Temperature

2022-09-22 Thread Trea Abma
I bought the Apple Watch eight, because of the temperature sensors. It works
for everyone, so you don’t have to be a woman. After five nights you’ll get
the temperatures. You have to turn on sleep focus.

It’s happened to me once with iOS 16, reset helped. The buttons for the reset
are not the same for all phones, so I always have to google how to do it for
this particular phone .

Go to Settings, Face ID and passcode, enter your passcode, swipe to
require attention for face ID and make sure it’s turned off. This should

Voiceover running. I haven’t heard that this setting affects face ID
recognition in the dark but it certainly makes face ID much easier for
 the visually impaired.

I’m trying to use handoff on my Apple Watch. I reply to an email on the watch,
then I try to finish the reply on my iPhone. The manual says that I have to
look in the app switcher, but it doesn’t work. In earlier versions, I could
find the app on the lock screen, so I think I know how it works.

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

cloud music app

2015-10-02 Thread Trea Abma
I found an app called cloud music. I told it which dropboxfolder to use and it
played all files, without having to make a playlist. The app has much more
functions, but this was the one I was looking for.
It is free to try, but after playing 10 songs you have to pay a little.

You can delete an alarm with siri, even all alarms if you wish. Delete 5:30

You can also ask siri to open a particular glance, instead of swiping until

very nice battery status app

2015-07-26 Thread Trea Abma
Search for “battery status” in the watch app.
Monitor the battery levels of all your devices in 1 place,
Kingstreet apps.

It works great. Read the description in the appstore and you know exactly what
you have to do, it is very easy.

Hi Seigard,

I have had great luck with FitBit. They now have the Charge HR, which is a
fitness watch with heart rate monitoring. I don’t happen to have it because I
got the apple watch.

I do, however, love my Flex and the Aria scale, both of which sync with my
phone well and easily. I would assume that the Charge HR would also do that.

I read up some on it. It syncs with Run Keeper and other apps and checks your
heart rate every second while in a workout. I know that there are graphs
involved that would not work but that would be true of most apps.

Take care,
Lois

Sieghard,

I was in your dilemma about 4 weeks ago and found pretty good luck with the
following setup. Polar H7 using the Runkeeper app. The Runkeeper app has some
Voiceover issues when I first entered my height/weight etc., but I didn’t enter
my info during the initial setup and modified it after setting up the app.
Other than that, the app runs pretty good. If you want current pulse and
aerobic info there is a GPS button on the screen that you click into to get the
self-voicing info.

Both my wife and I are using this setup with success. Another tip is to ensure
rinsing the Polar monitor contacts both on the strap and unit to ensure a good
contact. Keep the contacts moist or it will not transmit to Runkeeper. You may
have to play around a little to get the right moisture levels. I just take the
strap, run it under the sink for a second and good to go. Yes, it’s a little
cold when you put the strap on. LOL

Hope this helps and contact me with any further questions.

Jeff

Hi,

Just wanted some opinions from anybody who uses a heart rate monitor for
running/working out like which brand/model do you have and which apps do you
use it with.

I am considering the Polar H7 or Wahoo Tickr or Wahoo Tickr Run. Both have
their own apps but also work with over 50 third-party apps including Runkeeper
and Runtastic. In addition to hardware feedback on the actual HRM I am
interested to hear about accessibility of the various apps people use.

Also, I am interested in the same information regarding wireless blood pressure
monitors and body scales.

Best regards,

Sieghard

Hello folks,

I am still using iPhone 4S with the latest iOS. I noticed that my weather
app does not give me data on weather details such as: pressure, humidity, wind,
precipitation, UV index and such information at all. It just gives me the
headings without any data or percentages associated with any of them. As far
as Temperatures, be it daily or hourly, I get the information. Is there a
setting I forgot to adjust?

Did anyone have this problem? If so, how did you fix it?

