipe I s a good idea, then you can either tap

Do a 1 finger triple tap on the app store icon, and a context menu will come up
near the bottom of the screen. Flick through that with one finger to updates
and double tap.
Also, you may want to do a three finger swipe down once you are in there to
refresh the screen to get the most recent updates.

When you go to about phone to change your name after a network reset,
you might be prompted to update carrier settings. Be sure to do this as
it will give you updated settings from your carrier.

There are only two thing you have to do after a reset network settings:
1. If your iPhone is called something like Judy's iPhone, you have to go to Settings > General > About (at
the very top). Double tap on it, the first item is the phone's name and during a reset network settings the name
defaults back to simply "iPhone". This is a normal edit field, you can double tap on it, go to the
beginning of the line and put "Judy's" in front of "iPhone" or call it whatever you want.
2. You will also be disconnected from your WiFi, go to Settings > WiFi, find your network
and double tap on it, you then have to enter your WiFi password and then double tap on
"Join" at the bottom right of the keyboard.
That's it, after that you are done and I have seen this little procedure make a

anything else, all your apps will be there where you put them, you will loose

Hi,

I updated to 13.2 last night. This morning I noticed that one of my
folder
names has been changed to "Folder". I've been trying to correct it. I
use

the touch typing setting. As I run my finger over the letters to find the
correct letter, groups of letters seem to be inserted to my folder name
edit

field. Such as, sliding over the H, then the U, will unintentionally type
those letters without lifting my finger. Then, when I try to delete them
I'm closed out of the edit mode, and my phone says "Finished Editing".
And

even though I think they were deleted, they still appear to be there, and
the on screen keyboard has disappeared.

I checked the settings, and Touch Typing is still selected, as far as I
can

tell.

Any suggestions?

Dual sym card capability?

2019-10-30 Thread Shermeen Khan
Hi all,

Has anyone tried and had any success with using two sym cards (or
micro-sims) in one phone? I seem to recall this being a feature in the
iPhone 11 onward, but didn't know if anyone had actually tried it.
It's a feature I have high hopes for, as I'd prefer to use one device
for both work and personal use, while maintaining different phone
numbers and such.

Thanks,
Shermeen

Voiceover plays in my hearing aids, but, I am not receiving the message sound
or the email sound on my phone or in my hearing aids. The loss of the message
sound is definitely a problem. I am going to call Apple. Hopefully Apple will
create a case for this issue.

Hello all,
Since I upgraded yesterday to 13.2, Voiceover stills plays through my hearing

Thoughts?

Hi List,

I'm having a devil of a time finding the setting to turn off causing the phone
to send audio through its main speaker when moved away from the ear. When on a
phone call, my phone keeps switching between the main speaker and the ear
speaker even though I'm holding it next to my ear causing me to lose a lot of
the spoken words.

I'm running iOS 13.2 on an iPhone 8.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Subject: Annoying Bug With the "Next Keyboard" Button for Text Entry in iOS 13.2

RE: Mystery Solved - RE: More Strangeness

2019-10-30 Thread Karen Poulakos
Thanks so much for that tip, Richard! Glad to hear that. I’ll take care of
that right now.

The home phone is a Panasonic cordless phone with 5 hand sets. The menu
settings are not accessible, but it does have talking caller ID, which is why
we purchased it. It also has a USB port on the side of the main base, which
really comes in handy for charging my iPhone. It was purchased at Sam’s club,
about 6 years ago.

Is the home phone listed in your Bluetooth settings?

If so, you could go to the ore info button and forget that device.

Then, it won't reconnect unless you add it back in.

At least, that is what I think would happen never had such a system.

Ok, my keyboard problem is solved. It was the slide to touch feature that
was the problem. Thanks for the help with that.

Now, I just received a call on my iPhone, that also rang on my land line
phone. That's also new since the 13.2 update. What do I need to turn off
to solve that problem, without loosing the ability to have Facetime ring on
both my iPhone and iPad?

Thanks.

