RE: Alexa iPhone app broken

2024-01-17 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Sarai,

Okay, so you are, in fact, using Alexa to control the Thermostat, manually, (or
on the fly), so to speak.

So, in short, for those on the list who are not familiar with Smart
thermostats, the problem you are encountering has to do with the automated
function of the app. This is to say, at present, you can no longer schedule an
automatic start and stop time for the thermostat to engage / disengage.

Again, for those who have not used such a feature: If, for example, I know
that I want to take a morning shower, every day at 4AM, at which time I know
that my house will be particularly cold, I can schedule the thermostat to
engage at 3:45AM and then automatically disengage at 4:15AM, on a daily basis.

Yes, Sarai, the bug you've encountered is definitely an accessibility setback
but not so dire as I first feared.

I recently reported a slightly different Home Kit thermostat bug to Apple; said
bug having to do with how VoiceOver users can no longer set a temperature
range, independently of each point in the range in the latest release of iOS.
Again, a bit of a setback but not a proverbial dealbreaker, by any means.

I am so glad to learn that you can manually control your device via Alexa, if
nothing else, and stay warm.

Mark

Hi Mark:
My work around is to use Aira or to tell Alexa to set it. Unfortunately I need
to adjust the schedule that was pre-set by me due to cold temps. I had someone
sighted adjust that part. Definitely a step back.

Without more information about this thermostat, it is hard to say. However, a
lot of these thermostats are usable by Elexa or Siri. If this person has the
app on there phone or computer, go into the settings of it and find the model
and name of it so we can help. I'd venture to say it can be used by Siri as
well as Elexa, but I can't be 100% until I see the brand and model number and
what heating equipment it is being used on. Then some research can be done to
help.

Re: Alexa iPhone app broken

2024-01-17 Thread David Grossoehme
How cold is the temperature where you are at.  If you have a heat pump
then the thermostat has gone to what is called emergency heat and run
longer then what you have set in the thermostat.  You should have gotten
an error message that the unit has run too long.  If Ecobee is on your
phone, then go into the settings and see if it has gone to the Wait
Mode.  Do you receive anything from Elexa when giving her a command.  I
own 2 Ecobee thermostats and they can be set to use Siri as well as
Elexa to command them.  You just need to change the settings on the
app.  Good luck.

RE: Alexa iPhone app broken

2024-01-17 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Sarai,

I simply hate the idea of you no longer having access to your thermostat. Have
you come up with a workaround? Is there someone in your home who can, in fact,
set the thermostat on your behalf? Until you can find a solution?

It may sound funny but is the Amazon thermostat compatible with either the
Google assistant? Or Apple Home Kit? Do not assume the answer is, "No." Can
you adjust the controls of the thermostat via Alexa? I did some checking and
Alexa should be able to accept voice commands for the device.

I do not know your situation but please remember that there are a lot of
non-touchscreen thermostats on the market and I am certain that you can find
one from a local hardware store or online.

As I have stated in previous posts, when purchasing household critical
appliances such as thermostats, washer / dryer, stoves, make certain that the
device can be operated via hardware controls because one never knows when Smart
access will be broken.

Please keep us posted on this.

Mark

Hi:
Amazon basics thermostat use to work fie for scheduling home, away and sleep
times. Now you cannot set a scheduled event nor adjust thermostat, not even
with screen recognition.
Open Alexa.
Choose devices.
Choose your thermostat.
Tap view or edit schedule button.
Then press the touchable action button. Nothing happens.
They've rearranged the app.

Re: Alexa iPhone app broken

2024-01-16 Thread David Grossoehme
When you say basic thermostat you need to give more details of the type
of thermostat.  We know it is a smart thermostat, but is it for heat
only, or heat and air conditioning?  What type of service is it being
used on?  Is it a 3 stage heating and cooling system, which has a heat
pump in the heating and cooling system? One thing to try to begin with
is, try turning it off and then back on.  It's possible it needs a
recycling of the service. There will be a 7 minute delay from when you
shut it off until the system of your heating service completely shuts
down.  I'd wait a few minutes after the 7 minute delay and wait up until
15 minutes after you control the unit down before restarting it.

Re: Alexa iPhone app broken

2024-01-16 Thread David Grossoehme
Is this a problem from the start of using the Elexa Basic Thermostat, or
have you been using it for awhile and it just stopped?  Are you using
other devices in your household with Elexa or is this the only device?
If you have been using the thermostat for sometime, how did it stop working?

Hello Sarai,

Can you be more specific on how the app is broken?

This is to say, can you provide the steps to recreate the problem?

Also, does the Amazon basics thermostat have hardware buttons by which to
control the device? Or is it all touch screen? Do you no longer have access to
the device? This is to say, can you no longer control the device at all?

Thank you,

Mark

Hi all:
If you have the Amazon basics thermostat and try and set schedule or temp with
the Alexa iPhone app, you cannot. Looks like they broke it.

2019-01-03 Thread Jeff Samco

You can search in the App Store for the exact title:
Amazon Alexa
and you will see it is developed by
AMZN Mobile LLC

Hello again everyone,

I was wondering, how would I go about finding
the Amazon Alexa App, for the iPhone?
I tried to search for it. But I don’t feel I
am getting the results I need. Just a bit confused here.

What sorts of things can this App do?
I have a fire tablet, and a fire TV. Not an
actual TV, but the box, that is bigger than the fire stick.

Thank you for any help or suggestions.
