Mary,

Thanks for the answer :)
If I'm not going wrong, this is running iOS 10. But it's been a while since I
last played with the toy so I'm really not sure.

I don’t think so. You’d need to buy the newer 7th Generation one. Nevertheless
try updating to see up to what iOS version it goes up to. I’d say maybe it goes
up to 9 or ten?

You would have to get a new iPod to update to the latest iOS. The sixth
generation iPod I believe does work on iOS 12, but not the fifth. And whether
the sixth Jan will work on iOS 13 is as yet unknown of course.

My experience is just like yours, richard. My first device was also an iPod
touch third-generation, and I loved it. That is after I got used to the
touchscreen. Typing was particularly challenging. I was just hoping for a
better processor, because I have an iPhone 7 Plus which is pretty much acting
like an iPod touch now. Had they put a better processor in it, I probably would
have gone for one. But with the iPhone 7 Plus, I don’t see the point.

I know people complain why Apple didn't put their latest A12 chip into

No, the iPod Touch is only a Wi-Fi device, with no cellular capacity.

You can do FaceTime audio or video calls over Wi-Fi, or Skype.

But, you can use any app on the iPod Touch that you can use on the iPhone if it
does not require cellular data.

Going from an iPod Touch 5th Gen to this newly announced model would be a huge
difference, the 5th generation iPod touch has an A5 chip which is even a step
down from the iPhone 5 which had an A6 chip which means it was far from
supporting 64 Bit.
I know people complain why Apple didn't put their latest A12 chip into the iPod
Touch, but the same people would probably complain if Apple did and it would
cost $50 or $80 more, also, I have a feeling that for what most people use an
iPod Touch for simply does not require such a powerful processor.

It has a 4 inch screen, same as the iPhone 5 or 5S, but a bit smaller than a
6/6s/7 or 8, also thinner and apparently even the newest iPod Touch still has a
3.5mm headphone jack.

No, the iPod Touch is only a Wi-Fi device, with no cellular capacity.
You can do FaceTime audio or video calls over Wi-Fi, or Skype.
But, you can use any app on the iPod Touch that you can use on the iPhone if it
does not require cellular data.

RE: New iPod touch announced

2019-05-30 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I once kept my old iPhone, the 5S at the time, after I got my 6S. I thought I
could use it at home just like an iPod Touch, but I quickly realized that this
arrangement was not for me. I ended up always using my 6S, I found it
inconvenient to update both devices and even though Audible books play fairly
seamlessly on another device where you left off, it occasionally does not work,
then I have to find my spot and so on. I appreciate how some may find it just
right to have an iPhone and an iPad or iPod Touch, but for me having my iPhone
and my PC is equally perfect. As far as phone calls and such interrupting when
I listen that is perfectly fine for me, if I listen to a book and somebody
calls I want to stop the book anyways so if it stops automatically and then
continues to play when I hang up that is I think pretty sweet. When it comes to
music then I almost always listen via Sonos at home and if I do listen on my
iPhone and somebody calls the same applies, I would want my music to stop
anyways. I much prefer to maybe get a new battery installed if I use the one on
my iPhone a lot and recharge it a lot, still much cheaper than to pay hundreds
of Dollars for a device which is basically the same as what I have with less
features.

Best regards,
Sieghard

Going from an iPod Touch 5th Gen to this newly announced model would be a
huge difference, the 5th generation iPod touch has an A5 chip which is even a
step down from the iPhone 5 which had an A6 chip which means it was far from
supporting 64 Bit.
I know people complain why Apple didn't put their latest A12 chip into the
iPod Touch, but the same people would probably complain if Apple did and it
would cost $50 or $80 more, also, I have a feeling that for what most people
use an iPod Touch for simply does not require such a powerful processor.

You could possibly use it for beta testing if you're into that. Or a
streaming device. Yeah I don't know why they did the A7 instead of the A11 or
A12.

