RE: Linked in in the iPhone

2022-10-10 Thread R Van Lant
It’s doable for reading and replying to posts and messages. I have not tried to
update my profile on it. I find it a bit clunky when trying to find the right
buttons for sharing a post, but that might get easier if I did it more often.

Hi Jed,
difficult to identify the exact cause surrounding the issue that
you're facing. I got rid of the same problem by reinstalling the ap.
If you can figure it out with the help of a sighted person. See if it
works without voiceover.

Hey guys. This problem has me absolutely baffled, and it makes no

Re: major problem with the linked in app

2017-08-28 Thread Jed Barton
Hey there. Well, i've been using this app for years, literally. I
was literally messaging someone this afternoon with no problem. I've
tried everything, and it just dumps me out of the app, or atleast it
appears to. When i click on a message it puts me back on the page
from where i launched the linked in app. However, the app is still
open if i go to the app switcher. It only flips out when i click on a
message. this came out of nowhere, literally. Any ideas?

Re: major problem with the linked in app

2017-08-28 Thread Flor Lynch
This problem happens to me sometimes with another app, a podcatcher. When I
mentioned it to the developer, he told me that he could reproduce it when
using VoiceOver, and that it was an Apple bug. (It had to do with the
presence or detection of an onscreen ad. Not his exact words.)

Hey guys,
Do any of you use the linked in app? OK, so i am having an issue, and
it literally came out of nowhere. I've used the app a lot over the
years. Now every time i click on a message, it seems to shut down the
app. When i click on a message, it makes the sound like it opened the
message, but then it lands on the page of apps for my phone. This
makes no sense. Any ideas?

I installed the light version and it found my network and my external drives
without me having to do much at all. I did not have to go through manual set
up or anything. With the lite version, it lets you listen to a small
sampling of a file/files and then suggests for you to purchase the full
version, which I intend to do. This app is GREAT!

Hi,
I would just leave the password field blank. I would think that would work.
You could try with File Browser Light first before spending out on the paid
version.
Hope that helps,
Carla.

Hi All,
I've been having a play with File Browser. If you want to connect to your

works great and I find it a really useful App. I have now also managed to
connect to an external drive. Just need to share permissions and then
double tap the letter of the drive when you connect to your PC as it will
show up after successful connection.

Hope this helps,
Carla.

it? I'm guessing probably not but just curious.

Thanks,
Carla.

Re: File Browser and Tonido accessing external drives linked to a PC

2017-03-22 Thread Carla Savage
Hi All,
I've been having a play with File Browser. If you want to connect to your pc,
then it will ask for your name. So, in my case my username on my PC was Carla.
The password is the password you use to log into your PC. All works great and I
find it a really useful App. I have now also managed to connect to an external
drive. Just need to share permissions and then double tap the letter of the
drive when you connect to your PC as it will show up after successful
connection.
Hope this helps,
Carla.

Re: File Browser and Tonido accessing external drives linked to a PC

2017-03-09 Thread Carla Savage
Hi,
Yes I'm on the same wi-fi network. It does find my laptop and connects just
fine. I had a feeling that I needed to share those drives. I'll have another
play. Incidentally, how do you use File Browser to share on whatsapp? Still
haven't worked out how to do that as when I play an MP3, I only have the
option to play the file. Please enlighten me further.

To connect to my laptop, I put in my account name in the username field and
left the password blank. That seemed to work.
Many thanks for all your suggestions.
Take care,
Carla.

RE: File Browser and Tonido accessing external drives linked to a PC

2017-03-09 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
When I installed FileBrowser and let it scan it found my laptop, my D-Link
network attached drive and even my HP printer which I think has an SD card slot.
Not sure why it didn't see your computer and the connected drives, I haven't
actually managed to connect to my laptop yet because it is asking for a user
name and password and I have no idea what to put in there.
Anyhow, not that big a deal, now that Dropbox works again I still find myself
using the Dropbox and OneDrive apps more. Pretty nice, though, that I am able
to connect to my NAS with FileBrowser.

Tonido is not accessible with the latest update. You can access your drives,
but when you find a file you want to listen to and click the actions button,
you can't choose an action to perform. VoiceOver does not read this part
anymore, which is very upsetting to me.

Carla,

Are you trying to access files on a computer that is on the same wi-fi network
as your iPhone? I think that will be a requirement for you to be able to access
your computer files using FileBrowser and you will need to go into Windows
Explorer and access the drive or folder you want to share and select the share
with settings from the context menu.

File Browser and Tonido accessing external drives linked to a PC

2017-03-09 Thread Carla Savage
Hi,
I was wondering whether either Tonido or File Browser can access external
drives linked to a PC? I've tried File Browser and can only see my PC's C
drive. I can't see the other drive on the PC or the external drives. Is there a
way to get these to show up or am I asking too much?
Thanks for any help you can give.
Take care,
Carla.

Re: major linked in problems

I wouldn't have looked at it, either. I also didn't have time to follow the
accessibility link over the weekend as my second job got very busy. I'm glad we
learned this!

You're right. It is a huge and devastating bug!

I've seen an accessibility link when I've logged onto the web site on the
computer. We might want to see if there is an email contact link on that
page.

Jed,

progress at that time, but my acquaintance only took the job late last
fall. I'll try to get online to LinkedIn and message him to find out a

Yes, you can search for contacts, using criteria like places worked,
schools attended and so on. LinkedIn will also suggest different
people you can connect with. On the LinkedIn page, you can also point
to or upload your contacts from Outlook, Google and so on, and
LinkedIn will see if those people are already on LinkedIn and give you
the chance to connect with them. When you invite someone to connect
with you, after they accept your invitation, you'll get an email that
will also include suggestions from LinkedIn on who in their connections
you might want to connect to.