Nearby Explorer

2019-10-30 Thread 'deidre muccio' via VIPhone
All is well with Nearby Explorer, not the on-line version. Tweaked settings
and now I hear street names. Downloaded one of the first 2 in the lists for
Google Maps which appear to be identical only the descriptions aren't. Both
are 144 mb. I was confused by how each app was prefaced by my hearing
"advertisement button." Many more things are now showing as nearby.
I wish I knew exactly what set of maps was downloading since voice
over said it was already 100% complete and now it is moving on to
downloading or updating more maps. I'm curious about the process.
Dulce are you using on-line Nearby Explorer now?

I found my own answer. It's under Settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver, Audio,
Auto select speaker in call. I've now turned this off. I guess I had trouble
finding it because this doesn't seem like an accessibility setting to me
since everyone talks on the phone whether using VoiceOver or not and might
want to tweak whether the call comes through the speaker or not.

Alan

Hi List,

I'm having a devil of a time finding the setting to turn off causing the
phone to send audio through its main speaker when moved away from the ear.
When on a phone call, my phone keeps switching between the main speaker and
the ear speaker even though I'm holding it next to my ear causing me to lose
a lot of the spoken words.

I'm running iOS 13.2 on an iPhone 8.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Alan Lemly

Annoying Bug With the "Next Keyboard" Button for Text Entry in iOS 13.2

2019-10-30 Thread David Goldfield

How to delete apps from my Apple watch?

2019-10-30 Thread Ann Byrne
My watch can't update because there isn't enough free space. I would
be happy to delete most of the apps from the watch, but I can't
figure out how. Could someone please clue me in?

Thx,

Hi Sharonda,

Since Facebook took over Instagram, it's become much more accessible, with
picture descriptions, just as you get on Facebook.

There are some ways to go with the App, but it's issues that will play for
now until Facebook get's it's boots dug in.

Re: problem with 13.2 update

2019-10-30 Thread Arlene
Vicki, reboot your phone which will help. This seems to happen when going
through an update, that when the update it's done it switches to the samantha
voice. For example that's what happened today when Wayne did the update on the
ipad, and the tom voice we use was grayed out, so rebooting you phone should
bring your voices back so you could change to them again.

Well, I haven't had a problem with any of the updates until now.

When my phone first started after the update, my Voice Over was not using the
default voice as it always did before.

I went into Accessability to change it back and all the US voices were there,
but the ones I had downloaded were not accessible, no button, just the name.
The ones I hadn't downloaded were listed and downloadable.

Even the SIRI male and female options in Voice over were listed, but I
couldn't select them as Voice Over voices either.

The other options under UK, India, etc were available to me.

So how can I get my US voices to work again and where are they if I have all
ready downloaded them?

  Thanks.

  Vicki

No, you cannot end calls with Siri or Voice Control.
Another thing to constantly request from Apple.

It is something that may take two or three tries, but if you have Voice Control

Or, say "swipe right" which should put you on the accept button, then say
"double tap," and you have answered the phone.

The setting Duane is looking for is not found in Voiceover > Audio,
that is only where you can turn the automatic switching from earpiece

What Duane was looking for is in Accessibility > Touch > Call Audio

Do a 1 finger triple tap on the app store icon, and a context menu will come up
near the bottom of the screen. Flick through that with one finger to updates
and double tap.
Also, you may want to do a three finger swipe down once you are in there to
refresh the screen to get the most recent updates.

Getting stuck on the status bar

2019-10-30 Thread Marcia Yale
I have noticed that, with IOS 13.2, VoiceOver gets stuck on the status bar
when I open an app. The Nest app is a great example, but it has happened to
me with others, too. Most of the time if I hit the home button and then go
back to the app I can get at the app, but sometimes I just get stuck again
on the status bar. Thoughts please.

Since I upgraded yesterday to 13.2, Voiceover stills plays through my hearing

sounds are heard by anyone in the room with me, and the sounds are loud.
Thoughts?