They should at least have put in the A11 chip.

much of my iPhone’s battery for media! Just now, for instance, in a little over
an hour, or so that it took me to clear out a bunch of podcasts and listen to
several,my phone’s battery went down from a 100% to 60% also when reading,
listening to podcasts or other media on the phone, I turn off the speech, and
switch the phone to mute so as not to be interrupted. I sure with there were a
way to get my hands on one without having to bother my parents into! My uncle’s

2019-05-30 Thread Richard Turner

The iPod Touch is geared for people who either do not want a cell phone; or
want a device to use for non-phone functions like music, books, games, etc.
My first accessible Apple device was the iPod touch 3rd generation because I
did not want an iPhone in those days.
That was 10 years ago this November.
It took several years before I decided I wanted an iPhone.
Part of the reason back then was I didn't want to spend money on a cell phone
plan.
I've had lots of clients over the years that went with either an iPod Touch or
iPad because they did not want or couldn't afford, the cell phone plan.

2019-05-29 Thread Richard Turner
No, the iPod Touch is only a Wi-Fi device, with no cellular capacity.
You can do FaceTime audio or video calls over Wi-Fi, or Skype.
But, you can use any app on the iPod Touch that you can use on the iPhone if it
does not require cellular data.

HTH,

Earlier this year, they released the iPad mini five, with the A 12 chip. That

Well, I would not have minded a $50 price increase for a better chip which
would mean more updates. Also, they should’ve made the entry level 64. They’re
just being cheap. My guess is that in two years, that thing is not going to be
seeing updates any more. Then what?

Re: New iPod touch announced

2019-05-29 Thread Richard Turner

For comparison, the iPod touch 6th generation has the A8 chip, the new touch
has the A10 chip. The iPhone SE has the A9 chip; so the new Touch can do all
the Augmented Reality visual stuff, etc.
It would appear to still have a home button, 3.5 MM earphone Jack, etc.
Just out of curiosity, I checked for refurbished iPod Touch 6th generation
touches and a 128 GB model is $215 while a new Touch with the same memory is
$299.
I guess it depends on what one will be doing with it whether it would be worth
it.

You could possibly use it for beta testing if you're into that. Or a streaming
device. Yeah I don't know why they did the A7 instead of the A11 or A12.
They should at least have put in the A11 chip.

Earlier this year, they released the iPad mini five, with the A 12 chip. That

It's basically a less feature rich iPhone 7, but at iPad Mini/ cheap iPad Air
prices.
That and come on Apple. What are you doing still selling anything new with 32
GB?

Re: New iPod touch announced

2019-05-29 Thread 'RobH.' via VIPhone
I was hoping to know size, seeif they do a baby tablet, about the size of the
don't know modern sizes, say 6"or so, bigger
than they used to be for sure.

But you're right, the price graduations make it impractical to be honest.

Thanks, RobH.

Subject: New iPod touch announced

I thought I would pose this question, since Apple just announced the update of
the iPod touch today. It will have the a10 processor,
the same one that is in an iPhone 7 or 7+. That makes it two years old going on
three, just like my iPhone 7 Plus. No other
significant changes that I am aware of, except the space. The cheapest one has
32 GB for $200, 128 for 300, and 256 for 400. Earlier
this year, they released the iPad mini five, with the A 12 chip. That is the
current chip. I can’t remember the prices for iPad
mini, but my gut reaction when I saw this, it was that Apple was cheeping out.
They should have given us at least the A 11 if not
the 12th. I am really disappointed. I was looking forward to perhaps purchasing
an iPod touch, but now that I see that it has the
same processor as my iPhone 7 Plus, forget it.

Re: New iPod touch announced

2019-05-28 Thread Cristobal Munoz
Thoroughly unimpressed. You’re better off grabbing an iPhone 7 or snagging a
new iPad mini on sale or even an iPad air.

You could possibly use it for beta testing if you're into that. Or a streaming
device. Yeah I don't know why they did the A7 instead of the A11 or A12.
They should at least have put in the A11 chip.