Hello. Get the app Enotify and you can set various different alerts for
certain types of emails, battery alerts, and data usage just to name a
few. The app is completely voice over friendly and the developer is good
at responding to suggestions and bug reports. If necessary I can provide
the app store link, however if you simply search for the app name as I
wrote it you should be able to find it just fine. I believe the developers

voiceover on the watch

2015-01-14 Thread Trea Abma
• Like Apple’s other products, Apple Watch will have a series of key
accessibility features.
• To access Accessibility Settings on the fly, users will triple-click the
Digital Crown.
• The Apple Watch will have a VoiceOver feature that can speak text that is
displayed on the screen. Users will be able to scroll through text to be spoken
using two fingers. VoiceOver can be enabled either by merely raising a wrist or
by double tapping the display.
• Users will also be able to zoom on the Apple Watch’s screen: double tap with
two fingers to zoom, use two fingers to pan around, and double tap while
dragging to adjust the zoom.
• There will also be accessibility settings to reduce motion, control stereo
audio balance, reduce transparency, switch to grayscale mode, disable system
animations, and enable bold text.

If you have custom ringtones on your 4S and they were not purchased from
iTunes you must have used iTunes at one point since that is the only way to
get ringtones onto an iPhone. You would have to have these ringtones in your
iTunes library on the computer or at least have them somewhere so you can
add them again to iTunes and then sync then to your phone.

If you have music on your existing phone you could sign up for iTunes Match,
this would upload all your music to your iCloud account (it does not count
against your 5 Gb free storage) and then you can in turn download the music
again to your new phone. If you don't want to do that and if you don't have
the music on your computer so you can sync it again, the only way to get it
off your 4S is with a program like Copy Trans which incidently costs just as
much as a one-year iTunes Match subscription and is not the most accessible.

Apple may have done things and continues to do things to make it easier to
manage your iDevice without a computer and iTunes, but if you want to take
full advantage of your phone nothing beats syncing with and backing up to
iTunes using the encrypted backup option.

Hi,
I very rarely think that something about some Apple product or its apps are
annoying, however i think i’ve found something really annoying now. I use
the native Twitter app to read my time line and send tweets and the like.
When i close it it seems to take a random friend and post a notice to me
whenever that friend posts something regardless of the settings for
notifications. I only want notifications when someone, anyone mentions or
DMs me and not whenever a random person posts something. How do i make this
thing stop doing that and give me notifications when i want to have them?
I seem to remember from somewhere that you could get notifications from just
one person that you choose, but i can for the life of me not find that in
the settings for the native twitter app. Any help with this is appreciated.

everybody may not be aware, and I know sometimes I forget, that many of the
apps on i-devices do have settings that are not in the apps themselves but are
in the main Settings on the i-device. You have to go down the screen quite a
bit for some of them but they are right on the first level after you enter
settings; no need to go into a subcategory. If you have an app whose options
appear to be missing something, going to Settings and checking is always a good
idea.

Subject: Buying an iBook with iOS eight

Hi all. I found a possible iBook store bug. When trying to buy a book, when
you doubletap on the button that has the price etc, it does nothing. So I
double tapped on the book, then on the price, put in my password, then my
touch Id a few times. I thought it had worked, but when I went back in my
library, it said it was downloading, then disappeared. So, I went back in
the iBook store and saw the book I wanted to buy... and instead of it saying
I'd bought it, the price was there like I hadn't. Again, I couldn't double
tap on the button with the price, so went back into the book and there was
no button with the price again. Anyone successfully bought a book with IOS
8? How?

Thanks for any suggesttions.

An easier work-around is: touch the delete button. Take your finger away. Touch
the delete button again. Now, focus is properly on delete. Double-tap or
split-tap to activate the button. This bug was in iOS 5 as well and was fixed
then. Hopefully, Apple will find the cause soon and correct it.

Hi Charles,

You are correct in saying you have to go ahead and install it, but it will in
fact automatically download as long as your phone has enough space on it and it
is connected to WiFi and plugged in. A lot of people do plug their phone in
over night while it is connected to WiFi so if that is the case you will wake
up with iOS 8 downloaded to your phone. You can of course not install it, but
it will sit there taking up almost 2 Gb of space.

You don't delete the upgrade that is waiting for you. You either use it or you
don't. It's your choice. And no operating system will automatically download

  HI all,

I am a new IPhone owner so this question may be simplistic to many of you. I
have already had one update to install on my IPhone 5s; it showed up in the
notification area. I read somewhere that if you do not do these installs, they
will install automatically after a certain time period has passed. Will this
be the case with IOS8? Will it show up as an update in my notifications? If I
do not want to upgrade to IOS8 quite yet, will I have the option to delete the
upgrade? Thanks.

We will just have to wait and see, but the Apple Watch does run iOS so I don’t
see why it wouldn’t have Voiceover.

