Hi.
You can also buy a da converter that enables you to connect digital
audio to the converter and from the converter you can use rca analog
cables to your stereo. That way you do not need to have the tv on for
playing music or youtube videos. However, if you want to have the
audio from a movie
I got the digital converter box as well. I got mine at Radio Shack for
around 30 bucks.

Thanks to everyone who made suggestions.
For some reason, our HD TV doesn’t have audio out jacks other than the Digital
Audio out.
So, after looking at the different converter boxes and reading reviews, I’ve
just ordered the FiiO D3 DAC.
It is $23.99 with free shipping.
I ordered it through
If you have the latest Apple TV, it will have an HDMI port, the rectangle one
that feels like a USB. You can do what I did and buy a little box that connects
to the port and then use a patch cord to run the audio to your RCA jacks on the
stereo. The RCA jacks are the pair of inputs. This little
There are adaptors but I don't know how they work.

Hi Rob,
As Larry pointed out, HDMI and Optical out are the only outputs on the Apple
TV. If you plan to connect your Apple TV to your LCD TV via HDMI and you have a
pair of powered speakers connected to your TV's optical audio ot then yes, this
should work as long as you are able to switch

You may be the individual who can assist me in answering my question about
how best to get decent sound out of my Apple TV. However, I understand this
may not be the proper list for such a question. So if this is beyond the
scope of this list please feel free to write me off list and

optical plugged into a surround sound amplifier.

Thank you guys,
I’ve read that you can have more than one apple ID with an Apple tv, but how
does it work with more than one iTunes library? Would this be a case of using
airplay again?
It’s pretty cool that Apple PBS just struck a deal. :)

Traci,
Most definitely. You can stream anything that will use AirPlay. In the
case of an IOS 7 device if a particular app doesn't have a specific
AirPlay button, you can activate AirPlay from the control center.

I do have the app and also an Amazon Prime account. I just checked to
make sure and the answer is yes. I was able to play a movie from my
watch list via AirPlay to my apple TV. No problems whatsoever.
