RE: Whose cellular data is being used on a Facetime call?

2020-01-28 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
It is like with any Voip service, quality is much better than a regular phone
call especially if both parties are using a fast LTE or WiFi connection.
Also, if you have people around the world you speak to where despite the huge
drop in long distance rates it still costs money, then using Facetime Audio (or
Facetime which means with video) or any other service such as Skype, Facebook
Messenger, WhatsApp etc. makes a lot of sense. As long as you are on WiFi the
call is free, I could be sitting at the airport in Manila or Singapore and call
my friend in Germany without having to pay a cent.
As for audio vs video, an audio only connection uses less data and there are
times when I really don't need or want video such as on Sunday morning when my
friend calls from Germany and I'm still lying in bed in my PJ's.

I do facetime calls with a friend of mine and we are both using WIFI.
I usually do audio facetime calls with my friend, although I have done a
facetime video call with my sister a couple of times.

Joshua and all.

I too find that Face Time calls are much clearer than regular calls. I use Face
Time when calling an iPhone. Audio calls use less battery than video. The only
thing I don't like about Face Time is that a caller can not leave voice mail.

Re: Whose cellular data is being used on a Facetime call?

2020-01-28 Thread Steve Matzura
The answer is simple and should end all discourse. If a handset--phone,
tablet--is on a Wi-Fi network, it's off the cellular grid and no charges
occur. Reverse the conditions--phone is not on a Wi-Fi network--the data
meter is running. It has nothing whatsoever to do with who is on a call,
whether it's telephone, FaceTime, WhatsApp, Periscope, Backpack Studio,
Google Duo, YouTube, Downcast, Overcast, Apple or Google Maps, iCloud
Drive, Spotify, Apple Music, or any application that accesses data
wirelessly. It's only to do with the network which the individual phone
is using. Home Wi-Fi (and some public Wi-Fi networks) are free; the
network provided by the cell phone service provider allows a certain
amount of data to be transferred per month, after which any additional
data transfer is charged to the customer account according to a
published fee schedule. Short version: If I'm talking to you on Zello
and I'm on a Wi-Fi network and you're not, my usage is free, while yours
is running up the bytes against your monthly cellular network data
allotment.

Dear Allen & list:

Rather than guess at who pays for data used by a Facebook call, you are best to
just ask your cellular airtime provider. Then to will know for sure.

Yes, it’s wisest to only take or make Facebook calls when on WIFI.

Mote that some WIFI networks block the ports used for Facebook & Skype. This is

I do facetime calls with a friend of mine and we are both using WIFI.
I usually do audio facetime calls with my friend, although I have done a
facetime video call with my sister a couple of times.

RE: Whose cellular data is being used on a Facetime call?

2020-01-28 Thread Anne West
I go into the My Verizon app and look at data usage for everyone on my plan.
Other carriers will be different. The info is current when checking.

How can I set a limit of 900 Mag to my cellular data for a billing cycle?

The reason I am asking this for is that my new plan gives me cellular data of

Is there a way that I can tell the system stop using cellular data when the

RE: Whose cellular data is being used on a Facetime call?

2020-01-28 Thread Alan Lemly
Pramit,

Thanks very much for these helpful setting instructions for managing a low
cellular data plan. Ive set up a recurring Outlook reminder to reset my
cellular data statistics on the first day of each month my billing plan changes
and I've got low cellular data turned on.

For users with monthly data cap, the easiest way to keep a check on data limit
is to Reset Usage Statistics of the Cellular Data on monthly basis and to do
this just go to Settings > Cellular > Scroll down and you'll get find Reset
Statistics.

Also Enable the low data mode for cellular data by going through Settings >
Cellular > Cellular Data option > Scroll Down and Enable Low data mode.

With the above 2 options one can easily keep a track on the cellular data
usage, also less data will be utilized.

Hope this helps!

Pramit

Yes, it’s wisest to only take or make Facebook calls when on WIFI.

How can I set a limit of 900 Mag to my cellular data for a billing cycle?

The reason I am asking this for is that my new plan gives me cellular data of

Is there a way that I can tell the system stop using cellular data when the

Hi List,

I've recently learned that Facetime also has an audio calling feature when

a Facetime call is being charged for cellular data if they are not on wifi? I
normally would expect the one initiating the call would be charged but I'm not
sure both parties aren't being charged which is why I'm asking.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Whose cellular data is being used on a Facetime call?

2020-01-27 Thread PRAMIT BHARGAVA
For users with monthly data cap, the easiest way to keep a check on data
limit is to Reset Usage Statistics of the Cellular Data on monthly basis
and to do this just go to Settings > Cellular > Scroll down and you'll get
find Reset Statistics.
Also Enable the low data mode for cellular data by going through Settings >
Cellular > Cellular Data option > Scroll Down and Enable Low data mode.

With the above 2 options one can easily keep a track on the cellular data
usage, also less data will be utilized.

Hope this helps!

Re: Whose cellular data is being used on a Facetime call?

2020-01-27 Thread Nimer Jaber
Hello,

Yes, each person is being charged, as both parties are using data. If you
are on WiFi, though, you should not be charged for data.

Thanks.

RE: Whose cellular data is being used on a Facetime call?

2020-01-27 Thread Alan Lemly
Hi Anna,

I suspect you're right. So since my cellular data plan is extremely limited, I
don't want to participate in a Facetime call unless I'm on my wifi network.

Hi alan,

My guess is that each person is charged for the data they use.

Best,

Whose cellular data is being used on a Facetime call?

2020-01-27 Thread Alan Lemly
Hi List,

I've recently learned that Facetime also has an audio calling feature when
contacting someone with an Apple device. Facetime calls are routed over the
internet as opposed to using cell plan minutes. My question is which caller
on a Facetime call is being charged for cellular data if they are not on
wifi? I normally would expect the one initiating the call would be charged
but I'm not sure both parties aren't being charged which is why I'm asking.

Thanks in advance.
