You can always try and look for an older used iPhone or iPod Touch, one
which still has an older version of iOS on it. Of course if you happen to
catch the Instant Pot WiFi on a good sale it may not cost more than
something like that.

Good morning,

A few years ago, I got one of the first Smart Instant Pots that
hooked up to the iPhone via Bluetooth. It worked well, and while I
could use it to some extent with just the buttons, I found that
being able to use it with my phone really helped and made it easier
to take advantage of its capabilities.
Since I upgraded to my iPhone 12, I found that my Instant Pot
doesn’t connect to my phone. I thought I had to re-pair it via the
app, and when I tried going that direction, either my phone or the
Instant Pot didn’t seem to recognize one another. If there is some
recognition, it is only for an instant, and then it goes away and I
can’t use the Instant Pot with the phone.
I’m wondering what you think could be wrong, or if I should get one
of the newer ones.
I like being able to use it and set the temperatures with ease
without having to memorize and count and do all of those extra things.
This is still in good condition, except for the Bluetooth capabilities.
What are people using now? What do you guys think about the newer
Smart Instant Pots? How accessible are they? Are they worth it?
I’d like to read your thoughts before I make any decisions.

2021-05-21 Thread Paul JOrdan
Hi all. I enjoy playing pyramid 13 which is an old card game I've had on my
phone for several years. All of a sudden Game Center pops up each time I
launch the app and I can't make it go away. When I get to the "not now"
prompt it lets me go into the game, but "game center" still shows up every
time I swipe to the end of my hand of cards. Is there a way to get rid of
it? Thanks.

God bless!

Any suggestions?

So far Sound Core speakers look pretty cool. Also I read about a magnetic,

Hi. This is Maria. I'm just wondering, first of all, did I memorize
the e-mail address for the V iPhone list correctly? Also, let's say
somebody like Karen e-mails the mailing list, and I reply to her. Does
my reply only go to Karen, or does everybody see my message? I mean,
if I press Control R to reply to her, does the reply only go to her,
or does it go to the entire mailing list? I'm just making sure it goes
to the entire list, or do I have to press reply all, not just reply?
Thanks.

I am using a SE20/20 with 64GB. Is there a fix for this?

Thanks!

Hi, I'm in the market for a water resistant Bluetooth speaker. I'd like the
kind where voiceover will stay on my device and not go to the speaker. It would
be a bonus if the speaker was compatible with Alexa, but that’s not a must.

Any suggestions?

So far Sound Core speakers look pretty cool. Also I read about a magnetic,
expandable one from POW.

yes, soundcore do some good ones, although personally, I prefer the larger

if you want to use it for calls, the wowsound doesn't seem to have a mic

RE: the most accessible free package shipping monitoring apps?

2021-05-21 Thread Alan Lemly
Dan,

You might try Parcel Delivery Tracking by Ivan Pavlov Ltd. I’m not sure if this
app has a free version as I’m subscribed to it but it is very accessible and
supports a lot of delivery carriers. I suspect finding a good free app in this
category might be hard because those I’ve used in the past like Shiprack are no
longer in the App Store.

each time they scan it, when do they expect to deliver it, etc.

I find each services apps are quite accessible.
USPS, FedEx, UPS.

I just use the app for the service a package is coming from.
Or, do a web search on the tracking number and you can find all that out

Re: question about a command

2021-05-21 Thread Alan Lemly
Vicki,

You don't mention whether you pressed the volume up or volume down button at
the same time as the power button. When I press either volume button
simultaneously with the power button on my iPhone SE 2020, I get a screen
containing a slide to power off control at the top, an emergency SOS button in
the middle and a cancel button at the bottom. If I execute the cancel button, I
have to enter my passcode as if I had powered off.

I have no clue whether the first generation SE behaves similarly but you could
either Google it or call Apple Accessibility as Richard suggested.

Hi,

What exactly happens when a person holds down the on/off button and the volume
control button at the same time on an older SE phone?

Thanks.

Re: Question About iPhone Backups and Losing Data

2021-05-21 Thread Wayne Merritt
Joshua,
I believe that allowing the syncing of BARD books from the cloud is on
the roadmap from NLS. I'm not sure when this is supposed to happen. I
could speculate and say within the next couple of years. You aren't
the only one in this position, of wanting your books to sync across
devices like they do in Audible. Regarding Voice Dream Reader, I know
that you can enable the syncing of books from the cloud. I'm not sure
where this is located, likely in Settings, so I'll let someone else
address that. When I get a new device and VDR is fully downloaded on
my new phone, if I open the app I see messages that my books and
material are downloading or updating. I've got some BookShare titles,
and I didn't lose them when I went from the 10R to the 11 last year.

