It isn’t a deal breaker..Another thing that I have noticed; I’ a member of the
VI iPhone group. The first time when starting to read the email voiceover will
pronnnounce the group name as 6 iPhone. After that voiceover pronounces the
group name as V I iPhone.

  Richard,

I'm using the enhanced version of iOS Samantha. I use it for pretty much
everything on my phone. (Sidenote: I like Alex, but am not sure why there is so
much enthusiasm there.) I just checked the keyboard again and it pronounces the
word emoji normally.

Hi mark and List,

I'm also experiencing this emoji mispronunciation issue on my iPhone 7 running
iOS 11.2.6 and using Samantha enhanced voice. As Sieghard has said, I expect
this should be fairly easy to correct but why it happened in the first place is
perplexing. I get this bizarre pronunciation of emoji whenever VoiceOver speaks
that word whether I come across it in settings, on one of my keyboards, or
within the body of this email. Since I'm still using iOS 11.2.6, it seems as if
it isn't an iOS version issue.

 Hey Donna,

This is indeed strange; I have two iDevices, each with iOS 11.3 installed - an

The iPhone has the Emoji pronunciation issue concerning this thread, the iPad

Thanks, Richard. I do use the Samantha voice, so that’s interesting to know
other voices may say it correctly. With all screen readers, I find it
interesting how different synthesizers are “taught” to say things. Sometimes
my synthesizer choice for Window Eyes or Jaws butchers something my iphone
voice says correctly and sometimes it’s the other way around.

This is truly fascinating. I just installed Samantha Enhanced and it does the
strange new pronunciation which is about 5 or 6 syllables.
So, for me, Samantha Enhanced, Tom Enhanced, and Siri Female all do this
strange new combination of emodican and emogi sort of.
But, being in the US if I switch to Australian Karen, it uses the old familiar
two syllable word.
This is so strange I may take the time later to call Apple Accessibility and
have them listen to it and see what they say.

Richard

I find it very strange that some have the problem while others using the same

2018-04-11 Thread Richard Turner
I just called Apple Accessibility and had the support person listen to my work
phone's pronunciation of Emoji.
I demonstrated that the Karen voice said it correctly, but Tom and the Siri
Female did not.
She tried it on her phone, and Samantha said it correctly.
But, since she heard mine, she will report it to the engineers.
I decided having someone hear it would be better than trying to explain it in
writing.
But, sending in written reports certainly could help.

Re: emoticon button label since version 11.3 upgrade

2018-04-11 Thread Richard Turner

This is truly fascinating. I just installed Samantha Enhanced and it does the
strange new pronunciation which is about 5 or 6 syllables.
So, for me, Samantha Enhanced, Tom Enhanced, and Siri Female all do this
strange new combination of emodican and emogi sort of.
But, being in the US if I switch to Australian Karen, it uses the old familiar
two syllable word.
This is so strange I may take the time later to call Apple Accessibility and
have them listen to it and see what they say.
Later,
Richard

Richard,

I'm using the enhanced version of iOS Samantha. I use it for pretty much
everything on my phone. (Sidenote: I like Alex, but am not sure why there is so
much enthusiasm there.) I just checked the keyboard again and it pronounces the
word emoji normally.

It seems to be saying something like a combination of emodican and the old word
emoji together.
So, if you want to change its pronunciation, you could add it to the dictionary
under VoiceOver, Speech, pronunciations. I substituted a g for the j so it says
emogi, which is still slightly different, but only two syllables at least.

I'd also write Apple Accessibility and tell them you want the old pronunciation
back.

Apparently, Apple employees never check what these things sound like when just
using VoiceOver. I did the 3 finger quadruple tap to copy what it was saying
and pasted it into a note to then try spelling it out letter by letter. It is
spelled the same as before: e m o j i.
It seems to be saying something like a combination of emodican and the old word
