Re: SuperSense AI has an update: don't get excited

2024-05-14 Thread 'Mervin Keck III' via VIPhone
I need to start using envision AI more. I use superSense often but lately end
up going to either Seeing AI or AIRA out of frustration. I purchased SuperSense
at a Convention several years ago after a live presentation full of promises.
I”m wondering when a host of new promised features will appear with a new
subscription model. Such as we have been recently seeing.

Family Sharing with Voice Dream Subscription

2024-04-01 Thread 'Mervin Keck III' via VIPhone
Greetings:
This is not to debate the new subscription plan. This is a question regarding
Family Sharing on the iPhone. And I am going to email support as soon as I send
this message.
Last evening I subscribed to the annual plan $59.95 on my iPhone 14 Pro Max. I
have Family Sharing turned on and my wife and I both have sharing enabled. We
share the 2TB plan with Apple. But we have not been able to see third party
apps such as VDR or the other apps that I am supposed to have available for
family sharing.

According to my settings I have all the boxes checked. My wife has sharing
enabled as well. I am wondering if there is something we are missing?
Thanks in advance.
Merv

Re: latest updates from supersense

2024-03-29 Thread 'Mervin Keck III' via VIPhone
I have always liked the ability to make custom labels. I use some grocery items
that do not have barcodes available. Once I make the custom label it generally
sticks. Only once have I lost a custom label after an app update. I should
really begin getting more mileage out of the app. Especially since the latest
improvements. I have always liked it especially for the barcodes.

I was playing with the AI last night and this morning. While I have not used
this app much recently so I honestly do not remember if it always had AI in the
title as it does now, the feature that allows the individual to scan a barcode,
then ask questions based on the description works pretty well.
I would still like to see a few more improvements. As long as they don’t change

Re: Question about the Vesync app

2023-11-22 Thread 'Mervin Keck III' via VIPhone
Hi,
I went into the Vesync app and into Forums in hopes of asking for the inner
dimensions of the basket on the Cosori 3. However, on the iPhone 14 Pro Max I
could not see anything for the most part but unlabeled buttons. I will have to
do a bit of research on their web site and see if I can contact customer
service and ask.

Nicki and I usually layer boneless wings across the bottom. As a rule I don’t
pile anything up even if it is jalapeño poppers. Or potato wedges. One of these
days I’m going to try getting some of those fresh red potatoes like I used to
get back when I had vision years ago and some sweet onions and see if I can
make some good homemade home fries. The kind us old country people used to make
for breakfast.

Re: AirPods Pro Audio Question

2023-10-30 Thread 'Mervin Keck III' via VIPhone
I can’t say why they are in Mono. But I can say I had issues with my M1 MacBook
Pro and the Air Pod Pro 2 USB C edition. I’m using them just fine on the 14 Pro
Max but I am no longer using them with the Mac. Audio kept losing voiceover and
I would have to shut the Mac down to get it back.

Re: Echo Dot 5th generation

2023-10-24 Thread 'Mervin Keck III' via VIPhone
You can check the volume by saying wake word change volume to 3 or whatever you
want the volume to be. However, it may be muted. There are four buttons on top.
Of the 5th gen Dot. A plus and minus which are volume buttons. A round button
which is both used for resetting and for waking up the Lady A. And opposite
that is the mute button. That mute button makes a sound when mute goes on and
off. It is higher pitched when mute goes off than when it is muted.
Hope that helps.

Re: Soundscape update

2023-08-07 Thread 'Mervin Keck III' via VIPhone
It will be interesting to see what these other apps eventually produce. I use
voice Vista often and have had very good results. I’m even thinking of getting
Air Pods to use with them and I don’t normally prefer earbuds of any kind. I
have a waterproof lanyard that I got from Amazon and using Voice Vista I have
overcome a spot that I have strayed into and got lost consistently for three
years. Now I go right past it every time. Ironically, I never tried the
original app once when it was a Microsoft app. Before they released the open
source into the wild.

Re: Using Voicevista for turn by turn directions

2023-07-08 Thread 'Mervin Keck III' via VIPhone
That is exactly what I was hoping for. I like the easy way of recording and
setting markers. However I would also like to be able to have the change of
direction automatically voiced without having to press a button.
I have a paid app and have never been able to figure out how to accomplish
these two tasks with blind square or I would have been using that because I
like the way it uses my watch.

Re: Just a Quick Hello To Everyone on the List from Moderator Mark

2023-05-31 Thread 'Mervin Keck III' via VIPhone
Hi Mark,
I would love to see the Messages app get some love. Since they updated it a few
builds ago it has been a bit clumsy. It is often difficult to find the record
button then again finding the send button when sending audio messages on the
iPhone. Along with that, I would like a quick and easy way to export audio
messages to files or folders on the Mac. I saw that CAF but couldn’t find an
easy way to export an audio message to mp3 or WMA or even wav.