Wayne Merritt

Re: Question About iPhone Backups and Losing Data

2021-05-21 Thread Alan Lemly
Steve,

Unfortunately, whenever you change to a new iDevice, you lose all the content
in BARD Mobile that was on the old device regardless of that device's backup
status. NLS is aware of this issue and is working toward a conversion to the
cloud which will address it along with making other features also available.
However, this process is going to take quite a while to complete.

I've never lost content in Voice Dream Reader when I've upgraded to a new
device but I've always had both an iCloud wifi backup as well as an encrypted
iTunes backup on my local computer.

When I moved from an iPhone 6 to an 8, I lost everything in BARD Mobile
and I think Voice Dream Reader. Then, when I went from an 8 to my
current 10 XS, it happened *AGAIN*! Today, I learned that upgrading to
the 12 Pro Max is a simple phone swap and a reset on my payment plan,
which was a nice surprise, so I'll probably do it before the trade-in
price of the 10 XS drops! What can I do to make sure I don't lose my VDR
and BARD books and mas? Not that somethin sure a box is checked? To
that end, in the list of applications that will be backed up, both BARD
and VDR are checked, but the amount of data they showw ill be backed up
is minuscule compared to what I know is really in there--about seventy
braille ma in BARD and about 2.5GB of audio content in VDR.

2021-05-21 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
Larry. No one seems to get this point. Of course I know my books
would still have been on bard. However, why should I have to
redownload all those books again. I really hope in the future the
folks at NLS can find a solution to this problem. I mean, its not
like at audible where you have your audible library and you can either
stream or download your books.

You can always try and look for an older used iPhone or iPod Touch, one which
still has an older version of iOS on it. Of course if you happen to catch the
Instant Pot WiFi on a good sale it may not cost more than something like that.

Your plan was my plan, as well. Then, my IPhone developed a problem. I cannot
reply to text messages that are sent to me. When I called Apple, the only thing
the tech expert could suggest was updating my phone to the next upgrade (14.5).
Reluctantly, that's what I did. Now I cannot use my Instant Pot, nor is the

Question About iPhone Backups and Losing Data

2021-05-21 Thread Steve Matzura

Re: question about a command

2021-05-21 Thread Vicki W.
Well, I did it without thinking because I was doing three things at once and
Voice Over and SIRI stopped working. There were click sounds, but nothing else
would work. I restarted it three time and nothing!

Finally the fourth time it just started working again. I just wanted to make
sure that I didn't need to check some settings after that.

Thanks.

RE: Inquiry orbit reader 20+

2021-05-21 Thread Richard Turner
I'll answer what I can in context.
, I've been doing some googling on the orbit reader 20+. The one thing I cannot
figure out is if it has cursor routing keys.

* No cursor routing keys.

What are the differences between the original orbit reader and the new orbit
reader 20+?
* The 20 plus can translate plain text files into whatever braille grade you
want to use. There are 4 Profiles that you can set to different braille codes
and switch to the one you want on the fly. It also has a clock, calendar, and
calculator; though they are very basic.
It has newer chips in the hardware.

If I have files stored on the SD card, how can I navigate them? Headings,
paragraphs, etc.?
* There is paragraph navigation but no heading navigation as this is just
working with plain text files. You can navigate by word or character or line
to an extent.

What are your thoughts on the refresh rate of the device? I have read that it
is a bit slower than traditional braille displays.
* It refreshes differently than other displays by starting with the first cell
and going across. If you read several hundred words a minute, you may have to
slow up a bit, but I find the refresh rate just fine.
I had used a Braille Edge 40 for work the last 5 years and various HIMS and
Humanware displays before that and the Orbit Reader suits me just fine.

I briefly owned the orbit writer, but that device did not work out for me. One
reason was I could never update it successfully. What is the update process
like for the orbit reader 20+? Can it be done without a Windows PC?
* Yes, the 20 plus can be updated by putting the .bin file on the SD card and
running the update process. You could either use an SD card reader or put the
device in what they call Mass Storage Mode while it is connected to your
computer and then your computer sees it as a drive and you would just copy the
.bin file on the card, and go from there.
The manuals are on their web site and I have links to all that and more from my
web site: www.turner42.com where I have an Orbit Research Information page:
www.turner42.com/ori.html

And maybe lastly, since I am familiar with what the keys look like on the orbit
writer, what are the braille keys like on the orbit reader 20+?
* The keys are the same on the 20 plus. If you imagine the writer with a
braille display connected to it, you have the 20 plus.

Thank you,
Traci