Here is a link to an article which compares the Apple Watch to existing and
other soon to be released smart watches:

http://www.fastcolabs.com/3035518/internet-of-things/how-does-the-apple-watch-compare-to-other-smartwatches

Also, when I read through the features of the watch on the Apple website, the
following was mentioned:

This device has not been authorized as required by the rules of the Federal
Communications Commission.

This device is not, and may not be, offered for sale or lease, or sold or
leased, until authorization is obtained.

Since it’s not out until early next year which I guess could mean anything from
January through April that shouldn’t be an issue.

Re: Fleksy Now Fully Accessible

2014-04-29 Thread Trea Abma
Yes, I like it very much. Tried it in tweetings and now I can use it for mail
too.

Subject: Re: Fleksy Now Fully Accessible

First, the menu isn't accessed that way. Instead, there are buttons across the
top of the screen to access the settings and sharing functions.

Second, note that the keyboard now takes up the lower part of the screen, just
like it does in regular iOS typing. I'm wondering if your accuracy problems are
due to this new position; I have no accuracy issues at all.

The problems I've found are that you cannot review your text, at least not that
I've found, and the numbers keyboard is rather awkward to use since it is not
the keypad shape anymore. As I said, though, this is the initial release of the
new Fleksy app with accessibility, and it will only get better from here, I
hope.

On Apr 29, 2014, at 6:13 PM, Chuck Dean cadean...@gmail.com wrote:

I agree... This version of Fleksy doesn't play with voice over very well. It
is also sluggish and the accuracy seems to have decreased.
I prefer to lock Fleksy VO in landscape position so I can use my thumbs to
type, but I cannot find this option in the newer update.
It seems that the people at Fleksy have forgotten their original mission...
To bring a accessible keyboard to the visually impaired. As of late they have
changed their focus to supplying a keyboard to the masses. Too bad.
I will continue to use Fleksy VO until my iPhone will no longer work with it,
then I guess I'll go back to dictation.

version has been released. I couldn't type with those versions with VoiceOver
going and I also can't with this latest version. I'm having to type this
message using Fleksy VO. When I upgraded and launched this latest Fleksy
keyboard version, the text from the last thing I had written with it was on the
screen and I was unable to delete it or to get to the Fleksy menu normally
accessed by swiping up with two fingers. The app still appears to have bugs for
those of us using VoiceOver but I'm curious if others are having the problems I
am. I will be reporting them to Fleksy support.

  Hi all,
Sorry if this is a repeat post, but earlier today, Fleksy announced
that their main app is accessible. There are still some VO issues they are
working on, but they say that, overall, VO users can use the regular app and
not need Fleksy VO anymore. This is way ahead of their projected six month
deadline, so good for them for getting this done so quickly. Best of all, the
accessibility carries over to their SDK, so apps that incorporate Fleksy will
have accessible typing as well, once they update to the latest version. Of
course, apps that come onboard after today will already have the accessibility.

Re: fleksy and tweetings

2014-04-28 Thread Trea Abma
You can add fleksy keyboard to tweetings and use it with voiceover. You can
type words and make fleksy learn and forget words you typed.
You need to have fleksy instaled. The fleksy app is used for this, not fleksyvo.

Perhaps the functions are limited at the moment for vo users; I didn’t manage
to type numbers and couldn’t edit my tweet: I only could delete words or start
all over again. I like it very much, because fleksy supports much more
languages than fleksy vo.

I'm a little confused by this message. I assume the poster must not be using
VoiceOver because I know only the Fleksy Keyboard app can be integrated with

Fleksy integration with anything won't mean much to blind users if it won't
work with VoiceOver.

I have a medically complex son and my cell phone is our life line to his

interested in upgrading BUT not until the accessibility bugs have been
worked out.

Looking forward to some of the new features of IOS 7.

It is downloadable with your phone as well through the usual way. I have

Perhaps I’m late to this party but I’ve never noticed this behavior before iOS
7.0.3. Now when I lock my iPhone 5s VoiceOver reports
that the device is locked just after the locking sound is heard but then it
feels the need to reiterate it to me some 9 seconds later. Has anyone else
seen this behavior now or in previous iOS versions and I’ve just missed it?
Might anyone have a clue why Apple would feel the need to have VoiceOver report
it two times in this manner? Thanks for any light anyone could shed on this
for me.