RE: And Wi-Fi in contacts

2019-10-30 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I don't quite follow what you are trying to do. What does a contact on your
phone have to do with connecting your Mac to your WiFi?
Is there a reason why you can't simply type in your WiFi password? If you want
to make sure you are typing it correctly just type it first in a text editor,
copy it to the clipboard and then paste it into the field for the WiFi password.

RE: keyboard puzzlement

2019-10-30 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Could you provide a reason why you don’t want a keyboard which potentially can
support more than one device? If you don’t want to use the feature you don’t
have to.
There is always the Apple wireless keyboard, I think it’s called the Magic
Keyboard.

I was afraid they had stopped making that keyboard and I am contemplating a
replacement for that reason. Suggestions? Keeping in mind, I want to stay away
from multi-device keyboards. Now, to your question. Apparently, according to
the list of keyboard commands listed under accessibility, the page up and down
keys allow access to the control center and I believe the notification center.
Someone may want to crosscheck that but I am fairly certain that there are
keyboard commands which require use of either page up or down.

Its too bad they stopped making that keyboard.
I think you are right that the FN key is the lower left.
In what situation are you needing page up or down?
Are you talking about the same as a three finger swipe up or down?
I've not run into situations where I needed a page up/down key.

Hi,

You need to change your braille table to U.S. English Braille. To do this, open
VoiceOver Settings, choose Braille, then Braille Tables. You'll find a button
that says, "English, Unified, System." Double-tap that and then double-tap
English, U.S.

What happened to the scrub gesture to exit braille screen input?

2019-10-30 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi all,

I just updated my iPhone 7 yesterday. To my dismay, I found the scrub
gesture no longer works to exit braille screen input.

I seem to recall there is some way to define this gesture so I can
still use it. Is this true? And if so would someone list the steps for
me?

And finally, why the heck would apple change that? Sometimes I just
don't see the reason for some changes.

Thanks,
Kim

Notifications don’t leave

Hi, wondering if it is only my phone. Just annoying so if I have to do what I
have been doing so be it. Just curious to know if anyone else has noticed this.
When I get a notification it no longer leaves the screen after a couple
seconds. I actually have to dismiss it. Sometimes it gets in the way to
continue to do what I wanted to do. I am running 13.2 on an XR.

Nearby Explorer and Google Maps

2019-10-30 Thread 'deidre muccio' via VIPhone
Hello
3 days ago I downloaded Nearby Explorer from a family sharing purchase page
in the App Store. What I have is Version1.30.00 copywright date of
2010-2019. I've hard since that the only Nearby Explorer now available is
the on-line App. This does not appear to be true since the app I downloaded
works fine except it is not announcing street names.
I've looked at every setting and streets is dimmed out. I am getting
business names, precise compass directions, and all kinds of other things
that I want. . One of the few things I have turned off is Gobeam. I don't
even know what it is.
I am using an i Phone 6, and I cannot update to 13, and the bugs
others have reported are not relevant to what I am running.
I just selected Google Maps in Nearby Explorer's settings. I went to
the App store to download some Google Maps but there are so many choices and
I don't know which I should choose. Help!
I updated the maps when prompted by NE when I first downloaded the
app, and that had to be Apple maps. In Settings there is an option to delete
the Maps App, but is it safe to do that. Will my iphone truly allow me to
run Google Maps on it if I choose the most comprehensive of their Maps App?
That seems unusually altruistic.

Re: On Screen keyboard in 13.2

2019-10-30 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi Karen,

It sounds like you're engaging Slide to type, which allows you to type by
sliding your finger to all the letters of the word instead of tapping each
letter. This feature is engaged if you hold your finger on a letter for more
than a second. You can either turn it off or increase the amount of time you
need to hold your finger on a letter before it turns on.

To turn off Slide to Type, go to Settings/General/Keyboard and turn off Slide
to Type. To change how long you need to hold your finger on a letter to engage
Slide to Type, go to settings/Accessibility/VoiceOver/Typing, and adjust the
Keyboard Interaction Time.

