RE: "a question about updating

2022-10-09 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Maybe this is a fix in iOS 16.1 then, I am running the iOS 16.1 Public Beta and
Siri has been working fine for the last couple of weeks identifying songs. If I
hear a song and want to know what it is I just ask "Siri, what song is that",
Siri will say "Let me listen" and after maybe 8 or 10 seconds I get the answer.

Joshua, I have no need to know what song is playing on my phone. The song name
& singer/band are there on the screen. I need to know song info when listen to
the radio, out in public in a store/restaurant, etc.

Several questions for those who have trouble identifying songs: is
Siri linked to spotify? I’m not subscribed to Apple Music but to
Spotify, thus don’t know if this would make a difference.
Also are you identiyfing the song through the button within Control
 Pannel?
And about what you get within the Shazam screen apart from the
lyrics, you’ve got to link it first), you get the chance to open
 the song right in Spotify!

Re: Telegram Messaging App

2022-10-09 Thread Wendy Lin
I’ve tried using Telegram at least 5 times and all those times, I don’t find
the app accessible enough, especially when it comes to Telegram groups, the
messages are so much more cluttered comparing to being on WhatsApp and Facebook
Messenger groups I find. Plus I don’t have many of my phone contacts using
Telegram verses WhatsApp.

RE: Considering buying AirTags. How accessible is the app? What are some good uses for them? Talked me into buying. Lol.

2022-10-09 Thread R Van Lant
I have also seen as suggestion to buy a doorbell and put the noise making side
were you want the beacon and keep the doorbell button in your pocket. Someone
suggested this in a case where they were trying to find a particular driveway
in a long row of houses. I agree that AirTags may not be great, at least as a
sound beacon. I read a comparison that Tiles are better for volume, but still
probably not loud enough if the environment is loud. It just takes one
lawnmower to make hearing anything impossible for me.

As Sieghard says, you are the only one who can say if you need them. I
personally don't need to spend $30 for one little tag to track anything.
Perhaps if I travelled a lot and wanted to track my luggage, but even
then, in all the traveling I did when I was younger, my bags were only
lost once, and air tags wouldn't have helped since they ended up on a
later flight and were delivered to the hotel the next morning.

Re: Containers And iPhone Weather App

2022-10-09 Thread Margaret Thomas

Hi, All:

Thank you all for your help, but I am missing something. Finding the
"extra" weather like pressure without using containers seems to be a bit
hit or miss. I got a good number of them a couple days ago, but am only
finding 1 or 2 today using Barbara's instructions: "You just slide
your finger down the screen til you hear the weather announced by days
rather than hours. Scroll through this and then you will reach all the
extra information like uv index, wind speed pressure visibility and so on."

I thought I would have better luck if I could add containers to the
rotor but am not having any luck with either Barbara's instructions "You
add containers to the roder by going to settings, accessibility, then
roder, then select containers." or Marda's below: "In order to put items
in the rotor you have to go to

> settings, then voiceover, then rotor."

I've never found an icon on the home screen for weather like there is
for settings, health, etc. and begin by double tapping onWeather Widget
Stack? my City and temperature to the right of some Verizon information
on the status bar. I don't know what a widget is and thought weather
was an app

Lately, instead of saying Weather widget etc. the status bar sometimes
says Notes widget and other times photos widget other times. I was
trying to work with notes the other day and may have accidentally messed
something up. I don't think I have even accidentally taken a
photograph. I want weather front and center and I don't want notes or
photos the focus of attention.

In trying to find out what a widget is, I found some posts that referred
to today view. I know there can be multiple home screens and, right
now, I seem to have 3, but today view is completely new for me. Please,
can someone enlighten me?

