another way to use them with the 2020. I am going to look at this.. Andy and

I don’t’ know the current price of Tiles, but Airtags seem a tad bit expensive.

But, AirTags have a replaceable battery, which unless they have changed, Tiles
did not.

I would like someone to do a comparison of the sound volume.

When Tiles were fairly new, I thought they would be a great thing for some of
our older clients, but the sound was so low volume they were next to useless.

It seems from the demo at the Apple Event, that you can track them more
accurately than the Tiles.

That is all I know, and guess.

what are the defining characteristics of air tags as compared with tiles?

Thanks.

Re: Strange behavior when creating a note

2021-05-06 Thread Richard Turner
This has gotten worse I think in 14.5, but I cannot be sure.
I'd remove MBraille from the third party keyboards, try the notes app again.
And make sure describe images, and all that new stuff is off.
Then add MBraille back and see if it clears up.

Strange behavior when creating a note

2021-05-06 Thread Paul JOrdan
Hi all. I'm running IOS 14.5 on an Iphone 7. Today I tried to create a note
using the native notes app. When I went to the new note text field I heard
"keyboard reset." Whereever I touched on the screen it simply said "direct
touch area" and I couldn't use the keyboard at all. I usually use M-Braille
when writing, so I assumed that I was automatically put into M-Braille, but
I still couldn't write into the text field. Later I tried using my focus to
create the note and that worked. I also tried using SIRI to dictate and that
worked, but I can do nothing on the screen, either with the M-Braille app,
or by trying to close M-Braille and use the onscreen keyboard. Anyone have
any ideas why and maybe a solution. Granted, it isn't crucial since there is
a way around the problem. I haven't seen this behavior in any other apps.
Very odd. Thanks for all the good information I get from this group.

God bless!

DoItWrite is a clever $1.99 iOS app that helps blind users Learn to draw
lowercase letters, uppercase letters, and numbers for use with iOS 7's

The measurements generally integrate with Apple Health, and can also be viewed

accessibility award. It is generally usable. At one point it was very difficult
to enter some of the baseline information such as height, gender, etc. I am not
sure if that has become more accessible because I have not tried to access
these parts of the app in a couple of years. The way I seem to have things
configured, I must open the Health Mate app in order for the measurements to be
synchronized with Apple Health. I cannot say I like that at all.

You can also get to the information using a browser-based interface that is
also rather quirky but that works, for the most part.

If you are looking for something that is really effortless and absolutely, 100
percent accessible, Withings may not be for you.

I have found that the measurements are extremely accurate as long as you have a
level floor.

The scales are designed to work for multiple users. Withings attempts to match
the measurements of each user based on weight. There are rare occasions when
the matching fails and the measurements go into an unassigned category. You can
use the app to assign the unassigned measurement to a user. If you only have
one user, I assume this would never be an issue.

One additional note regarding assignment of measurements: it is possible to
assign measurements to a user while standing on the scale. This involves
leaning to the right or left and placing more weight on one leg or the other to
change the assignment.

The version of the Body+ that I have only connects to a 2.4GHz wifi network.

I just saw an article about this scale, which sells for a not insignificant sum
of $150 either directly from the vendor or from Amazon. Apparently, it gives
you all sorts of measurements, and of course it connects with the iPhone. My
question is: does anyone have this? If so, how well does it work with
voiceover? Paying that much to get a bunch of measurements that I can’t read is
not in my plan. Smile.

Re: Withings scale

2021-05-06 Thread Geoff Stephens
Howdy Pete,
This looks as if it might be a really good product. I’m sure there are a lot of
decent options these days. I think I purchased my Body+ almost five years ago
and there were not as many Wi-Fi possibilities at that time. Withings has
several products and they are not inexpensive. I have the thermometer and the
blood pressure monitor. To be honest, I have not even got the blood pressure
monitor working properly at this point. It’s a long story.

I do like Withings but if I had to start over now, I would do a fresh
evaluation of the available options.

responding to a dropbox request on the mac or iPhone

2021-05-06 Thread Vicki Ratcliffe
I have received a link for a dropbox request to upload a file to someone
else’s dropbox. After opening the file request link for dropbox and finding
the file itself, what must I do to upload the file to the person’s dropbox? do
I need to copy and paste the file back to where the dropbox request link is and
then hit the upload button or if using the mac hit enter on the file to select
it for upload?

Tips for locating NFC port on register while using Apple pay

2021-05-06 Thread jsabine
Hello all.

I just attempted to use Apple Pay at a local Red Lobster restaurant using an
NFC (apparently) at my table. I activated Wallet and held my iPhone 8 near
the reader, but the reader didn't recognize my iPhone. The server was really
no help as she wasn't able to give me enough information about what was on
the screen to guide me. Any information about where on the POS device the
NFC ports might be located on these devices at restaurants would be greatly
appreciated.