You can also look at your connection's connections and extend an
invitation to any of them if you want to.

Re: Linked in question.

2014-02-26 Thread Van Lant Family
Being on LinkedIn is a good professional move. I've been contacted by
recruiters based on my experience. Be aware that this is intended for
professional networking, so you really want to be sure that your profile
looks clean. Don't let the accessibility issues of the site or app hurt
your professional image; ask a sighted person to give your profile a visual
review. Every person should do this, regardless of whether they are
visually impaired. This is an online resume.

While the apps and websites are not greatly accessible, the good news is
that Linked In recently hired a totally blind person to advise them on
accessibility. He's a guy I know from past professional and recreational
activities and I think he'll be a great advocate for us. My recollection is
that he just moved to the job in last fall. I'll let you all know if I
connect with him and have an update on his attack plan for improving
accessibility.

Yes, you can search for contacts, using criteria like places worked,
schools attended and so on. LinkedIn will also suggest different people
you can connect with. On the LinkedIn page, you can also point to or
upload your contacts from Outlook, Google and so on, and LinkedIn will see
if those people are already on LinkedIn and give you the chance to connect
with them. When you invite someone to connect with you, after they accept
your invitation, you'll get an email that will also include suggestions
from LinkedIn on who in their connections you might want to connect to.
You can also look at your connection's connections and extend an
invitation to any of them if you want to.

I use Linked-in, but not very much. It’s possible to add people to your
network. actually I got an invite from somebody I knew. we were both access
Technology trainers, so that was a good starting point. Then some of my friends
joined. You can fiddle around on the website, but it’s kind of messy. You can
answer questions about your contacts, mostly about whether they are proficient
at certain skills, etc., which is called “endorsing”. I’d say it’s worth a try
from a professional standpoint, but otherwise it could be skipped. Email
notifications are pretty useful, since the links in the emails bring you to
specific pages, where you can add contacts, endorse people, etc.

It’s good to know about the app. I don’t guess I’ll be trying it.

Anyone experiencing these truly infuriating iPhone issues: dumped out of apps, inability to view videos or listen to podcasts in appps, etc., silence when trying to access articles linked in apps

2014-01-05 Thread Christine Grassman
For the past few weeks, whenever I link to an article on Facebook, Twitter,
Search It, etc., VoiceOver starts reading, then goes completely silent and
freezes. I am then forced to exit out and go back in to double-click on the
desired link, which then acts the same way, or wait a moment or two for the
information to load, which it does every so often.
Also, whereas I used to be able, with no problem, to play podcasts or YouTube
links from within Facebook, Twitter, etc., now I am shown that the track
position is changing, that the time is elapsing, but there is no sound.
I have tried running the battery down and recharging, shutting down the iPhone
and restarting, closing all apps, then reopening desired ones to reach what I
wish to read or listen to, but nothing is working.
Often, I am simply dumped to the home screen after VO freezes me out.

2014-01-05 Thread Scott Blanks
You've very likely already exhausted these options, but make sure you are
updated to the latest version of iOS. Also, have you tried doing a hard
shutdown of the phone? I'm using a 4S, so this might differ on a newer model,
but holding down the home button and the lock button on top of the phone for
several seconds will turn off the phone. Start up the phone in the usual
manner, and hopefully your problem will be alleviated.

Also, sometimes IOS stops to catch up or something. I remember David wrote a
great post on this a way backe. Because of his post I try to hold off touching
the screen when IOS goes off to see if it rights itself age. Can't tell you the
name of the subject so can't send you to the archives, but it has to do with
touching the screen and it trying to do your command when it is resetting
itself. Not a techie and don't really have the words for this, but that is what
I gleaned from David's description. May even not have anything to do with what
is going on with your device but thought I'd try and help a bit anyway. Sorry

2014-01-05 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Unless your phone isn't responding at all, I'd avoid the forced shutdown
by holding down the home and lock button and just do a normal shutdown
by holding down the lock button until the dialog pops up asking if you
want to shutdown the phone. Maybe these two types of shutdown are
different, but if they're not, a graceful shutdown, when it's available,
will be safer.

Re: Anyone experiencing these truly infuriating iPhone issues: dumped out of apps, inability to view videos or listen to podcasts in appps, etc., silence when trying to access articles linked in apps

2014-01-05 Thread Joanne Chua
Depends on what version of os you using and also what hardware you have. I
found the similar issue with certain apps, Facebook in particular. It works for
a minute or two, then it crashes. Sometime is the problem with VO itself,
trying to catch up with the app, and sometime it crash totally.
I also found that when you open the app , the app is refreshing the content,
while voiceover still trying to read on where got highlighted on previous
session.
My observation is with ios7.4 and the latest facebook app, with vo and sight.
The crashes usually happen with the ipad more so than the iphone.

Linked in

Does anyone know how LinkedIn works? I've tried to move around it and I have

Re: Linked in

2013-11-30 Thread Teresa Cochran
It’s a lot like the
facebook site; hit and miss. You have to find each entry for your friends and
find the endorse area. then a bunch of questions pop up: “is Joan good with
numbers? Is John good with sales?” etc. It’s kind of tricky, but I’ve done it a
couple of times. I won’t be able to give you specific instructions at this
time, because honestly, I hunted and pecked around. Many of the options have
menus that pop up when you activate them, so you may have to go to the bottom
of the page to find them.

can accept requests to connect and check updates. thats about it.