I'm running IOS 15.6.1 on an SE 2020.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Margaret.  In order to put items in the rotor you have to go to

have containers in my rotor too but when I went to the rotor settings I
didn't find that setting.  So I don't know if they still have it or
not.  I don't know anything about containers so can't help with that. If
you do find that setting and put it in the rotor and don't like where it
is you can reorder items in the rotor to put the most important things
first.  There are a whole bunch of things you can put in the rotor,
maybe thirty or forty of them but it's probably best not to clutter the
rotor up with too many things like you wouldn't want to have too many
things on your desktop in your pc if you have one.  hth

Apparently having containers on the rotor allows more information to

Could someone please tell me how to add containers to the rotor so I

Kay,
When I use containers in the native weather app, it jumps from the
current conditions, to Today's forecast as in Partly cloudy
conditions from 4 pm-6pm with sunny conditions expected at 6pm.

The next flick down gets me "now, partly cloudy 58 degrees."
The next flick down gets to the ten day forecast.  Next is air
quality, Temperature, UV index, sunset, Wind, rainfall, feels like,
humidity, visibility Pressure, Then it seems to circle back to the 10
day forecast.

From the point where it says Now, partly cloudy 58 degrees, if I
right flick, then I get the hours through tomorrow and I then bump
into the 10 day forecast.

If I right flick from the 10 day forecast, I get each day's forecast,
Today, Saturday, Sunday, etc.

I think that is everything that is on the screen.

Several questions for those who have trouble identifying songs: is
Siri linked to spotify? I’m not subscribed to Apple Music but to
Spotify, thus don’t know if this would make a difference.
Also are you identiyfing the song through the button within Control
 Pannel?
And about what you get within the Shazam screen apart from the
lyrics, you’ve got to link it first), you get the chance to open the
 song right in Spotify!

Right, the feature is intended to use the iPHone microphone and have Siri
listen to a song not laying on your phone.

I’ve been able to indeed identify songs from the phone; for example let’s say
I’m in Youtube Music and a song sarts playing? I keep the song playing, go to
the Control Center’s Music Identification button, double-tap and in no time at
all, a notification pops up with the song’s name. It even works if you’re
wearing earbuds/headphones!

If the song is playing on your phone, I wouldn't think you would need Siri to
identify it.
The point of the feature is if you are listening, say to a car radio, and don't
know a song, you can ask Siri to identify it.

Are you talking about music playing on your phone?
I think the rest of us are talking about music playing on another source and
your phone/Siri, is listening to the song off say a radio or computer,

I have no such problems. I tried this morning with both apple music, and
youtube music and Siri was able to identify what song was playing with no
issues. I have a 13 pro max updated to the latest version of IOS.

All I get is Sorry, I can't recognize music right now.
I have tried later, about an hour apart including just now, and
 nothing.

However, if I simply have Siri open Shazam, it identifies the song
quickly. And, something I just noticed, there is a button to get
the lyrics of the song. That is something I will use more now that
I paid attention to the Shazam screen.
Now, I do not subscribe to Apple Music, so wondering if those who

Just seems very odd that some people get answer while others do not.

Apple may use Shazam for their song identification, but opening Shazam on my 13
pro identifies the song immediately.
Siri does not.
So something on the Apple side is broken between Siri and Shazam, but you can
get the results you want simply by asking Siri to open Shazam instead of asking
it to identify the song.
At least until Apple sorts out whatever they did.

Hokusai multitrack recording

2022-10-09 Thread Richard Turner
Has anyone on here used the app, Hokusai, for multitrack recording and in
particular, the panning feature?

The basic app is free and seems to work well with VoiceOver. IN fact, they
have very specific comments about the features they made accessible to
VoiceOver in their user guide.

I would consider the $9.99 in-app purchase for the extra features, but it is
really the panning feature I am most interested it so wanted to know if anyone
used that successfully with VoiceOver.

Thanks,

Richard

As Sieghard says, you are the only one who can say if you need them. I
personally don't need to spend $30 for one little tag to track anything.
Perhaps if I travelled a lot and wanted to track my luggage, but even
then, in all the traveling I did when I was younger, my bags were only
lost once, and air tags wouldn't have helped since they ended up on a
later flight and were delivered to the hotel the next morning.