2021-05-06 Thread Arlene
Mr. Ed, we agree. we have 4 iPhones and never had any trouble with them, until
recently one of the iPhone's battery and screen had to be replaced, and that
was done for $120 at batteries plus. We've had all 4 phones for 3 and a half
years, and have taken excellent care of them. it's simple, that's all you have
to do.

  Hi,

To me paying 18 a month is pretty expensive. So if you pay $18 a month that
is $216 a year and if you pay this for three years that come to $648. So to me
you would almost be buying a new iPhone 12 in three years. In two year you
would be shelling out $432. With that amount you could send it in an get
anything fix and still be money ahead by not paying for insurance.

  Hello,

It depends on the phone. For my iPhone 12 I pay $18 a month. For some of the
Android phones my son has had it was %15 a month.

I use Door Dash frequently. Some aspects have made it less convenient, but to
say that it is inaccessible or impossible to use is a stretch. One issue is
that the order button is not labeled, but if you have used the app at all you
know what it is.

I think there is a difference between inconvenience and inaccessibility.

RE: Withings scale

2021-05-06 Thread GS
Mary,
I have the version below the Cardio which is the Body+. The Cardio is the one
that recently added the cardiovascular features.

The measurements generally integrate with Apple Health, and can also be viewed
using the Health Mate app. The Health Mate app is not going to win an
accessibility award.

Re: Bank of America App

2021-05-06 Thread TaraPrakash
Never had such an experience. BOA is the most accessible banking app and I
never found any button that’s not labeled
For continue or done button, I would start looking at the bottom right corner

RE: Bank of America App

2021-05-06 Thread Debbie Downey
Thank you Les.

Perhaps it’s the iPhone 8 that is the problem.

Actually it was my husband’s phone that we were trying to do this on so I’ll
see if he wants to work on it again!

I don’t remember which tab we went into but we were looking at alerts to see
about modifying those and that is where we couldn’t find a back button nor a
button to sign out and the tabs on the bottom were not the same as on the home
screen.

Maybe I’ll put the app on my phone which is also an iPhone 8 and work with it
some more.

Thanks again!

Hi Debbie,

I have been using this app for many years and find it quite accessible.

Currently, I am running it with my iPhone 12 Mini and IOS 14.5. I do not find a
back button on the screen, but really do not need it. Let me provide a few
suggestions to get you started. First, the tabs you want are on the lower right
corner of the screen. By default, the accounts available to you should appear
first. You can single finger double tap to activate any of them. Along the
bottom right corner are a list of tabs. They include accounts, transfers and
bill pay. Just double tap any of them to activate them. There is an electronic
assistant called Erica. She can assist in paying bills, transferring money and
many other tasks. You don’t have to use her, I find I do sometimes, and other
times, I use the app’s facilities to do what I want. Finally, on most screens,
there is a sign out button. Again, just double tap to activate and confirm you
wish to sign out. Swiping from left to right should help you once you activate
the feature you wish to use. I would be happy to assist further if you wish,
but this should get you going.

Best Regards,

Les

Hello,

I’ve downloaded the bank of America app to my iPhone 8 with the latest IOS
update and find that it is not very accessible.

I received a verification code which I entered but then it was very difficult
to find a continue button. I actually called AIRA and they were able to help me
find it using another iPhone to check the screen. There were 2 buttons which
were not labeled so that I could say whether I wanted the device to be
remembered and AIRA had to tell me which button was which; yes or no.

Okay, so I got logged in and selected one of the tabs on the bottom just to
check out what was in there and then I couldn’t find a back button and the Z
scrub didn’t work. I couldn’t even sign out of the app so I just closed out of
the app and will wait for the session to time out to log me out.

Does anyone have any work arounds for this app or am I doing something wrong?
Is it just not accessible? Maybe it’s slightly usable?

Thanks!

Debbie

Upgrading Iphone 7

2021-05-06 Thread doug parisian
I am currently using an Iphone 8 and will likely update to the most
recent IO 14.5.1.  I also have a retired Iphone 7 and I'm hoping that,
if i attempt to upgrade, it will NOT upgrade to the latest IO; I have
the smart cooker app for the instapot and i know instapot are too
morally bankrupt to continue supporting blind customers with their
accessible app.  So, what will happen if I attempt to upgrade my Iphone
7?  Will it simply reject the most recent update or install a previous
update it can handle and that will still allow instapot to work?

