Quicktime

Quicktime ( latest version 7.2 ) will not work on my iMac OS 10.4.10 with
all the latest software updates.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Re: MS Snapshot file format

2007-08-08 Thread Neil Houghton
Hi Tony,

Google came up with this forum link:

http://www.thescripts.com/forum/thread191420.html

Which suggests you may be out of luck.

Your best approach might be to try to persuade the sender to distribute such
things as pdfs - which nowadays is more or less the de-facto standard for
distributing content that anyone should be able to view.

Cheers

The attached document is in Microsoft Report Snapshot format. If you
have Microsoft Office 2000 installed, the Snapshot Viewer will be

New iMovie '08 works natively with MPEG-2 and AVCHD video cameras

2007-08-08 Thread Martin Hill
Everyone who has been recently considering buying a new video camera
should be pleased by the new iMovie '08. It now natively supports
the MPEG-2 and AVCHD formats used by the latest hard disk equipped
video cameras like the the JVC Everio series and the latest Panasonic
and Sony HDD cameras (and some new mini-DVD cameras which use AVCHD
as well) .

http://www.apple.com/ilife/imovie/

Looks like it does still need to convert on import, but at least we
can do away with having to use other software to convert it into a
format iMovie understands. I'm hoping that it is a general Quicktime
feature update so Quicktime Player and other Quicktime compatible
software will be able to natively work with such formats as well.

Looks like a very major upgrade all round.

hurrah!

Hmmm, very strange - immediately I sent the test message (15:20) I finally
received the previous message (sent at 9:44 not 10:44 [typo]) followed a
minute later by the test message which came straight through - so what held
up the previous message by almost 6 hours?!!

Hi Lloyd,

Do you mean it won't work at all, or only when viewing Web based movies?
If it's Web based movies you cannot play.

1. Go the the Adobe Flash homepage http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/
download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlashpromoid=BIOW
and reinstall the latest Flash Player for Mac.

2. Go to your System PreferencesQuickTimeAdvanced panel.

3. Make sure ENABLE FLASH is ON.

4. At the bottom you will see MIME SETTINGS Click on this button.

5. Scroll down to MISCELLANEOUS - MISCELLANEOUS FILE FORMATS.

6. Make sure the FLASH MEDIA option is OFF.

7. Click OK.

8. Restart your computer.

If you are experiencing Quicktime logo with Question Mark ?

1. HD Library Internet plugins folder - Drag 'QuickTime
Plugin.webplugin' to your Desktop.

2. Quit and relaunch Safari if everything is OK, trash the 'QuickTime
Plugin.webplugin' .

If the problem is something else, let us know ;-)

Cheers,

Ronni

Dot Mac account for Videoconferencing

2007-08-08 Thread Brett Carboni
Does anyone know if I can open a dotmac account to get a dotmac email
or user ID so that I can videoconference with another Mac?

I want to set up my Mom and sister (who have been waiting to buy new
iMacs) to videoconference. But it has to be very simple. No Jabber or
AOL.

I understand you can get free trial dotmac subscriptions but I wonder
if they let you keep the email.

If not we'll use Skype but it'd be a pity not to use Apple SW just
because of a confusing user ID experience.

Hi Brett,

Skype is easy and free. We did the publicity for the Australian
launch of SightSpeed ( sightspeed.com.au, or just google sightspeed
australia) - this was one of the top rated products from PCWorld's
best products of 2007 (#21 out of their worldwide Top 100 list). It
is free for personal use, has Australian servers, and might be worth
checking out as well.

I've got a .Mac account. As you probably are aware, a $99 annual
subscription is involved, although you can try it for 60 days at no
charge. I haven't tried video conferencing with iChat. With Skype and
sightspeed around, I've not got around to testing it out.

Glenn.

Re: New iMovie '08 works natively with MPEG-2 and AVCHD video cameras

2007-08-08 Thread Rod Blitvich
So if we buy a Hard disk or flash memory video cam, how do we archive our
footage?
Will it burn to a DVD and still be usable/importable?

It was great being able to put the miniDV tape in the desk drawer in case I
ever wanted to go back to the raw footage.

Looks like it does still need to convert on import, but at least we
can do away with having to use other software to convert it into a
format iMovie understands. I'm hoping that it is a general
Quicktime feature update so Quicktime Player and other Quicktime
compatible software will be able to natively work with such formats
 as well.

Looks like a very major upgrade all round.

Re: New iMovie '08 works natively with MPEG-2 and AVCHD video cameras

2007-08-08 Thread Susan Hastings
Rod, you can put the raw footage onto a DVD for archiving. Its
compressed, so doesn't need nearly as much space as the processed
video. The convenience of 'drag and drop' onto your computer from the
camera outweighs the extra step, I think. cheers, susan.

iBook / bad i key

2007-08-08 Thread Glenn Nicholas

Hi Wamug,

We've got an iBook G4 (out of warranty) that has a misbehaving i key.
Basically it only works if it is pressed *really* hard.

Is this a common problem? What are the options to fix?

Glenn.

One option may be here :-

There are some instructions there also , but I have not viewed them .

Hi Glenn,

It's not a common problem. It could be stuck, or have something under
it preventing it from working.

Have you tried blowing some air around the key to move any grit that
might be under the key?
Use canned air with a nozzle to blow off any loose dust and any
debris trapped between the keys.

Article here how to Replace A Key . but be very very careful if
you are confident to attempt this.

I would take it to a Professional like Daniel Kerr.

Good Site Bob,I just found time to have a look at it. There is a good
Manual on Apple Key Replacement.

Explains better than the Apple Document does.
