Dear WAMUG'rs,
A relative of mine is having problems with her 2.66 Intel iMac running

Hi Philippe,
I had a similar problem when downloading large files (ie, approx
500MB). Found the solution was to use Firefox as the browser.
The benefit with firefox is that when it gets to the stage of
stopping (ie, after an hour or so), it closes off, automatically
restarts and

Matt,
If it happens again, shut down and turn the computer upside-down for
5 minutes. Restart. If the stripes are gone then the electrolytic
capacitors in the computer are on their last legs.
Turning the caps upside down sloshes the little remaining electrolyte
around, making the

Are you still living in Preston Point Rd above Canning Highway?

Hi all,
Is there anyone on the list who knows a bit about the mysteries of ASP.Net.
I've been asked to look at a friend's web site that's throwing some major
errors and fixing it is way beyond my humble web design skills.
Or perhaps refer me to someone?
Some payment is possible.
Thanks
Hi,
I'm a little paranoid about backup, having worked in IT, and also
having to restore after disk failures from a backup.
For my home computer, beside TimeMachine backup, I also backup to
an external drive idrive.com where there is a free 2GB, or for $50pa
a massive 150GB. You
Hi Clyde,
Many thanks for the advice. It would seem, as your case indicates,
that Safari is the one I should be looking at. In fact Safari did
crash once while we were attempting to download an update to iTune,
and this after 3 previous attempts.
I may need to reset the modem also, but am
Hi Ronni,
If you come to the East coast of Tasmania (and you should), don't
expect Optus coverage for at least the next 3 years, if at all.

Hi Stuart,
Thanks for your explanation.
Now I just need to make up my mind what to do.

Hi James,
I do hope to get to Tasmania someday. I might have to fly from
Melbourne though, as I'm afraid of Bass Strait ... that roughest piece
of water.
I've made my decision to stick with Telstra and purchase a 32GB iPhone
3G S.
Cheers,
Ronni

Hi List,
I want to create an SOE style backup of my machine - so not just the OS and
those settings (hopefully all the network settings and locations) but those
of all the applications as well.
So if I have to restore it is all in the one box so to speak.
What do people recommend for this? Do

Hi Aurora
There are two good products that I have used, CarbonCopyCloner and
Superduper both are excellent for what you want to do. So all you
need is a hard drive with enough space :)

Fantastic - Thankyou!
I have a full copy of SuperDuper that I stashed (bought it but haven't used
it yet)
It is for an Air so no Firewire. I assume it will let me backup to a network
location or a USB drive?
That is excellent that it allows you to backup so many
Hi Kevin,
I have just gutted a recently deceased iMac G4 (desk lamp style circa
2001) and as is my habit I kept the RAM for a rainy day. Two boards,
one is 128mB PC133U and about 5 inches long, the other one half that
length is also PC133, 256mB. I can post those to you if you like.

Hi Merv,
It is apparently an Epson printer or possibly scanner driver. So
suggest you have check your Epson hardware and see if it is working as
it should, and if not reinstall the driver. You could turn off the
device and see if you can empty your trash bin.

Have a look at the pre-paid offers. The 'Talk Text' option is pretty
good and as long as you're willing to tweak things a bit by purchasing
packs when you need them it's actually pretty good value, not
outstanding, but certainly competative.
