RE: stopping dictation
This hits on my frustration since upgrading to 16.x. I find that Siri no longer recognizes commands I've been using for years - -or it takes a couple tries to get it right. It's really frustrating. I already reported to them that I have trouble hearing the tone that indicates Siri is listening. When I'm in a car or anywhere with some background noise, I cannot tell if she's started listening. Apple accessibility said they forwarded my concern on, since there is currently no way to change those tones. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of deidreandlou...@gmail.com Sent: Wednesday, November 30, 2022 9:19 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: stopping dictation Siri is not good at recognizing :natural" speech; it often has a particular syntax it wants. RE: stopping dictation
I have gotten this as well, but it's very rare and typically if I then repeat my request to call whoever it is I want to call it will then be fine. It's the same when my phone is locked and I use my wired headset to ask Siri to call somebody, sometimes I get "You have to unlock your device first". This of course is nonsense so usually I just ask again and it then works. To me these are minor glitches, but the issue with the magic tap being relatively unreliable hopefully gets more attention and a fix as long as enough people contact Apple Accessibility about it. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Tom Rash Sent: Wednesday, November 30, 2022 5:27 AM To: Viphone Subject: Re: stopping dictation Also, I notice that when I say, “call Tom Smith,” Siriwill reply, “What do you want to know about Tom Smith.” -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list. RE: stopping dictation
What is key in reporting issues, is that Apple receives reports from lots of different people. Multiple reports from the same person on the same issue does nothing but take up time. If only a handful of people are reporting an issue, it could be something with their particular setup so Apple won't prioritize that. However, if lots of different people report the same issue, then it is clear to them it is not an isolated issue. Just my thoughts. Re: stopping dictation
You would figure that since Siri can actually sound like a natural voice that it would pick up on natural speech and yes, I have reported this numerous times since 16 came out to Apple accessibility and I get no response, nor anything to do with how to troubleshoot it and except one time where they said they couldn’t replicate the issue. Even my mom and dad are not sight impaired, and they have a hard time using it even the dictation wrapping this around back to the dictation subject. RE: stopping dictation
Siri is not good at recognizing :natural" speech; it often has a particular syntax it wants. I think Siri recognizes "dial" such and such a person. Even so, I've had to change names in my contacts before because even if I only have one Michael, Siri sometimes comes up with a short list of other names completely unrelated. I find that most annoying too. RE: stopping dictation
Yeah Siri gets quite a blot of that stuff screwed up since 16. I haven't done any updates since 16 because though there might have been some minor bug fixes with voice over and dictation, I do not want to be further disappointed. I often send messages on my back up old phone that has no phone service because I can still add to Siri dictated messages outside the message app and it will add to them without losing the first part of the already dictated message, which is what Siri now does. Losing those functions kind of defeat using Siri in such a context, that is, more spontaneously without having to go into the message app. Maybe it has to do with the function capacity of the SE 2nd generation phone. I realize that I can one finger double tap to stop dictation, assuming that focus hasn’t moved from that button, but it seems to me that I’ve been using a two-finger double tap for years. As of late, doing this gesture out of muscle memory often starts the music player on my phone. Even if I do another two finger double tap to stop the music, I’m still in dictation mode. I found it easiest to open the ap switcher and go back to the app, which disrupted dictation for me. So, does anyone else use a two-finger double tap to stop dictation and notice this as a change? I’ve also noticed that Siri is getting dumber than prior years as well. for example, I will tell it to open Paramount plus and it will tell me I’m sorry it looks like you don't have Paramount plus and then it tells me to search for it on the store when in fact, I have to trick it by saying launch Paramount+, which it usually works and I say usually because sometimes it doesn’t. Re: stopping dictation
You know, what I’ve noticed, is that when I start dictation it works very well, but when I try to add dictation it’s still locked me up in dictation mode until I have to keep doing the two finger double tap. It’s weird I’ve never had that issue with music except for once when I had the music app open and I was dictating a message. I figured that was my error.Sent from my iPhoneOn Nov 29, 2022, at 8:13 PM, Katrina Anderson wrote:Since IOS 16.1, the 2-finger double tap to stop dictation frequently starts music. RE: stopping dictation
Hi I have found this but not using the 2 finger dubble tap to stop dictation but it does start music going. I have found though that trying to stop dictation andthen having vo read back what you have dictated doesn’t always work but I think that this is a bug starting in ios 16 and it hasn’t been squoshed yet. Wondering if it’s just me. I often dictate using the dictate button to the left on the keyboard. Either that, or my latest birthday has send my brain into some weird memory void. For now, I’m trying to retrain myself to the one finger double tap.