Re: what are good calendar apps

2023-04-21 Thread 'Mervin Keck III' via VIPhone
I use the native Calendar app as well, Richard. On both my iPhone and iPad Pro
as well as my MacBook Pro. I like the way that all three devices sync up
immediately. In fact I also have a watch and that syncs up along with my other
three devices. Nicki, my wife, and I have a shared Calendar in addition to my
other calendars and her four devices and my four devices all sync up
simultaneously when one of us enters something into the shared Calendar. Which
we do often.
I generally have something going daily on the Calendar as well as eight or ten
reminders going in a variety of shared categories. I have both Calendar and
Reminders as complications on my Apple Watch.
I would have a difficult time spending $56 on a third party app when VoiceOver
works so well with the Native apps Calendar and Reminders.

Re: Playing Apple classical music over my sonos speakers

2023-04-17 Thread 'Mervin Keck III' via VIPhone
According to someone, I spoke to at Sonos, they are working on support between Apple, classical music, and Sonos. However, it is not there yet. I also spoke to someone with Apple about support on Sonos, as well as the Mac and got a similar answer. And he said they have no plans to take it to the Mac with an apple. On Apr 17, 2023, at 4:11 AM, realman02 via VIPhone wrote:Hi. I just bought a Sonos Era-300 and am anxious to hear spatial audio over my Era-300. I can also get to it through Sonos, but can’t connect into the Era-300, although I can using Spotify. Anybody got any suggestions? Thanks. John

2023-04-03 Thread 'Mervin Keck III' via VIPhone
Yes, the airplay work around does work. Although, I have been spoiled by the air foil and air. Pollo satellite on the Mac. And of course the voice control on Sonos. I do not have an Apple TV but I know someone who does use the AppleTV and Sonos throughout her home and she is very happy with the results. On Apr 3, 2023, at 12:23 PM, Sieghard Weitzel wrote:

Actually I would consider using Airplay to send Apple Music Classical to Sonos as a perfectly acceptable solution at least for now.
Given how many music services Sonos supports and the fact that an Android version of Apple Music Classical is apparently in the works, I am pretty sure it is just a matter of time until it will be available natively from Sonos.
Alternatively, hopefully Apple will also release an Apple Music Classic app for the Apple TV and if so and if you have a Sonos surround setup, you could then play it to Sonos from  your Apple TV.
I just read a post on a Sonos Facebook Group that even though spacial music/Atmos is now supported by the Sonos app, playing it from the latest version of the Apple TV 4K apparently is a big difference in terms of audio quality. Therefore
I would imagine that this might be the same with Apple Music Classical if it were available both on the Apple TV and natively via the Sonos app.

Are you able to start music from the app and then use airplay to play it throughout your residence? I know that’s not the best workaround and you should be able to ask Sonos directly to play from the app.

There are two small hitches that sort of take the shine off the Apple. And I’m hoping they eventually correct this. I did call both Apple and Sonos and speak to them in this regard.

First, the app is not currently a supported service of the Sonos system. While Apple music is easily accessed all over my residence, the Apple Classical music App needs a workaround to be channeled through the whole house Sonos system.

Second, while the app is available for the iPhone and iPad free to anyone who subscribes to Apple Music, Apple has no plans to put this app in the Mac App Store.

I have an M1 MacBook Pro so had expected to just load it as I do several iPad apps and use Airfoil as a workaround. That is a Rogue Amoeba app and works very well with Sonos. However, so far I have not been able to enjoy the Apple Classical
App through the whole house system. And I am hoping they correct that with a future update either from Sonos or from Apple. Because I absolutely love the app.

Re: Sonos CEO says Amazon, Google aren’t "doing anything interesting" in audio - The Verge

2023-02-12 Thread 'Mervin Keck III' via VIPhone
Sonos has three options unless you get the models without microphones. Those
options are Alexa, Google, and Sonos. You can run Sonos alongside Google and
Alexa. Sorry if I evoked one or another of your speakers. Both Sonos and Google
have Hey before them to prevent such issues. Sonos is rather basic but is very
nice for controlling the alarm when you are half asleep in the morning and need
to have music changed or volume along with your alarm.

