Voice Over And Twitter App

2020-10-07 Thread Joy Cyr
Good evening,
Does anyone know if there is a way to prevent voice over from naming/describing
the symbols/emojis while using the twitter app? Having to have the coloured
hearts, flowers, hands, etc., etc. read out gets very tiresome very quickly.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Joy

Why would one by a case beyond what the watch comes with? What is a bumper

RE: How do you power off an iPhone 11

I also like how on my S7 I get the option of shutting down or restarting with a
long press of the lock/power button. I do this so infrequently on my smart
phones though, I don't really care if it's a little more cumbersome on one
phone or the other.

Re: Do you have to have an iPhone unlocked to use it as a hot spot?

2020-10-07 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi Kevin,

You can lock the screen with the hot spot running. I find that the easiest way
to use it with my Mac is to connect the phone to the computer with a cable.
Then the computer powers the phone, and you can turn off Wi-Fi on the computer
to save power. I don't know for sure if you can do this with a PC, but I would
think so.

If not, make a Wi-Fi connection. Once the connection has been established, you
should be able to lock the phone screen.

Best,
Anna

Do you have to have an iPhone unlocked to use it as a hot spot?

2020-10-07 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi.

On Monday, I was on a nine hour trip. I decided to use my iPhone X as a hot
spot for my laptop. It worked briefly, but then quit. The only thing that I
think might have been the reason was I hit the sleep button to conserve power.
I did this twice with the same result. I don't think it was poor cell coverage,
although I'm not ruling that out. I just want to know if you have to have the
phone unlocked?

Thanks in advance for any information.

Re: Apple Watch Case

2020-10-07 Thread Wayne Merritt
I've gotten cases for my watch before because I may bump or knock the
watch into things as I travel around in my environment. The case or
bumper can protect the watch face from damage. I don't currently have
a case for my Series 6 watch, mostly because we're all at home and
there's not much to run into around my house. I may consider it
whenever things open up next year. Although, getting a case onto the
watch and running the band through it can be a bit of a tedious
process. As well as taking the case off of a watch. That's also why I
haven't put one on my new watch I suppose. I got the cheap aluminum
Apple Watch, but I've heard that if you get the more expensive
stainless steel, it does a lot better job in the daily wear and tear.

Re: How do you power off an iPhone 11

2020-10-07 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi,

Tap Volume Up, then volume Down, then hold the side button for a few seconds.
Focus goes to Power Off, so you can simply double-tap. Holding down the side
button and one of the volume buttons works, but I prefer the method I mentioned
because focus is automatically on Power Off, so I find it more efficient.

Best,
Anna

RE: Apple Watch Case

2020-10-07 Thread chaltain
I don't have an Apple Watch yet, but I personally wouldn't get a case for it. I
have classical watches that cost almost as much as an Apple Watch, and I don't
buy cases for them.

Not sure about the Apple Watch, but a bumper is typically just a and that goes
around the sides and edges of a device. They protect the corners and usually
have a bit of a lip around the screen, providing some protection for it as well.

RE: Apple Watch Case

2020-10-07 Thread Richard Turner
I'm going to reveal my great ignorance when it comes to the Apple watch with my
question on this topic, so please be kind. I have not received my first Apple
watch.
Why would one by a case beyond what the watch comes with? What is a bumper
case?

Thanks,

Richard

I have not noticed any change when using the two finger double tap to answer or
hang up calls.

Hello Terry,

The changed behaviour that you describe is default in iOS 14. I quite like it.
To change it back to the way it was, go to settings>phone>incoming calls. It
defaults to banner, but you can restore full screen calls by selecting full
screen.

Daniel

Re: Problem when answering calls while in other Apps

2020-10-07 Thread Daniel MacDonald
Hello Terry,

The changed behaviour that you describe is default in iOS 14. I quite like it.
To change it back to the way it was, go to settings>phone>incoming calls. It
defaults to banner, but you can restore full screen calls by selecting full
screen.
Regards,
Daniel

Having trouble brailling an Italian character

2020-10-07 Thread Traci Duncan
Hi all, I looked up the accent characters for Italian braille and have them
figured out except for the i. It is suppose to be dots 3-4, but anytime I enter
this it is the slash sign. Any ideas around this? I've tried uncontracted
braille entry and 8-dot entry with the same result.

My only guess, that I may need to switch to the Italian keyboard. I just didn't
want to do that every time.

Thanks,
Traci

Problem when answering calls while in other Apps

2020-10-07 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

First of all, if this has already been discussed, I do apologize for
bringing it up again. I don't read a lot of the mail that comes to the
list, due to the amount of mail I receive on a daily basis.

However, I have a problem I hope some of you might be able to help me
figure out. I recently updated to 14. Then when the smaller update was
released, I updated to that. I really haven't experienced too many
problems. I have noticed some sluggishness with Voiceover. But that's
been the biggest thing for me.

I've noticed that now when I get a call while within an App, the whole
screen is not taken up by the call screen. I've discovered how to answer
a call when this happens.

But my problem is this.