Is there any way at all of using FaceTime audio via speakerphone just

Ok, I will try to explain it better. :) If I hold a finger on a letter in
the keyboard too long, like say the letter, I get that sound and VO says

However, if I select the letter E, VO announces alternative Characters

select a character and if I slide my finger around VO tells me what these
characters are and I have no idea what they are. I am guessing this is some
characters for languages other than English. For every letter on the

whole thing baffles me though. :)

Somewhere somebody got the idea that nobody is willing to read

everybody wants to read in-depth documentation. But for those of us who

good discoverability is less than I'd like.

However, rather than go into details now, I'm holding my thoughts for a
while for exactly the reason John puts across in this note.

While I personally find this version of iOS way less discoverable I also
feel that not only is this just the first release of this incarnation of
iOS, but also I do think there needs to be more than a 24 hour period for
me to draw lasting conclusions about this, if for no other reason than
not all features are obvious to everyone at this point. So while I do
have my impressions, as we all do, I know there's a lot I'll be learning
as well.

So there's my point of view for the moment. :)

Thanks for all the great posts both from those who like / do not like iOS
7 so far.

That's part of what this list is for after all!

Thanks All and have a great night!…

Smiles,

Cara :)

3. There is a separate control for silencing VoiceOver sounds

5. Again, your opinion. There are a lot of changes to the interface that
make iOS 7 worth the upgrade. The handwriting feature, the 4-finger

to Calendars and Reminders, the new SIRI voices and the expansion of what
you can do with SIRI, and several others. Learn about iOS 7 and use it

It’s funny how I read posts like this with every iOS upgrade and Mac

button

Hi everyone,

I recommend flicking left and right to navigate through the BrailleTouch
menu. There are some items that do not fit on the screen in the menu, so
flicking will get you through all of them. (The menu is a Picker, which
is the same widget used in other apps such as setting alarm in the
iPhone clock app.)

The Clear Text button is near the bottom of the menu. This will erase
everything you have typed.

The Start Typing or Resume Typing button is always anchored to the
bottom of the screen. You can tap the bottom of the screen to jump to
this button at the end of the menu choices. From there you can then
flick to menu items that are further down the list such as Clear Text.
This might save people some time.

The text you typed is always anchored near the top of the screen on the
menu. You can tap this again to repeat the full text that you typed.

In the full version of BrailleTouch, the menu order is: Copy to
Clipboard, Paste from Clipboard, Send Text Message, Send Tweet, Set
Email Subject, Send Email, Clear Text, Help. Each of these choices is
only on the menu list if it is a relevant action at that time.

I hope this helps.

Hi Trea,

Thanks for your question. We use the built-in Apple screens for sending
emails, text messages, and tweets, which we are required as a developer
to do. The twitter screen appears by default in landscape. We did not
find a way prior to release to allow twitter to appear in portrait and
we thought it was not possible.

However I just tried Fleksy and the twitter screen does also work in
portrait. BrailleTouch and Fleksy use the same Apple-provided email,
text message, and twitter screens, per Apple's developer guidelines. So
we will work on this for the next update to BrailleTouch. Thanks for
asking, and I'm sorry that Twitter is not currently working in portrait.

Also we are looking at adding a Settings option for the next update that
will allow you to force portrait or force landscape on the email, text
message, and twitter screens, based on your personal preference.

Best,
Caleb

For those of you who may be interested, the new update has sadly not

The battery of my 3gs is not very good anymore, so I thought of buying a

I have no idea which iPods have voiceover on it. The touch and the shuffle I

What kind of Ipod should I look for?

Hi,

You can download the HQ voice on an iPad or iPod Touch just as you can on an

course WiFi has to be turned on as well. Only other explanation I can think of
why you might not get the HQ voice is because you are still on iOS 4.

Re: iPod

I am able to buy a cheep 4 in good condition, from a list member.
It’ss only for iBooks. I now use the 3gs for that.
I hope the speaker is as good as that of the 3gs?
That would be good enough for me.

The thing you really want to be aware of is that the speaker quality on the
iPod Touch 3rd or 4th generation is not very good.

the touch has the HQ voice. But if you plan to listen through the speaker, it
isn't very good.
The iPad 3 has the HQ voice and sounds really good.

