RE: Strange issue with my app switcher
Hello Katrina, First of all, if your iPhone 8 is not giving you a good experience any more than by all means, upgrade to an iPhone 14 or 14 Pro. Actually I would probably not recommend the regular iPhone 14 because it uses the same chip as the iPhone 13 family of phones, the A15, and while it has crash detection (should you ever be in a car accident which of course I hope will never happen) and it supports the emergency SOS via satellite feature, but that also is probably a really unimportant feature for most users. Depending on how comfortable you ae spending the money for a 14 Pro I would actually say you could see what sort of deals are coming up for the iPhone 13 Pro when Black Friday rolls around. As I said, you would get the same chip as a regular iPhone 14, you would get very good battery life and you would also get the LiDAR sensor which allows features like door detection to work. You would also get this on the iPhone 14 Pro of course, but once again, you always pay a premium for the latest phone and unless you absolutely wanted the latest, the iPhone 13 Pro might be a great choice. The iPhone 14 Pro also has the "always on display" but again this is of little concern for a blind person and I can't speak too much about this "dynamic island" which I believe sort of replaces the status bar or maybe it's in addition to the status bar, but I haven't really read much about it from the perspective of a blind user. By the way, I am not sure if the ability to ask Siri to reboot somehow is not available on the iPhone 8 or 8 Plus, somebody else who has an iPhone 8 or 8 Plus and who has upgraded to iOS 16 would have to chime in to confirm. Of course I am running the iOS 16.1 Public Beta so it's always possible this was only added there, but I can ask Siri to reboot and I can also ask Siri to shut down my phone and after a verbal confirmation it will do either the reboot or the shut-down. As soon as I read what you said about only needing to hold in on the side button, I recalled being corrected about this before. Ugh! My old brain is losing or mixing up information more and more these days. ☹ Do you know if there was ever a time when we had to hold in on both the down volume and side buttons? If not, where did I get that from, and why can't I let it go? Anyway, after doing it correctly, the phone did reset; no improvement with the app switcher, but at least for now, I only need to double tap on notifications. FYI, I had tried resetting network settings; process carried out fine, but again no improvement. Also, Siri won't reboot for me, no matter how I phrase the request; the responses include something like I can't do that, I don't understand, and BTW Siri doesn't speak those responses...I have to swipe to read what is on the screen. Could Siri not cooperating with my request to reboot, and the app switcher issue, be due to my having an older phone, an iPhone 8? My iPhone 8 is not performing as well as I would like; huge issue is the battery, so that is why I'm tempted to purchase the 14 Pro. I know you and others recommend those with more current models wait to get a new phone next year, but again the iPhone 8 is not performing well. I'm hesitating to make the purchase as it seems like a huge challenge to deal with the IOS 16 learning curve, changes due to no home button, configuring a new phone, etc. When the Apple employee said people are "not able to access the app switcher and control center when using voiceover", It caused me to back off. But, it seems you and others aren't having that kind of problem so he probably was mistaken, or I misheard him. Anyway, I guess I need to have faith all will ultimately be fine and make the purchase, as I really need better performance and because I wonder if a newer phone will function better with IOS 16. When I shut down my 13 pro max, I just hold down either the volume up or volume down buttons along with the side button at the same time and I am presented with the screen where I can double tap and my phone will shut down. It is great to know, that in IOS 16.1, the app switcher bug is pretty much gone. On 10/15/22, chrisjudge1...@gmail.com wrote: > Yes I get that as well. Re: Strange issue with my app switcher
Just to let you know, on my SE 2020, any app I have open requires me to swipe twice to get to an area to either activate or close that particular app. So I’m getting mirror copies one is kind of a dead screen and announces phone and then I have to swipe to the right to get through other apps that they are open to get to a place where I can close anyone of them. So I’m getting duplicate window announcements as well. And that’s been true since the first 16 update. On average I might have three apps Open or four or five by accident open at any one time. The issue I have with app switcher is that if more than one app is open, it often closes the app that isn't actually active, at least not according to Voiceover. For example, if I have Duo Lingo open and Messages and I just want to close Messages, I do the 3-finger swipe up and it says Messages but actually closes Duo Lingo. Hello Katrina, First of all, it sounds to me like maybe something went not quite right with your update because I have not heard of any issues with people being able to power off their phone in the usual way, e.g. press volume up, press volume down and then press and hold the side button for about a second or two until the power off screen comes up. Re: Strange issue with my app switcher
It isn't a big deal not to have a home button. I also have an iPhone 8 as well as an iPhone 13 pro max. There are some bugs with the app switcher in IOS 16. That is why you are seeing apps twice. It is very annoying. I think the notification stuff is different in IOS 16. On 10/14/22, Katrina Anderson wrote: > Yes, definitely having issues with the app switcher. RE: Strange issue with my app switcher
Yes, definitely having issues with the app switcher. I was forced to update to 16.0.3 on my iPhone 8, in order to use my new airPods Pro. Many Things have been challenging ever since. After entering the app switcher, it is necessary to listen for "active" after the app name. If you just hear the name of the app, keep swiping; if you have several apps open, this can be frustrating and time consuming. I am so upset with what's happening with the notification center. Until speaking with Apple Accessibility, I was unable to open notifications. I could clear notifications but not open them. I read somewhere that "list" should be selected in the notification settings, so I did that; there was no change. I learned about a work around, and am grateful for it, but again it is so frustrating. I have to double tap on a notification, quickly swipe left to where I hear open, and then quickly double tap. And, I am not kidding about the need to move quickly. This method has been working pretty well until there was a reminder in the notification center; notifications could only be removed after I cleared the reminder. I don't understand why, but I am unable to do a hard reset after the update. After tapping the volume buttons (up and then down) and then holding in on the down volume/side button for well over 30 seconds until my hands give out, the screen with "double tap to power off", "emergency call" and "cancel" remains and does not shut down/reset. I wanted to try the forced reset to try and remedy the crazy behaviors; turns out, I don't think that would have helped as others are experiencing the same issues. I'm wondering if my issues are related to my using the iPhone 8? It would be interesting to know if similar issues occur on newer phones. I'm giving serious thought to getting a 14 Pro, but I hear things aren't all that great for users of that model and/or IOS 16.0.3. I am nervous about the combination of dealing with learning to function without the home button and at the same time dealing with IOS 16 issues. As part of my research and/or decision making process as to whether to switch to the 14 Pro, while at the Apple Store the other day, I tried to open the app switcher and control center. I didn't get to play around for more than 5 minutes, but never had success using the techniques described on this list. An employee said it may be due to the device only being a model and not a fully functioning phone. Another employee said they have 2 visually impaired employees on staff, but both weren't in that day. He remarked that one of those employees mentioned that there is a problem with accessing the app center via voiceover when using IOS 16, and that perhaps that is why I didn't have success. Strange issue with my app switcher
Hello, all I noticed that when I open the app switcher there seems to be two occurrences of the app. For example, if I had just mail open, I would hear the word mail and then if I swipe to the right, it would say mail button and then I can flick up and close it if I do not swipe to the second Word I can’t close it. I wonder if anyone else is having this issue? I’m not sure if I phrased it very well, but it seems bizarre to me.
