About my LA Times app problem

I decided to turn off voiceover and then tell Siri to load the LA Times app. I then turn voiceover back on. Everything is on the screen as it should be. So there is some kind of conflict going on with voiceover when the app loads on this phone. It doesn’t happen on the other one. Both phones

As it happens, screen recognition was in fact on. I don’t have it in my rotor, as I tend not to use it and I found myself accidentally turning it on when I didn’t want to. But at some point I must have turned it on for that app. Unfortunately, I turned it off in settings under voiceover