I thought about grabbing a Sonos Move this week as I have a coupon for a
discount that expires Sunday. But now I am going to wait and see if they will
refresh that model. I bought a roam last year and gave it to Nicki, my wife,
who had a specific need for it and it serves her well. The accessibility of the
Sonos system is very good except on the Mac. I made several requests to have
their Mac app as accessible as the PC and iPhone app.
Regarding the battery status, however, I have several Sony Headphones that will
give me the battery status with the push of a button. I have two WH1000-XM4
which still sell on Amazon for around $250 even though the XN5 model is
available for around $350. The right side of the headphones are touch but very
accessible. The left side has push buttons. One button speaks the battery
status when pushed while the headphones are in operation.
If I didn’t already own the WH1000-XM4 I would have the XM5 because of the
greater noise reduction for making calls in a crowded room. But the XN4 are my
go to headphones on the iPhone and totally accessible.
Getting back to Sonos, I have never been disappointed with their quality or
their committment to accessibility. If I lived in a house rather than an
apartment, I would own a lot more than the ten Sonos speakers that I currently
do own.

On Thursday, Twitter updated its developer's agreement with a clause

2022-08-31 Thread 'Mervin Keck III' via VIPhone
The issue with this thread is it has not yet generated a discussion of dating
apps. It has only generated controversy. And a few lonely heart pleas including
phone numbers and cries for companionship. Perhaps if a few people stopped
fanning the flames and either added to the solution or stopped making the
problem bigger, the issue would not seem so insurmountable. And a solution
would present itself to the individual who originally opened the thread. And
the interested parties.
To bring the original thread back on topic: Amy accessible dating apps out

I use Spring for Twitter on both my Mac and my iPhone. I prefer my Mac but find
it worthwhile on both devices. I don’t think $9.99 is unreasonable. Especially
considering it is not a subscription. And it gives you push on the Mac. And it
syncs very well with all three of your devices if you have both an iPhone and
an iPad in addition to the Mac. And the developer is very quick to respond.
I’ve only been back on Twitter for a few months after leaving it for about a
year. So I don’t have a ton of followers or lists yet. Again. But so far this
is my twitter app of choice for all of my devices.
And don’t let anyone tell you the Mac is losing accessibility. The Spring
Twitter app proves that is totally bogus.

Re: Regarding Paramount plus

2022-01-12 Thread 'Mervin Keck III' via VIPhone
We recently started having some accessibility issues on the Fire TV. Where we
had no trouble with audio description now we are having trouble turning it on.
It came only recently after the last update. Hopefully it will get fixed again.

Re: A reason not to spend the big Bucks for Apple Airpods including Airpod Max or at least not yet

2022-01-01 Thread 'Mervin Keck III' via VIPhone
I like the Sony WH1000XM4. It is very comfortable. Has great sound. Normally
retails for $349 US. However, I got a Black Friday deal for two of them for my
wife and I. They were $100 off for several weeks over the holidays.

Re: Question of the Week: What is your Favorite Apple product and Why?

2021-12-20 Thread 'Mervin Keck III' via VIPhone
Functionality of the watch will also depend on the model and whether you
include cellular. I have the Series six and do not regret paying the price for
the extra line on my phone plan. One day I was out walking and forgot my phone.
A call came in informing me of a death in the family and I needed to act
immediately even though I was out walking. If I had not been able to answer the
call on my watch independently of my phone and then follow up immediately from
where I was standing I would have been out of luck.

Re: Three questions

2021-11-27 Thread 'Mervin Keck III' via VIPhone
If I recall correctly, Mark, our moderator is looking to purchase an Apple
Watch right now. So I would expect to see quite a bit of Apple Watch traffic
here in the near future.
Another Apple Watch group is:

I have noticed that I tend to bouce about once a week on groups.io

if I let it go an entire day without checking my email. But it is annoying.

Re: Apple getting cheapq

2021-04-15 Thread 'Mervin Keck III' via VIPhone
At first I felt like Apple was being cheap. Then I looked around and realized I
didn’t use the charging blocks I had here anyway. I use an old computer with a
hub as a charging station for all types of devices including my watch, phone,
and sometimes my iPad. I’ve got several of those bricks lying around gathering
dust just in case. But haven’t used them in years. And I have four batteries
and a JBL Boombox with two 20,000 MA ports on it that I keep charged that will
keep me going for days in the event of a power outage. So the bricks are exacly
as Apple says. Just future land fill or most likely recycle for electronic
recycle day.

was messing with my phone. I was home alone at the time. And had bluetooth
turned off and had rebooted the phone and had reset the phone in settings.
What I have discovered is that most times if I turn off bluetooth then reboot
the phone then turn on bluetooth that the keyboard will become visible again.
This is a solid reboot and not just turning off the phone. If that does not
work I sometimes can go into messages and into search and dictate and just act
like I am dictating. Once the keyboard comes up I can cancel out of the search
and the keyboard stays visible.
This bug is more frequent than people realize and is easily googled. Apple
really needs to address it as it was present even when I had my 8+ and still
gives me issues on the 12 Pro Max.

I wish I had the baby shark ringtone.
I’ll have to go do that this weekend.