Best,
Anna

On Screen keyboard in 13.2

2019-10-30 Thread Karen Poulakos
Hi,

I updated to 13.2 last night. This morning I noticed that one of my folder
names has been changed to "Folder". I've been trying to correct it. I use
the touch typing setting. As I run my finger over the letters to find the
correct letter, groups of letters seem to be inserted to my folder name edit

I checked the settings, and Touch Typing is still selected, as far as I can
tell.

Any suggestions?

Karen P

Re: Battery drain

2019-10-30 Thread Candy Lowe
Judy,
I am having a similar problem with my iPhone 8. It does not seem to be holding
a charge, but, when I check the battery health everything shows up as fine. I
have been in contact with apple accessibility, and they are supposed to call me
back this morning. I will let you know if I learn anything.

RE: when answering my phone

2019-10-30 Thread Richard Turner
You cannot do that with Siri, but you can with Voice Control.
It is something that may take two or three tries, but if you have Voice Control
on, and the phone rings you can try either saying "VoiceOver Magic Tap," which
you may have to repeat a couple times.
Or, say "swipe right" which should put you on the accept button, then say
"double tap," and you have answered the phone.

RE: keyboard puzzlement

2019-10-30 Thread Richard Turner
My work around for getting to the control center or notification center with
the keyboard is to do the status bar command followed by the swipe up or down
command with Options Key up or down arrow:
Notification Center: VO-m then Option key-up arrow
Control Center: VO-m then Option key-down arrow

Folks

When in a menu f.e. settings accessibility voiceover speech when you do the
scrub gesture or push the back button the previous main menu will be announced
so back to voiceover, accessibility or settings back button.

This could come in handy to give you directions where you are and can be a pain

RE: For Joe who hates iTunes, Fwd: WALTR: Effortless iTunes Alternative for Windows & Mac | Softorino

2019-10-30 Thread Fanus Buys
I do not quite understand you. An Apple iPod is an Apple device, so if Imazing
can transfer music from a pc to an iPhone the same would be true for an iPod.
Or do I totally misunderstand the whole concept of Imazing? So my question is
if one can transfer music from pc to iPhone or is it only possible to transfer
music from iPhone to pc?

Kind regards

Fanus

Hello Arlene

How does one copy music from PC to iPod using Imazing and where is the music
then stored on the iPod?

No, you cannot purchase music, it is a program to transfer content to an Apple
device.

I have been using WLTR2 since 2017 and have had no problem with it.

Note there are two programs WLTR and WLTR2 the latter works fine in my
experience.

I know some people are highly critical and dismissive of alternatives to ITunes
but some people prefer to use these packages.

Good to know. Arlene, who is on this list I believe, mentioned having success

I've not tried either of these yet, but am going to see if Imazing has a free

People have recommended this program. I've never bought it, but you might want
to check it out.

Re: keyboard puzzlement

2019-10-30 Thread 'Ray T. Mahorney' via VIPhone

First question, How do I emulate page up and page down functions which I

this particular keyboard? I believe it to be bottom lower left of the keyboard

have to be used with a modifier key? Is it locked? If so, How do I go about
unlocking it? Or, does that particular key not work on the IPhone? Anyone who
knows anything about this keyboard, I’m running up a help me flag. Thanks folks.

Re: How Do You Stop a Notification From Repeating More Than One Time?

2019-10-30 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
Yes I am not disputing that at all. In fact I'm in agreement with you. It
was my understanding of what the other poster had said that this was
available for every app in notification center. I was just reporting in that
I understood it to be different that's all.

Take good care.

When I went to notifications and messages, I only saw one place in there
that said how often to repeat and one of those was repeat never but I never
saw that in banners or badges and I did go to the bottom of the phone.

It also said show on locked screen and notification center.

Hi,
With all due respect I only see this option under messages not with each

history and automatically group or not but nothing about repeating
notifications as I said except for the messages app.

What am I missing?
This is in iOS 13.2 and on an iPhone 11 Pro Max.

Hello,
If you go to settings, notifications, you’ll notice that each app has
customizable settings for your notifications styles banners alerts etc. In
each app if you go to the very bottom you will see, Repeat Alerts Button.
If you double tap on this button and then select never, you will only get
one alert.