RE: Considering buying AirTags. How accessible is the app? What are some good uses for them? Talked me into buying. Lol.

2022-10-09 Thread Richard Turner
Beth,
Check out the app, NaviLens which is free.
You can request pdf files of tags you print off, then scan with NaviLens and
enter or record whatever text you want.
The tags come in multiple sizes, full page, 4 on a page, 16 on a page and so on.
The full page one is scannable at at least 70 or 80 feet away.
What I would do, is print out a full page or at least the 4 on a page, Tape it
on a window near the door, and when you are getting close, fire up NaviLens and
once it sees the label, it will lead you to it.

If your address is posted on that door, or near it, if you have a pro model of
the 12, 13, or 14, the new door detection feature might work as well.

HTH,

Richard, USA.

Hi,

I appreciate the discussion because I think it’s talked me out of buying
because there’s probably other ways I can accomplish what I need. I am looking
to learn where a door is in a row of townhomes where there is no distinguishing
landmarks or clues to know which is which. But I could at least till winter put
some thing audible in the house by the door like a small radio or some thing
that I could hear. Until I learn, which is which. An AirTag would work for
this, but I think there are other better solutions.

Thank you,

BetH

Your idea would probably work a lot better, especially if you’re dealing with a
lot of background noise. The AirTags don’t hold up well to background noise, so
you may want to use something louder.

Unable to rename a playlist in apple music

2022-10-09 Thread Kimberly Gardner
Hi all,

I think this problem has been around for a couple of iOS releases now.

Using voiceover on my iPhone, I am unable to edit/change the title of
playlists. It doesn't matter if it is a playlist I created myself or a
new playlist I am attempting to create. I double tap the field
containing the name of the playlist I am unable to navigate by
character or to delete whatever name is in the field. By positioning
the cursor at the beginning of the field I am able to type additional
characters in front of any existing text, but I can't otherwise edit
the name.

Does anyone have a solution for this problem? It makes managing my
playlists really difficult.

Thanks for any info.

Kim

Several questions for those who have trouble identifying songs: is Siri linked
to spotify? I’m not subscribed to Apple Music but to Spotify, thus don’t know
if this would make a difference.
Also are you identiyfing the song through the button within Control Pannel?
And about what you get within the Shazam screen apart from the lyrics, you’ve
got to link it first), you get the chance to open the song right in Spotify!

One word answers are not useful, especially when one of the phones
mentioned cannot update to iOS 16.

Strange thing, if I use Siri on my iPhone 11 I get, Try again later. If I use
my watch Se Siri will identify the same song as I requested Siri on my phone to
identify every time.

IOS 16 & Identifying music

2022-10-09 Thread Gerardo Corripio
Some of you have been talking about in the thread entitled “Updating Questions”
how some of you’ll have trouble identifying songs using iOS16’s Siri/Shazam
integration? My experiences not being subscribed t Apple Music, but do have
Spotify linked with Siri (I don’t know if this is the trick to all of this),
but yesterday evening while at the grocery store (HEB) with my parents, I
identified several songs playing over the AP,without issues! I did this through
the route f going to Contorl Center, and double-tapping the associated icon.
Hope this helps some.

All I get is Sorry, I can't recognize music right now.
I have tried later, about an hour apart including just now, and nothing.

However, if I simply have Siri open Shazam, it identifies the song quickly.
And, something I just noticed, there is a button to get the lyrics of the song.
That is something I will use more now that I paid attention to the Shazam
screen.
Now, I do not subscribe to Apple Music, so wondering if those who are having
success, have that subscription?

Just seems very odd that some people get answer while others do not.

I have an iPhone 13 pro max updated to the latest version of IOS. My Siri
correctly identifies songs if I ask her what song is playing, she gives me the
correct answer. I think the song has to be actually playing when you ask her
the question to work correctly. I have also been able to tell Siri to Hang up
on a call and it works correctly as well.