So when I want to end a call I did accept, how do I do this? Even though
I take the call, I still seem to be within the App I was in. Or I will
be on my homescreen.

The other day when I took a call, I happened to be texting. So then once
I was on my call, then I heard my text being read to me. That was
anoying, and distracting. It was difficult to hear the person on my call.

So how can I prevent something like this from happening again?

Is this even possible?

Rather than that, I am pretty happy with the latest update. Although, I
don't personally care for all the wigits. But that's just me, and for
another post.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Richard, I imagine Mystic Access will be updating their tutorial. You can go to
mysticaccess.com and buy it and then when they add new updates, those are free.

Re: question for Anna Dresner

2020-10-07 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi Richard and all,

The Apple Watch book being sold by National Braille Press is the one on the
third generation watch. I asked whether they wanted an updated version last
year and was told that not enough people were interested in the book for it to
be worth having me update it.

sorry,
Anna

Yeah we're all getting this focus issue

We'll just have to give apple some time to sort it out,

And people have to remember that we may not be the only ones getting these
issues happening in the new os versions,

For all we know the sightlings might be having the same issues also.

If not they probably get other bugs occurring.

Yes, under your Apple Id it's pretty bad, also on the Today screen or whatever
they call it nowadays I, for example, have a widget for my bank here in Canada
which shows my balances and it's always just stuck on my business account and
no amount of swiping or touching the screen elsewhere changes that.
Another place where I run into it often is when trying to share a news article
or something like that, the actual share sheet is fine, but let's say the
person isn't in the initial short list of recent people, if I tap on Messages
or WhatsApp to share something the resulting screen which opens is inaccessible.

Yamaha speaker - is there a casting bug for autolocked screens

2020-10-07 Thread davycuppens
Hi folks

A friend of mine has the following problem: He has a yamaha speaker and is
casting youtube videos on his iphone but after a minute or so, his screen is
locked automatically while casting.

Is this known as a ios14 bug? Indeed maybe he could workaround this by
putting automatic screenlock off but he does not want this behaviour. For
now, I am still on ios13 on which I will stay till the focus bug is resolved
so I cannot test for him.

Re: How do you power off an iPhone 11

2020-10-07 Thread Gordon
You can also hold down one of the volume buttons and the side button at
the same time for about a second and that will bring up the power off
option or the emergency SOS button to call emergency services. If you
hold the two down for about 5 seconds, I believe that will call 911. So
be sure to hold them down for about a second to get the power off option.

Re: Apple Watch Case

2020-10-07 Thread Wayne Merritt
I don't recall what kind of case I got, but I know I found a pack of 2
or 3 Apple Watch cases on Amazon for about $10. Do a search on Amazon
for Apple Watch case, and put in the size of watch you have whether
38, 40, 42 or 44 MM. You should find something.

Good luck,

Yes, it’s a physical button. It’s on the right side of your iPhone. It’s also
called the lock or power button.

I've seen it on page 0, the page dedicated to widgets, so I don't think it's
just an issue with apps supporting IOS 14.

IOS14 and notifications within native Apple apps interactions?

2020-10-07 Thread Gerardo Corripio
I’ve wondered for some time if it’s a bug in iOS14, the fact that while within
the Mail app, or talking to someone via the Phone App, notifications don’t
alert (via sounds) me as in the past? They do show onscreen, and the phone
unlocks itself when they come in, but no alerts! the weirdest thing is that
when on Whatsap calls, and other tasks, they do alert me as they should! Has
this happened to any of you guys with iOS14?

Re: wifi assist on and dimmed how do I turn it off

2020-10-07 Thread Richard Turner
I suspect you have cellular data turned off.
Turn cellular data on, then you can turn off wifi assist.
Then, if you want cellular data off, you can turn it back off, then WiFi assist
will be off and dimmed.

RE: iOS 14 sucks!!

2020-10-07 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Yeah we're all getting this focus issue

We'll just have to give apple some time to sort it out,

And people have to remember that we may not be the only ones getting these
issues happening in the new os versions,

For all we know the sightlings might be having the same issues also.

If not they probably get other bugs occurring.

Cheers,

Simon F

Yes, under your Apple Id it's pretty bad, also on the Today screen or whatever
they call it nowadays I, for example, have a widget for my bank here in Canada
which shows my balances and it's always just stuck on my business account and
no amount of swiping or touching the screen elsewhere changes that.
Another place where I run into it often is when trying to share a news article
or something like that, the actual share sheet is fine, but let's say the
person isn't in the initial short list of recent people, if I tap on Messages
or WhatsApp to share something the resulting screen which opens is inaccessible.

And if you want a glaring example of the focus issue, go to Settings, your
name, Media and Purchases and start swiping around.

I've seen it on page 0, the page dedicated to widgets, so I don't think it's
just an issue with apps supporting IOS 14.

Emergency SOS Can all be turned off. Good for this klutz!

2020-10-07 Thread Pete Nalda
Thought I was pushing volume, or maybe demented. Then it started screaming, and
I panicked. It was ringing and trying to stop it. Then I got a call, unknown
number, probably from the authorities, and immediately hung up. So I disengaged
all that stuff.