Re: the faltering accessibility of DoorDash

2021-05-06 Thread Andy Baracco
I use Door Dash frequently. Some aspects have made it less convenient, but to
say that it is inaccessible or impossible to use is a stretch. One issue is
that the order button is not labeled, but if you have used the app at all you
know what it is.

I think there is a difference between inconvenience and inaccessibility.

Rode go wireless microphone and iPhone

2021-05-06 Thread Cory Jackson
Hello everyone:
I recently purchased the rode go wireless microphone system to use with my
iPhone when recording YouTube and TikTok videos. The microphone works great,
however, when connecting it to the lightning port I lose all audio from my
phone.
I thought that I could use my AirPods to still hear my phone but unfortunately
that changes the recording source from the external wireless microphone to the
microphone on the AirPods. Does anyone have any experience using this device
with their iPhone and voiceover?
Thanks in advance

Regards:
Cory Jackson

Automatic updates might be turned on for the SE2020? Go to Settings -
then App store and see if it is ticked.

I am configuring an iphone with no cell service to help a new user learn it.
I’d like to alter settings that would make the learning experience as
stress-free as possible. I have already turned off pass code. I have also
turned off raise to wake. I was going to lock orientation but can’t find the
setting in IOS 14. Can anyone suggest further steps I could take to accomplish
my goal? Thanks.

Here is the info on it.

Cash Reader is free to download. The free version limits the

You can purchase the Full version within the app at any time.

You may also want to look at the new setting concerning announce messages. That

You still may have to unlock the phone, but let us know.

RE: Bank of America App

2021-05-06 Thread Les Kriegler

Les

Subject: Bank of America App

Thanks!

Debbie

Re: a difference between the iphone 7 and the SE2020 in IOS14

2021-05-06 Thread Richard Turner
Are you talking about App updates?
There are two ways to check updates, my first choice is one finger triple tap
on the App store icon, then flick to updates and double tap.
Then toward the bottom of the screen you will first find previous updates or
something like that, then do a three finger swipe down to refresh the screen.
Then you will have Available updates.
Once in a while, the App store icon will show a number of updates, but there
are almost always more updates that you won't see until you refresh the screen.

Thanks!

I found the same thing you did. It disappoints that a bank that large would not
keep up the accessibility on their app.

I am configuring an iphone with no cell service to help a new user learn it.
I'd like to alter settings that would make the learning experience as

setting in IOS 14. Can anyone suggest further steps I could take to

I've got something like 229 gigs worth of bard books on my iPhone.
That is around 1490 books. I am reading some bard books, but they
just aren't that big.

Hi to all. I hope everyone is having a wonderful start to their day.
I have just spent quite a while putting loads of fun ringtones on my
iPhone 8.
For the most part, everything went very well. I bought myself a
couple of 4 foot long lightning to USB cables to connect my iPhone to
my computer so I can access iTunes. It was a lot of fun picking
ringtones. I really like that once the ringtones copy to my iPhone 8,
I hear a sound, then I can go into my tones list and make sure I find
the ringtone I just copied in the list. It makes it very easy. I got
a bunch of ringtones from a friends FTP server. I did have to convert
some file formats to .M4R format so the files would work with my
iPhone, but that isn't to hard. I've got more ringtones to convert
from WMA format to .m4r, but I've done enough putting of ring tones on
my iPhone today. I've got to get more space on my iPhone, so I can
update my iPhone. I don't have enough space at present to install the
newest update.

Re: How to delete a bookmark on the Mac?

2021-05-06 Thread Bill Gallik
Hello (again) Ann,

I grew up in northern Wisconsin; in fact, on the property where I reside now.
I bought the family home from my Mother’s estate in 2018. So much for that old
quip, “You can never go home again” because I most certainly have.

As for Winter, if you ever went into the Winter Co-op you very likely ran into
my oldest sister or my brother-in-law; she was the “Produce Manager” and he was
the overall store manager from the mid-80s until about 15 years ago. What a
small, small world it truly is!

I am so sorry to hear of Bonnie’s and Judy’s passing. I do recall that Bonnie
was not in particularly good health. But, nonetheless, it is sad to hear of
their passing. I had kept in touch with Donna until about 10 years ago, glad
to hear she is still kicking.

Perhaps you are aware of the help feature on the Mac, but I’ll offer this tip
anyway just in case. For help on the Mac you can type in VO-H and VO-HH for
considerably helpful documentation for working on a Mac using VoiceOver. There
is a wealth of “how to” information even though it is terribly dry reading.

And, finally, I’m so glad my response to your predicament did help! I always
enjoy helping others resolve difficulties - in the computer world and in life
in general although I don’t get much opportunity in the latter case. ;-)

It was great hearibg from you.