There was a strange bug with iOS 5 where the HQ voice was always the US voice
Samantha. Even though you would have the default voice and region set to
another one. With all the iPads I tested I found this same behaviour under iOS
5 This was o all 3 generations of the iPad. It was weird i that even if you
didn't have the US voice enabled for the rotor, the Use compact voice toggle
would still appear in settings and would appear to do nothing. For me in
Australia I had the default voice set to my own region but never was abled to
get the HQ Karen voice. I was confused when I first got my new iPad because it
seemed like the use compact toggle did nothing, than when I added the US vice
to the rotor I noticed that it was this voice which was the HQ one.

Obviously the nature of the bug meant that those of you in the US would never
have noticed this issue.

In any case this bug has now been corrected under iOS6. It was with delight
that I got the HQ Karen voice on my iPad shortly after updating it.

Not sure if this has been discussed on list, but the new method of deleting
items (Flick up or down to select a custom action) does not just apply to the
mail app. It also works in the music and messages apps as well. I’ve tried it
on my iPhone 4s, and find it much easier than tapping edit, or swiping to
delete. Has anyone else come across this, and if so, what other apps have you
found this nifty feature to work in.

Re: Do Not Disturb

From: Neil Barnfather - TalkNav

Sent: Friday, September 21, 2012 9:18 AM

Subject: Re: Do Not Disturb

OK, as they say, the plot thickens here.

Firstly, I have Speak Notifications on the Lock Screen set to on, I have
just checked twice.

Secondly, my DND function works just fine, and Voice Over is not announcing
anything to me when it is enabled.

This perhaps could be one of those odd Voice Over Quirks like, for example,
when the screen curtain does, or does not, come back on when you power cycle
your device. For ages I had the screen curtain enabled, and whether I power
cycled or simply triple pressed the home key to turn Voice Over off and then
on again, the screen curtain would come right back on again.

All of a sudden, about 4 weeks ago, this stopped again, and if the phone was
power cycled or Voice Over turned off, the screen curtain would not
automatically resume its state.

I think with regards to DND it is very important that users understand there
are effectively two sets of options for this, two on / off switches if you
will.

Ignoring any setting in Notifications, you can on the fly turn DND on and
then off again straight from the primary Settings window.

You can also have DND set to come on and off automatically based on a
schedule.

What is important here is that you do not need to turn it on in the primary
Settings window if you are using the schedule.

So I have my DND set to come on at 22:00 and off at 07:00, I do not, in this
setup, need to also enable or disable the DND switch in the primary Settings
window. NOTE even if the primary control states off, DND maybe on, based on
the schedule you have set. Best practice is to check the status bar, just to
the left of the clock you will find Voice Over will announce a Moon symbol,
this is the DND icon. This icon comes and goes dependent on DND status.

With my DND switch in the primary Settings window set to off, at 22:00 hours
the moon symbol appeared bang on queue and went at 07:00.

Next, with DND, the default is to be notified by only folk in your
favourites list, you can change this to everyone, although quite why you'd
wish to do that, or no-one.

One thing that does intrigue me, is the option below this for Groups, There
is one group in there for me, All, yet, I have never realised, and indeed
found the options for, creating a group in iOS Contacts. Can anyone tell me,
is this possible?

Whilst I use the Favourites feature of the phone app, I would prefer a group
of family members so that I could add those to the DND function. These folk
though do not need to be in my favourite call list.

I hope that all this makes sense to those wishing to use DND.

Best wishes.

This will please some, I have my new iPhone 5 64gb here, when powering
it up, it now does that thing many of us like, it vibrates.

This is not an iOS6 feature, this is iPhone5.

Hi Kirstyn,

I can confirm this behavior, and like you, I find it annoying. So I'm
interested to know if this can be modified. It just started happening with
IOS6.

Hi all,
Funny problem with VO since updating to iOS six. I have the HQ issue of
course which everyone else seems to have talked about already. So I'm not
bothered about that. But I think, connected to this, is when I reboot my
phone, Daniel returns. This is my default because it is a British phone.
But I use Samantha as a matter of course. What do I need to do to keep
Samantha permanently? It will get irritating having to change it every
time. This never used to happen on 5.11. Do you think it will resolve
itself once I have the HQ voice back? It's been two days and I still
haven't got it though. Thanks

Kirsten

Hi,

Place three fingers anywhere on the screen, then bring them down towards the
bottom of the screen.
